HTC Touch Diamond
can this be true, i have mine on pre-order

probably and a 500 quid it can stay in stock !! Thats a shocking price

I have not ordered from there, but i have been told 9th June at least , thats is expensive but how they got them so quick before everyone else
Thanks
Brian

Well thay are a massive company now and i guess have a close working relationship with HTC . Or they are grey imports in which case you will pay way way over the odds with a warranty in china or bermuda or somewhere silly.
The problem is is they are notorious for selling all new releases above the recommended price . I personally wont use them anymore as i feel they rip people off . By next week when everyone has stock they will drop there price but still not competetively !
It is us the consumer that keeps them afloat and as long as we keep buying from them at over inflated prices then who is the fool . I would love everyone to boycott them because of this but that urge for a new device can be pretty hard o resist at times . They know this and like leaches bleed you .
I have posted several posts in their forums on their over pricing and every single one of them has been removed . I think that speaks for itself really.

Yeah, they do tend to price things ridiculously. The funny thing is I don't mind a small premium in exchange for knowing that they are the cutting-edge gadget provider, who will get us the coolest gadgets first, but the key word is 'small'.
I think when the N95 8GB came out they had it at around £600 for a week or so.

expansys appear to have some tie up with htc - if you go through www.htc.com and goto uk as country then accesory shop - you end up on a site hosted by expansys - so I think that they are probably not grey imports and I also think they are milking the cash cow for being able to get them early....
Malarcy

Yeah, Expansys do seem to have them in stock. Personally, I'd rather save near £100 by waiting for a few days.

Yep Expansys is a rip off, they charge stupidly high prices for their phones...well the new upcoming ones like the Diamond. When i bought my N95 8gb , they were selling it for around £600!!!...thankfully i got one off ebay for £350 brand new.
Im actually dreading seeing the price for the new SE Xperia X1...wouldnt be surprised if they sell that at well over £600.

lol EXPANSYS uped the price again . They are so obvious !!
I would never buy from them again. Loads of other retailers around that are a lot cheaper

They got stung trying to do grey HP imports years ago, as non EU items sold in UK are not allowed, I would be very very suprised if they are grey imports, as they are breaking the law and I suspect most people would be sending them back, we have very good consumer laws here in UK.

Hello,
I ordered my Diamond english EU on May 7 in expansys.pt and today I received confirmation that I sent the Diamond English UK, tomorrow already have it here in Portugal
Someone can tell me if there is any difference between the English version EU and UK English ?!!??

It's also in stock at On The Go Solutions: http://www.htcphonestore.com/product.asp?itemMDL=HTC_DIAMOND

Grey Imports doesn't mean they are grey ;o) . I'm sure they are black. A grey import is a machine (Touch Diamond) that is for reasale in another country being sold in the wrong country.
EG Touch Diamonds ment for China being sold in the UK are classed as grey imports. Your warranty can only be delt with in China .. Hope this helps and thanks for making me smile.

Already seen that before posting.
The website shows it as UK item, they would be selling counterfeit goods if they are not UK (or EU), which means trading standards would be very interested.
And like you said HTC will be livid.

Expansys says that the warranty is HTC's Worldwide warranty. Still the price is a little bit too much.

Someone on the expansys forums has posted saying they ARE imports. Oh dear! I would say punish expansys and everyone send them back under the various laws they have broken and/or the sale of goods act/distant selling laws.

Bit odd that all the defaults are to Hong Kong
Makes you wonder where they were sourced from ... Still, loving it .. only had it a couple of hours and everyone in the office wants a play!

that's because it is a Hong Kong device that is not covered by HTC's global warranty.
If it dies, you'd have to send it back to Hong Kong to get it fixed!
An EU English device would default to Seattle timezones etc. Not Hong Kong.

Anything wrong with buying one form Hong Kong?

With regards to the TyTn II...
My buddy is vacationing in Hong Kong this week and I was wondering if I'll run into any problems if I have him pick one up for me in the market over there?
I need to have him make sure that it's a 120 with 2 cameras.
I need to have him make sure it's not a German version with the 'z' and 'y' keys reversed.
Are there any other issues or things to consider?
Will I be able to re-flash? I don't know what else to ask.
I don't know if they are available, what the price might be or anything else. I'm also not able to have him bring back a box of them -- he's just a friend on vacation who might be able to do me a favor. (i.e. I'm not going to become a salesman for these.)

Sure, why not. Its not like china has a horrible reputation lately LOL
On a serious note, I dunno, still waiting for mine from at&t. I couldnt resist though.
I bought mine from HK..it's English Version...
All kaiser in HK is with 2 cameras, comes with 1 yr warranty..If any problem within 10 days..they will replace it with new one..
Right now... mine is working great..
Only the ATT ones will have the 100,200 etc. All the HTC branded phones will be unlocked and have all the features.
Consider warranty aspect
The Kaiser versions sold here are with 2 cameras and not locked to any carrier, and available in English. Comes with UK compatible power plug.
Only downside is that there is no worldwide warranty, just Hong Kong warranty.
Price?

Thanks so much for the info and advice.
If I was going to send my buddy around do you have any advice on what the name of the best market is and what his top negotiating price should be (in HK$)? He's Chinese but grew up in the US so he'll probably get taken advantage of like any other expat? LOL
He's been staying near Wan Chai.
Thanks again!

There is a Wan Chai computer mall near where your friend is staying. They have some reputable shops such as Master OA, etc. Some other shops to buy from are Broadway, Fortress, Wilson phone shops, telco shops (CSL and 12Free) - they have shops in many places.
For now, it seems price is pretty standard (HK$5980-6180) since there is only official goods (i.e, from authorized distributor) available. So, it is unlikely your friend will get cheated there. There are 2 versions, English and Chinese with the earlier in lower quantity.
Hope this helps.

Saw it selling for $5800HKD yesterday at Mongkok Sin Tat building i dont think it comes with freebies.

Yeah Sin Tat building has tons of shops selling mobile phones including unlocked iPhone and Kaiser. They may have lower price but the I personally prefer buying from more reputable shops.
Hm, regarding ur friends, maybe u should buy some (>1 Kaiser) just in case ur friends turn nasty.

UK Stock

Is it available anywhere in UK other than Expansys? TotalPDA says 'In Stock' but when you call them they say the 13th.

Well your only choice is Expansys then but beware you will get a non uk spec model which means you wont get any HTC UK warranty support. IF anything goes wrong with it, you will need to send it back to Expansys for them to sort out and the worst part about it??...you will only get 12mths warranty not the usual 18-24mth warranty that comes with UK spec models. Plus you will have to register the unit with HTC Asia to get any updates.
The worst thing is that Expansys are selling at a far higher price than other retailers. Personally if i was you, id wait the extra week or so...totalpda are saying they will have them next week and they are selling them for £410...a hell of alot more cheaper than Expansys.
But your choice though, i wouldnt touch Expansys with a barge pole now...

I would say its the best thing you could do mate, im really after one myself although am not too sure if ill end up keeping it but id rather wait an extra week or so and get a proper UK spec model...that way i know ill have tech support by HTC UK and updates via them as well. But thats not to say that you wont get updates via HTC or warranty if you do buy a grey import...just means that you will have register the unit on the asian website rather than the uk one. Plus theres always the fear that seeing as you didnt buy it from a uk retailer, you might not end up getting it fixed/replaced should it go wrong etc. And just to point out, Expansys havent as of yet even confirmed what or how the warranty works with these grey imports.
Plus too many times inthe past ive paid a silly price to have the latest phone, only to find out that the price dropped in a matter of days.
Yeah fair comment - you sound as bad as me! I just want something to play with over the weekend!

Yeah tried that bit only HK sellers at the min - can't really justify that round trip! The only UK seller says No cash on collection.
I really don't see the problem with buying from Expansys.
So what if they're grey imports? No-one knows for sure the situaion with regard to warranty etc. And how many people have ever had to use the warranty anyway? The one thing that everyone seems to agree on is Expansys will handle repairs under warranty in the first year, and I can't see many people on here having the device for more than 12 months anyway!
Regarding software updates, I'm sure that anything HTC release will be available on here.
The only problem I can see is the price but I decided I wanted one now so I've stumped up the extra money to get it now.
Also, I would have money on TotalPDA et al having further delays, I think the DeviceWire date of 23rd June is more likely than next week, so I've bitten the bullet and gone down the Expansys route. And with Saturday delivery I should have it tomorrow
I don't think you'll regret it. I have mine and it's very, very nice. Make sure you do the cache size tweak in the tweaks post fairly soon after you get it. It makes all the difference, it's very fast now and the Touchflow is working 100% better. Can't see anything 'wrong' with the phone at all. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am!
Another Potential Source
I pre-ordered mine from Play.com if anyone's interested.
Cheapest price I found and should be special delivery (next day).
Stock date was originally 9th June but recently changed to 13th and holding there.
All the best.
i,ll giv u 10000% support. noce sound

I know you've bought it now so there's going to be no convincing you but i have to correct you anyway
The point is that you have NO idea what sort of waranty expansys are offering. It could be the case that they have to ship it back to asia to have it repaired adding alot of lead time for their processes on each end.
It could be that they don't cover some minor things that the original waranty would because they don't want to spend money couriering it to HK for something minor - you might say they can't do this because of the terms of the waranty slip or whatever, but there's alot to be said for intepretation of those terms!
The waranty is an added value service to the phone. Even if you never use it, and only keep the phone for 12 months, the resale value of your phone will be alot less in 12 months time vs someone who still has a 12 month UK waranty left.
Also because you don't know what the 'value' of a 12 month expansys waranty is, you could find in 2 months time news breaks online it aint worth ****, and sure you can legally fight for your rights, but your resale value on your phone will be impacted drasticly.
And for the risk of all this you're paying potentially 90 pounds more, to have it 1 or 2 weeks early. Hey thats your decision, but please don't be one of those people who tries to convince themselves it aint like it is. It is like it is, and if you go ahead, do it knowing that!
I'm not sure how that post was correcting me, it was just offering your opinion which of course you're entitled to.
I've had mobile phones for many many years, and lots of different HTC models and I've never had to claim on warranty yet.
I'm happy to pay the extra and take what I think is a very, very minimal risk. If I listened to doom mongers like you I'd never do anything.
Oh and regarding resale values in 12 months when it may or may not be out of warranty, just how much do you really think that will make a difference? Resale value of a 12 month old phone is going to be very low, with or without a year to run on warranty.
OK, it's arrived! Which means I've been able to read the warranty card. The card states 24 months for the phone and 12 months for accessories.
Well if i saw 10 phones on ebay, and 5 of them had 12 months left, i know which i would buy.
Correcting you in that you tried to make out waranty is worthless. Its not!
You may have had 1000 phones for all i care, eventually one will break. Thats just statistics.
With regards to 'If I listened to doom mongers like you I'd never do anything.' you completly missed the point. Its not about omg its all destined to end in misery. Its that there is a very real and sensible argument about waranty and support here. It is your choice weather to buy in spite of that - but instead of saying YOU dont care about the waranty you are implying no one should.
As for the waranty card there are conflicting reports, and this was my point - no one knows the truth right now:
- Some people are saying HTC have told them they categorically WILL NOT waranty the devices outside of their original intended sales region - and variations of essentially the same point.
- One person has said that HTC will not adhere to any terms on paperwork inside the box as it was not intended for this region.
- One person says he was told HTC WILL uphold the waranty.
- Expansys say these devices do have a waranty.
- Expansys refuse to publically confirm the length of the warnanty, but some people have pasted emails from expansys confirming a 12 month waranty.
- Expansys have said that the waranty of the device is through them, not direct with HTC.
- People have been unable to register on the UK site, and only the english HK site.
- If HTC say that these devices were sold in this region without their permission, expansys will be fined again.
Maybe none of that matters to you, but i'm sure it does to some people. The uncertainty at least.
EDIT: Anyway i think my point is made and i don't expect you to agree with it. I'd rather this didnt degenerate into an argument, so thats my last word on it. Respond with any last comments you have on the topic, and lets leave it there
Yep, fair enough, no point arguing about it. Incidentally, the warranty is not transferable if you sell the phone, without HTC's written permission. Such permission will not be reasonably withheld, it says in the warranty card.
Just wondering how many people get this written permission before selling their phones, not many I'll wager.

Diamond for £399.99 from Play.com

I have been waiting patiently to get one on a contract from O2 but I have not heard any news regarding the UK release and I'm beginning to lose patient + the price from Play.com is extremely attractive.
Perhaps I will wait until the iPhone 3G comes out in the hope that the price will come down further
It's £394.99 with this offer...
Tempted to go for it - but then I'm due for a renewal soon with T-Mobile.
Anyone know whether the upgrade from T-Mobile will be free or do they evaluate each case individually?
Just a friendly warning, my experience with Play.com is extremely bad... When they said they sent stuff out, they actually hadn't, delivery weeks later than agreed to, unfriendly/unknowledgable support, etc.
Then again, that might have been a fluke, instead of their general way of dealing with things. After that one time I never ordered from them again
I find Play.com pretty good for stock accuracy! It just ussually takes an extra day due to being in Jersey. I am still waiting on the batteries, but everytime it gets to the release date they change it!! very annoying, But ussually when it says in stock it is!! in my experience anyway!!
If i hadn't already got one! i'd defo be ordering from here!!

I've just replied in another thread regarding play.com
Since they are based in Jersey (a tax free zone) the customers are liable for paying all VAT taxes if the phone gets held up at customs. This is clearly stated in their Terms & Conditions.
2ndly, I called HTC UK the other day and they told me play.com isn't an authorised dealer so you won't get full UK warranty. I'm serious.. a girl at HTC told me...
be careful guys.
well i got a gray import from HK and he gives a 12 month guarantee lol my HTC guarantee is worth nothing anyway after i flashed it, so i will that the £60 i saved (it was about 340 GBP) a spend it if anything does go wrong...

From HM Revenue & Customs website:
Goods purchased from traders in Jersey and Guernsey
Customs has in place with the Jersey and Guernsey Customs and Postal authorities a special scheme that allows many of their traders to collect and pay to UK Customs import VAT on sales they make to UK customers. These traders, who are approved by the Jersey and Guernsey authorities, are allocated a unique authorisation number and this should be stated on the outside of your package. Under these arrangements you will be asked to pay import VAT, if applicable, at the time you make your purchase, and will not have to pay any additional costs such as import VAT, or the Royal Mail handling fee, when you receive your goods.
Unless I misread it, I believe you don't need to pay any import VAT on it.

Sorry, but she's talking crap. HTC offer a global warranty for all their own branded devices, but it doesn't cover shipping costs, and this even covers the ones sold on grey import by expansys.
So worst case scenario, you have to pay for the courier to Milton Keynes and back....not exactly the end of the world!
And as for Play.com, I have been using them for years, and bought all sorts of stuff from them. never had to pay import duties, even on an xbox 360, and only ever had one problem, which the remedied as soon as the item was back in stock. Play are actually one of the better and more trustworthy online retailers out there.....
And besides, if your address is registered in the UK, they charge you VAT anyway....they seem to be one of the ones under that customs scheme mentioned above somewhere.
Dammit.... was just on Play.com, credit card in hand and its gone up to £429! Ragin, I missed the offer!

I went and ordered it from HandTec (www.handtec.co.uk) because it uses Google Checkout, makes my life that little easier!
It cost £425. So not too bad, most places are all around that price...
I'll be on this site now for the next week after I get it going through the forum and configuring it... I hope since I ordered it so late its the latest ROM!
Look forward to plenty of "OMGs this phone is wrecking my head" and "OMG I love it" replies

Well if they are uk spec then it will have the latest rom on it but like yourself i was a noob coming from a nokia n95 8gb symbian phone but ive enjoyed learning about this phone.
Just make sure the first thing you do is APPLY THOSE TWEAKS in the tweak thread...it will make it a hell of alot more better. ITs a shame that you have to apply those tweaks to make this phone really shine..should come like that but it seems like HTC just wanted to get the phone out asap.
Feel free to ask any questions if you have any problems...its the only way your gonna learn but before i got my phone..i read through most of the threads here so when i got the Diamond...i had a bit of a head start.
BTW thats a damn good price you got yours for..i paid £445 for mine from clove.
Doe anyone know if HTC diamond sold by play.com is a UK version or a grey import?

This is my first post here, but the site is great and I've been coming back here for about 2 weeks while trying to decide if I should buy a diamond and I have to say the people, reviews and discussions have certainly swayed my choice into getting one. It was touch and go (pardon the pun) for a while after some initial bad reviews, but since the ROM update it seems everybody is a lot happier! I know it will take a bit of tweaking, but I'm a S/W engineer, so its nothing I'm afraid of, but it will be my first WM device, so I'm a little scared...
I nearly opted for the iPhone, but its a brick, if not a pretty cool device, but I want something that I can put in my pocket and use as a normal phone... I have an iPod for music and videos, a phone is a phone (but the GPS rocks)
Anyway, I digress, I do have only 2 questions and the first one is pretty redundant from reading this forum, but here goes:
I saw a Touch Diamond for sale on eBay and the guy selling it said that he was selling it because he was disappointed because when he came to use the GPS it was a lie and that he needed an extra component and had to carry something else around? Whats all this about. I did freak a little when I read in all the spec sheets that it was GPS "READY"... what does READY mean? I assume it comes with it all from reading the reviews.
Second question, since my mind is pretty made up and I will be getting one, where is the best place to buy one (for the UK, and UK spec) I'm not looking for cheapness, as i know they are knew and average is around £450ish (inc VAT and Delivery) but dunno where to get one from (Not eBay anyway) any advice on the best online shop, or if anybody knows of any shops that sell them (in Manchester) that would be great.
Thanks for any help in advance!
DG
Plenty of places in the UK to buy them from, if you had done a search you would have found a thread that listed all the places in UK that are selling them and they are uk spec.
But for you ill name a few:
www.expansys.com now have the official uk spec Diamonds
www.clove.co.uk
www.play.com
www.totalpda.co.uk
www.powerupmobile.com
www.htcdirect.co.uk
those are your best bets...think Expansys is based in Manchester but dont know if they allow you to go there and pick up the phone...best to ring them i suppose.
I would recommend Play.com. Never had any problems with them and at the moment it's only £399.99 with free delivery. Others sell it for about £435 or £440.
Yeah, sorry, should have done a search, but battery was dying on the laptop and no plug in sight!
Anyway, thanks for the links guys. I did heard that expansys were selling non official versions and thats one reason I asked, I have used them before but for nothing really as expensive as this.
Thats really cheap for Play, I may used them since I have an account with them...somewhere!
Now I will have the agonising wait and ensuing dissapointment that when I wake up the postman hasn't brought it its going to be a LONG week!

Woah. If they don't have some super secret locking technology we've not seen until now, that could be a SERIOUSLY GOOD bargain....

The general consensus is that this is only if you're a business customer buying an additional handset for your account.
Surely if most places are selling it for £400+ Vodafone won't be giving them away with no contract?!
I saw the eBay one with the guy saying no GPS too - and got a bit worried about my pre order one. I actually emailed him and asked about it. He replied saying it was GPS Ready, but needed additional hardware. After a bit of research I emailed him back again saying I was sure it definately had it built in - within another day the auction had closed early!
Whether he'd done a quick sale, or realised his error - who knows?!
Play is the best price - unless you can get a bargain on eBay. Watch out for 'Next Day' sellers whos small print says a week+ unless you pay extra postage!
WARNING!!! if you buy from play.com in the UK, you'll have to pay VAT tax as the unit will probably be held up in customs.. reason being, Play.com ships from a tax free zone.
It's clearly stated in their terms & conditions that the customer is responsible for taxes. Read the fine print!!
2ndly, I called HTC UK the other day and they told me play.com isn't an authorised dealer so you won't get full UK warranty. I'm serious.. a girl at HTC told me...
If it is a USA order
If you are in the US, then the best place to buy the phone is from Ryan at Negri Electronics. I had a problem with the first two phones (the first was a power issue, the second was wifi). I emailed them in the morning, and by the afternoon I had a UPS overnight tracking order. They included return labels, and it was no questions asked. I have bought all my luxry phones starting back at the Nokia 8800 and up til now (yes I have a addiction for cell phones). NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE! The Diamond also registered on the HTC site. The phone is shrink wrapped in the retail package (he has a network, and actually travels to get the product on or before release that are not grey's). Price my be higher or lower but not by much. I trully think its worth it, because you don't have to wonder about what your are getting or when. They ship the next business day (I gotta give them credit on their speed and customer service. The answer emails right away, and phone calls are 99% answered, and messages are returned immediately.
Heres the direct link: DIAMOND- http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-unlocked-p-1506.html
DIAMOND PRO: http://www.negrielectronics.com/htc-touch-pro-p-1530.html
Desktop CRADLE: http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-desktop-cradle-g300-p-1526.html
Mine is perfect. They really have their business together.
PS: This is not an advertisement, this is my honest opinion. I have made purchase from expansys (paid for overnight, got it a week later).
Do we know when UK networks are gonna start selling these on contracts?
Im assuming all of them are branding this phone?

Tmobile will be doing them from end of the month from what i have heard..as for voda, orange and o2 they will be carrying it but dont really know when...possibly July??.
As for branding??..yep you can be 110% sure that they will be all branded to some extent. As usual Tmobile will make sure its locked to their network and probably Orange. Voda and o2 will probably sell it unlocked but with their branding on it.

I bought mine from Devicewire - and when I registered it with HTC - it only says I have a one year warranty. I thought UK devices were supposed to have 2 years?

Really??? hmm... call HTC and ask them I guess...
Mine shows up as 1 year as well... but with the following message:
Note: Your POP (Proof of Purchase) determines your warranty period. If you cannot provide your POP, your product will be warranted within the above period.
any ideas?? am I still entitled to 2 years warranty??

Going to HK! So, where to go and what to buy?

After 20 years, I finally will be visiting my place of birth again, Hongkong.
I am planning a two day trip somewhere in july, and I'd like to buy some stuff for the HD2, but I'm not familiar in HK.
I did some googling about places to shop for electronics, and came accros something like 'golden computer arcade' and 'sham shui po'. And Shenzen, is that still hongkong or is it mainland china and do i need other visa for it?
There are a few things I'd like to look out for, and if someone who lives in HK can point me out where the buy such stuff, I'd be happy.
1
32Gb microSD. These baby's are available already, but too expensive right now. Do they sell these baby's in HK? And what is their average price? It doesn't needs to be Sandisk per se, any other brand will do. Also, class doesn't matter either, it's just about the storage. And a little bit of quality of course.
2
A decent headset with in ear phones, with music control and maybe some other functions like volume rocker etc. Can be wired or BT. I listen to music occasionaly so I don't need the high end stuff.
3
Does something exists like a bluetooth memorystick/device? for example, some 16gb flash drive, running on a penlite (or two) and have bluetooth that supports for file transfers? Imagine a small size bt memorystick that you can easily cary in your pockets.
4
I'd like to buy a tablet device, but don't want an iPad (too expensive, too locked down, and too Apple) But a KIRF running android or so. Something like this:
http://www.clonedinchina.com/2010/0...clone-packs-1ghz-arm-cortex-a8-processor.html
or this:
www.clonedinchina.com/2010/04/epad-looks-like-a-bigger-iphone-priced-at-394.html
There are a lot of KIRFS and i don't care how they look like. Just need a decent tablet with updated OS and some horsepower on the cheap.
Usage at home, need web browsing, media player, some basic games and voip support.
Any suggestions from someone who lives in HK?
5
Spare parts for HD2, like lcd screen, digitizer, housing etc. Just in case that the best wm6.5 ever made suddenly dies on me.
I bought some adina batteries from ebay, shipped from hongkong, 3 euro's a piece and it still works fine for me.
I know that there are a lot of stuff out there that I actually have to check out myself, but since I will be just two days in HK, I think í'll be too short on time to find shops that offer pretty reliable items. I know that almost everything is a counterfeit, but I don't care about it to much, as long as it works.
I will be editing this post more often the following days, because I want to buy my HD2 some little presents .
Anyone who has a suggestion, please let me know.
Thanks guys.
i am not sure what it is called, but where the markets are in kowloon, the streets running parallel to that should have what you want. one street is electronics, the next is sporting goods and so on. i have never seen so many phone stores in my life. there are also electronic stores spread all over the place in kowloon ranging from the market type shops (ps3 games etc)to large retail types that have everything (kind of like harvey norman) sorry i cant help with names as it has been a few years since i was there, but it is electronics heaven over there. would love to go back also.

I might be able to bring something back, depending the item ofcourse. I don't know if i'll be able to contact you when I'm in HK, it's just a two day trip and data roaming may be mighty expensive. That's why I'm depending on people who live in HK and know the stuff we just might need for the HD2 and tell us what is available.
If you come back with some ideas where to buy stuff and how much it cost it would be nice. I have friends, that travel to HK very often. But they are young women with no sense for tech, and they also will not be able to check hundred stores for me. But I would have any idea, how expensive is for example HD2 in HK I can send them to buy it for me

Hi. i go to HK at least once a year (my wife is from HK) and i advise you not to go to the shops in TST/kowloon as they will rip you off!!!!!.....go to mong kok there is a great shopping centre there that is just for mobile phones its great! and is very big (three floors i think)...i can get an exact address for you from the wifes brother as he still lives in HK. i also know the "golden computer arcade" but its small compared to the one im talking about and sham shui po is more for computer components etc. the mobile phone centre i mentioned sells all sorts of spares and accessories for phones but i was there about 5 months ago and because the hd2 was only just released the was no spare parts available but im sure by now there will be many!!!!! as you asked shenzen is in mainland china (the town on the HK - China border) you will need a visa if youve got a european or us passport...i think i paid 800hk$..But that was for a multi entry 3 month visa so you could probably get a cheaper single entry visa.....
I hope this answers your questions.....if you want the address for the phone shopping centre...just reply to me and i will get it fot you!
Edit......heres the link to show the address for the phone centre

Thanx for the info. I do believe mongkok is a better place to bargain about the price. But i also think that Shenzen is even better considering price ranges, that's what i've read on the web.
http://www.hkstreet.com/story0101j.htm
The above article says that you can pay with HK Dollars in Shenzhen. Does this still aply, because another article says it's not. And none of those articles mentions when they were there.
I've really set my mind on buying a tablet. Any recommandations?

are there many differences between mongkok and shenzhen?
sweet i am coming to hong kong at the end of June for a week and would want to buy an HD2. However I need the Telstra T9193 version. Would Mongkok (and/or) Shenzhen sell such a product?
Don't go to Shenzhen. Shenzhen is in mainland China and not in HK although it's not very far and there they sell mostly China-made copied/look-alike phones/gadgets not the real deal unless u think those fakes are fun.
Mongkok is a good place to go and you can also find good stuff & accessories in the Wanchai Computer Mall on the HK Island side (on Henessary Road right next to the Wanchai MTR station and the Southorn sportsground).

Momax battery for HD2. I have 2 of them and they work well.

I like to look and feel what copies and other counterfeits are all about.
Since i need a simple MID, running android, to read books, browse internet and watch movies, i thought, it does not matter much what brand it is.
What I like to know is, is it true that SEG has more stuff that the shops around mongkok?
Lastly, the most stupid question of the world:
Can i buy buy parts to assemble my own tablet? Or even assemble my own HD3 with 5" capacitive display and running Tegra 2? Just out of curiousity
Do they sell for example complete SBC with a variety kind of chips, hook up an LCD of your choice and let them flash any OS onto it?
You going there for two days?? or did i missed anything?

I've rescheduled my flight, now I'm going three days. yayh... I will be there from july 15 till july 17. I'm planning to stay somewhere near mongkok or nathan road, so when i jump out of bed in the morning, i'll rush out of the hotel, have some pork dumplings and go shopping.
Still, I want to go to shenzhen. Can somebody tell me if I can pay with HKD in Shenzhen?
How unfortunate.
In my op is wrote that I would get some spare parts for the HD2, if it would die on me one day. Well, it just happened to be today.
My daughter dropped it and the screen is broken.
The upper left part of the screen is pitch black, while the rest remains visible and functional. Even multi touch still works.
So I've dissasmbled the whole thing and even placed the HD2 in a preheated oven of 50 degrees, let it there for 10 minutes (as a punishement) and could easily remove the digitizer from it. But is seems the LCD has cracked too, so I'm off to buy a complete new lcd with digitizer. Anyone in HK that can tell me where to get these in HK? Ofcourse, it needs to fit, unlike some other parts I once bought for the n95, it didn't fit at all. Ofcourse, I will bring my HD2 with me, maybe they can fix it for me there on the cheap. I've already disassembled the whole freak.
I'm not going to buy a replacement HD2 since the HD3 will be out within 6 months or so.
So, HK guys, if you have some time, check it out for me, okay?
If you happen to pass by a shop, check it out for me, will ya?
Thanx in advance.
FYI I bought a HD2 in sham shui po last month near the golden computer centre for HKD4590.
