WiFi Router HELP!!! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I may sound like a newb but here goes, how do i turn my tilt into a wifi router so i can connect such things as my psp, xbox360, etc. to the internet? Ive read and everyone says theres a program on the phone to do this but i dont see this great program. Im using dutty's newest rom apr 01 and not seeing this wifi router program/app anywhere. Is there a cab for this? Anyone know how to connect such devices to the internet using my phone? I have the unlimited data plan through att. Thanks!

Hello pulyka, I have this program installed on my Tilt, but my laptop doesn't see the Tilt's wifi connection when the program says its connected.
Am I missing something?

You aren't the only one. I've never been able to get it to work on my Tilt, when I used to use it all the time on my Mogul.

I hear now this program costs money. If no guarantee for tilt compatibility, can refunds be granted if it doesn't work?

I must say that the IT manager at my job has this program installed on his Tilt and it works fine. He actually used it in a meeting the other day when the main signal was too weak.
He is just so busy that I haven't been able to have him check out my phone, to see what is the problem. So there is some hope for Tilt owners and WMWIFIRouter.

Worked fine on my Tilt running Sleuth 3.0 Rom.
Try the earlier version, it is still free and it works fine (just a little less polished).

I tried the WMWiFiRouter .91 once. My tilt took too long to connect to the ad hoc network so I stop using it. I think that's the problem. You have to wait until your phone to connect to the network before the router starts working.

Modemlink and Edge question

I tried to search this but the only thing I could find was a thread that walked you through the setup but when I tried it, nothing happened.
Here is what I got:
T-Mobile, T-zones workaround for Edge.
Can I tether my MDA to my laptop via USB cable to use Edge. If so, someone please walk me through it.
Thanks,
M3
I've been trying this too but wasn't very successful. I've tried setting up everything myself from my knowledge, but I guess that wasn't enough.
So I found a program called PDAnet. It is supposed to be an excellent program to do exactly what you're asking- connect GPRS phone to laptop to access internet. Well, I've tried this program but was not successful. For some reason I couldn't get it to work. But do give it a try yourself, it is supposed to be great.
If it works for you, maybe you can share your settings? thanks
I do this all the time, I hate the $9.95 1 day access fee when your in an airport maybe 2 hours if that.
First, ditch the USB cable and link via bluetooth. I only got my USB setup to work once and that after massive messing around. I'm assuming you have bluetooth on your lap top, I've a Dell so your set up may be somewhat different than mine.
First you want to make sure your BT radio is on, all I have to do is right click on the system tray icon and enable radio. Next bring up the BT settings manager and hit make a new connection. On the Com screen in the wizard make sure it's set to discoverable, there is a link under the settings menu bottom of the screen. If this is the first time you've paired the laptop to the Wizard then you'll need to enter the access code, in my case it is 0000 for both. On my laptop I need to go into the manual connection process otherwise it assumes I want to do a file transfer and not a modem connection. Set the connection to dial up modem, if it asks you for a number to dial it is *99# (Tmobile gprs). Thats pretty much it. The only hitch I've found is that I occasionally need to set the wizard to discoverable.
When I want to connect to the internet at admittedly slow GPRS speeds I bring up the BT manager and hit connect, it finds the Wizard, dials it into the GPRS and that's it, I'm tethered and have internet access. It's slow, kind of like a dsl line but for checking emails it's just fine. I used to have a Sierra Aircard which I could pop my SIM into and that worked great and was stable but the new laptop has an express card slot so the Aircard doesnt fit. If you have the older style port and Cingular or Tmobile you can pick these up cheap on ebay.

New! Version 1.72 adds support for GSM/GPRS devices such as T-Mobile MDA or Cingular 8125! It also supports Vista and Bluetooth/InfraRed connection through ActiveSync.
^thats from their website. Have you tried it lately?
I'm about to install it myself and try. Will post how it goes.

MSN messenger on AT&T Tilt

Newbie here
I have just gotten the AT&T Tilt.
It seems to be working fine overall, however when I am trying to connect to MSN (Live) Messenger through a WiFi connection, it apparently is not allowed, as it says "cannot connect via WiFi connection)...? Is this normal? Is there ANY way to get arround this? I just don't know if I'll keep the PDA plan forever and it would be easier for me to just connect via tha WiFi wherever available.
Thanks in advance.
(I did a search already and did not see any posts regarding this so I assumed no one has this issue...or cares...?

I have the Kaiser (very similar to the tilt) and Messenger works just fine against WiFi. What version do you have?
I was fairly certain the AT&T ROM for the Tilt removed Live messenger.. did you download it from thread on here or something?
The att ROM did remove windows live all together. You would need to install it. I have a feeling he is trying to use the OZIM program which doesn't use data, it uses text messaging. So when you are connected to Wifi it won't connect.
hmm...actually I didn't download/install anything onto the phone yet. It is an AT&T Tilt with no mods (yet)...and when i hit "instant messaging", it has the three messenger programs as icons (AOL, MSN or Live, and Yahoo).
If I do want to install it, where can I go to get it and would that installed version also be using TXTMessaging or data?

Tethering Programs

Hi everyone. I hope that someone can help me.
I used to use PDANet for tethering with my 8525 and my laptop; which was awesome. Since upgrading to the Tilt (WM6), I can't tether because PDANet is not compatible with WM6. When I communicated with them I was told that they currently have no plans to offer their program for WM6.
I do not tether enough to pay a hefty $30 per month to tether through AT&T. But every Saturday and Sunday I really need it for my travel.
Does anyone know of a program that is compatible with WM6 that I can use to tether as PDANet allowed without indicating my tethering to AT&T?
Any and all help is greatly and humbly appreciated.
The latest version of WM5 and in WM6 there is a "internet sharing" ability that tethers to both Vista and XP extremely nicely. Call AT&T, they for some reason hid this on the Tilt, but it's there (in the Windows directory if you want to find it with file explorer), but AT&T's PDA group should be able to help you. It's really really easy.
I flashed my Tilt to the HTC ROM and could tether fine. You can do a forum search for detailed instructions on retrieving the Internet Connection Sharing program from the Windows directory as the previous poster had mentioned for the Tilt's ROM. The Tilt is capable of natively tethering, but AT&T made it a bit harder to find the function.

I found the file info on another site. It's called "Internet Sharing" and it's in the Windows directory. I tried to set it up, but am not saavy enough to make it work.
I can't afford to pay AT&T another $70 a month to get my laptop onto the internet when I'm out in the boonies. I used "Modem Link" on my 2125, but can't seem to make anything work on my new "Tilt".
If anyone knows how to make it work, I'd appreciate the help. Since I'm pretty new at this, step by step instructions would sure help.
Thanks,
This will add the link back in for you:

Download the cab file, copy it to your phone, and use file explorer on your phone to run the cab file. From there just go to Programs, Internet Sharing and tether away.
Thanks! I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Thanks!
It works great! Faster than the old dialup I used to have.
How 'bout tethering my TYTN II to my notebook via Bluetooth and utilizing the TYTN II as the GPS receiver with the navigation software on my notebook?
Thanx.

Never thought about that. I have MS Pocket Streets and Trips on the PC and laptop. I'll try it when I get a chance.
Are you out of your mind?

MR. scottwilkins ;;;; Are you out of your mind ???????
If any one call AT&T they will tell you that you have to pay for a more expensive PLAN in order to TETHER.
AT&T DON'T WANT YOU TO TETHER if YOU DON'T HAVE a PLAN that LET'S YOU TETHERING, and believe ME it's not going to be $30 for the plan, its going to be $50 and I think up to $80 JUST so you can TETHER.
SO DON'T EXPOSE YOURSELVES to AT&T........
...... They WILL REAP YOU APART.
DON'T be !##!&^$&*[email protected]#$^*&#, If you understood that
NOW, how do I KNOW THIS!!!!!! Because IIIIIIIIIII CALLED.
Of course they are not going to know if you are doing it (using Internet Sharing) (I'm not sure about using Dial UP) unless you start playing from your computer an online game that you CAN'T OBVIOUSLY install in YOUR PPC.
When it was cingular it was OK with THEM, just as long you DIDN'T abuse.
Soooooo.....DOOOOOOOOOOOOON'T CALL THEM.

using tytn II as modem in vista

Hi!
I'm having trouble using my tytn II as a modem in windows vista. I had no problems in windows xp but since i installed windows vista and use internet sharing application this is what happens:
I get connected and a new networkadapter (NDIS) is detected
I recieve a local ip-adress of 169.xxx...
This is making me crazy and i've searched the forum without beeing able to find anyone with the same problem...what am i doing wrong??
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
I understand, you use it with USB cable, may be using it with Bluetooth will be better, because in this case Windows will recognize it as a modem.
Please provide some more information about how did you make the configuration.
Did you make it as it was described in the user guide?
Hi!
I did make the configuration exactly as the manual describes it and my device is syncing correctly and everything. It even installs as a network driver when i use the internet sharing application. But it just wont give me an ip-address...
I've had this issue for over a month now and it feels like vista is blocking the service or something, but i just cant figure it out...
PLEASE advise!
I have the same Problem as you !
As a matter of fact, I have an ip but vista says that I'm connected to local network but not to the Internet.
But at the same time I have an illimited data plan that runs perfectly when using Pocket ie...
Still searching for a solution...
But i'm sure it comes from vista...
megaman
No problems!
Hi guys.
Ive used this feature with vista with no problems at all..
Just turned internet sharing on and it connected to the network connection then vista aked me what kind of network it was (Home, Work Place etc) and hey presto it worked.
Mine is a T-Mobile Vario iii btw.
Never really had a problem either though it's much too slow compared to a "real" USB-3G/HDSPA-modem. (I max out at 1.2-1.8 mbit/s but when I use my dedicated modem I easilly reach 4 mbit/s)

Yeah this is killing me! I get the same as you, i get a IP-address but its a local one 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and vista says its a local ip-address...
I've started looking for services that may be stopped and such in Vista, but i still cant get it to work
I also can't get it to work, so if my WiFi goes out and i need internet, i just reboot to XP... Obviously not a solution, it's very annoying. I'd love to figure this out. I think my friend said he got it working, i should get details from him!
-Taylor
Guys, this is not the solution, BUT, until someone finds it, this is a awesome way to get around the problem! Just install the application, start it and tap connect. Now on your computer you'll find a new adhoc network using wifi, connect to it and your ready to go!

Wifi Problem Connection!!!!

I need some help, I upgrade my Rom to the Dutty's WM6.1 and the Radio to 1.58.16.27, but now my Wifi is not working, actually, find my router signal but it cant connect it, i dont know why, I already put it in Best perfomance but nothing happens.
Does anyone know what to do???
Thanks
Sorry about my bad english.
Did you go through the wifi set up?
Maybe you just need to type in the password for either PSK or WEP encryption.
Your english is just as good as mine so no need to appologize.
Have you tried another Access Point? I have posted in an older thread about this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376003
Not sure if any of this applies to you or not. Hope it helps.
thanks for your concern, i've tried 3 differents access points but nothing happens, in my wifi settings i can see my router signal, it says connecting, but stay connecting and never connects. the same happens to the other access points. it has the password writen and everything.
Do you have another solution maybe?
thanks
Did you type the password previously during set up?
Or when you were going through the setup, you see a bunch of asterisk (*)?
If its the latter... erase all of the asterisk (*) and retype the password.
thanks, but still having the same problem, is trying to connect but never connect it....
I dont know what to do now, I try everything!!!!
Possible fix
see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2060140&postcount=83. I had the same problem as you. I think it has to do with some DHCP registry problem, but don't know much about registry settings so not sure.
Im trying but still happen the same thing, the arrows are going to the opissite directions that means that is trying to connect, but nothing happens.
thanks for that post, if anynoe has the solution please help me,
Do i have to try a different Radio?
please let me know
thanks
Maybe somebody with the same problem?? or any thread???
thanks
Does anybody has the solution or maybe something that i can try???
thanks
ooops delete
I had a problem like that when I tried to connect to my access point. I don't know for sure what caused it but it suddenly started working after toying around - one of the things I did was gave it a static IP address rather than using DHCP (which I prefer anyways tbh), it does indeed seem to be DHCP related.
I did the same thing, it connects to my router but i cant get internet (surf, messenger, weather, etc) , nothing, just its connected but nothing happens, maybe the radio version? i dont know what to do!
I still have the problem!!!!
Any solution please!!!!
I need some help
thanks
same problem here. wifi was working just fine yesterday. today, after charging over night, i try to connect to my network at home and it keeps saying connecting... but it never establishes a solid connection. also tried other available networks while i was out during the day, and it did connect, but then it couldn't access the internet, not even to update my weather on my today screen. haven't flashed recently, haven't hard resetted. only thing i did between the last time it worked and until now was active sync to transfer music from my computer to my SD card through usb (my card reader doesn't support SDHC) and charged it over night. I've transferred files from my computer to my phone in the past without any problems.
any help is appreciated!! thanks!

i hope this help... it's not a technical response, but good luck
this response is horrible, but i had the same problem. I changed my router and now it works fine. old: BUFFALO, new: BELKIN N1 Vision. I figured out that the unit has some intereference problems... my old BUFFALO work in another appartment well with my Kaiser but not at home... (tried moving BUFFALO from my house to another neighborhood house and works fin...)
it can't be the router that's causing the problem because it was working fine up until now. i've also tried other networks, and it will say that it is connected, but then i'll try to view a page and it won't load.
i've been using Dutty's WM 6.1 Rom that was released on April 9 and using the NIKI Radio 1.58.16.27 for about a week before this problem started also, just like jmcorral.

Same here. I think it's Dutty's rom...no offese to Dutty. I bet other people got it to work, but I've had Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid and the NIKI Radio 1.58.16.27 and I've tried a bunch of other radios with no luck. I'm going to try and switch roms and see if that helps at all.

Wifi not connecting
Maybe this will help.
If you have Duty ROM, check that Network Plugin is not activated.
I also solved the same connectivity issue for a friend that is using the the ATT original ROM. The problem was the battery settings. It was set at maximum savings.
sorry for the noob question, but where can i find if the Network Plugin is activated?
