Broke my Kaiser :( - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

So as the title suggests, my Kaiser is pretty much broken. Well, sorta, the phone itself works; but the LCD screen is cracked Here's a picture of the wreckage:

So I have two questions:
1. What's a good program that I can use to backup all my stuff on the phone ( the stuff on the internal memory, like the programs, today screen styles, etc.).
2. Is it possible to buy a replacement LCD screen for the phone and crack open the phone myself and install a new screen? This might be a little easier then having to go through AT&T to get a whole new phone.
Thanks for reading, guys, and I hope you can help me out

For sure you can....

1). Search these forums for mymobiler. Install on your pc. It will give you access to your phone and you can download/unload everything.
2). Search these forums for cracked or replacement screen. I recall seeing several threads concerning replacement of the screen.

Wow, a quick search in eBay gave me this! It seems legit, should I go ahead and order it???

The link doesnt work for me but Ive already replaced 2 lcds, 1 on a wing and one on a tilt with ebay replacement lcds so there are definitely legit seller on there.

oOps, I fixed the link

I broke my screen on last Thursday and the MyMobiler program saved me from having to buy a new phone right away. Although I have used the phone so much I can pretty much still make phone calls blind, the MyMobiler program helped a bunch.
I ordered my new screen today from blackberry8100parts.com. I got some info from the forums here and they seem legit. Hell, they even provide a coupon code (which is XDA) for us to get 10% off. Thanks.
I will post again after I get the screen with how things work out. Right now it is $47 (not including 10% discount) + ~$7 shipping. It is the complete LCD + Touchscreen + digitizer. They have one without the digitizer as well for the same price. I was expecting much more. Now I hope my install goes well. Oh, that website also has the Tilt / Kaiser service manual for download too.
Here is the link to the screen with the digitizer.

I got the screen in this past weekend and followed the HTC service manual with a little help from another website and everything went very smoothly.
I decided to disassemble the entire Tilt rather than the 4 screw method I have read about here on XDA. Partially because I wanted to do it correctly and partially because I want to see the insides.
I was a little nervous about using the plastic pry tool (comes with screen) to get the case off but if you follow the insertion points that they list in the guide everything comes apart quite nice and goes back together just as easy.
My Tilt has come back from the dead!

Would not Soti Pocket Controller work as well? However, it's not free.

We will receive another batch before the end of the month, so you may want to order one today before those are gone too.
With this SD camera YOU DON'T NEED SDIO, so it works perfectly with the XDA. You can even record video!

it dont seem to stay secured in the slot!

after u here that little click, when u push it in.
any idea why?
other than that, its very nice!
i hope they make a 1.3/2.1 mp soon

I see that you do export. I am in the UK. Just trying to match up the price to work out feasability. Looks expensive.

I was almost considering ordering one of these, but the camera has no flash, which is the problem with a lot of the camera phones.
A friend pointed out if I were to spend $80 for it, I might as well put in a little bit more money and get a cheap digital camera.
Basic line is this. Camera phones are finally evolving and new ones come with a flash. To be honest, you REALLY need a flash with these things.
I just saw a tiny camera at Fry's that does video, 1MP stills, has flash, and a built-in display LCD. $90. Might as well just get that and swap the card into the XDA if you want to copy/send photos. This camera is too little for too much. It's too big to really be any particular space saver. Is it even safe to carry around in the device all the time (couldn't it release and fall out if bumped)?
i have one of these, paid £59 from ebay, but it doesnt lock into the sd slot. any advice on making it stay in or it will get lost.
Smallboy... why not try the bodger's favourite... a small wodge of "blue tac"! - this works for me for my tom-tom car cradle (along with a couple of screws at the bottom of the cradle)
Theoretically you could place the blue tac between the xda body and camera, which would give it some "grip" but yet easily removable.
not a bad idea m8, but i use the sd slot with a 256mb card for my navigator maps and mp3's
SD camera for XDA
Where can I buy it ? Datanywhere has teamed up with Expansys !
Regards,
i got mine from ebay uk.
And I just put in a purchase on ebay to the seller seems a really nice guy replied straight away

he replys quick and informs you of everyhting happening hes a top bloke

Im glad to here that, he does seem a top guy
Im really surprising something like expansys hasnt picked this camera up
Thinking of expansys got another topic to do
From the looks of it, the camera on eBay keeps droping a droping if its get really low I get another one for a just incaser
Great piece of kit aint tried it out but will sometime this week
it is a good peice of kit but i cant always be bothered to carry it around with me.
i got a 3.1 mercury digicam that takes pics/movie/sound thats SD card so i can use that

New screens

My own screen has some scuffs and scratches, and i was looking for a new one. Now i know because of my old job that having it replaced at a repair-center (i worked at one) that will cost me something like 160 euro's.
But now i found a company (www.iiparts.com) on internet that sells the "samsung LTP280QV" displays for $75 a piece (for minimum of 5 pieces) and thats a good price i think.
These displays are used in the wizard and the magician ( :!: but Toppoly TD028STEB1 is also used, and they are not interchangeable :!: )
Maybe if there is enough interest for those displays we could buy some together (saves a lot of postage costs  )?
It is not my goal to make money out of this, but to all save money.
So if anyone who is seriously interested could PM me, then i'll see if its worth it.
Goodluck.

Same here
That's not what he is asking guys.
There are a lot of users who won't use protectors because of disadvantages with it.
So if anyone is interested in a new display and don’t mind to do some DIY then please add your thread.

thnks drifter, thats what i want to say. And as i saw on the forum, there are a lot of people who dropped their device and have a broken LCD. For them it's also a lot cheaper, and DIY doesn't matter for them because their warranty is already voided because of dropping it.
.....
I already have sent my 9100 to the repair center....
If they will ask me a lot, I will contact you soon.
Today I got back my PDA....
I have disassembled it to check the type of the screen but it is a "Toppoly TD028STEB1"
Do someone know where to buy this kind of screen?

BUMP!
Hallo?!?!?
anyone?
is there anybody out there?
My question is there a screen which has decent sensitivity. I have had two T-Mobile MDAs and both are pretty poor when it comes to screen tap sensitivity. Also I have a continuous problem with alignment. After about a week I have to carry out a hard reset. Example if I am searching in my contacts database and use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen instead of scrolling the contact the stylus is adjacent to is selected. I have tried screen recalibration and that does not correct the issue. The only resolution is to clear storage and that is getting very aggrivating. Any suggestions. I am running Mr. Clean rev 2.4a. Am I looking at a software glitch or a bad screen... My guess is a substandard screen.
Bump again....
I still need to get the screen!!!!!!
Do you know if there's an easy way to determine which screen is installed without having to disassemble the phone? My Wizard100 (Cing2125) is fairly new and I just want to avoid disassembly unless it is really, really, really needed...
Sorry but I have no idea how to get that info without "explode" the PDA.
It will help to keep the guarantee as valid
Taking the Magician and Wizard apart
Hi,
How easy is it to take the magician and wizard apart?
...and put back together
I've looked on the net for hours and not found any instructions. On this site I have seen people talk of repairing their phones but no guides or indication of how easy/hard it is
thanks,
Graham.
OK, I found the service manual for the wizard at:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Docs_Tutorials/Wizard_Service_Manual.pdf
but what about the Magician?
thanks,
Graham.
I'm waiting for spare parts from china....

I am wondering how you take out the old keyboard and put this one in (above).
Reason i ask, i ordered the one below, but some keys are falling off and i might just have to send it back, if the seller ever gets back to me. If not ill go the mean route.
By using the search function you would have found this info.
Ive searched for many things, and yes, search works and google is my best friend, but honestly, i have found nothing about replacing that first version of the keyboard. Even the manuals i have downloaded dont give any clues. Sure, the second one, which i got to replace ours, shows in the manual how to take the phone apart and replace that version, but i cant seem to find anything on replacing just the pad. And looking at these keyboards i have, from the bottom i see no way to push the keyboard out and slap in a new one. It makes me think the first type on the top of the OP just pops out and the new one would just pop back in
Another few hours of reading and searching and still nothing about how that first keyboard is installed. I guess i will just have to wreck one of these new ones to see how its held in there.
this is all there is.
http://www.mikechannon.net/page1.html
ive already found those, during my numerous searches, and they dont show how to remove the keyboard and replace it with the first one in my OP.
So much for the SEARCH, eh???
The search didn't come up with something? ah then it worked, if it's not there then it probley isn't there. Stop crying.
Stop being rude and running into every thread and telling people to search when you only want to bump you post count. Try and be a little productive and not so much pest

Don't let them get you down! Keep looking and keep asking! I guarantee non of them woke up one morning suddenly an expert. Somebody helped them.
If it is like the other phones I have disassembled. The keys are just an overlay. Almost like a sticker. Most new ones come on a plastic backing that gets pealed off. Just be careful think out your steps and work methodically, and it never hurts to have a unit to practice on.
Document your steps and photograph everything and you can write a How-To to help the others.
Good Luck!

With all honesty you didn't really describe what you wanted that well in the original post. So from my perspective you wanted to know how to remove the keyboard, which was found by searching. Your second post described it in better detail..

That's your LED screen. Google "screen replacement for (your model)" Should pull up a bunch of sites. Install yourself if able, cause some of these companies are ridiculous on prices. Did my wing for $28.00, I think. Been awhile. Good luck

wouldn't that mean i couldn't see a picture? my screen works fine its just cracked. I was told it is most likely the digitizer (but my touch gestures still work as well).

I assumed it was the screen itself. Is the screen plastic or glass. I would think plastic, but who knows. Google it. Most screens include the digitizer when the screen is purchased. Personally I would replace both at the same time if cheap enough. You'll have the phone apart anyway, If you plan on doing it yourself.
I found it fun & a bit educational. might have to order a tool or 2 but there very cheap. Be careful of the ribbon connectors, you can break them very easily.
Wow sorry to see the HTC Dream/G1 suffer the way it did.
I think its time to hang up the phone for good.
Save the money you would pay to fix it and move onto something newer.

Is that really a fair comparison ? It's a non-rooted G1 running 1.6. I'd like to see the results on a rooted/flashed w/Froyo 2.2 Also not overclocked like some of them.
Screens are cheap, relatively easy to install fix for a $400 phone. Seems a waste to "hang it up".
Interesting info @ site though.

The HTC Dream/G1 is dead last in benchmarks.
Unless he can find a screen for dirt cheap I believe it would be a waste of cash.
If he is eligible for a full upgrade discount from his provider let him decide for himself.

Agreed, it is his decision.
Root/Flash and overclock the G1 and your saying it will still be dead last ?
So another words, you break your $400 phone and "you" would just buy a new one ?

So i shattered my screen on my phone and have been looking into buying a new digitizer but I have not been able to find any guides/videos for doing so. Has anyone had success repairing a cracked screen?
I read on a forum on a different site that someone was attempting to replace the screen but that when it came time to separate the screen from the bezel it got hairy.
Any help would be much appreciated. Using the original blackjack in the meantime and it is killing me!

Here's a video for motorola A855. Not the same but a good starting point. There's more videos to look thru. Read the comments as well, they should be helpful. One dude said he successfully did it with a phillips screwdriver without taking it all apart. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Awesome thanks for the link. I will be ordering the screen within the next couple days and will post results.
If at all possible I will try to upload a youtube video of the process specific to the xt720.
I also broke the touch, as you have you got mounted?
you made the video ....?
know of a link somewhere manually?
hello thanks.

So what's the verdict? Did you order one?
unfortunately I have not had the chance to mess with it yet. I ordered it and its at my house, I am just trying to find the time to break everything down. I also made the mistake of buying a vibrant 4g before I fixed it so I have been even more preoccupied with that. I will try to post results this weekend. Sorry for the delay
Interesting. I want to get one of those. However in my case, its the glass part of the touchscreen thats broken i.e. all touch are still registered as if nothing is wrong. Do I need a digitizer or just a replacement glass lens.? Or is it just one big planel (glass lens + touch digitizer)?
