Voice to text dictation software - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi Does anyone know of some software that will allow me to speak to the PDA and it type for me?

Do some search on www.google.com and typ in Voice to Text PPC.
I did it and immediatly it came up with some good results.
For example: http://www.digitalfuturesoft.com/texttospeechproductsforpocketpc.php

That one is text to speech, not speech to text
I didn't think PPC would be able to run this sort of software, so I went looking. Problem seems to be that most results are for voice control rather than actual speech to text.
IBM via voice mobile seems to exist, but it seems more like voice control again. I also found something called Universal Translator which seems overkill.

Pocket Dictate, Dictaton 2005, SpeaktoText, etc...

Got me excited. However, is designed to "dictate directly on your Pocket PC using the buttons on the unit... tap send and the dictation will be compressed, encrypted and sent to your typist by email automatically."
Sadly, I don't have and can't afford a typist I suppose it would be possible to push it through a piece of desktop software, but then I could use "notes" or "voice recorder" which came with my kaiser.

Googled these - SpeaktoText and Dictaton 2005. Both are for desktops, not PPC

Maybe somebody can work with this; it's beyond my abilities.

updates?
Anyone ever find anything worthwhile?

I use this on my tilt with 6.1
It works PDG. Needs some training but you can voice text, email notes etc.

MS voice command vs Voice Speed dial

Hello
can somebody help me understanding the difference betwenn Voice command and speed dial and if I can use both on the same PDA ?
So far I understand that
- Speed Dial dials numbers and start programs by using voice tags
- you need to train each name to be recognized
- there is no true voice recognition
- Voice command dials numbers and starts programs by voice recognition
- in addition VC reads calendar entries and SMS/E-Mail
- there is no training mode to increase accurancy
So which program would provide better results for recognize and dial numbers by voice ?
Can I run both in parallel and use VC for the calendar function and Voice speed dial for the dialing ?
Plus I try to install VC 1.6 now .. but the button maps only to the explorer button on my TytnII .. not able to move him to the voice record button with the button application in settings
any suggestion / fix
Thanks freecall

I have the same problem.... any solution?!?!?!?
Cyberon is crap. I posted a detailed procedure for replacing it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337501
I have installed Cyberon voice commander v2.0 and i am very happy with it when i use it with my bluetooth!!!
My only problem is that i do not know how to assign this program to the default "button 6".
I think default settings are:
"Button 6" --> Cyberon voice commander and
"Button 6 (Hold)" --> Record. (This one works).
hmm that sounds like a drastic deinstall .. so anyway to get the Voice speed dial back without doing a full hard reset if I would it like better than VC after some testing ?

M$ Voice Command ROCKS!
Ok I don’t say that about many applications especially M$ ones but I love VC. I keep my phone in its case and the BT ear piece in the ear, when the phone rings or I get a Text message VC tells me who is calling or reads the text to me. If I have an appointment but don’t recall what time it is, I just ask VC.
As far as accuracy in voice dial, it can’t be beat, say “Call: Joe Blow on mobile phone” and it will confirm “Call Joe Blow on mobile?” never misses. Say; “Dial 2125551212” and it will confirm and dial the number. No voice tags no training and it works for anyone. If my wife grabs my phone and needs to call someone she hits the VC button and off she goes.
Ok so there is one issue, with the Tilt there is no convenient button to map too, but since I do all my dialing from the BT headset or car unit it doesn’t matter to me. If you don’t mind it maped to your IE soft key ok, you can get to IE 3 or 4 other ways. On my old wizard (long live the wizard) I had it mapped to the record button and it worked great.

I have to agree with Russ. Microsoft Voice Commander is by far the best ~$17.00 I have spent for this phone, as well as the 8125 I had before this. The Voice regconition is awesome. I did have to change the buttons as described above. I chose the camera button as I never use the camera anyway. It works great with my HT700(headset) as well as the HT820(bluetooth headphones). The options allow for a good level of customization as well.
that sounds realy good and I will start testing it .Two quick questions to the comments above:
- have you installed VC without deleting / un-installing Voice speed dial on your Kaiser ?
- second it looks my device recognize all VC commands like time, date , help , signal etc but when I say call First Name Last Name it never finds any of my 590 contacts .. even it the name is as simple as Taxi G7 .. beep comes back empty .
When I say just call .. it dials a number I do not even recognize.
Can this be related that I do not have a option menu for contact in the VC settings (it is greyed ) , I can only select the notification button ?
Or is this maybe because I use PI 2007 ?
Thanks Freecall

freecall,
Right now i have both installed (getting ready to delete Voice Dial) and VC is partially functional. I will accept commands and process them correctly but it will not announce calls, read messages or calendar data. So once i have VD removed I will let you know.
I recommend you also remove voice dial before trying anymore tests.

I did not uninstall Voice Dial. IF you want to hear the calls and emails, make you configure VC properly. There is settings for only:
1.) Only announce during Free-Time. Make sure you check that one to whatever you want.
2.) Only High Priorty Emails get annouced. Again, check whichever option you want.
Where do I get a list of commands that VC will recognize? E.G Dial, Recall, on Mobile, etc.
Say "What can I say?" and you'll have your answer...

or go to the Microsoft website and look up VoiceCommand 1.6 for PPC. The list is really quite long!

Any ideas Gang?
So, after following the thread for removing voice dialer and remapping the PTT button to become button 6 and button 6 (hold) VC is still not announcing incoming calls (and yes I have configured the options!) anyone have any idea why it would perform 90% of its duty and not the last 10%?
Russ741
Are you sure it's not announcing them, or is it possible it's announcing them through the "wrong" speaker? If you've got it set to use BT, BT, and only BT, then all of the announcements go through the headset, or don't get made if it's not currently connected (like walking out of range and then back in).
I tweaked mine to announce only through the speaker, then turned it off because the robot voice annoyed me, but at first I thought it wasn't working...
One question about VC...
Do you have to say the person's full name to dial them? Let's say I have a contact name John Smith, do I have to say "Call John Smith Mobile", or can I program nicknames somewhere within the software so I can say something like "Call Smitty"?
It's based on the contact name, so "Call Smitty" will confuse it.
Is it possible to send messages just using voice or only receive them?

It is based on what ever names you have in contacts so, for example if I want to call my office I say; "Call work" since there is only one number in the contacts database VC doesnt ask for Mobile, home or work. And since my office is just listed as First Name: Work Last Name: <blank> it understands.

I simply reads the text or email to you, so there is no way to compose a message with VC.

WAV to Text

I receive my work voicemails via e-mail as a wav file. Is there any WM6 mobile application that could convert these wav files to text?
That's really advanced stuff, there's not even a desktop app, which would run on a 2xcore 3GHz+ processor and have lots of GB of storage for the word samples & stuf, to do that reliably. So my (educated) guess is... no, especially if the wav doesn't contain english speech.
Have you tried callwave?
Hey all I might finally have something useful to add. I use a Macbook and there is a program called callwave that sends you a text message when you miss a call, and could also send you an email. It is still in it's beta stage but works pretty good. Hope this helped.
That's not what the OP is asking for. He's asking for voice recognition software that will transcribe his voicemail.
I've never seen software capable of doing that. There's plenty of voice dictation software available for desktops, hell it's built in to Vista; but nothing that's designed to read WAV files, they all want mics, and certainly nothing that could run on a limited mobile device.
oh well back to my hole i go.

Voice Texting????????

has anyone found or heard of a cab for voice texting, i found this website but its for nokia phones http://www.softwaremarket.nokia.com/?action=productDetails&pID=3304&pmsid=254&lang=en
i think this app would be cool if ur driving, ifind it difficult to text when driving especially with the tilt. any cabs out there?
You want Palringo. It does just that. IM and Voice IM.
have u tried it on ur tilt?
From the makers of Dragon Naturally Speaking, http://www.nuance.com/voicecontrol/. Or try this Google search, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=mobile+voice+to+text.
There was an application supplied with iMate JasJar's sold in the UAE by a company that came from Dubai.
Sorry but can't remember that far back what it was called (age ya know!)
It provided Extended SMS with colour/font changing, drawing and voice clip capabilities. It would only work if both parties had the SW installed.
Biggest drawback (and why its no longer available I think) is that the multiple SMS's required to carry voice data were more expensive than dialling someone's voice mail!!! Funny really...
I've Googled but there doesn't appaers to be anything suitable around at the moment.
i tried google...but that app for nokia phone looks like it works well any one kno if i can work on the tilt? and y does palringo ask for my mobile #?
You might try jott.com.
Does this work with AT&T Tilt 8925?
Should do!
It looks to me like a standard subscription service where you ring them and a little old lady types it in on her keyboard and sends it out as a text for you! (or is it the other way around?)
Not found an actual voice app but seen a nifty little SMS app that tags on nicely to the Kaiser called XMS from Imaginet.
http://www.imaginet-software.com/index.aspx?p=xms
Gives you full smileys and coloured handwriting but the flaw is the recipient also has to have it installed. Good job its 'Buy one get on free then!'
Ignore the 'up to CE2005' as it works perfectly.
Nuance not available for purchase!

Palringo works great on my Tilt. I'm using it right now to talk to a guy with Voice IM. Have also done text (standard) IM.
www.palringo.com
how does it work, it said something about being online?

Palring is a free program? I can use it free ?
I have to pay something when i use it?
Palringo is an Instant Messaging package similar to MSN Messenger but also has voice.
No text to speech.
So you just register and it uses a data connection (phone or WiFi) the data call is the only cost so far.
but only to other Perlingo contacts? you can't use it to voice text anyone else?
It does not do 'voice texts' as such.
It's an IM client in its own right that can chat between its own members or any members on other networks such as MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ etc.
You can leave voice messages to other palringo users.
If you are wanting a package that sends voice over the standard SMS network then I think you will be out of luck as it would cost more in text messages to send the sound data than it would ringing.
Other alternative would be for someone to generate a Speach recognition package that writes your SMS and sends it out!
Why not send an MMS?? You can put voice clips on that!
yes voice to standard sms text message is what we (I) want. you're driving along and receive a text message. you want to just speak a short reply and send it rather than fiddling with the phone illegally to compose a message using the keyboard

WM6.1 no voice speed dial

Was Voice Speed Dial Omitted from the Tilt 6.1 upgrade? Can't find the program or get "add voice tag" option in contact menus.
Thanks

Im having the same issue. Im running Speed Voice Dial and MS VC. Im lucky if it recognizes one out of six dial commands.
Solution?
Really, seems to work pretty well for me..
is it possible to get MS voice command to recognize custom voice tags?
Better

OK, a little better. I've learned how to speak to it - different pronunciations and inflections. Must pronounce all names phonetically. Pretty silly, though. It was more usefull to me to be able to assign custom tags for contacts. Rarely use VC to launch programs.

[Q] Voice dial with GB stock ROM

Hi,
Is it just me being an idiot, or is it indeed not possible to do a simple voice dial using JUST the bluetooth headset?
I am used to just double click on the headset's button to get a lady asking me what to do and I then just used to say "call xyz".
I did so using Windows Mobile and on the iPhone.
Strangly I can't find a similar option on the Note! Also, the preinstalled voice recognition just sends the wave file to a server for analysis. I don't like that, because I have limited Internet traffic on my plan and don't want to waste it this way. Also, I drive a lot in a different country, where mobile Internet is just not available.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
vma
You can find voice speed dial on market, need not to have net for application, you need to record tag.
well, at least I am not plain stupid for not finding the relevant option.
Having to record tags for voice dial is not state of the art and I would not rely on third party software for that.
To me, this is probably the #1 feature I am missing and I can't understand how this phone does not provide voice dial.
Thanks for your reply, though.
Cheers,
vma
