Kaiser would not load with a SIM card in - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi there.
I've got this Kaiser that doesn't load when the SIM is inserted.
It works perfectly without the SIM. Also when the device is on and i stick the sim card it shuts down.
Its not on warranty or anything, also aint mine, but if i fix it i get to keep it(i hope) so please help if u know how to.

Thats normal. The SIM card should be inserted/removed with the device off.

Just did it again to make sure. Completely powered off the device by removing the battery, inserted the SIM, turned it on. When it got the green Windows Mobile screen it just died.
Also tried it with a different SIM from a different operator

Give more info about your device such ROM, radio, SIM unlocked or no, HardSPL, etc...

I am purely going on a guess here. Is the phone stolen or did someone just find it? Sounds to me like the SIM has been locked as well as the IMEI by the original service provider. If you insert the SIM card while it is powered off and then power it on and it doesn't boot bast the windows screen and with the SIM card out, it boots normally, sounds like a service lockdown on a phone reported stolen or lost.

ROM: dutty's WM6.1 (the lat one from here)
radio version: 1.65.14.06
protocol 25.81.40.02W
I have also HardSPLed it. It was doing the same with factory settings and it does the same after i updated everything to the most recent version.

The unit was bought in a bulk by local British Petroleum (BP) office, so the stolen or found unit version doesn’t really suit the case and nobody is really gonna deal with warranty because of one device.
Also it shuts itself down very quickly. Normally the green screen lasts about 15 seconds or so. With a SIM card in it wouldn’t even last 3 secs, therefore it doesn’t even get connected to the network (I think) and shuts itself down.. Also if the IMEI is blacklisted I don’t think the network has the ability to shut down the device, you just won’t be able to make or receive calls.

I was hoping that it would have been something simple like that. but no, i was dealing too much with these HTC's. I will post a video of what it does later on today.

If you leave the sim card out does it boot normally?

OK right after i made the video i left it on charge for couple of hours. i picked it up, turned it on and it booted up. it didnt boot with a sim card for a week and now it does. (i sound like a dumb blonde now)
HOWEVER
it wouldnt register on the network. it doesnt matter wheather it is automatic or manual it just doesnt get connected. i can do a manual search and see the list of networks but when i select my provider it doesnt connect. no probs with the network as i use it in my Herald.

UPDATE
Overhere we have two main mobile operators. One is Bakcell another one is Azercell.
What happens now is that it works fine with Bakcell chips but doesnt with Azercell.
Both of the operators arent that advanced yet to have some sort of restrictions etc to ban the handset or whatever. They dont even have 3G so there.
So, there i am. Stuck with an operator i do not need anyways(cuz the company is not paying for it) What could be a possible solution?

Interesting, any chance to get another Azercell SIM, just for be sure that is really the network?
So many (as you said) blonde mistakes, so double check every test.

i did check it with two Azercell SIMs. i also have a UK T Mobile SIM, which wudnt register on Azercell but works on Bakcell.

Do you guys think a radio downgrade would solve this issue ?

Putting in the SIM card on the fly

Just got my Kaiser, lovely boxing, lovely phone but I've had a little unpleasant surprise - I've entered SIM card while phone was already on. In result Kaiser have just crashed - I mean switched off itself. Anyone else noticed similar trouble? Does it mean there is still need to switch the phone off before changing SIMs?
Anyway, going to explore Kaiser.
its not a crash, its just what it does from what I have read, so i guess its just not "hot swapable"

It seems like - switching off occurs in the exact moment of unlocking SIM card cover... Well, shame - SIM hotswapping would be really cool
SIM card hot swapping is really bad. I work at a Operator and you don't want to know what kind of network trouble this can bring.
I've also had the Kaiser for a couple weeks now, and yes, it is supposed to shut down when you open the SIM cover. It's just for your own protection, you can even break your SIM if you remove it while the device is on (and, has a electric current flowing to the SIM).
thats what many design work are done to prevent users from doing things dangerously. If you've noticed, that all phones SIM cards are hidden under the battery and/or blocked by the battery in one way or the other. That's to force user to shut down the phone before doing anything with it. I'm sure that's for the protection of the SIM and/or not making a mess on the telco system, which may heavily affect the phones popularity
Not true. Another HTC handset with easy access to SIM card slot locatyed under slide out keyboard:
HTC VOX

HTC TOUCH - side access to SIM card

Interesting.. I'd guess I'm at the old age. I did a bit of research, it seems that THERE ARE phones out there that can have hot-swap SIM. This is news. From Nokia N93 review
The hot-swap SIM slot is a very good solution, especially for users having more than one SIM. It allows you to exchange SIM cards without the necessity to switch off the phone and remove the battery. It is enough to switch phone in offline mode while changing card. At least it should work and it works on N90 just fine but on N93 with the current firmware version it is impossible to remove the SIM card even in offline mode because it causes prompt freezing.

Such as? Hotswapping SIM card from network's point of view looks exactly the same as removing battery without actually switching off the phone, as many people do. In such case network get no notification (IMSI detach) at all about switch off, and the only 'trouble' is network still 'thinks' that user is reachable until the next PLU (Periodic Location Update) or call attempt..
Well explained article on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMSI_detach

That's reasonable explanation. I have never got SIM card damaged, but I'd rather prefer not to experience it in future. In fact, my the very first SIM card I have *ever* had is already over 8 years old and still works perfect.

Help revive my dead Kaiser

I have a big problem which I hope all you Kaiser gurus can offer some advice:
I got my Kaiser two weeks ago, pop in my USA T-mobile sim card (GSM only) and it worked perfectly. I then went over to Taiwan and the device was put in Airplane mode for about 10 days. When I get back to the states, the phone no longer works; all other features of WM6 works except it the phone service.
It cannot find the t-mobile network regardless in auto or manual network selection mode. I tried the SIM card on my other phone and it works perfectly so that rules out the SIM card. I did a hard reset and it didn't cure the problem.
Question is, can the altitude or air cabin pressure somehow killed the phone portion of the unit?
What other diagnostic methods do you recommend?
Hmm I dont know if this is a good idea but emergency services like 911 should still work, even without service. And by that I mean without being signed up for service. So it might help to test 911, then hang up if it rings once. Just to see if your radio still works. If it does, then the issue might be that the phone is not configured correctly to T-mobile.
Now this is only true in the USA. I'm not sure where you are from. But given that the USA has just about the oldest infrastructure in any developed nation, I'm confident it can only be better where you are from.
No, 911 does not work. Does this mean my radio is fried? What can I do?
hmm... this sounds like a bad radio flash gone wrong... and not saying so!
I tried it with my friend's AT&T Sim and it worked perfectly. Does it mean it's the carrier's problem?
it means probably your phone got sim lock somehow. Just do hard spl and unlock it.
I'd get another T-Mobile sim card if your device works fine with an AT&T sim. I realize you said your T-Mobile sim works great in another phone, but that's the only thing that makes sense.
Ok I'll try that. Problem is, I have several other T-mobile lines and I tried those SIMS already and no cigar.
Anyone else can contribute any ideas? HTC is not support me because this is an import phone.

it does NOT unlock the SIM !!
hello all
i got the "no sevice" problem which looks like the same as Valleydog's.
i got my kaiser about 1 month, everything goes very well
today im in class and turn on the flight mode.
when i turn off the flight mode, it cant find the sevice any more,it tells "no sevice"
i cant dial any number including 911,86,110 etc......i swap my friends' cards they couldnt work, too
oh,just a nightmare to me, i flash the htc ship rom(which contains a radio),problem still...
could anybody help me, was it suddenly sim locked? possible?
Why such bad thing happens on me(good person)...........
KAIS130 with hspl v1,flashed many roms without problem, just this problem suddenly scares me
Sheng
This happened to me briefly the other day; running a stock T-Mobiles Vario III with NO rom flashing done to it.
I went to make a call and there was no service. The phone had been in my pocket for a while. I soft reset it and it worked after that, but took about 5 minutes before it picked up a signal... It's been fine since though.
This really sucks... I will head down to the T-mobile store and try out all their SIM cards until I find one that works.
The thing that puzzles me is that the other carrier's SIM (AT&T) works fine

Here's an update...I tried 3 working SIMS cards in T-mobile store on my phone and it still does not get signal.
Very frustrated at this point.
My phone worked intermittently at one point but now it's dead again. What a piece of crap.
This is so annoying, and HTC have no answer regarding this issue.
It is clearly not a hardware fault!!!
I have the same problem & it is so frustrating you guys can't imagine.
I have always loved HTC machines, but I am thinking never again!

saper747 (andre),
Where are you located and what have you done to troubleshoot the problem so far?
Did you call T-Mobile to see if they have something configured wrong on their end? If the phone works with an AT&T sim, it would seem something on T-Mobile's side wasn't right.
There is nothing wrong as confirmed by T-mobile, the same SIM works on any other unlocked phone except my Kaiser

switch off when simcard inserted

hi guys,
i got TYTN II brand new whenever simcard inserted, phone start up then switch off itself.
without simcard start up ok, go all the way to the main screen.
is this to do with the Radio rom?? i flash with the original rom still no luck.
have anyone here experience this
thanks
Sounds like the SIM card isn't inserted well or the contacts are dirty (or could be the SIM card). Try cleaning the contacts on the SIM and device first and make sure the door is securely shut.
I think you have this confused. When you switch it up it turns off the phone so you can turn it on and the phone recognized the sim, if it would stay on when you put the sim, it wouldn't recognize the sim, so put it in then keep it in and turn it on and it should have recognized the sim. If you know that already, then do what Jwy said, I recommend rubbing alcohol and 100% cotton.
my device is working ok, but everytime i just unlock the sim card slot (without touching the card itself, my device shuts down, no matter which rom or radio rom.
It's no problem for me because i've just got one single sim card, but if i would have two different sim's....
Is this the standard behaviour ? I think it's strange, just curious about that...
that is normal , there is a little switch behind it that turns your device off .
some kind of protection.
Right, most phones have the sim under the battery so you must pull the battery to insert the sim. The Kaiser cuts the power with a switch on the sim door to protect the sim from a "hot" insertion and possible damage when changing sims.

you didn't read my msg propely,
" switch off when simcard in the phone" if i take to simcard out, the phone boot up fine, ok
i switch it off then put simcard in (clip the simcard's door) then turn the phone on, just say HTC logo then switch itself off

i mention that i got 2 TYTNII ok.
i swap the motherboard between eachother, still the same.
so i think either RADIO ROM or HARDWARE !!
so i want opinion here, whether its the HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE???

Ah, ok. You don't have to get mad . It could be software. I have seen this happen to people. Try a different rom & radio.

Please help, put in Sim card, shows 'no service'

Hi
I just got on at&T 8925, I put in sim card and it did not ask for unlock code, so I guess it is unlocked, I put in my sim card (Fido Canada, works in other phone) and it show "no service" can not find phone network signal.
I tried
ATT ROM 1.57.502.2 and
RUU_Kaiser_ROGERS_WWE_1.83.631.4_radio_sign_22.51.88.13_1.27.15.32R_Test.exe
radio 1.27.12.11 and 1.27.15.32
all same problem.
Can anyone help me, are these rom combinations not good? or something wrong with the device?
or anything I need to do?
thank you for your help !
Try another known-good SIM card. If you still cannot get service, then you probably have a hardware issue with the phone.
Sounds stupid, but did you make sure you put the SIM in the right way around.
You wouldn't believe how many people have not done this right.
Sounds like it's not unlocked... when I got mine it wasn't unlocked but it only asked for a code once.... just run the unlocker to be sure...
maybe to hard reset?
Hi thanks for everyone's help.
I think I put the sim card the right way , otherwise it will show 'no sim card'
I am keep trying other rom/radio; still no luck, it either keep searching or say 'no service'
I really hope it is not hardware problem.
hope if anyone has the experience and could help me
it really confuse me.
Thanks

welll this might be a little solution i read in another thread...sum times the phone will not read the sim becuz its not making enough contact to the phone...so maybe a little piece of paper on top of the sim then put it in the phone MIGHT help..if it doesnt then ur phone is jacked up =P
or
when i put my tmobile sim in my unlocked 8925 it worked and then a couple our couldnt get n e service... and i checked my brothers phone and dad and they didnt have service too... so maybe sumtimes the network will nto work for a while. or sumthing
If you go in the phone options and do a manual network search, does it find anything?
Thanks brian_v3ntura:
but I tried paper, same thing, maybe not be contact problem.
Thanks kilrah:
I tried that, it shows " cannot read setting from network, try viewing setting later or disconnect data connection and try again."
I did saw something online that maybe because the Fido sim card maybe old (about 3 years), but it did work with sth. like Samsung blackjack II. maybe Kaiser is more complicated.
just wonding if anyone have experience that old sim card may have problem with new phones.
I will keeping trying...
My SIM card is about 4 years old.
I'd bet your Kaiser has a hardware problem.
Hi, guys
I tried a friend's Fido sim card, it works, I don't what's the difference, but it is just like that, maybe I should go get a new card.
Thanks everyone.
good

yeah, just what confused me is that the sim card still work with my other phones.
Hey guys,
Long time lurker here... and I'm having the same problem.
I have a foreign (Cyprus CytaMobile Vodaphone) SIM in my Kaiser. A couple times over the last few days I was getting the "no service" but if I reset (turn on/off) the device it was fine. Today I cannot get service on it at all. I tried it in an unlocked 1G iPhone and it didn't seem to work either.
I thought maybe the SIM is dead, however when the device it's in starts up, it asks me for the PIN set on the SIM card. I enter the PIN, and it unlocks the SIM. How could the SIM be dead if the PIN authenticates? However, when I put my regular Canadian Rogers SIM in, it works fine.
Where it usually says "Searching.." on the home screen, I once got "Denied, searching.." but I haven't been able to reproduce it.
Any ideas? The provider doesn't have a local roaming agreement, however for the past year it has always registered on the network and allowed me to check balance and send text messages.
Is it most likely a dead SIM or blocked by Rogers? I'm doubting the blocked part, but the successful PIN entry is what has me baffled...
Thanks!
Chris
Ok different SIM card also from Cyprus Cytamobile in a SE w810 does the same thing. Is Rogers seriously all of a sudden blocking these? There is no local roaming agreement, however I would always get the Rogers welcome text's and even be able to check balances. I've been doing this off and on for 4 years...
Anyone ever heard of something like this?
Thanks,
Chris
P.S. Sorry, getting a bit off topic but I thought the initial problem was related!
EDIT: Ok, I can also see all the SIM contacts and SMS messages stored on the SIM.

Does it say no sim card, or just no service. If it doesn't recognize the sim card. then it is probably sim locked. If it recognizes the sim card, but just offers no service, it could just be your connection settings.

Hello,
I didn't want to start a new thread, because this one is somehow connected with my problem
So here it is:
I've been using my phone for about a month, it used to show full network ect. My friend gave me an anthenna for gsm mobiles (well, sometimes it didnt work properly when I was in the basement i.e.) so i tried it. Worked perfectly, except it was sticking out. So i thought that I don't want to use it and disconected it. Since then it shows no service, sometimes "1 dot" in network display. Tried hard reset - didn't work. When i put the anthenna back, it shows full network again.
Please, tell me, what should I try.
Thank you in advance
I seem to recall reading somewhere here that once you put in an external antenna, something gets tripped and the phone will only work with an external antenna from that point on.
Sorry -- don't recall any details. Try searching.
