xp wont recognize tilt unless its connected for ~15mins then disconnects after a few. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

This is really weird. I plug my tilt into my computer (tried every USB port on the machine) and it does nothing. The tilt doesnt light up, the computer doesnt notice that anythings been plugged in. Then about 15 minutes later you get the 'bipbipbip' sound that somethings been plugged in and activesync opens and it tries to connect but can not, then after a few minutes of trying I get an error about nothing being connected and you hear disconnect sound xp makes when you remove something form the usb port. Tired reseting both the phone and pc with no change in behavior.
Any ideas?
I've tried the USB-PC switch which did not work.

it seems you're having the same problem I do ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397840 )
USB to PC isn't working here too
I don't know if it's related, but I'm using L26 ROM. Are you using the original ROM?

yes original rom. I got it to sync over BT. Still not making me happy though.

Have you tried /Connections/USB to PC: disable advanced network functionality ?

Yes I have tried that with no difference.
But oddly enough its working now after I plugged the usb into the combo adapter I just got... now it works without it. Maybe it re-aligned a pin or something?

hello
the problem keeps happening to me
don't you remember changing any other setting in the mean time?
do you use wisbar?

I think theres a batch of dodgy kaiser/tilts going round. My USB recently suffered many of the problems listed here and all over the forum. Won't connect to activesync, charges but nothing else, stuck in serial at bootloader. Tried on many pc's with many different cables, advanced USB functionality on/off, original SPL, the list goes on and on. I noticed one thing tho, the USB connector on my broken kaiser (O2 XDA stellar btw) looked different to my mates stellar. Mine had 5 holes on the front of it that lined up with the pins on the top. The one they sent me after i returned it doesn't have these holes and looks like my mates one. Ill try and get a pic of the difference.
Does yours have holes or no holes?
1st pic - with holes
2nd pic - no holes

no holes
but it's weird because it used to work
it stopped from nothing

I guess the holes aren't it then. Mine just stopped too, nothing changed, just didn't work one day. Does yours get recognised by windows at all? Mine kept saying usb device not recognised. This was after it was plugged in for about 15 mins or so. Incidentally, my bluetooth also stopped working at the same time.

mine doesn't even says it's a not recognized device
it just doesn't really recognize anything
I mean, it's the same as if I didn't plug anything in the USB... it shows no message, do nothing

Problems with USB/Screen - Help!

On Tuesday I managed to drop my Kaiser in some water. As quick as I could I fished it out, removed the battery etc and put out to dry.
When it finally got to start again I noticed there was no USB - I tried re-flashing using the SD Card which eventually seemed to work, however I still have no USB. The phone charges fine via the usb connector but there's something up with the data lines - No PCs see anything connected to it and even the bootloader just shows serial - no USB.
This wasn't too bad as I can synchronise with my PC via Bluetooth which works fine, as does WiFi, GPS and normal phon operation.
Everything seemed ok until yesterday when the touch screen stopped responding. The phone itself works fine but I can only interact with the hard keys/keyboard.
Anyone have any ideas apart from just see if it magically starts working again? I'm not sure if the flash could be an issue as I had problems trying to flash - kept on getting failures flashing from the SD Card. I'm currently on 3.56, radio 1.65.28.25, rom of 3.57.502.2 (21159 WM6.5)
It would be nice to have the USB but that's not as important as the touchscreen. I'm learning to get by without either...
Help!!! I have tried searching but not come up with anything that works
Dude you dropped your phone in water, it's going to break.
What rom did you flash ? That looks like an AT$T rom with and AT&T Spl, but I see you are on Orange. And where did you come up with WM 6.5 in all this. Please tell us what rom and where did you get it, did you or do have Hard Spl on your phone and if your phone is stock or cooked ?
But...
I would understand it not working at all, but the way that everything seemed to work apart from the usb connection seems weird to me, but then I am not an electronics/hardware engineer, just a software engineer! I've seen elsewhere on the site that a screen that wasn't responding to touch seemed to sort itself days later so there's still hope....
OK... additional information if it helps... the phone itself is a Vodafone v1615 (Kaiser) which I've used since I've got it with an Orange 3G SIM (kindly provided by work). The phone had Hard-SPL 3.56, radio 1.65.28.25 as recommended for Anryl's 61129 WM 6.5 Rom. Everything worked fine before the water incident - I've been (ROM) flashing since I got the phone been through iterations of Dutty's ROMs, HyperDragon's to this one.
Like Chumley said, " you dropped it in water " so at this point, do a hard reset , keep your fingers crossed and que sera, sera.
oh lets go for a swim..

I just started another thread and then saw this one...
So I accident dropped my Touch into some water the other day.... Everything works except the screen... It works in somespots it seems but others Not.
Anything I can do to fix it or is it pooched for good. I guess it sounds like just try a hard reset and pray for the best.
Screen fixed!
Just to give an update, after a few days of learning how to use all the applications without a touch screen (for the times I really needed to, I used MyMobiler), yesterday a guy at work said that he had seen a suggestion to put the phone in a bag of rice! Thinking I had nothing to lose, last night (over a week since the kaiser got submerged) I put the phone in a sealed bag of rice for a couple of hours.
After flashing a couple of ROMs, I reset without the storage card in and clicked on the screen to calibrate the screen - and it worked!! I had put a blank file called welcome.not in the root of the storage card which normally bypassed the calibration - a very useful tip if you don't have a touch screen.
So now, I have a kaiser with a functioning touchscreen after being totally submerged in water a week back. The only issue I seem to still have is that I can't connect to a pc using the usb cable, although I can charge using it. HardSPL doesn't show USB when invoked The other thing is that sometimes the storage card isn't recognised, although it usually is when the kaiser is plugged into the usb to charge or a usb converter in connected. Slightly wierd that one.

BIG Problem with Xperia

hello
I have got a problem with my xperia, the top bar shows that my stereo headset is connected but is not...therefore, i cant hear anyone who is trying to call me or i call anyone.. i have been in a vodafone store and they could not find a solution, i also have done hard reset and is still the same... now im about to flash new rom. would that be a solution or any of you got different?
please help me, thanks in advance
try connecting headset again but give it a wiggle about, not too much also try pulling it out and puting it back in quickly several times in a row. be carefull.
i tried that already, not working
after a hard reset i can only assume it's a hardware fault, so i would go get it fixed because if you flash a new rom that will invalidate your waranty.
do that in the FMradio application
thank you guys, i also think that i should return it for vodafone service..
i tried in fmradio and still no working
sorry to hear that. good luck with that
last time that annoying thing happened to me i had to go to the htc HD fm radio app and plug and unplug the offical 3.5 connector to make it work( try plugging->listen to radio->set output to speakers-> then unplug)
a bunch of questions:
-what rom are you using
-did you try different 3.5 connectors
-is the earphone that caused the problem low quality?
the last time this happened to me i used the stylus and just waggled about for ages and ages and eventually the sensor registered that the headphones weren't plugged in.
do a search as plenty of people have had the exact same problem ...
good luck !
yes - just waggle the stylus around in it until it goes - worked for me
thank you..the thing with stylus works, hopefully but its still anoying to do that every time i put my headset
i have got an original vodafone uk rom
yes, i have tried many different headsets
the quality is fine
I have the exact same problem on my 4 month old X1, and now i dont rly know how hard i should wiggle with the stylus...

try waggling and then try inserting the headphones a few times and taking them out too
I've had the same prob for a week now.
After reading up on other HTC phones with the same issue I've found that what went wrong was a little hardware switch inside the jack failed to reset to its off position when the headphones where removed.
To locate the switch:
Turn the phone onto back so that the screen is facing upwards. The switch is at the 4-5 o'clock position if you look directly at the headphone jack, at around 1cm in.

I inserted a small pin which was bent a little at the end to relative position I have described and after I felt it snag just gave it a small wiggle. When doing this I noticed the headphone icon would disappear for a second and return.
This is how I knew I was in the correct position. Then I gave it a good twist.
(I think anti clockwise, but you will know from which direction worked when you wiggled)
The headphone icon disappeared for good and now I'm back to normal phone use!
(Do this at your own risk! But its more precise than sticking the stylus in blind)

DO NOT RETURN IT. This happened to me once, and ONLY once after using the phone for like 6 months. I soft reset and nothing happened.
There is something wrong with the way the device toggled the connection. Just replug and unplug and press play and pause on your video/music player. It should purge sooner or later.
You can also hard reset your device you will find that the problem will most likely purge.
@Charcobeans: Thanks, it worked within 5 seconds Thats just the instructions I searched for. Waggling around did not work, but more precise it was easy. Thanks!

USB device not recognized

All of a sudden I started getting this error when plugging into my PC.
I booted into the bootloader (tricolor screen) and still didn't work. It charges but doesn't connect properly.
I have searched around and read a few things (disable advanced networking, take out battery for 30 mins) Nothing seems to work.
Seems like it's a device problem... any suggestions because I'm kind of screwed here.

Hit up htcwiki.com there is a solution there, I had the same problem and it sorted itself out by buying a docking station station. I also use a three adapter (3.5mm head, sync cable and headset)which also works.
If you have the same issue as me chances are that your pda does not charge when connected either.
Hope this helps
No, as stated, mine charges when plugged in... I have a cradle, but it hooks up with the same usb cable so I can't see how that would make it better... it's just essentially an extension isn't it?
Could be a glitch in the phones software, a cable going bad, a plug going bad or a windows problem.
I've gone through a few cables and a dock, something always gets bent or something and it won't sync, I just grab another cable and it works. It's a shame the dock is bad now, it will only charge.

+1 All of a sudden a few weeks ago, my phone stopped syncing, panic, because I flash a lot . Tried everything, the list of things to try over at htcwiki was edited by me, and nothing worked, until I changed the cable. Voila ! been working ever since.
No good... not working even on another PC with another cable... and it worked before on that setup.
Um you only have troubleshot half of it. Did you say you reset the phone? LOL oh yeah my phone never worked on the original cable. Just because something was cool for one minute doesnt' mean it won't **** up the next.
Hard reset the phone. If that doesnt' work, than you are one step closer to a broken phone.
Have fun lol.

Found my problem in the last post (second to last post now )
My 2nd pin (closest to the middle) was laying flat and didn't have the curve the others had.. so it wasn't making contact. I used a caligraphy pen to get under it and pop it back up and now it works... I'm sure I'll have to keep an eye on it but for now it's working.
Hope this helps others that are reading everyone saying "it's the cable" and that isn't your problem

Which OS on your comp. are you using Denco? I've been using vista with no problems until now and it's more than funny how this syncing issue has just been popping up all over (most likely from vista updates). First instinct with vista is updates and firewall; killed and accepted every option, still with no dice. I seriously doubt it's the cables since they worked just fine for the last several hundred syncs and now sync problems abound...any help would be appreciated brother

Yep... that pin is half of the data (1st pin is ground, last is power and two in the middle are data)... obviously ground and power are working as it charged, but if one of the data lines isn't making contact then the PC is going to be confused because it knows something is there just not getting enough info.
I tried everything, straightened my pins, shut off firewalls and security, I use Windows Xp running with Bootcamp on an iMac. I have never installed service pack 3, because I read that , that was a problem with syncing. Shut off advanced network functionality, everything I could think of.
I had sync'd a thousand times with that cable, and flashed at least one hundred roms. Then one day it just stopped syncing. After pulling my hair out for two days, trying everything, I pulled a new cable out of the overflowing cable draw, fixed, haven't had a problem since. Go figure !

HUh, It seems you might be right about a simple cable replacement. My previous cable synced me up for several hundred syncs and just crapped out one day; dug up one of my older cables and it synced just fine and now it just took a dive for charging but not syncing. Guess I'll have to hit Best Buy for a new one. Like you said; go figure. Although I noticed some new gray hairs sprouting from searching and tweaking for fix

Galaxy Tab Back to Froyo STOCK from GB Stock

I think I've Bricked to completion now!
I have been using Overcome ROM and had issues with battery performance and other items. So I decided just to go to stock GB. Well I did and I thought to myself, why not get really good battery use and go back to Froyo. So I downloaded from samfirmware.com the JM2 ROM. Well, I did just that, using Odin 1.7 and it showed "PASS" in green. Normal pit file and reset partition checked.
Will not turn on at all and won't even go into "Download".
Besides the obvious "BRICK OF THE YEAR AWARD" replies, does anyone have any help they can lend?
I'm not the one with the answers, but I casually saw these two posts hours ago:

Thanks for the help, with the link you provided. I called the guy that I got my simple mobile phones from(and my tablet sim from, too) and he said he could fix it. So I left work immediately. Well after about 10 minutes, he said, "Here you go, the LCD screen is fried"
So I'm really bummed, but I'm also hopeful cause I can get a new LCD installed from ubreakifix.com. They are the same people that I got the new 3.5mm jack and repaired the Tablet, just about 30 days ago. So even though I'm bummed, cause I just got it fixed, I'm very hopeful that I can get it fixed, I just have to come up with some money for the part.
Can you try plugging it in the Computer and wait for while and see if anything shows up?
When i soft bricked my tab after a failed odin attempt it wouldn't turn on or nothing. I left it plugged into the computer, started to youtube a bit and after sometime pasted a phone and pc screen popped up.
Try it because if the lcd screen fried i would think the LED buttons would atleast light up if it was on.

Looks like you're not very lucky with your tab.
Then again you're lucky you have this kind of service (ubreakifix) in the States, coz we're stuck with the overly expensive regular services from companies like Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and so on, and they not only fix nothing but also charge you for that. I wish there were alternative services like this here too.
Hey thanks you all! I'll attempt plugging the unit into the laptop tonight and pray something happens.
I've actually connected the unit to Odin and Odin recognizes the unit, by show the COM:0, but I'll try the laptop at home. This all failed at the office PC.
Yah try that first because if loading a new rom doesn't do anything then yah something else is wrong.
So atleast then you know its hardware not software. If odin recognized the phone then there is hope. There are times the tabs go into what's we call a coma state and it usually clears up by loading a new rom. So atleast odin sees it.
It took like 20min for my tab to turn on with that phone to pc screen. If nothing comes on but odin sees it...load the overcome gbsafe_v5 rom and if you get green light then wait for it to reboot

Which test points to short to flash locked device?

On the board I see six test points. The question is if any of these can be shorted to be able to get the device in a mode where it can be flashed despite being OEM locked.
OK, so the test points are below the fingerprint flex cable connector:

Here’s roughly how I proceeded:
Made sure that I’m grounded by touching a grounded metal piece in my apartment.
Removed the SIM tray.
Opened the device according to the instructions by Wit Rigs (youtu.be/1VIdpuXSFmI). Separating the top with the screen was quite hard as it is glued.
Popped out the battery flex cable connector, then the fingerprint flex cable connector.
On my laptop (Windows 7 X64) started MiFlash 2016.08.30.0, downloaded from en.miui.com/thread-345974-1-1.html.
Inserted the USB-C cable that came with the phone into the phone. (not yet into the laptop!)
Using a bent and cut staple, I connected the test points, then inserted the USB-C cable into my laptop.
Windows reported that a new device is connected.
Removed the staple, clicked refresh in MiFlash: A device showed up.
Flashed the latest official stock Android One ROM V9.6.10.0, downloaded from en.miui.com/download-353.html:
Initially I got a message that MiFlash cannot receive a “Hello” packet. It turned out that I was too slow. After connecting the device, one only has limited the time to start the flashing. I read elsewhere that it’s 15 seconds.
Success, my A2 boots up again! Now I’m only waiting for thermal paste to arrive in the mail, I will apply that, then close the phone again.

Can you upload the photo else where and provide a link maybe?

I think this is the third one I have seen now. I'm sure someone will be able to help you but with the phone being as new as it is you may have to wait or figure it out for yourself. I have the phone but have not tried root yet because it's too early in the phones life to be messing around with it. Let the community grow first.
I do hope you made to get it solved though and if so you could document it so we can all learn from it in the future

Coming from Q&A platforms such as StackOverflow, I was assuming it’s better to use separate threads: The other ones are about Magisk on the A2, about clean installing the A2 ROM, and about using a deep flash cable on the A2. Finally being able to upload pictures, I am now fleshing out my earlier posts with details.
Anyhow, I hope that the information can be of help for others!

I bought a Mi A2 and tried to put android pie on it, but I failed successfully. I'm gonna try this endpoint method, cause I cant flash images with fastboot.
Unfortunately I can only try this on Monday, cause I don't have the tools, but a friend in college has. I wanna know a few stuff for the grand day:
You told that the device is glued. Is it really hard to open it? and do i need to glue it back?
In the endpoint method, I need to manage to connect the two points with a metal tool, right? And i'll do the process with the battery disconnected, correct?
You wouldn't believe it, but this is my first android and I had it working for less than an hour. I have always being an apple user, but my devices were always jailbroken. I thought that with android things would go easy, but I ****ed them up hahah
As I saw you posted somewhere else, I always like to push my devices to the limit and thats why I am a computer science student...
thanks a lot anyway, and wish me luck on Monday!! Hope I can do it...

I used an X-ACTO knives (careful!), and yes it was somewhat hard to open.

The A2 is glued with double sided tape going along all the edges. I removed that tape, then applied pieces of double sided tape (red TESA) in select locations. Applying double sided tape along all the edges should be practically impossible to do manually. Notes:
The original tape provides a certain level of water protection. So I’m not sure that it was a good idea to remove it. Between the pieces of tape that I applied there now are gaps, which however are not visible from the outside.
The device can be put together without tape at all, and the screen keeps attached to the body. What happens without tape in situations of stress, I don’t know.
So far everything has been working out fine for me, and my A2 already survived a couple of crashes (don’t use the ugly case).
In the endpoint method, I need to manage to connect the two points with a metal tool, right?

Yes. Note that after shorting the contacts, you have limited time to start the flashing. I think it was 40 seconds.
And i'll do the process with the battery disconnected, correct?

Yes that’s the recommended method. It also allows you to quickly reset the device, i.e. by unplugging the USB cable.

Same for me! Along the way I learned more than I wanted to. It’s interesting to see the device opened with all its components, removes a bit of the magic.
Anyhow, good luck!
