Open question for ex touch dual users - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi guys,
This question is only for ex touch dual users.
1) Could you please tell me if you miss the physical keyboard? I know the virtual keyboard on the diamond can be set as "normal" numerical keyboard with xt9 but is it easy (and accurate) as the physical one to use??
2) I've read somewhere that the diamond was not vibrating when receiving an sms? Is it true??
Thank you for your feedback!

Answer to your first question, I did find the physical keyboard useful, only because it gave me the whole screen to look at, but using the keyboard itself the Diamond keyboard does a very good job. I have mine on Phone Keypad and i dont often make a mistake. I do admit that sometimes it can be frustrating, pushing the space bar or not pushing it when you should do, but I had the same using the Touch Dual hardware keyboard so the experience is on par.
Mmm, well mine seems ok when I get a text, altho i dont often set it to vibrate so will have a play today and see if i notice anything.
What i will say is that there is supposed to be a version of the Diamond coming out with a keypad. I dont mean the Touch Diamond Pro with the full qwerty keyboard i mean literally a Touch Dual keypad on the diamond. So far specs, information is all pretty hush hush so if you really miss the physical keypad and you think you will find it useful having one, maybe waiting would be the best option.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Tom

@ tom: Thank you for your answer.
I really like the physical keypad. It helps me writing text messages without having to "really" look at what I'm doing.
As you said, I think I'll wait some time hoping they will release a touch dual diamond...
Have a good day!

Anyone else could answer this question?? Would be nice to have more than one answer...

Sorry, me again! Ive had my phone on Vibrate since yesterday and not had any problems with it not vibrating when it should do.
Just thought I would let you know.

About the SMS - yes, it wasn't alerting (vibrate or sound) but there is a tweak - registry entry.
Works fine now

HTC Touch keyboard breaking autocorrect?

I'd like to use the HTC Touch keyboard on my Tilt for the times that I don't want to slide out the keyboard, but installing it seems to break the autocorrect feature when I am using the hardware keyboard. I see a few other people mentioning this in various threads, but I have yet to see any mention of a solution to this problem. I've tried all sorts of combinations of enabling and disabling autocorrect and various xt9 features, but the only way I can get autocorrect back is by uninstalling the HTC Touch keyboard.
By autocorrect, I'm referring to the ability to type in "il" and have it automatically change to "I'll"
Hi - did anybody find a solution to this? I've been searching high and low!
I'm in exactly the same boat - I love HTC keypad as it really helps me use the Kaiser one-handed, but I really miss the auto-correct on the hardware keyboard.
Is there a version of this SIP that doesn't break auto-correct?
I tried the HTC phonepad, but just couldn't get used to it after using the newer Keypad.
I would love to have a good T9 style SIP, but also have autocorrect on the hardware keyboard......anybody that can help?
Thanks!
I'd noticed that too, quite annoying as the touch keypad is so useful.

I too found the same issues yet I loved the T9 input using the touch pad. I removed the xT9 one and installed this one instead.
You still get T9 and it works fast too. The internal keyboard auto correct also works with it too.
Is also made by HTC but can't remember where I found it. May have been on here before or recently.
I've been earching for a solution to this as well for months now. The autocomplete that XT9 disables is part of wm6 which it calls "word completion." When XT9 is installed via htc keypad, word completion ceases to work along with the feature that auto-fills contacts as you start to type a new SMS.
Thanks for posting that pkonepad cab, but unfortunately.that' the sip that radatia mentioned above. The buttons on the new HTC touch phonepad are bigger and easier to use.
What we really need is someone here that knows some programming to somehow alter the touch phonepad so that xt9 can be toggled on and off (without a registry change and restart), or better yet somehow change it to use a T9 like the phonepad's instead of xt9...
I have exact same problem. I love the htc virtual keyboard because became useful. However once I installed it, the hardware keyboard word completion no longer work I need that too because I use it.
I have another question, do anyone know if I can make the default windows word completion to auto select the top most word suggested list so I can just enter space bar to select it. Now I always have to use down key to select the word 1st. Not efficient.
Just wanted to bump this topic. There have got to be others out there who share our frustration... and someone who can put an end to it!
I've given up on the HTC Keypad, much as I like it and it making the device usable one-handed.
Have moved onto the PocketCM Keyboard as my preferred SIP just so that I can still keep word completion when using the hardware keyboard.
Hope that someone posts here if a solution is eventually found......
oh man!
I'm the opposite.. how I wish the hardware keyboard is not auto correct enabled when I use it.
I've tried dis-abling the auto correct etc.. dun seem to work..
now using Resco keyboard..
it's the next best thing, but kinda defeats the purpose of getting the tytn II in the first place.
Yes the touch keyboard has many issues when used on kaiser. i can't get autocomplete to work with the hardware keyboard either unfortunately.
I do know that "multiword completion" in the xt9 settings or whatever is a bad thing and causes other problems, so i uncheck that. But, still can't figure out how to get autocomplete to work.
I spent a lot of time searching and installing/uninstalling these things to try and find a perfect mix, no luck though. It's still QUITE usable for me, but i would like auto complete for hardware keyboard, though, i dont think i'd use it as i type realy fast anyways with it.
It's quite hard to justify buying a keyboard when we are able to install a free one that *almost* does what we want! pcmkeyboard with iphone buttons and XL touch skin is good, but i am realy starting to like xt9.
:-( i have this problem now and love the keyboard...

Best one-handed keypad / keyboard?

Hi all,
First off, my first post here, so be gentle .
I'm looking for a keypad or keyboard to install on my Vario III so that I can type SMSes with one hand whilst on the London Underground. As good as the keyboard is, it requires two hands to be usable.
I've used the HTC Diamond keypad / keyboard pack that's on these boards, and another one after following a rabbit hole, and although they do as I want, they removed another functionality: Whilst typing on the real keyboard, I lost the word/ name suggestion box whilst typing! I find this box very useful, not least in the names section, and don't want it gone.
So, in brief, can you guys recommend a one-handed keypad for SMSing, which doesn't lose that word suggestion box functionality?
Many thanks guys!
Hi,
I tried thumbkey but it is a little buggy
Touchpal (especially the last Version, 3.0) is perfect for me...
Hi szdavid,
just had a little go on touchpal now using the trail version, and although the suggestion box was there, I'm more of an 'oldie' when it coems to texting i.e. dislike T9 or any predictive texting, and it took a couple of different areas to get one char up (choose the button, then the character).
I'll try the other one once I get up tomorrow. Thanks though, and any other suggestions out there?
If I were you, I would get the Touch Diamond Keypad.
It is just like it is on a regular phone. I will attach the CAB as well as the other Touch Diamond Keyboard.
The .CAB in this attachment is all 3 Touch Diamond Keyboards. 1 is Qwerty and 1 is the Keyboard and the other is the Keypad.

I've tried that one, and I loved it, except for the fact that I lost the suggestion box above the cursor, which is important to me (which is why I uninstalled it).
Is there something like that, except without the loss of that functionality, please?

did you hit the ABC<->T9 toggle button second in from the left on the bottom row, it seems to give me exactly what you want..
I running the qwerty keyboard for info !!!
tengo thumb gets my vote.
http://www.tengo.net/tengo_thumb.html
I might try that Tengo one, and Jerwick, I did press that button, but it still didn't give me back the suggestion box.. I'm not sure you know which one i mean...
I think it's the keypad /board's own predicter that's causing the problem and stopping the cursor suggesttion box...
any tips?
I do know what you are talking about. On some occasions, it doesn't work for me either. It has some flaws- but other than that, it's about as basic as you can get.
pie, I never got it to work unfortuneatly, and I guess I use the inline thingy mor than the one-handy thingy
guess that means that there isn't one with the same great functionality as that diamond one, then
ive actually started using the full keyboard one handed. slide it out and type with one hand, its hard to get used to.

You're good, I can barely type on the Tilt keyboard sitting on the table with cut fingernails. I just can't get used to the feel, travel, feedback..... something.
OH, ANd THis ANoys ME TOo if I type too fast.
Right now, I'm using the resco keyboard which has already been mentioned.
I was wondering if there was one similar to that with bigger buttons? It would make texting while doing other stuff much easier using both thumbs.
Sometimes hitting the right key with the resco board is difficult as well.
Coudl we get the Diamond keyboard .CAB on another server? Please, we cant access megaupload in this country.

its in my signature under Cabs, Keyboards
There is nothing better than the Touchpal once you learn to use it period.
-McMex
Touchpal is the best for me hands down...
It offers several input methods ranging from QWERTY to T9...
And you can skin it very easily.

It's been on my 4shared the entire time.
it seems like there are a lot of avodcates for the touchpal one, which I did like, but wasn't entirely happy with...
I might end up with it because it's the nest of the lot that I've been recommended, that and maybe the resco one
+1 TouchPal for me

Diamond keyboad-question, switching from Hermes..

Hello everyone,
I wanted advice before I get a O2 XDA Diamond. I've been quite happy with my Hermes the past 2 years, only missing GPS feature and I always wish it was thinner! From the size the HTC Raphael isn't much better I have the feeling, so I've been looking into the Diamond again.
Now, the hardware keyboard in many situations is one of the best features on my Hermes, the occasional chat, or the longer email..before I switch to the Diamond I wanted to know how good the software keyboard is.
I've been playing around with the SIP PCM-Keyboard on my Hermes and if that works on the Diamond, or the standard SIP keyboard on the Diamond is similar, then I'd make the switch.
So, how good is it? Things like adding contact addresses, phone numbers, writing the occasional chat and the longer email, the daily text messages..
thx for any advice and experience, pplz who had a Kaiser or Hermes
Got the same situation here! Switched already from a Hermes (Tytn 1) to a Diamond. In the beginning I really had to get used and sometimes wished I never switched phones simply cause im a sms addict and thus loved the hardware keyboard lol. However, nowadays I'm getting really fast in hitting the letters on the touch screen with the stylus. Not as fast as with the hardware keyboard, that's impossible... but I'm managing it lol. Also, if you type a sms or an e-mail and rotate the screen, like the Tytn did automatically when sliding out the keyboard... but you have to use 3rd party programs on the Diamond to manage that.. then I'm even able to type on the screen with my fingers. But, I don't have fingers as big like a Wiener! ;-)
Give "Touchpal" a try I find it better than the diamond default sip, unfortunately it is a commercial app. Once you get used to it it is very fast and finger friendly. PCM Keyboard was always my favourite until I got my fingers on this. It has a few idiosyncrasies but after a very short time I was as fast if not faster than I am on my laptop, but I'm really crap at typing!
Aside from all that I've just upgraded from my beloved Artemis (RIP in the hands now of my 9 year old son) and the Diamond rocks, WOW.

Does Touchpal have predictive sentences? Just upgraded from A Vario 3 to the lovely Diamond. Used to love the predictive sentences on the Vario. Doesn't seem to be as good on the Diamond. Same for contacts. Used to whittle down the options letter by letter but have to wait until the end of the first word now.

Question about T9 and the Xperia keyboard

For a week I am a lucky owner of the Xperia X1. And it is everything I thought it would be!
But I have a question about the T9 function.
The Touch Pro suggest words (and has a T9 function also?) when entering text with the keyboard, is that also possible with the Xperia?

To a certain extent, it can suggest up to 4 words (or possibly more if you edit the registry) and that's enabled via the Options menu for the keyboard SIP. Personally I feel the Xperia's implementation of the autocomplete and especially autocorrect isn't nearly as robust as the Touch Pro, but something's better than nothing.
You can still install the Touch Pro On-Screen keyboard and T9 if you don't like the X1 default T9.
But does that improve the autocorrect/autocomplete functionality for the hardware keyboard? I read somewhere that installing that will actually disable whatever autocorrect/autocomplete feature that's currently on the Xperia.

no it'll break the autocomplete function when using hardware keyboard.
the only thing i dont like about my X1 is the difficulty in SMS text messaging
is the on screen keyboard you guys are referring to the same as the on screen touch panel when you go to dial a phone number?
the same as 'traditional' phone keyboards?
if so, where can i download this function at?
many thanks
Ross
Yea, but why use a software touch keyboard when u got a nice hardware keyboard to work around with?
I find the hardware keyboard much more of us. And one of the reasons I (we?) brought the Xperia because of his hardware keyboard.
i do like the hard keyboard, but the thing i loved about my older SE phones was i could use the T9 predictive text, and text very fast and effortlessly using the predictive testing and the traditional keys, where as with this, sending a SMS is quite an effort!
so is there an on screen keypad the same as when you press the receiver button and see the keypad?

LOL... I spent ages trying to find the perfect soft keyboard for my device after losing the ability to use my favourite (PPCLink HiKeyboard) because of screen incompatibility. THEN it dawned on me! I actually have a hardware keyboard, I just forget it's there sometimes DOH!

Did anyone find this yet?
I saw something about being able to access a t9 phonepad when using the chinese keyboard but it wouldn't work on my x10 and I loathe the qwerty boards on this phone.

Dialer-looking text input

Hey,
I hope that someone can help me out.
Since the screen is "quite" small... the keyboard in windows mobile is definetly too small, and even fingerkeyb requires some concentration.
Are there any good looking, perfectly working, dialer looking input SIPs?
12 button input with 1 - abc, 2-def, 3-ghi etc. Like on oldschool cellphones (and samsung touch versions)... with T9 textbook.
I guess there are a couple out there, which one is THE best?
saw this thread, with no answer...

Search for the OEM XT9 keyboard. There's a phone keypad mode.
Thanks!
I tried it and it works ok! I like it, think I'm gonna use it instead of fingerkeyb, at least for sms-writing with one hand. There are some issues though, it's not perfect.
Wonder why no-one focuses on creating a better soft keyboard (eg sony ericsson!!!)
