MDA Compact IV Battery issue - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

got MDA Compact IV battery don't even last for whole day,
does any one know if its ROM issue,
using same feature as MDA Ameo, Ameo last me more then a day.
any one else having same issue.

Same issue here
If I dont make any calls at all, follow the various tweaks to turn wifi & network data connections (ie turn them on when needed and turn them off automatically 30s later). I manage to get a day and a half! If I start using it properly, I can use it all up in 8-10 hours!

It is only a 900mah battery, but given that the extended batery is only 1340mah it's not THAT much of a difference, maybe a day and a half to 2 days. My Trinity could run for 4-5 days without a charge on low usage.
Still, the phone is sooo nice

Has anyone tried the unofficial extended batteries that are 1800mah?

Yes it is such a nice phone!
My old MDA Compact3 used to last for 3-4 days with little usage and that had a 1200mA battery.
I think its the faster processor and the 3G that slurps up the juice. I read somewhere that if you turn off 3G and use 2G totally, the battery life is OK.
3G phones have always been power hungry. I remember the old 3 phones which would not last 12 hours!
There are a lot of clever people on this Forum, I'm hoping that someone will come up with a solution soon (Maybe slow the processor right down when its in standby)

Well, had the MDA Compact IV for a few days now and I am seriously thinking about sending it back, there seems to be so many quirks.
1) Battery life is a joke!
2) Touch-Flo overrides all other settings and isn't very customisable
eg clock doesn't display in title bar even though it is set to.
3) Email can't be deleted from the Touch-flo interface you have to go to the Inbox to do it
4) Screen switches off as soon as the phone connects, which is a real pain when you have to 'click 2 for tech support'
5) Why isn't there a button to access the camera quickly?
6) The power button on th III was in a much more logical place, on this is is in the 'phone' position, which is fine if you never need it but on this it is needed all the time!
7) Weather doesn't update automatically
I have now given up with Touch-Flo and am using it as I did the III, with SPB Shell and PhoneWeaver, phoned T-mobile and they said it was problem with my handset they are replacing it tomorrow! New game is great though and I really like the phone, most things I can manage with except the battery and the screen switching off.

1. True
2. What? It is customisable to an extent, look at programs like Diamond TF3D Config and the themes available. The clock displays in the title bar for me in all apps. If you want more customisation then use the today screen and turn off TF3D
3. Then turn off TF3D if you dont like it.
4. Use one of the tweaking apps to disable that
5. You can set it open by holidng the call button with one of the tweaking apps
6. It's in the same place it is on all Nokia phones, out of the way so you dont turn it on when you pull it out your pocket from its sides
7. Yes it does, you can change that setting in the TF3D settings, the bottom setting

Mine was "despatched" yesterday so should be at home today when i finish work ... will let you know what its like.
Above all, im looking forward to the flat back replacement, im fed up with the phone being on a desk and rocking when im taping away a text message

i have disable TF3d abd use as normal pda battery last longer like 1 and half day.
but its no point its same as normal pda then. might be get better battery or i have keep sapre battery.

My Battery has improved...
I too reported the battery was poor.... initially.
But it seems to have improved with every charge!
I have cut down all the comms and forced 2G. Gone down to the lowest screen brightness + 1 notch.
The battery went from 10 bars (full) down to 9 bars over 24 hours with minimal use.
I let the battery fully deplete, then gave it a 12 hour charge overnight. The MDA C4 was unplugged at 08:00 yesterday morning and today at 12:45 I still have 9 bars! I am quite please with it now.
I guess I'll have to force it to 2G and move onto 3G if I am surfing for extended periods of time.
Hope that helps.

i user my pda with laptop to surf internet @ work
i use to use Ameo after surfing from 9:00 till 16:00 i still got 30-40% left on my Ameo
with MDA C4 with out TF3D used it for 30. battery drop from 99 to 84%.
if i use TF3d battery drain like mad.

Having a few issues myself, stock T-mobile UK ROM, TF3D running. Reading through somebody mentions an issue with the version of Google maps that is pre-installed, basically doesn't shut down the GPS fully even after closing the program. I uninstalled it, and installed the latest version from Google, version 2.1.0.10. Not sure about anybody else, but my battery life has improved hugely today, with the same usage as yesterday. Used Opera, several emails, several calls, Google maps, and general fiddling and battery is still around 80% (took it off charge 11.00 last night). Don't know if its a solution for everybody, but has REALLY worked for me......

4&5) What one do you recomend?
6) But with Nokias you never use it, the phone wakes up when you press any button
7) Yes, but how often?

This is my 2nd day without recharging and still 40% left. I haven't made any calls but the phone was on and I used wifi a couple of times. Looked upon the album in tf3d a couple of times and some other things. So I think I cannot complain on battery capacity

MDA compact 4 Battery life
Hi
I left the phone for 4 days unused and the battery suvived,
but unfortunatly after changing the original rom and after inserting the sim card the phone now does not stand by more than one day
i tried the minimum use just phone on standby but still less than a day.
any idea about best rom on t-mobile for battery life. or at least the original rom to try
thanks

I just installed AZTOR's x2 ROM, maybe it will prolongue the battery life. The original ROM last just a day, max 1,5 days. I hope it will improve now...

High Battery Drain - I think I have got it

I think it is the phone in the Kaiser that drains the battery.
NOTE that this is NOT about using the built in funtions too much, please read the conditions of this test.
First of all, I am not a typical Kaiser user - the sim card I am using at the moment doesn't support 3G or any fancy functions - just domestic calls and sms!
I think it has been some weeks where I had this problem, but I am not really sure. But here is what I did to test, read it closely:
Kaiser is started from cold last evening, no apps started, nothing running. It has been charged to 100%, and before going to bed, I disable the only thing I have running - the phone! No bluetooth, wireless, nothing at all. I press the power button briefly to put the phone to sleep, right after pulling the charger plug.
All night, the phone is sitting in flight mode, without charger, and in the morning I wake it up and check the battery. 100% it says. Then I turn the phone on (3G is selected off, I have the modified version of comm manager where 3G is included). I check the battery again, 100%, and then mobile signal strength, there are 4 bars, plenty of signal. Then I briefly press the power button to turn off the display.
Time is 0800, phone is on, display off, and I leave it on the table in the same place where the mobile signal was 4 bars. I remove the battery cover, just to be able to monitor the battery temperature during this test. Room temperature is regulated to 23 deg C, and the phone is not exposed to sunlight.
This is what happened:
Phone on glass table, no bag, battery cover removed, 23 deg constant temp, no sunlight
0800: 100% Phone is turned on via Comm Manager, 3G deactivated
0815: 96% slightly warm battery, can just barely feel the battery is a little warmer around the middle, but it is definately warm from battery.
0930: 83% battery still warm
1007: 78% warm battery
1105: 68% still warm - checking the phone signal, still 4 bars
1312: Green light flashes like every other second, but I cannot turn the phone on. Not even sliding the keyboard open wakes it up. I remove the battery and then put it back in place, and turn on the phone.
1313: The phone has booted, battery is now 16%! That is why it did not want to wake up again ...
I connect the charger, checking SMS and phone list. No calls or messages.
So, from 0800 to 1313, just over 5 hours, the phone went from 100% to 16%, with NO USE AT ALL except the phone in standby. Compare that to being all night in the same state, EXCEPT with the phone off.
If it is not something with the phone itself, it MUST be something related pretty close to it.
Some users only have "normal" battery problems because they use the phone with too many functions. As this is obviously NOT the problem here, spare these comments (your phone is OK then). This s... is serious!
------------------------
I urge others who have battery frain problems on the Kaiser to do the same test. Most should be able to do this on - say - a saturday evening (the following day should be one where you don't need your phone too much, and where you don't expect people to call or text you too much).
BATTERY DRAIN TEST:
1. Make sure phone is charged to 100%
2. Reboot and don't start any apps
3. Check no apps running, kill any that started by themselves
4. Turn off everything in comm manager (flight mode, basically)
5. Power off the display, and leave overnight, CHARGER DISCONNECTED.
6. When you get up in the morning, turn it on (should still be in standby with display off)
7. Check battery level and note the time and the phone signal strenght
8. Turn on the phone in the comm manager, nothing else
9. Press the power button briefly to bring turn the screen off
10. Every hour or so, note turn the display on and note the battery level and confirm that the phone signal is still OK
Mine lasted just about 5 hours like this, how long does YOUR Kaiser last???

LGB,
from your description I do not see why you are pointing at the phone, of all things. Maybe you just installed an application which keeps your phone from getting some rest in standby.
During my tests as shown in the thread "HTC models with GPS? Excessive standby battery drain CONFIRMED - FAQ added" I used two different OS (WM6 and WM6.1). In both cases I did not install anything except for a GPS tool (tried HTC's GPSTool, Chartcross GPSTest and OziExplorer, to exclude potential application specific trouble) which was sufficient to reproduce the problem. I do not know whether you went that far, but I am afraid you have to follow the same procedure. Before doing so you can try to locate an unusual process running in the background, using TaskManager (one which can show you the processes as well). There may be an "Anti social application", as someone else has put it.
If you find out the exact circumstances, I will be happy to add this to the first page of the abovementioned sticky thread. To me this all seems too much related to each other. It is well possible that the HTC has several sensible spots concerning standby current consumption, and of course I would like to see the complete picture. Best result being one common reason... lets try to nail down this sucker.
BusterTyTN
More than often I go to university and leave Kaiser only with the phone function (GSM, no 3G), no apps running, except for HTC Home Plugin and Pocket Contacts. If nothing happens, like receiving/sending SMS or phone calls, after about 7 hours its at 92/94%. And my carrier doesn't have a good signal there.

ever thought it might be your radio version?
Just a thought guys, but isn't it better to also state some detailed information like :
- ROM version
- Radio version
- SN of battery (there could be a bad batch of batteries around)
- Name of provider
Here's my details, but I haven't got this problem (I can easily run 1 week with battery with quite a lot of Wifi use) :
- ROM : Dutty 6.1 WWE
- Radio : 1.64.06.04
- SN of battery : DCOX17BM003309
- Name of Provider Orange NL
Why don`t you just try a full backup, format yer phone and do the test again?
Doing such test with alot installed is no point.
For my part: My Kaiser is brand new and I am impressed by the batterylife. None of my kaiser-equipped friends have this problem eighter.
Start your phone from scrach. I`m sure the problem will dissappear.
If not it should be under warranty and you should get a replacement.
No phones gets drained by itself while in standby, and if it does its something wrong with it.

1 WEEK! hmmmm something smells fishy..............
I have been experiencing a lot more battery drain since using radio version: 1.64.08.21 from 1.27.12.11. But my previous radio version does not work for Sleuth's WM6.1 V3.0. Do you think having a bigger pool size can contribute to power drain also?

Install Batterystatus and tell us what mA power drain your getting.
Battery drain of this magnitude could be a short circuit, causing the heat. Get a replacement if under warranty.

I have my Tytn II for 2 months now, but I'm still waiting on my service provider switch, and as it is locked I can't use phone function yet.
BUT, even without phone and with normal daily usage (some gaming, some WiFi, calendar, etc.) I have to recharge every other day. Furthermore I'm experiencing massive battery drain even at standby mode (guess it runs out 20% overnight, doing absolutely nothing!). I always check my task manager and clear any running programs.. I run Batti, which is the only program that's always running I can think of..

This is how it USED to be for me ... I don't know when, but at a certain stage, that CHANGED. Now, I can get 5 hours only, like that. When I check TASK MANAGER, all I have running are these two apps:
SMS / MMS
Comm Manager
ROM 1.56.403.4 09/19/07
Radio version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Advanced configuration tool v 1.1 by Schap's:
OS: Microsoft Windows CE 5.2.1620 (Info says build 18125.0.4.2)
.NET Compact Framework: 2.0.7045.0
Glyph cache: 8192
File system cache: Auto
File system filter cache: 0
Phone: Everything is ticked, meaning Show video dialer, SIM contacts, Band page, PIN2 page, Time Zones page, TTY page, ENABLE DTMF support, EDGE Icon, HSDPA icon, Disable SMS sent notification
GPRS/3G disconnect and timer ticked, connection always on is NOT ticked, Disconnect GPRS/3G after 600 seconds (but I haven't used either for a long time now)
Com manager has button 10 as 3G so I can disconnect it
SYSTEM INFO says:
Windows Mobile 6.0 (WinCE 5.02)
Program memory 38% (38.07/101.4MB)
Storage memory 65% (87.65/135.5MB)
Memory card 89% (5.06/5.7GB)
I also have the tweaks2k2 net installed, could I have changed something by mistake?
But WHY is it that when the phone is off, I get normal battery life, with phone ON it goes down fast, even with no use?
I did a new test this morning, this is what I did:
Phone charged 100% in the evening. Flight mode all night with screen off. In the morning it was 99%, and this is what I did:
0648:99% GPS on (GPSTuner, very basic GPS program, just to keep it alive), lowest setting on the display. GPS came on pretty quick, and I kept poking the display now and then to keep it out of standby
0728:66% (GPS and display still on, behind shielded windoes so DOP only between 5 and 25, GPS working to try to hold position!)
0827:29%
0910:10% 3xbeep, battery warning
So, with the display on lowest setting but constantly on and GPS running also, I got 2:22 from 99% to 10%, no other items enabled (no phone, bluetooth, wireless etc)
...
my batt
i have had my tilt since late dec? its been dropped lots of times ( yah i know its bad) i have upgraded to the new att fw( just realy havent looked @ new roms)
i did flash a new splash screen i got a good umts signel where i live. if i charge my phone adn then go home and go to sleep with maybe a few apps running when i wake up @ night( i work nights) my phone normally is around 85 to 90% on the batt. my batt sn is 5fga279v007664
r=1.27.14.09
g= 22.45.8807h
d=1.62.00.00
idk about yall i do lots of txtin adn web access adn i normally go to sleep around 12ish pm then wake up around 7 or 8 pm and my phone normally will last 2ish days
Discovered today that even though comm manager said 3g off if I went into connections and opened up hsdpa it was on. Was wondering why my battery was draining so damn fast. Not quite at your speed but quickly.
If I was you I would grab abcpowermeter and also SKTOOLS and use them, they will show drain and the FULL list of procs running and which ones are chewing up the cpu.
hmm lemme try seeing if it lasts abit longer when its on gsm only..im going to have to wait till tue because i work in a call center and the gsm interference irritates the crap outta me and my customers.
ok this post seems to be nothing but n00bs posting which is not a bad thing! thank you for coming out and posting! The radio is a HUGE factor!! probably the biggest one of them all, the new Niki radios seem to be doing the best as far as battery goes these days! Also make sure if your going to be doing battery tests its after a HARD RESET! no apps installed period, I know batti is a big drain on the battery even though its a small app lol.... My kaiser will last about 35 hours with MY use now everyones use is different so there is no perfect judge of battery use, even the battery test apps have a % that it is off by and veryone uses there phone different, But if your only getting 5-6 hours something is wrong or you ARE a heavy user sorry to say! remember the radio is the key to battery use here folks and also the apps you have installed!
ALSO- HSDPA is a battery drain as is UTMS to is you can go EDGE only and you will be ahocked at how much longer it lasts

It is obviously because of a program or programs installed that drain the Batt.

i know umts/hsdpa do have an major effect on batt life....on my old 8125 it would last 3-4 days and but at that time i did not have the data plan i just had unlimeted txtin....and i would use the phone alot in in the morning and alot after school. i also did use wifi alot b4 and after school but none the less it still would last 3-4 days. when i got the tilt i was dissapointed with the life of my of the tilt and even now it still lasts about 2ish days with the oem batt.
Sorry but my TyTN II does not discharge like that at all.
This has definitely go something to do with rom version, service provider etc etc.
I charge my TyTN II to 100% at around 20h00. By 08h00 the next morning my phone is on 94% with nothing disabled except bluetooth, which I then switch on when I drive off.
There are some apps like Cyberon Voice command and Windows Mobile Voice Command which I have since removed, which do consume enormous amounts of power even on standby.
My TyTN II details:
ROM version: 1.56.421.1
ROM Date: 26th October 2007
Radio Version: 1.27.15.32
Protocol Version: 22.51.88.13H
Service Provider/Network: Vodacom South Africa
i use edge only, new niki radio, push activated, 60-70mins of voice a day, 50-60 txts a day and i can get to 2.5+ days with 4% left, screen brightness is the 3rd notch from left.

Significantly improve battery life

Hi all,
After 2 days of testing this tweak, I have booked really good results with my Diamond.
The phone has been on and not connected to charger or computer for over 48 hours now, and the battery has dropped only to 50%. That's right, two full days and nights of stand-by time, with an occasional call here and there, a couple of text messages, and reading some email.
Before this tweak I had to charge the Diamond already after 24 hours or less.
So if you have low battery life problems, give this a go:
Advanced config tools -> disable the setting "GPRS auto attach"
Read about this setting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395301&highlight=GPRS+auto+attach
Have fun and enjoy the longer battery life
But this has been discussed already and is only any good if you don't rely on GPRS a lot throughout the day surely? I mean I use Exchange and I'm sure it wouldn't work for me if I tweaked this setting.
Works great if you dont use the phone all that much but doesnt make much of a difference if you do make calls, send and receive sms texts..email send and receive etc etc.
Ive enabled that tweak and i still find the battery to be utterly rubbish for a phone of this power. Sure it helps conserve some of the battery but i can guarantee you that by 7pm tonight my phone will be dead...like it happened to me yesterday...went to work yesterday battery was 100%...made 3-4 calls...in total spent about 30 mins on the phone...browsed the internet for about 20 mins...sent and received 30 texts...watched a few youtube vids...checked my email a few times...not really heavy usage but by 7pm my phone was dead.
Not impressed with HTC and their monumental screw up with this battery..900mah is just not enough for this device if you want to use it properly that is. You would have thought they would have learned from Nokia when they first released their N95, that had a terrible battery on it as well...although with the n95 8gb the battery is much much better. Why they felt it only needed 900mah is quite beyond me...plus the battery gets hot which proves to me that the battery is not up to the job imo. Luckily the phone is good or else id have sent it back by now...guess ill have to wait for the extended battery to make an appearance. In fact i find the battery so rubbish that ive had to order a spare usb synch cable so i can charge my phone here at work.
Guys, if you want to substantially improve your battery life, go with a newer 1.37 ROM.
The older 1.35 ROM has serious battery life problems, there isn't much you can do about it without to cripple full functionality.
Where can i get the 1.37 ROM?
It isn't available in the e-club on htc.com
It's linked in the Diamond ROM Development forum.
You need to install the developer version of the HardSPL first, then install one of the 1.37 roms - I'm using the official HTC HK-English one with the 1.37.707.1 rom in it.
Works a treat for me - though I haven't had it on long enough to test battery time extensively yet.
I'm on the 1.37 rom, was on the 1.34 with my first unit and the battery is much better. I'm also noticing that the battery improves with 'age'. Plus I've got the dock on the way when it's released so that will help things no end I'm sure. When I'm in the car I shove a normal mini usb cable in from my Sony CD player and of course the upside of that is it will also play my music too instead of using USB drives. At work I use a spare USB and plug it in.
The battery is poo but having worked it in to a routine like that I hardly notice it now.
Unhooked my Diamond last night 22.00-ish from the usb cable and while I am typing now the battery is still more than 80% charged.
Texted alot today, called approx. 30 mins, checked my e-mail several times and played around with google maps for 20 minutes or so.
I did not tweak anything except that I flashed the 1.37 ROM and installed the newest Google-maps thingy.
So I can confirm that the new ROM saves alot of energy and that the battery-life gets better in time sounds also plausible.
With the 1.35 ROM the battery lasted 12 hours max with the same activities.
I've found that after a few days the battery is actually better than it was wen new. Must be that charge/discharging it a few times has helped...

actually I find your usage is a lot. during the day i will make one or two phone calls say 10 minutes. send an average of 5 sms texts and maybe check my email for a minute or 3. what takes most of my battery is when i read an ebook or do a game.

Maybe it is but for me i dont think its that high...as i said my nokia n95 8gb would last a good day or 2 before going completely dead and thats with the sort of usage that i described earlier. Anyways i have a synch cable coming which ill keep at work to charge the Diamond.
hey battery life is better after this tweak. but my 3g logo has changed... it's now in some greyish box... anyone know what this means?
I think this means that the network knows it's available but you haven't attached to the data service. I used to get a similar greying out of the globe icon on my P1i if the net knew it was there but I had unattached manually.
Hi i am novice with my HTC touch diamond & i am also facing the same problem of battery life.
you've shown some solution over there in your post. please, can you tell me where in my phone i need to go to apply this settings.
hank you

Touch Diamond Battery Problem

Hi, I just got my diamond 3 days ago and it seems to be having some battery problems, even when on standby it drains very fast, how long should the diamond last on a single charge (on standby, talk time, with wifi, or bluetooth) is there a benchmark to compare with.
the battery is just 900mha, like Nokia N95, so it is a bit underpowered, I suggest you to activate all energy saving tips through the program "Advance Config" and if you don't use/need UMTS & GPRS just fix your phone to don't discover automatically GPRS (always through Advance Config) and to GSM band (setting > phone > band), these reduce battery consumption.
bye,
davide
thanks, I'll try that, but even when not in use, the battery drains 20% to 30% per hr. tried it 3 time, same result, doesn't even reach 4 hrs of standby time
really strange... in any case your battery should go better after some cycles, wait at least 2/3 weeks before care
It's because the battery (like so many other aspects of this phone) sucks.
I got the new extended battery but that's useless too. It comes with a new cover for the phone but the battery itself is just twice as fat, so you end up with a 'sleek' phone that has a hunchback sticking out of it very awkwardly.
yep, I don't like the new battery, it makes a different phone
I have followed most of the battery saving advice that the usual programs can set up for you. I would say my phone, if its *just* standby can go 24 hours with just losing one "pin" on the battery meter. That means no calls, no peeking at the screen, no sms or otherwise communication. Since its hard to do this I have just tried 24 hours. If left on true standby I would say the battery would last for days.
I have a car charger and plug the Diamond into it while driving and in the office it sits in a cradle, at least I do not have to look for it under a pile of documents when it rings. Plus it serves as a fancy clock too!
The battery bar goes rarely below 70% while not plugged in.
3G and WiFi are extremly power hungry so do not expect hours of entertainment while they are on.
Fat battery is a bad road to take, I remember old Axim X51v (also HTC) with a 2.2Ah battery, it was like a brick. It is better to have a couple of small batteries rather than one big one obviously unless you want to play games on a transatlantic flight or go hiking for a long weekend.
One thing to remember is that your runtime grows faster than the battery capacity which is caused by the fact that at a slower rate of discharge the battery has a higher capacity, so if the 1350mAh battery is not too big it may be a worthwhile choice, I would expect the runtime to go up by between 75-100%. I just wonder how much longer will it take to charge and also you can say goodbye to most of the protective cases.

Buy a solar panel for mini usb and glue on the back of the diamond, then you will have infite standby time when left in the sun

What rom do you have? maybe it needs updating?
I am using the Customised Comms manager and that's made a massive difference, basically 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi are off unless I need to use them.
I charged last night for the first time in 3 days, making calls and playing around in between

want one!!!
i get about 1.5 days outta my battery....
only running on 2g with light sensing on 20 or more sms a day with maybe an hour of phone calls all up.
i'll copy-paste my answer from an another thread:
using yr phone in a place where the reception is not good will drain yr battery faster.
i can add (there is a relation) that the level of radiation that any phone is emitting it is also higher when reception it is not strong enough. i've seen it demonstrated yesterday. entering in yr car double the level of radiation, in an elevator the radiation increases 10 folds! yr phone tries to connect and that's energy consuming and radiation emitting (electromagnetic).
i guess that you bought yr phone not too long ago. i know it sounds strange but after a few cycles yr battery's life is going to improve and i am not the only one to observe it.
don't stop the charging when the battery icon is full. i learned using a wall charger with LED (red for charging, green for charged) that after diamond's icon said 100% the charging continues for at least 30 minutes more (the led was not fully green but was blinking red-green).
from my experience u can use all power management option from shap's advanced configuration without loosing yr connectivity. i can not tell u what those option are but after using all i can tell that diamond's battery life improved.
with only 2G and some e-mailing downloading and checking this forum a few times my battery last for 1.5 days. of course their is also 1-1.5 hours of phone calls.
don't expect yr battery to last if you are using yr diamond as an entertainment center (movies and mp3) or as a battery only powered GPS navigator. i am using my GPS in my car always connected to my car charger.
I'm thinking about buying something like that to solve the problem :

Hi
Rom 1.37.707.1
Radio 1.00.25.03
I'm not yet sure what the problem was, but it has something to do with the sim card that I'm using, the sim stop receiving signal and I tried another sim. The battery life improved and now It last more than a day.
thanks,
battery life

Well what can I say about it..... I'm totally new on this forum but this site is greeeat!!!!! Anyway - I have Diamond about 3-4 days, I had the same problems as most of us: overheating, battery life, ActiveSync on every 5 mins.... I just couldn't stand thoughts that I spend £250 on such a crappy thing until I found this site
What I've done was: install HARDSPL, then changed Radio from 1.00.25.05 to 1.08.25.08 using CustomRUU and changed ROM 1.93 onto cooked ROM: [WM 6.1] NEW SWIFTBL WWE DIAMhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=2460083OND ROM V7.5 (FULL & LITE VERSIONS) - CE OS 5.2.20755 (Build 20755 AKU 1.4.0) - FULL VERSION, then installed Regedit as well, done some additionall tweaks like Better Power Management (changing registry HKLM) - basicly - adding all tweaks that u can find on the internet and..........my Diamond is a real Diamond now I've spend 3 hours listening to my mp3's, then running wifi at home, playing etc.. and my battery life went from 100% to about 80% - all during all day using ...

could u explain more, with the links to the progs u used? i'd really use this info
thx
I am getting about 48 hours (I probably talk less than 30 minutes in that time). Using default x04ht rom on diamond with radio 1.00.25.05 (just flashed to 1.08.25.20 and getting about the same). Charge every day isn't bad, but every 1.5 to 2 days for a device like this; no complaints.

Battery Life

Hi Guys
I work in the IT dept of my company and ive got the job of supporting all our WM devices. (97% of them are the HTC Tytn II/Kaiser)
i get moaned at alot about this things and the main thing is the battery life is p*ss poor! All they run is active sync to pull in emails as they arrive and then the usual phone call, but yet the battery still wont last a day.
Does anyone know of any tricks or tweaks i can do on the devices to make them squeeze out every last drop of battery life?
cheers
Yeah, if you can get Advanced Config installed on their phones, fire it up, go to the right soft-key "Menu" option, and in there should be a Comm Manager selection. Pick it, and in the panel that comes up check on teh 3G button. Then, close out of Advanced Config and let it reset the phone. When the phone comes back up, go into the Comm Manager and there will be a new button to turn 3G on and off. Turn it off. If all they're doing is phone calls and pulling down emails, the Edge connection should be more than sufficient. I've also noticed improved battery life by leaving bluetooth turned on all the time (I now it's counterintuitive and could be a placebo effect, but I swear it makes a difference for me.) I can get well over 2 days on Edge connection with the stock battery using these 2 tricks.

If they don't have them already, you may want to have car chargers installed in the company cars of those with TyTN IIs. As for settings yes disabling HSDPA or even better going back to just plain GSM rather than 3G will help battery life (although also slow down any internet connectivity). You could also try turning down the screen brightness as this has a major effect on battery life but then they'll probably all complain the device has p*ss poor screen visibility (especially in bright sunshine - so if you're in the UK this won't be an issue )
If these suggestions don't work then I think the best plan will be to make it as easy as possible for them to top up charge during the day, perhaps with desktop cradles as well if this would encourage charging. I sometimes need more than one battery charge in more than a day (I've even used up all of my spare battery charge as well on a day involving lots of GPS navigation on foot) so yes these things do normally use lots of battery power if you have all the bells and whistles running and no charging occuring. Make sure wifi is left off on the TyTN IIs unless it's actively being used at the time.
Which ROMs are they using - all HTC official? There are reported differences in battery consumption depending on the ROM version used.
cheers for that guys
I will give both of your suggestions ago, next time i get one of the tytns in front of me.
I have the advanced config for the HTC diamond would that work on the tytn? if not where would i get that from?
Is it just me or are we being left with the sour taste of "Why should we have to compromise on the performance of the device to get 2 days battery life out of it?"
Unfortunately " push " email kills an already suspect battery. Activesync and your media net ?, edge? or 3G remains connected all the time . I had to go from " when they arrive" to " check every 30 minutes " for email or else my battery , even with minimal use would not last past 5pm.
I really miss my Blakberry in this respect. My Tilt does everything and everything for me, and does so on battery power. I guess if it just made phone calls the battery would last for days.
i agree denco, all the HTC WM devices ive ever had, they've had a load of functions but the battery is all very weak! whether or not that is something to do with HTC or WM i dont know, but its very annoying and just something we have to live with as my company signed a 2 year contract with Orange in March so there is nothing we can do!
Well, I doubt that it is Windows Mobile; ok, to be correct: WM has gotten more powerful with each new version, got even more and more graphical additions, just like Vista compared to XP. For sure this needs much more horse power and, in fact, processor and RAM are increasing. However, HTC barely increases battery capacy as well - might it be because of size / weight proportion or other reasons - I don't know!
I had the MWg Zinc II for a while and the battery life (1500mAh capacy) was amazing. However, audio / network reception quality was a joke on that thing.
Thankfully, there are HIGH CAPACY and EXTENDED BATTERIES available for the HTC's. They make your device look funny but surely increase your battery life as well.
I am (still) willing to sacrifice battery life for quality; arranging my life by having a car charger and also a 2nd battery with me when on the go. Hopefully HTC's batteries will evolve and have higher capacy in future devices.
Kaiser battery life
I am not an expert at this. I also was unable to keep a battery operational for half a day until I did a hard reset, and brought it back to stock ATT 6.1. Then used the phone without email for a day and noted no excessive battery drain. (70% at end of the day) Kaiser tweak added, with the “Disconnect after” parameter in the Data (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/WIFI) set to 1 min. Added the MS Push to my Exchange server, and only use the single email account. No appreciable battery drain. (68% at end of day)
The only thing I have NOT enabled yet is the ATT Navigator. Will add Google Maps and see if it messes with GPS chip. I have read and experienced the GPS draining my battery, even after turning it off, within a couple of hours.

In the advanced config, there are also settings for "Power management", make sure there is enabled in all of them.

Nah, considering the EEEpc I have gets about 2 hours battery max, and I can do a stack load more on the TyTnII than on the laptop, I', pretty happy. I had aan old Nokia that would go for 2 weeks without charging, but for a high end, gps enabled windows phone, 2 days is amazing.
@ splash08 : you can also try upgrading to the new 1.70 radio found in the kaiser rom thread, seems to give me less drain. Also, you can buy larger capacity 3rd party batteries.. maybe thats the best soultion.
GPS (Telenav) causing my battery drain
Since my last post on the 27th, I have had ZERO problems until I used the Telenav on Friday evening the 5th. Since then can only get about 4 hours out of the battery before it drains completly and that is with ZERO use. I have uninstalled Telenav and done multiple power down, but stilll draining. Looking for a way to turn off the GPS before I do a hard reset.
GPS had no issues with google maps and no battery problems.
ive now tried all those suggestions but non have really made a dramatic increase. I thought i cracked it at one point, over a weekend my phone last from saturday all the way though to monday night! but then i realised that saturday and sunday is off peak so the push/pull function was set to every 60mins! As soon as i got back to work during the week the device would last just over one day, on emails only.
i think i may have to look into getting the extended batteries or maybe changing all the devices for a none HTC device, as they seem to have a weak batteries (but i think this may be the last resort at it will cost a lot ot change all the devices)

R2AA008 huge battery drain?

Anyone else experiencing huge battery drain in R2AA008 (Generic_UK)?
Updated few days ago and now X1 drains the batery in 6 hours.
- Same location (networks etc)
- Same config (ie. all power-savingoptions enabledin Advanced Config)
- Same Microsoft Push settings, same servers etc
Any ideas?
Maybe SE changed some hidden power management settings. They did fix the BT shutting off on its own automatically. Id bet that was some badly implemented power saving strategy.
I use my BT very rarely so it's turned off like 99% of time so that's not the issue. Just can't figure this one out. If all else fails I have to flash R1 back, situation now is just not working, can't use phone for a full workday :/
just set the backlight to 20~30%, then you'll have more battery life I always use this method.
You're comparing the R2AA008 with which firmware?

I'm sure I read somewhere that disabling auto-backlight actually throttles back the CPU for some reason.
It's strange I know but I read it somewhere on XDA-Devs
I'm comparing to R1 generic UK, will try R2AA0010 and see what happens. Will also try auto backlight. (Strange, always had it on auto)
Does anybody encounter the following situation?
I have my X1 fully charged and put to sleep. After 8 hours and switch on X1 again, there were only 30% battery left.
I've updated my X1 ROM to R2AA008 too. But I got my phone stanby for four days and the battery still last about 20%-30%.
I think the only reason is your battery is not original or it's not OEM battery.
No problem here. My battery work for whole 2 days.
BT - 4-5 hours connected with my Jabra BT Car Speaker + 2 hours at home with laptop
WiFi - 2-3 hours
Voice - 1-2 hours
Still having fun with my X1 so I turn it on very often to check, change settings etc.
At the end of the 2nd day it has 10-20%
ROM R2AA008 UK
Backlight auto, nothing special
Power drain
I had a smilar problem. It was due to a third party case which had a small bump pressing on the screen. They seemed to draw power. Out of the case, it lasts a lot longer.
Been testin R2AA0010 for a few days, same thing. Looks like I have to confirm this by moving back to R1. Annoying at least, X1 doesn't survive for one day as it is.
I use up the entire battery with just 4 hours of web browsing through wifi/3g on the R2A10 rom.
The same behaviour for me as well with the new ROM.
I am using exactly the same settings, apps, tweaks as before the upgrade, and now I have to charge the battery every day. With the R1 ROM it was 2 days!
It seems the 3G is eating the battery power so much in the new R2 ROM.
I just disabled it, because I don't use the video call, and the ordinary email checking doesn't need HSDPA, a simple EDGE is enough.
So, I got back the 2 days uptime
Consumption of power is bigger i R2A10 imho comparing to R2A08 genUK.
1.5 day it's all I can survive
Have you thought about why the new R2 rom is much snappier? Perhaps the CPU core isn't being throttled anymore/as effectively as before. I'll trade the increased response for battery life though, just need a standby battery ready. Now, if only SE would release a decent charger for that...
Me personally, i haven't noticed any huge difference in power consumption. I believe most X1's come with batteries from China, the outlet I dealt with in Taipei (remember HTC is based here and makes phones here) reports some issues with the new batteries.
