Unlocked 750v - installing related update from Palm.com. Will be locked again? - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

Hi guys!
Hope your Palms are ok
I have unlocked Treo 750v for UK Vodafone.
The current version of phone software is TREO750-1.12-VFU
I see there is an update from Palm that will make verison to 2.18 (I guess it is even update to WM6)
Main question - if I install this update, will it lock my phone again to Vodafone UL or not?
Do you have such experience or information? Thanks!

Is it really so complicated question or too stupid, guys? )

No. Any Rom upgrade craete SIM Lock .

Vodafone ROM?

Anyone have an original shipped Vodafone ROM? Upgraded to the Cingular release and wanting to revert back, didn't see it posted in the wiki or FTP.
I'd like to do the same thing actually. I think the Cingular ROM has made my 750 a little unstable. Either that or Cingular's doing stuff to the network in my area and it's affecting my phone. I think it's the Cingular ROM though.
I too am seeing funny things going on with the Cingular ROM installed. I want to go back to the Voda ROM (original version).
I have search MANY forums all over the world and cannot find the original Voda ROM for this phone.
Whoever gets it, please let me know so I can get it.
Thanks
Did anybody find it?
You will need to wait until Vodafone releases an update for the Treo 750v before you can restore their ROM.
I have a original Vodafone ROM, well its unlocked but I don't know how to copy it, if someone will guide me through it, I wouldn't giving it up to everyone.
Vodafone ROM please?
Hi,
I just bought a Used 750v - it was originally the Vodafone 750v but it looks like the Cingular ROM has been installed on it.
I am looking to Restore it back to the Factory Default.
thanks!
I hear new Vodafone rom for the 750v will be out at the end of the month (End of Jan), this will also be of a higher AKU... Still no HSDPA support, that comes in March/April time with another update....

I guess keep an eye out her or other forums. I am guessing a Palm will act to get them removed from the site if they are hosted here.

You see the build I am running?
Ok... so you appear to have WM5 AKU 2.6 on your 750v. Maybe the ROM is coming hopefully sooner than later.

So if you already have the new build, why don't you share it, or tell us when to expect the new rom? I can't wait for a new rom, I hope it fixes some nasty bugs on my treo..
I'd rather have a Cingular ROM than a Vodafone ROM with AKU2.6...AKU2.3 and AKU2.6 aren't really different at all. But an AKU3.x ROM, now we're talkin...
I'd rather have a Voda ROM since I don't want/need the Cingular customizations. I also don't use MSN messenger so that one is a non-issue.
Hi there,
Have spotted that Calico had an original French-ROM 750v.
Calico, if it remained untouched, are you considering exchanging it with my original English-ROM version? Where are you based?
Cheers, Dom
Oops sorry... wrong post...

Anybody get the unbrand Treo 750 ROM

I have been using the vodafone 750v for a while the Version number is:
TREO750-1.16-VFE
1.12.0c.00
Two problems always happened:
1) The phone suddenly lost all the sound and the mp3 ringtone is terrible.
2) when you pick up the phone, there will be a delay of 3 second because you can hear or speak to the other side.
The first problem can be solve after a reboot but the second problem stay there.
I went to vodafone lately and check the firmware version number of the demo phone which say 1.22.xx.xx( I believe is 1.22.30.00 if I remember correctly)
I ask the service dept of vodafone and they told me that the one they are selling now is no longer 750v ...is 750. Then I ask them if they can provide the upgrade firmware for user to upgrade and they told me that I have to ask palm.
Anybody here is using the Treo 750 with the firmware version 1.22.xx.xx. Can you share the ROM here so we can try if the new ROM could fix the problem?
Thanks
You can download a firmware upgrade from the Vodafone website.
The guy in the store told you wrong unfortunately.

I don't find any info regarding an update on the Vodaphone site .........
Odd, as there was an update on vodafone.nl a month or two back...
I assumed it would have been posted on the other vodafone sites as well.

Try that one already, it change the firmware from 1.12.0a.00 to 1.12.0c.00
This one doesn't do anything good to the phone.
And this update is English only, no use for those who have their Treos in
an other language.

Try the new WM6 for the unbranded ones, I have one if u need. The treo loses voice notifications because of the usage of driver by too many applications. You can install a patch for the At&T versions.
Tell me if you need that.

Treo 750 WM6 Rom questions

I have a few questions in regards to the Treo 750 WM6 rom
Will the AT&T rom work within Australia?
If no why not?
What skillsets are required to make your own rom?
I sincerely thank you for any help.
This should be in the technical discussion. No need for a new thread.
Moderator, can you delete this thread, please?
Hi snowdonx, welcome to xda-dev.
I don't see why it wouldn't work in Australia - but I can't say for sure so someone else will have to give you a definitive answer there.
As far as making your own ROMs - everything you need to know can be learned here. I'd suggest reading some of the newer guides in the Hermes forum to get started.
To give you a head start - there's a couple basic things to be aware of. First, newer devices like the Hermes and Treo 750 will not allow flashing of custom ROMs, or more correctly, ROMs that aren't signed with a carrier or manufacturer certificate. The bootloader (SPL) enforces this. So the first step in getting custom ROMs on a device is putting in place a modified bootloader that allows unsinged ROMs. The number of folks who can do this is very limited compared to the number of folks who can build customer ROMs.
Creating the ROMs, in a nutshell, involves dumping an existing ROM using tools available here, making modifications, rebuilding the ROM, and flashing.
Hope you enjoy your stay here. =)

Yup. Works a treat on Telstra and if you read through the thread you will see it works on Optus and Vodafone too.
and Three too
Does it work on the NextG network on Telstra? i'm pretty sure it should since HSDPA is included on the Treo ROM Upgrade... and how do I get the telstra software and settings onto the treo as well? Do I need to unlock the sim at all?

wow.......
Hi, I'm in Aus aswell and thinking of getting an unlocked 750V from ebay......just a question about how the IMEI is changed after upgrading to the UNOFFICIAL WM6, what will happen if the OFFICIAL WM6 rom becomes available...are we able to upgrade without problems....i know this has been asked before on other threads but no one seems to know the answer......i guess those that have upgraded to the leaked roms will find out when they try to upgrade the official rom when it becomes available......
Just try the official WM6 ROM in the upload dir on the ftp:
uploads/Treo 750Cheetah/WM6 ROM Cheetah Treo 750v
Download the NBH, put it on an empty memory card and insert it into the Treo
Push the sidebutton (below the volume keys), the right softkey below the display and reset with the stylus (all together) and the bootloader starts and you can upgrade the treo to WM6 with HSDPA enabled.
Cheers mate!
thanks, also what are the main differences between 750 and 750v models?.....apart from the word 'vodafone' stamped on the actual phone.....

the main difference is that the Vodafone firmware has Vodafone presets and Vodafone theme next to the standard Windows themes and settings. (Customisation for Vodafone). In the original WM5 rom, there was no messenger available. In WM6 the Live Messenger is back ! Other than that, I don't think there are other differences.
this ROM appears to come from Vodafone (AU)
CE OS: 5.2.1239 (Build 17746.0.2.4)
Firmware version: 1.47.02.00
so far so good...
So it's almost the same, just Firmware version on AT&T is newer: 1.47.02.00 VS Firmware version: 1.47.25.00
yes, nothing unexpected. (баян)

Aight. Thanks for the info.

Moving from T-Mobile UK 2.21.2.6 WWE to better/different ROM?

I'm having a WiFi problem as outlined in this thread, but nobody seems to be able to offer any help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324952
I'm thinking of upgrading from the official T-Mobile UK 2.21.2.6 WWE ROM I have installed to another network provider ROM to see if that fixes the problem.
But will updating from my current ROM to, say, an O2 UK official ROM work the same way as a simple ROM update, or will it brick the phone?
Does it need to be CID unlocked? I've ran what I think was the latest LokiWiz to unlock the SIM, but did this SID unlock the phone as well? How do I tell?
How do I know whether my phone's an AKU2 or AKU3?
And what's the best (i.e., most reliable) official ROM? Would upgrading to WM6 help anything?
Sorry if I'm going over ground covered a lot elsewhere, but the sheer amount of FAQs on CID/SIM/AKU etc., is incredibly overwhelming and confusing.
Thanks in advance for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

You will need LokiWiz 02b to CID unlock your device (if it is a G3)

There is probably an easier method however if you run the program "Registry Wizard" it normally tells you on start up

ROMS are all preference really.. at the moment im using T-mobile 2.26 US which i have found to be the best ROM (with applications / themes obviously) as T-mobile UK Rom is over a year old and is crap.
i have upgraded to WM6 3 times? and all 3 times i had problems, i am currently waiting for most of the bugs to be sorted..
keep us posted

Vodafone UK Treo 750 - unlock & upgrade?

I have a Palm Treo 750 bought from Vodafone UK some time ago. It says this on the "about" screen:
Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5
OS 5.1.195 (build 14995.2.6.3)
I've never done any unlock or upgrade to this phone, it's original from Vodafone UK. Now I'm moving to Brazil and I'd like to unlock it, so it works with the brazilian carrier.
I'd like to ask 2 specific questions:
What would be the steps to unlock this phone so it works with any carrier?
Also, is it possible to upgrade the Windows Mobile version of this phone? If yes, how to do this?
I apologize if this has already been answered, I tried to search for this information on the forums but there are so many terms and tutorials, and versions... that I felt lost
Thanks very much,
sog2k7
