Some thing you may need to check :
Radio maybe ? Eventho the rom come with its own radio , I would recommend reflash ( or flash with a new radio ) the radio.
Did you do a hard reset after you flash the Rom ? I often do extra steps, take a few mins but worth it. Flash rom > hard rest , flash radio > hard reset ... again. sometimes I even power off (remove the battery ) after flash.
What kinda Tomtom 6 you have ? if possible, reinstall it .
I was using that rom , now upgraded to his newest rom ( april 29th ) . Work flawless.

previous to starting tt6 do you run any other applications such as quickgps?
Third, when you open tt6 does your medianet or my isp gprs start up? (if so you have assisted gps enabled and it will cause freezing)
Please answer these questions and I'll direct you in the right location...

Not a flame, but have you tried any of the stuff in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235 most of the Kaiser / TomTom issues have been discussed there.

Dave

GPS has died

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've got a UK T-Mobile Vario III.
I've updated my ROM and radio a couple of times and have now discovered that my GPS isn't working. To try to fix this, I've reverted to old ROMs and radios but nothing seems to get the GPS going again. When I load up the GPS Tool and click open, no messages appear in the window at all. I seem to recall that when my GPS was working, messages would appear as soon as I clicked open, even if I was indoors and there was no chance of a signal getting through.
Radios I've tried are: 1.27.12.11 (my original radio), 1.27.12.17 and 1.27.12.32.
So it seems as if the GPS hardware is dead at the moment. Can someone suggest something that I can do to fix this?
Many thanks in advance!
I had a hiccup with the GPS lately. I installed and ran "GPSTest" and it helped sort things out for me
It may take 3-30 minutes to get a HDOP score (as mentioned in the linked post), but at least you'll know your GPS receiver is functioning properly.

Thanks for your replies. Something is definitely wrong as when I run GPS Test, it scans the com ports numerous times and then gives up and tells me the GPS is off. This is so annoying!
start gp test.start your navigation prog.go to gps settings,go to built in gps,use manual settings, use com 4, baud 4800.go outside then try.this worked for me
ive used this on tmobile and o2.both devices are now working fine with gps.
Download Franson GPSGate. It will force start the GPS. You can start & end sessions with it at will pretty much. It's also great because it allows you to use many GPS programs at once.
If you can't find it PM me & I'll upload for you. It's free to use in standard mode w/o internet tracking, server connections, etc...
I think there must be something more fundamental wrong. I've installed GPSGate and when I selected "wired or in built GPS", it is unable to find anything. It looks as if I'm going to have to get this repaired unless anyone has any other ideas...
Have you tried running uickgps to give the gps a kick start?

Yes, I've tried QuickGPS but no joy. But because GPSGate can't even detect the hardware, I think it's more of a problem than just not being able to get a fix. It's almost as if the driver or something isn't working.
You may want to check all the registry entries for the GPS. There is a link at the bottom of the Wiki that lays them out for you.
Having done hard resets and also reflashed the ROM, I don't think it can be a registry problem. Pretty sure it must be a hardware problem so it looks as if I'm going to have to get it repaired :-(
Clutching at straws here but could it be down to the fact that I flashed Schapp's WM 6.1 to the phone? I notice that a number of official 6.1 builds require a newer radio so perhaps flashing Schapps changed something else and now (even though I've gone back to 6.0) GPS will only work with one of the newer radios?
i have the same exact problem and it also started after i flashed schapps wm 6.1!!! ekhh did u find any solution?? thanks

Exactly same problem here. I flashed Schapps 6.1 ROM and the GPS is DEAD. I'm thinking about sending it in for service.
Anybody has any ideas?
the only solution i was able to find is to flash to schaps 6.1 rom. the gps now works fine. i guess once u flash to 6.1 ur gps will only work with 6.1....this should be a sticky

Strange that yours works with 6.1 as the other posts all seem to have the same problem with the GPS completely dead. Sounds as if the 6.1 flashes to a part of the ROM that the 6.0 ROMs don't flash to. Surely must be reversible, I'll post a message in the Schaps 6.1 thread. Fingers crossed...!

I don't think that this is true - I flashed several WM6.1 roms (and their radios), ending up with Sleuths, but after a while I noticed that it took considerably longer to get a GPS fix.
I returned to Duttys v4 with radio 1..27.12.32 and GPS is working fine and gets a fix as fast as before.
I don't know what the original problem was but in general I found it took longer to get a fix for all WM6.1 roms.
Dutty seems to have a 'team' of great beta testers helping him with his roms and I'm sure that one of them will notice this with his current private beta roms. If so then expect a fix soon.
its not about taking time, when i open up any of the gps programs (gps fix, etc), it doesnt even find the gps! it scans all the com ports, and when it gets to com4 the gps light comes on, but then it scans the other com ports and then tells me no gps found. if i put teh settigns on com4 it'll spend a few mins "looking for gps device" and then say gps off. by upgrading back to 6.1 it works now...
Try a other RADIO ROM
I think it has all to do with the RADIO ROM....

iGO 2006/2008, MioMap and wm6.1

There seems to be a problem with iGO and Mio. When you launch it, nothing happens.
I found a way to make it work - sometimes it requires to do a soft reset for it to work:
Security Warning - turn it to disable and it should work.
Well for me it does not work following your recommandations
Software: iGO 2006 Myway Plus
ROM: XTRM 1.0-6.1x WWE TILT X-version
Which ROM are you using?
both worked for me on Duttys, Alex's, and Sleuth's roms...be sure to have the security disabled as well as assisted GPS disabled.
Something else
I have seen posts about a conflict between one of the HTC today plugins causing a problem with IGO & MIO, I had used both on the WM 6.0 ATT factory rom but no joy on the 6.1 roms (I am sorry that I have not tested to see the exact item causing the problem) I started to use Tom Tom and that is working well for me (you can get the demo version with one free local map Download) or the full version is only about $150.00
Cheers
BR
I just tested both iGO 2006/2008 making sure both the security alerts and the assisted GPS were disabled and even disabling the HTC Home plugin.
Result: still a no go I am afraid (the programs don't even launch)
EDIT: actually I did a hard reset on the rom I was on and now strangely it works
where can i find igo2008 ? I would test it.

With both disabled on 3.03 stock WM6.1 rom, iGo 06 still doesn't work.
I can honestly say that I have no idea what its not working for some of you...I just pulled mine up last night to map a route (igo06). I havent really done anything special to the settings other than what I mentioned earlier. Sorry I could not be of more help.
It may have to do with the <ahem> legality of the various versions of iGo/Miomap that people are using.

What ROM do you have?... Some roms have modded the XIP protocol allowing iGO and MIOMAP to function.
For those that have iGO, the problem is not in running the program. It is in the installation. some ROMs would halt the installation at about 80%, the installation meter disappears however your screen will display the iGO logo and program. When clicked .. nothing happens .. since the installation, due to a conflict, did not finish.
Weighing all the nice features of WM6.1 against the less troubles WM6.0, I would choose the WM6.0 any time. I can deal with not having a feature of two, but it is frustrating to have your phone crap out on you because of A NICE FEATURE as in 6.1.
my 3 1/2 cents....

I had the same problem, turned off the HTC Today.. and then iGO 2006 would work.
..I don't know about iGO 8 ?!?
I gave up on WM6.1
I have now all my programs installed and functioning great on Sleuth 1.2. with WM6.0
iGO never functioned as good with any other ROM. I installed Opera full and TCPMOP core player and I can watch U-Tube and can stream video and music from any source.
The Sleuth 1.2 is the best ROM out there so far. If you flash Sleuth's ROM please donate accordingly.
I had an issue with IGO, where it wouldn't start or would take ages to load if my network connection was established.
However, if I clicked disconnect from media net or isp, or whatever, it would loads right up...
Everytime.

iGo doesn't start after installing.
I'm using Dutty's 6.1 final.
I made it work! Just remove HTC Home from Today screen, keep Mio on Today screen. Then do soft reset, then click on Mio on Today screen and it starts!
btw, I don't need fancy HTC Home after 5 minutes trying it...

I too can get it to run by disabling the HTC Home plugin but would like it to work with the plugin enabled because its a pain to have to keep doing that...anyone have any ideas....I got a six pack for anyone who can solve this issue....
My rom varies day to day. But I just worked with miomap alot this weekend while on a retreat. Worked fine with Sleuths 6.1.
MIO Stopped working for me as well.
I was able to get it to work with disabling the HTC HOME screen.
I have CE OS 5.2.19199 Build 19199.1.0.0
ROM Version: DCSv1.5-WM6.1 WWE
ROm Date: 01/29/08
Radio: 1.64.08.21
Protocol: 25.74.40.02H
Where is the option to modify the SECURITY SETTINGS?
I want to bump this thread up..
There's gotta be a fix for this. I want to have HTC Home and be able to run iGo.
Anybody know what can be done about this? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?
confirmation
i can confirm that disabling the home plugin and assisted gps allows iGo 2006 to be installed.
you can then just turn them back on.
<edit> No ... I'm wrong ... if you turn the home plugin and assisted gps back on ... iGo stops working.
Now it was working when i was using a different 6.1 rom, but I cant remember which now.
A
if you turn off the today plugin and soft reset your device
both igo2006 and igo8 works...
if some chefs could make a solution to work it without soft reset we could have a script to turn it on and off...
do you know mortscript?

I Need Help Before I Scream (GPS Error)

Hi All
I very recently purchased a Orange TyTn II from ebay and before I start to chase the seller for a refund (which might be a struugle)has anyone got any ideas how I can get the GPS working. When Tomtom, memory map or the HTC gps tool tries to access the GPS chip the right hand LED flashes every 8 secs or so but no GPS data is displayed and the software either locks up or drops out.
Also is there much Orange branding on it as this one appears to have none so I suspect it may have had a rom upgrade.
I think the version is 1.27.12.11 as that is whats displayed on the boot screen
Please Help
Go to start, settings, System Tab at the bottom and click on Device information. Tell us what you have there. Then we'll be able to tell you more. Either way I think the phone is fixable by just do a flash upgrade on it. Maybe someone else can tell you more.
Rom Version 1.1 Sleuth
Rom Date 08/28/07
Radio 1.27.12.11
Protocol 22.45.88.07h
If that helps

You've definately got a cooked Rom there - but no worries because Sleuth Roms are great (one of my favourites), and work no problem with TomTom.
I also think the radio is fine - but I think (?) I used 1.27.12.32 with Sleuth... but before you jump in and start flashing, make sure you read lots, have hardSPL and read the WIKI.
As the phone is used you may be better off doing a hard reset before going any further. Make sure you sync and back up your data first because this will be lost. Also make a note of any installed programs because you may need to dig out .cabs for these and re-install afterwards.
As for the GPS - I posted this a while back which seems to have helped a couple of others...
1. Back up all my data, emails, sms's to my PC.
2. Make sure I have all the re-install cabs ready.
3. Flash new rom (or in your case do a hard reset).
4. Wait until rom is loaded - don't configure anything yet - and hard reset again (this is reported to make the rom run faster).
5. NEVER TOUCH EXTERNAL GPS SETTINGS.
6. Configure all things built-in to the rom (like timezone, language settings, notifications etc) BEFORE connecting to the pc.
7. Connect to pc and re-sync all my outlook data.
8. Switch off kaiser then switch on again using power button (not soft reset) - this forces any registry changes to be written to registry before the reset is performed.
9. Run quickGPS.
10. I always install and set-up my GPS programs next: GpsTEST, Visual GPSCE and TomTom.
Now to set-up GPS.
11. Make sure phone is well charged.
12. Go somewhere outside with a good view of the sky, no buildings etc - preferably no clouds.
13. Run QuickGPS again if this was first run more than a couple of hours ago.
14. Start GpsTEST. This will scan your phone and automatically set up the program for the correct com port and baud rate.
14. Leave GpsTEST running, put the phone down and drink a cup of tea or two, read a book etc - keep checking the phone every 10 minutes or so. I normally get a fix within a few minutes but sometimes 30 or 60 if sight of sattellites is not too good.
15. When GpsTEST shows as running (you'll have a number in the HDOP box and green vertical bars) the GPS is now working fine.
16. Now I start my tomtom and usually find sattellites within seconds.
17. I then ALWAYS run GpsTEST or VisualGPSCE before starting my navigation program (tomtom) because it gets a fix much quicker.
Let us know if this works and I hope it helps...
Will give it a go in the morning and let you know how I get on
Thanks
stupid eBay. At least, you got a better rom though and the person above me had great advice so use it wisely before you return a great phone.
Its still not working,
Hard Reset to start a fresh, ran quick gps, then ran gpstest, it scanned the ports and when it reached Com4 it hung,I left it for a few mins and tried to close the prog, which it did but the GPS led kept flashing, no further forwards.
Help please pretty please

Oh no!!! Now you're really in trouble... Now you can flash Roms, Your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/vacuum/favourite pet etc will now take second place to XDA and the flashing frenzy
Make sure the person you bought from had put HardSPL on the phone (go into bootloader and it will tell you the SPL version) - if not, flash it before you put any more roms/radios on.
Also, if you didn't upgrade your radio you'll probably need to because Sleuth 3.0 is a WM6.1 based rom. If you don't you may get camera and/or sound problems.
Anyway, glad you sorted it out
I loaded Hard Spl myself and the Radio was upgraded at the same time.

have you tried to flash with stock rom and done a few hard resets before you flash with custom rom
iv switched from many roms including stock and many radios still does it and iv done many hard resets
before you run tomtom after a softreset you need to run quickgps and open your gps with an application such as htc_gps_tool or gps_test, otherwise you'll have more fun watching paint dry.

running quickgps does provide a quick fix. But with the quickgps data still valid, it should not be necessary to update quick gps should it? And with valid quick-gps data, after a soft reset, it will take ages to get a fix... In the early days with WM6.0 and TomTom6.032, I always had a quick fix. I tried loads of different radio roms, no solution... The only thing I still have to try is to super CID my phone (I have a WWE version and installed Hardspl 3.56 though). But if anyone can provide me a solution, it would be great!

See above.... there isn't anything in WM 6.1 that you need that isn't in WM 6.0 is there? Although I'd certainly like to think the latest would be greatest as far as GPS perfomance is concerned, with regards to WWE HTC ROMs, this certainly isn't the case. Stick with what works (or revert if required).

uk radio

ok, so this may be a lame question and probably depends on a lot of variables but can anyone suggest a good radio for use in the uk??
is there such a thing, i've tried lots and so far seem to like a few but i still can't get the bl**dy GPS to work properly
i get a loke in about 10 mins if lucky.
i've used poldo's rom and ngy's and pda ultimate, and for my purposes poldo's seems the quickest and most stable to me.
any help would be appreciated.

Using Radio in sig, lock about 2-3 mins, using mcguider "to which isn't the greatest sat nav prog"
yeah thanks for that. used that for a while, made my rom fast but gps lock was poor.
what do you think of the emo radio?

UK Radio version
I have dutty's 6.1 final with radio version 1.58.25.14. I am on T-Mobile and all is fine with my Kaiser. All this software was from the Kaiser software section on XDA.
Hope this helps

Haven't used emo as have used the radio mentioned with no issue on every ROM i flash and even 3 carriers.
Do you use quickgps and have you tryed running GPSTest as you will find fix faster, also will always take longer for fix off cold boot.
I used to live in Solihull area of Birmingham and use 1.71.09.01 radio with 3G switched on (HSDPA off) and I could leave it with data connected all day and sync my mail every 15 minutes and at the end of the day after a few short calls I would still have 40 - 50% left.
I have just moved to South Wales (valleys area) and the same setup down there my battery is on 0% by 4pm. So I have had to kill 3G and set mail to manually refresh to get through the day.
fixed it
gps test installed and a new radio 1.65.16.25
get a gps fix in about 10secs.
i come from south wales, lived near the vally's in bedwas. now live and work in greenwich london.

thanks for everyones input.

Glad you got this resolved but I used that Radio with the 'initial' UK HTC official WM 6.1 ROM update and it well and truely broke my GPS (compared to the WM 6.0 setup in my sig I'm back to using). I have no need to use gps test or any programs other that Tomtom Navigator 6.032 so I strongly suspect your results have more to do with GPS Test or the ROM, than that particular radio.
