****s over americans again with 900/2100 hdspa/hsupa
looks amazing though
ill be getting one come release, and release date decides whether I get a diamond inbetween

I'd still prefer the diamond. I found I no longer need the physical KB. It really is frustrating wanting the phone, having the cash to buy the phone, willing to import it, but not having one that will work with your network. Oh well. I guess HTC are just asking me to consider alternatives. So they are forcing a loyal HTC owner of the past 3 years to consider Sony, Samsung, and even *gasp* the new iPhone...

According to the spec, I prefer HTC Touch Pro to Diamond.
Anyone know roughly how much will it cost yet?

Yep. I still prefer the Diamond. The design is better and the lack if keyboard (and therefore less thickness) is important to me.

Really torn between these 2, is the next move a Diamond with a keypad, instead of keyboard. keep the thinness but have a physical entry method?
Makes sense to me, can you XDA geniuses fix that too, please......
Also might get the Diamond waiting for the Raphael..

Prize..

you are right about the thickness, diamond is much thiner, I'm hoping to find a foldable external keyboard for diamond.

Is this Touch Pro to be thinner than the Tytn III. If not, HTC will need another excuse for not "fitting" the Quad chip in there!

The evolution at the moment is not that huge compared the keyborad less devices.
But it is already at the same thickness as old keyborad less devices
Raphael (with Keyboard) have now the same thickness as Trinity (without keyboard)
With Keyborad
HTML:
TyTN 113 x 58 x 22 mm & 176 g
TyTNII 112 x 59 x 19 mm & 190 g
TyTNIII 102 x 51 x 18 mm & 165g
Without Keyborad
HTML:
Trinity 108 x 58 x 18.4 mm & 150 g
Polaris 110 x 58 x 15.5 mm & 130 g
Diamond 102 x 51 x 11.4 mm & 100 g

man its a real thing... SD slot .. hmmmm
anytime better then diamond..
but costly

Have you seen Bengal Boy's hands on review of Sony's X1? It's going to be tough to decide between the Touch Pro and the X1 if they hit the street about the same time.

I'd definitely go for the Touch Pro out of those two...although I'm currently planning to just get a Touch Diamond and keep that.

Seems like a HTC Diamond with a Qwerty keyboard added
And the angle of the display doesn't seem to be adaptable
But screw HTC... Hope someone else will get the right video drivers working for the TyTN2,
however my upcoming phones won't be from HTC anymore
this one looks nice, but tytn II also was looking good. and what we got now? just some barely average phone. we will need to think before we buy tytn III.
however, i like the screen being on top and VGA resolution. i don't like diamond style buttons, i prefer real hardware buttons.

.
thats exactly what it is!
One thing that i hated about the diamond theyve fixed in the Touch Pro (well 2 things actually) .. ok 3 things!
- SDHC SLOT!!!!
- Hardward Keyboard
- Light on the camera! Missed that so much ..
Although i'm not liking the look of the joystick, need to test one to see how it feels
And the lack of hardware buttons on the front and side is a bit of a downer! but oh well
If this comes out on orange when my contract ends i'll blag a free one hopefully!
Is there a picture of a phone there somewhere?
Does anybody at their marketing dept know how to take a photograph properly? All those shadows and black make it about as clear as their policy regarding video drivers on the TyTN II. A classic example of attempting style at the expense of practicality as far as I can tell. Are people only getting half a phone when they buy one of these?
Only 2,8" screen? Damn. They could make touch pro with 3" screen.
Question is.... is there same bug still what is in older 2,8" screens?
Using screen in game slows down device awful much
And no tilt! Well my htc kaiser stays special
Still waiting for Sony Ericsson Xperia!

Aaaaaahhhhh, but the Xperia does have an arced screen which slides in an upward motion, not quite the tilt but better than flat.
I still prefer my TyTN II though.
wow!
I love it!
this will be my next device!
now we (we Europeans that is) have to wait for Fall to arrive
do we know what carriers this will be on yet?

Looks like a rip off of the SE Xperia ... but rumor has it that HTC is the OEM for the Xperia ....
I'll be getting the Xperia instead of this unit .... similar specs but Xperia has a better keyboard.
The Tilt/Kaiser 'film' keyboard is an abomination ....
my .02 cents

How on god's green earth can a phone which is cosmetically near-identical to the Touch Diamond, and descended from long line of HTC Tytn-like keyboard devices, possibly be termed "a rip off of the SE Xperia"?
Particularly when this phone is almost certain to be out before the Xperia?
hi guys,
i have the kaiser, the raphael looks cool but IMHO it doesn't worth the switch,
- the display size is the same but with double resolution
- it seems that HTC have developed only some API to make manila run smooth, in that case the 2D will suck like in the kaiser
I will wait .... I was a Kaiser early adopter ... HTC will not fool me again .....
bye bye
That definitely is not going to replace my tytn II
i would buy one to replace my Tilt if the screen were a bit bigger. VGA is great, but at 2.8 it really won't matter. (for me anyway)
not impressed with no tilt action will not be getting this

Later this summer i would imagine...no price but i would take a guess that its going to be a bit more expensive than the Diamond.
i have sold my polaris and i'm waiting for touch pro now i have only a sonyericsson z600 damn
i think real keyboard is meaningless. Diamond without a real keyboard is better, when you hold it on your hand, you will feel it looks more like a real phone. not holding a huge monster on your hand.
the new virtual full QWERTY keyboard will change your mind. find any friends can hand you to try the real HTC diamond.
FFS why do people moan on about the keyboard adding thickness. It's 6.7mm extra, that's like an ipod nano.
So if you already have a thinner device, please say, but if not, then don't moan.
Ok I did some research on all HTC's Pocket PC Phones and came up with thse devices whch are thinner
Artemis 16.8mm
Niki 15.8mm
Polaris 15.5mm
Elf 13.9mm
Advantage 16mm
So this shows us that the Touch Pro is the thinnest device that HTC has produced with a proper keyboard

I had a tytn and a touch cruise...cruise is more handling because was more slim but keyboard on tytn was very useful...
Some specs stop me in my decision:
htc diamond: positive ---> it is present a 4gb hd
negative--->no flash camera e no expansion slot
htc touch pro: positive ---> flash camera more ram than in diamond expansion slot
negative----->qwerty keyboard is more useful but the device it is no so handling as diamond

We have every right to moan about the keyboard. Some of us just don't need it, and it increases the thickness by around 50% (and decreases the style by 90%).
In automotive terms, it's a bit like buying a car with a steering wheel and a rudder. confused
Anyway, the fact that it has a flash is good, and the keyboard does seem to be one of the best that HTC have produced. I might get one as a backup device...
Decreases style by 90%?
And how do you measure style?
Considering some of the things you've called stylish, I shall disregard this comment

lol
I'm obviously just pointing out that it looses a lot of its style through its thickness.

size of diamond?

from the official specs:
102 mm (L) X 51 mm (W) X 11.35 mm (T)
which seems impossible.
only 10 cm high, 5 cm,s wide?
could someone confirm this? it would help in finding carkit holders and cases
It's like holding a Blackberry Pearl

Yes, these are the real dimensions
Why does this seem "impossible"?
When I got my Diamond yesterday, I was impressed how small this unit is, especially copared to my big fat Hermes. I really like those slim dimensions of my new gadget
i would guess from the pictures that it would be a lot bigger.
i have the qtek 8300 (tornado) which is
Lengte : 107,5 mm
Breedte : 46,2 mm
Diepte : 17,5 mm
so the diamond is not only about the same size it is also a lot thinner.
It really is as small as they say. Smaller than an iPhone. MUCH Smaller. I LOVE IT!!
Yep, the size is one of the big attractors imho - it's smaller than 90% of the phones out there.. nokia/lg/sony ericsson, etc included - and yet it has so much functionality!
another unbeatable feature
i have a friendly argument with an iphone lover. he asked me what the diamond can do that the iphone (with 3G and gps) can't do. i said to him: this! and let my diamond slip in my t-shirt pocket....he got the message.
shortly, we have the first pda that fits in our breast pocket. same thing like the first motorola V3.......
You also could have tapped on the touchscreen with a fingernail (if you happen to have long fingernails), or opened any one of hundreds of applications available for WM devices NOT available on iPhones...

titan or p4000 - is it worth going to the diamond

looking for any input on if you think it is worth it to go from the telus p4000 (titan) to the diamond that will be launching with telus soon. i think the specs for the diamond coming to telus are a bit different (gsm vs cdma) than what i have seen aroud the internet, so i was hoping for some feedback.
still so MSD slot, but overwhelmingly YES. 23MB free -> 200MB free means YES. Wait for a pro if you want the keyboard, but YES. The CDMA version even gets a 50% (900->1340mah) bigger battery, albeit for a (10.7->13.9mm) thickness increase. Its 2mm taller and 3mm thicker than GSM.
Yea I am thinking of going to the Diamond (my P4000 is dying) but should I wait for the Touch Pro (Raphael)? I like the keyboard, but how good is the onscreen keyboard on the diamond? I see that it is way more slim without the keyboard... Is not having the clickwheel annoying? other than the keyboard, is there going to be any other differences between the Diamond and the Raphael? ( I am on Telus here in Canada). Help please!

X1 or X2?

So im in the market for a new pda, after selling my Touch HD (now that it was broken or anything, but I just want something else). And my question is either wait for the x2 , which could take months, taking in consideration SE marketing strategies, or buy an X1?
I read they are both similar in hardware specs and I count on the brave fellas at xda to be able to port all apps / panels / etc.
I read that the x2 will be selling at around 2000 local currency (rougly 550 euros) whereas the x1 is selling at around 1400 local (aprox 330 euros).
I was also thinking to wait for the new touch hd2 (aka leo) but i've noticed im a keen writer and the hardware keyboard tends to be a must. I switched to the touch HD from a touch pro 1 and even though the screen was superb, the lack of the hardware keyboard made me "cry".
What do you people say?
The X1 costs too much for 1 year old tech, and having mostly the same internals as the X1, i feel the X2 will not be worth 550 euros.
Besides, the X1 keyboard may suffice for some, but for a keen writer, i think it will dissapoint. OTOH, style wise the X1 has few peers, and even its successor is hard pressed to match it there.
Go for the touch pro2. Combines screen of the HD (3.6" vs 3.8") with a best in class keyboard.
Problem is I cannot afford a tp2 (its roughly the same price as i expect x2 to be, but waiting for x2 might give another month or two, to save some more). The xperia x1 looks wild tbh and its one of the pluses in making my decision.
Try the X1 keyboard. If it works for your needs, you can consider it. With imminent release of the X2, you can prolly get it at a good price. (which is what i myself did)
Having said that, users do report that the X1 kb becomes unresponsive or performs double entries after a few months of use, requiring a trip to the sevice center for days, if not weeks.
X1 kb also does not come with ctrl-key, so no ctrl-x, ctrl-v etc. Also has no arrow keys, altho the dpad works well enough. The X2 fixes these problems and *looks* like a very nice kb to type on. It also adds accelerometer.
If youre willing to wait for the X2, compare the X2 kb with the TP2 kb before you make your purchase. After all, TP2 has xda support ;-) X2 is not made by HTC.
From your options I'd take X2.
Im curious if the waiting tmie for x2 will the same as x1...announced in feb. released in nov. available in january, one year later.
x1 got fm radio
x2 got accell meter and comes with a newer panel system
personal I would get hero or hold out for x3 with andriod mainly because of the cap screen rather then resistive
if there was a wm device with that then I would get that

It's also possible X2 will have the radio in the next FW.
get a x2, why buy a x1 now when the x2 is coming out in 2 months
According to my information it will be out next month. Check out my thread just then. There is also a statement about the price.
I've come to the conclusion that rather waiting for the x2 and paying 600 euros for old tech, i can either wait for the htc leo (hd2) same price/better hardware or buy an x1 which is two times cheaper and has specs as x2.
I cannot afford a tp2 and neither do I like it's looks (holding it just feels bulky, and the tilting screen doesnt give me a good impresion of long-lasting)
