Hey guys - Off-topic

Hey guys I i just bought an HTC 8925, and i stumbled across the forum, seems like a huge community. My phone should come in on tuesday, im upgrading from an iphone.. Just wanted to say hi.

Welcome! Get ready for tons of info, apps, and really good tweaks to put your phone over the edge!
Yeah!!! iPhone --> HTC, good move. What was the reason?

definately a good move! HTC is way better than the competition!

i broke my iphone, and instead of buying a new one i figured id go back to windows mobile.. ive had a few other smartphones but never as nice as the tilt.. there is really nothing to do to the iphone tweakwise other than themes.. plus the gps and 3mp camera really won me over

Smart Move...Welcome aboard! What part of Cleveland? I spent time in Akron years ago...

hola..and welcome

on the hunt for a symbian based site similar to xda-developers

Hello!
firstly, thanks to everyone for such a fantastic resource. I always enjoy reading about the latest bits of user made software and trying out delicious freshly baked roms...
I have been a winmo user for about 5 years now (many MANY phones ) but, sadly, i have just purchased a nokia N95 8Gb (i basically couldn't refuse the offer) but one thing that really annoys me about it (and i havent got it yet! it arrives tomorrow) is the lack of intelligent, and credible sources of user discussion and content generation (such as this fantastic site). I really will miss it!
Does anyone know of a good symbian forum/irc/site in a similar vain to xda-dev? I have visited www.allaboutsymbian.com and wasnt impressed with the manner or technical level of its users... maby i just didnt dig deep enough.
Anyway, thanks again!
wish me luck on the s60 side... ill have a tytnII if it all goes tits up
Ant
I spit in the face of Symbian!Ptui!! Although, you could go over to mobiholics.com, I know youll be back soon because we all know youre going over there to sell the phone.
i got a p1i, and my super device of all time, the athena has since been neglected... maybe that will change with the release of the real athena project rom..
so i too am looking for symbian-developers.com

Die hard Motorola fan just converted...

Hey guys,
Im Jack... mod over at modmymoto.com . Just sold my Motorola MPx300's, traded my A1200 Ming smartphone and trashed a Crapberry for an HTC S620.
I'm much happier now.
Just wanted to introduce myself.
Welcome aboard man.
No way!? Jack, you really got rid of all your Motorolas!? Treason!!!!! haha
Welcome, welcome my friend. I used to have a Moto V300, the got a SE P910i, then Nokia N80, then a BB Curve, then the HTC Herald, and my current device HTC Kaiser. I came a long way, lol, probably not as long as others. My next device will be the Nokia N96. As you can see, I like variety, but staying clear of that so called apple phone, lol.
twould seem that the herald forum is a springboard for alot of upper members and ideas
HTC herald............innovating since god knows when.
But anyway..... congrats on the switch. I find it exorbitant to trade all that for just one excalibur.
about 2 years ago i did what you did now.
i was a Nokia man!
@ doctor... do I know you? Fr0m M3?
@fzzyrn... It wasnt just for an Excalibur... I got lots of beer, 2 tanks of gas 2 Excaliburs and some other stuff.....
Haha. I don't think you know me. But I'm from M3 yes. I found this place when I got my Wing.
I'm The Omega Protocol at M3. I ported the Black Remedy Skin to 176 and then Sold the Dragon V3r. T_T I kinda wish I hadn't. lol But I am very happy with my Wing which now runs Touch-IT [Touched by Vista].
Welcome. I too gave up my MPx300, Sony Ericsson and Blackberry devices for HTC. You're gonna love it here.
I loved my MPx300, a bit bulky but it was truly awesome for a device of it's time.

Yeah...It was definitely ahead of its time. It was the memory issue that killed me. I had 2 of them.
@ Doctor...good to see you here!
Likewise.
So, how is the S620? I've always wondered.
Impressive.. sturdy, stable and very responsive. I especially like the keypad... each button is well defined.
I <3 my Wing. [Thanks papa!!!!]
Have you modded it at all yet? Kavana's Rom maybe? lol Or are you still stock...which is like a sin. haha
Welcome to the fold. My first "smart" phone was the Moto E680i, loved that phone. Super stable linux OS, the best Chinese sip I've ever seen, nice form factor, lots of mods etc. Every time I see someone stressing about flashing a WM phone I chuckle and think of the days when I had to telnet into the phone for even the slightest of tweaks. I gave it away when I got my hermes and my friend is still using it...over three years of hard use and it's still going, that thing is a tank. Anyway welcome to the forums and say goodbye to all your evenings and weekends for the next 6 months.....

Got myself an iphone :<

Hello, i am a WM user since my qtek s200, and that is a way back, i love WM phones, i had over 6 WM devices and now i had a contract renewal and i got myself an iphone 3gs. I am a iphone hater -or maybe was-, and i do have the device for 4 days now. To my suprise the iphone is really good, really fast, and now that has turn by turn navigation its really usable. Fluent graphics, really powerful applications, and really really good support.
I thought i would never say this, but i am selling both my HD's, and its gonna take me a while to get back to WM devices.
Flame as you guys want, i just wanted to give my 2 cents on the thing thats happening.
I went the other way. Had enough of the low-res toy that is the Iphone, with Apple constantly blocking users from doing what they want.
My condolences
Well - as always it depends on what you want from your device... If you are satisfied with the abilities apple lets you use - go for the iphone. If you want a device you can customize in every way you want - go for a WM-device. And I have to agree with arfster: The resolution on the iphone is a disgrace! I'm definitely not willing to go to anything below VGA after having a WVGA device!
But I'm happy as long as your happy with the iphone!

Nice one!
I used to own an iPod touch (Iphone without the phone) and just found it to gimmicky. Sooner or later you will get bored of useless apps & games and come running back
Anyway have fun with your iPhone! I certainly would like to have one for 12 months +!
Ben.

Congratuations.
I've seen enough of what it can do to know that you're making the right move. Once jailbroken, I've seen how customizable it is, perhaps even more customizable than winmo phone. Everytime I see her, the phone looks different. She was having a HTC Hero look just the other day, and before that it looked like a Palm Pre. I've seen my cousin's iPhone and played with it, and it is truly amazing and awesome. Fantastic application functionalities and choices. Fantastic speed and smoothness. Fantastic for internet on the go. Fantastic media device.
I'm half way there in my saving to buy a second hand 3GS.

What stuff from HTC Hero or Palm Pre did you actually see? Are you certain that it is customizable. Because all I can see is the same old home screen with an HTC Hero Wallpaper.
Yes you now have turn by turn navigation but just see what happens when you take a phone call. On my Diamond TomTom just continued working and I could chat away to my heart's content. The iPhone will terminate the satnav application to tale the call. The iPhone is very, very shiny but has some serious restrictions - not to mention having to jailbreak to get away from the control freakery that is Apple.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
theres my thoughts
kidding but in all seriousness, and im sure we remember the other conversations iphone is for ppl and winmo is for others
it depends on what ur needs are from the deivice
What is it about people that they feel the need to come on a Windows Mobile forum to start a new thread to announce that they just got a new iPhone ?
Can't they just ressurrect one of the other 1000 threads that were started everytime Apple passes gas. ?
I have five Macs currently, am typing this on a Mac, my first PDA was an Apple Newton. I have been an Apple fanboy for 30yrs. And am on my second iPhone.
I also love my Kaiser. Now when I got my new 3Gs last month, my first thought wasn't to rush right over to XDA to start a new thread to announce that I had gotten a new iPhone, why is that everyone elses first thought ?
Can we just add all the " I just got a new iPhone " threads to the AS team's list of duties ?

No, it's more than a mere wallpaper. It also includes customizing the icons, the keyboards, the phone pad, the home screen itself, etc.
Did some googling, and found this..
Of course, don't expect it to have the complete behaviour of HTC hero, just like you would not expect a winmo phone that has been customized to mimic iphone to behave like iPhone.
Cheers.

Howdy folks...

Just thought I'd introduce myself real quick like.
The names Kjell (say it like shell, but with a German accent) and currently living in Norway. I've lived most of my life in the US though. (Primarily in the south.)
I was a Nokia kind of guy, specifically the 9x series, like the 9000, 9110, e90 etc. (Owned each one at least once.) Then I switched to an old QTec (QTek?) phone a few years ago, and hated it. Went back to Nokia and just last year jumped onboard the horrible iPhone bandwagon. (It's a great phone, just, hate being tied down...)
I bought a used HTC Touch HD last week seeing how I've been eying the HD2 for a couple now. But I'm not sure how I'll like Windows on my phone again. So I'm taking it slow.
But needless to say, I'm quite happy with the HD1. It's got a great screen, it's pretty fast and I enjoy the many, many customization options.
My iPhone is being used as an MP3 player/gaming console for my little one.
I'm thinking about testing out some custom roms for the HD. Anyone got any suggestions? Maybe a rom with the possibility to change your local weather to a non HTC chosen location? (I tried doing this on my own via the XML file, but can't. I'm just not that leet lol.)
Anyways, I've said too much. Thanks for having me.

THUMBS UP
I love the people at XDA!
Thanks all for the welcome.
I've been looking at the HD roms, going to read up a little about the flashing technique first. Don't want to brick anything.
Welcome and enjoy XDA! Happy Flashing!
Well first off, Welcome to XDA.
As a starter I'd advise you to read the wiki's and stickies for your device.
If unsure about anything feel free post a query in the Q&A forum (generally for each device a Q&A thread has been created for queries) or to contact a moderator for assistance

Hi 👋

hello!
II's been a long journey , but I'm finally here! I've wanted to be here for quite a while, and I finally made the switch. I've got my first Android after owning a lot of phones, but all iPhones for the last 15 years. The first phone I owned was not an iPhone. It was a small phone that had snake and a space type game built in. I think it was a Nokia and it had an antennae on it. I had an awesome Samsung flip that played music unbelievably well. I had an HTC that came with a stylus. I had a sidekick and a rumour. Oh, but my first gadget was a palm pilot.
I'm here with a new zflip4. It's taking me some time getting used to it, but I'm learning. I love all the customization possible on an Android. I still don't know the difference between "themes" and "launchers" among other things, but I live that I can do so much more on an Android than an iPhone.
I posted question that I'm praying someone can answer. It involves an issue I'm having with settings-display- screensaver. I'm so confused!!
So, that's me, my phones, and why I'm here. I know I'm going to learn a lot here. Thank you for the chance to introduce myself and my zflip4 to all of you!
PS Help!!

Themes are different looks of the device, it changes the icons, color, more.
Launchers are customized versions of the stock launcher with more features added.
