NoSleep!!.CAB - Stops the screen blanking during calls - WORKS!! [02/08/2008] - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi
I made this little CAB to install the registry tweaks that prevent your screen from blanking. I can confirm that on my Orange Diamond, using Bepe's .97 this actually works, whereas using Advanced Config didn't solve the issue.
The CAB file is uninstallable should you wish to remove it.
Thanks,
Shinobi_UK

Can you explain what´s in that cab?

Actually i found that using DT didn't work either, and I also find it more convenient to apply the registry changes with a cab file, rather than having to install an app I don't use and then make a load of clicks.
If you prefer to do it using a tweaking app then this cab isn't for you. The only reason I posted it is because I use it myself.

Four registry tweaks, and a text file. Nothing sinister.

Well actually it's been very easy to achieve by taking registry snapshots, and then using diff on a linux box to find the changes, then import them into a cab file.
So thanks for wishing me luck but it's not required.
Sarcasm breeds sarcasm and frankly i'm slightly ammused that on a forum designed to help users share tips and software, a simple CAB i use after new ROM flashes has created such a hostile response.
I'm not attempting to replace or belittle your tool monte, it's certainly streets ahead of what i can do at the moment, however as bepe's ROM lets me run cabs at build this way is nice and easy for me to ensure that if I need to do a hard reset I can reinstate my registry tweaks during the reset without having to install any additional software.

I find it annoying to have to unblank the screen to use the keypad for things like phone banking and voicemail.

The registry tweaks in Advanced Config did not work on my phone either, but this cab did the job. Thanks shinobi_uk

THIS is effing amazing
Been looking for something like this for a looong time, cheers

Brilliant, I'd tried the registry tweaks in the tweaks thread, and advancedconfig without any luck and this cab worked perfectly.
I haven't tried DiamondTweak, looks interesting though.

This works perfectly. Big Thanks!

It's not that bad, it just annoys me when I'm phoning numbers where you have a number menu system to get through.
It's strange that it's something no other WM phones I've used have done, yet theres no menu option to disable it.

This CAB file is flawed, because it causes unnecessary battery drain.
It's wrong to make the screen never go to sleep during a phone call.
If you'll think about it for a moment, during a call we never really need the screen to be active for more than 1 minute or so, from the last time we touched it. If you are calling a digital voice machine (either your voicemail or anything), 99.999% of the time it won't take more than 1 minute between key presses.
The ideal tweak should just make the screen behave like when you're not in a call, meaning the screen reduces brightness after ~30 seconds, and shuts down after ~1 minute. In order to be 100% on the safe side, you could make it shut down after 2 minutes from last key press. BUT, making it never go to sleep is simply a waste of battery if you're doing for example a 30 minutes conversation.

center button and screen back on
My preference is to have the screen come on, see who it is, then allow it to go blank. If you need it to come back on, i just push the center of the scroll, enter button or whatever its called, and the screen comes back on. (at least it does on mine) . I like it that the screen blanks so it will save battery.
But i dont think we should discourage anyone from making any kind of cab if they desire.

Still, it is unnoying to press that damn key every 5 seconds. The screen should shut down after 1-2 minutes, but NOT never.

Thats abosolute BS. It is NOT flawed. If you dont want your screen to stay on just - dont use the CAB. I think most users around here are smart enought to know that keeping the screen on during a call takes a battery hit. If they use the CAB as I intend to they are willing to accept this.

S2U2 and Voice Dialer

I can't use voice dialer when S2U2 locks phone, is there a way around this? I like the S2U2 application, but when I am driving and need to make a phone call via bluetooth handfree I can't, because s2u2 block the voice dialer.
I did look for a solutions via the search engine and in the s2u2 thread, but no luck thus far.

Thanks for your response,
HTC 8925 (Tilt)
Dutty's Touch AT&t beta 2
Cyberon Voice Speed Dial V1.2 build 070626
The newest version of S2U2 v0.95 offers a solution to this problem by adding the ability to use exceptions to temporarily disable S2U2.
1) Install the new version.
2) Run iLock2 to close the application.
3) Use a registry editor:
Under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\A_C\S2U2, find an open ExceptionEXE(0-9) (STRING). I used ExceptionEXE3. Enter the value: "SDDialer.exe" (this is the application that runs when you press the button on your bluetooth headset).
4) Run iLock2 to restart the application and you're done.
Thanks to tompol for discovering this solution. I first tried it by entering the value: "Voice Speed Dial.lnk", but this didn't work.
Hello,
i have another problem with S2U2 on my Kaizer, and i think i created it but cannot get through it. After i did some changes on the S2U2 settings now every time the lock goes on and even if i open the settings i get a black screen and can not do anything. If i press the power on button to turn off the screen and then on, i get the S2U2 screen but frozen, with out any animation! I have tried to remove and re-install the application but i get the same response from the program. Could someone give me some help, because i really like the application but can not use it...
TIA,
Nikos.

did you turn on the directdraw option or safe mode option?
When you uninstall an app, it leaves behind the registry entries. As soon as you reinstall the app, those settings are in affecct again. Uninstall the app, use a registry editor to remove the following key, soft reset, then try to reinstall:
The key to remove is HKCU\Software\A_C
Ok, I had the exact same problem, the problem is indeed with D3D option, you need to disable it. As soon as it is off and the settings are saved, the program works fine once again, and smoother then previous version.
This part is gonna be hard to explain... but here it goes...
First thing to do is run ilock so that when u turn the screen off it doesn't start S2U2.
When you open the settings the screen freezes, like the kaiser crashed, but if you move down and you turn the screen off and on, you'll see the menu scrolled down.
Basically that means u're working blind, changes do occur but u can't see, so the process is to move it down, turning the screen off and on sistematically until u see the d3d option and turn it off, then save it.
Hope I explained myself enough.
Takes some work, but doesn't require registry tweaking and other settings are kept.
Keep posted on results.
Cheers, Esko

It was indeed the direstdraw option. It was easier for me to try eskostar's method, especially since i had tried the same blind procedure but i did not figure the trick with running the ilock first!!!

I have this problem. When I start S2U2 and miss call screen remains as it is when someone call (caller's number and slide to answer or two buttons with green and red phone). Whatever I push or click nothing happens. So I must softreset or turn off and on my Kaiser. Some tips?
Sorry I dont have that issue. However my problem with this version of S2U2 is when SLide to Answer is Active you can still use the Hardware Keys to answer!
Anyone no how to deactivate the Hardware keys during Slide to Answer?

if any of the apps in the exception list are running, not just in the foreground, even if they are running in the background, then [email protected] will not enable. Check your exception list, make sure none of those apps are currently running, then try again. If you still have issues after that, then it's with S2U2, not the exception list.

Good deal, glad it worked for you....
when I install S2U2 (i go thru phases where I want it, then phases of "get it off my Tilt") the first thing I do is remove the exception for PIE.
FYI.... Likewise, if you run any of the Cube or TouchFlo variants out there, you will need to put an exception into the TouchFlo settings for S2U2. What happens if you don't is when you try to slide to unlock (or slide to answer) you end up invoking the Cube or TouchFlo, instead of S2U2. Just an FYI for you....
Thanks for the tip. Am still looking into wicked programs so far, only had it two weeks and it's already been through the mod ringer.

u need to install advanced confog tool from Schaps, there is an option to disable device sleep while on call.
CSD connection
The screen also turns itself off when I use a CSD connection for internet access on my device. I assume it's because the phone thinks I'm making a regular phone call, so it turns the display off.
I found that if I load up tomtom in the background, the screen stays on, but after a while, the screen starts to turn itself off for about a second every few seconds, so it has only worked as a temporary solution.
I will give the advanced config tool a try. ty
IDK know about advanced config, but kaiser tweak is a nifty little program to change a lot of settings
Advanced config is just about the same as KaiserTweak.
I think kaiser tweak has a few more options now. I had advanced config on a couple of roms i flashed and i think kaiser tweak is a little more encompassing as far and the number of features you can tweak.

For those users interested to find a solution to disable the curtain, here is the package. Could be a dll or a registry key.
Found a solution
Found a solution with reg key.
Goto HKLM\Software\HTC\Phone\Cover
There is a DWORD value ResumeInterval set to 5000 (5secs).
I changed it 300000 (5mins) and soft-reset.
Now the call starts with slider on, you only need to slide down once. Then it will wait for 5 mins of inactivity to come back up.
Probably higher values can be used, but 5mins should work for me.
As always, modify registry at your own risk...

I had zero issue with the standard one, it was functional and did exactly as one would expect. Topaz dialer hides all options instantly making it absolutely dangerous to try and activate loudspeaker whilst driving . The other issue is landscape view, if using any rotate screen app and having the device in landscape (ie. whilst using GPS apps etc) and receiving a call there is no dialer shown at all!
Surely I am not the only one to notice these problems?
thanks man it helped

[Q] how to disable/turn off in call curtain?

the in-call "Slide down for more options" curtain
does anyone know how to turn this feature off?
i've searched and there are a few threads on this
but with no answers.
thanks in advance
I need this aswell, Could it be fixed with a registery edit?
I'm guessing you guys have done the same that I've done loads .... pulled the slider the wrong bloody way and hung up on people ? ?
I have to keep remembering to use the answer button not the touch screen.
I have searched some more, Without an actual solution,
Still I think it should be 'fixed' by a registry edit.
Can anyone give a concrete answer?
I remember when I used my HTC Touch Elfin, Some roms had the 'curtain' and some didn't, though it were 'the same dialers'
Sorry for the double post, But, Bump?
Anyone?
u can set the delay
HKEY Local Machine/Software/HTC/Phone/Cover/ResumeInterval
Default is 5000
So, To what should we change it to disable it?
0?
No not "0" Set it to "999999999999" or something. Tried many things like make an registry key EnablePhoneCover etc but nothing works
999999999999 would disable it completely?

No but you only have to slide down once. I have installed the screenoff tweak every time i make a call the screen turns of but the slider is not coming back
Oh ok ^^ Ty mate Will do for now...
But I still think there is a better way to do it, cause some diallers on custom roms do not contain the curtain, But are the same diallers.
I now but this was not with the new Topaz
I tried everyting in the registry but no luck so far
It's been 40 days since the last post. I was wondering if someone came with a fix for it by now?
I don't need this curtain. I want to have all the call options to begin with on my Diamond2 Just like I had it with my old Touch Pro. I don't want the curtain to show at all! I don't want to slide it down even once, Just to completely avoid it alltogether.

I noticed that installing Rhodium Dialer from CAB which I prepared disables curtain (and enables landscape and coference modes for dialer). The problem is that installation of this takes about 18mb of storage memory.
I'm thinking of creating my own ROM (as I did for Omnia ) based on 6.1 with Flashlite3 support in Opera and full landscape support cooked inside (using Rhodium components) .

SMS - 2-5 seconds to load cursor, slow input from keyboard

Anyone have the problem where when you select a contact and then text it takes 2-5 seconds to load the screen with the cursor? And the cursor itself is pretty slow to get input from the keyboard.
I'm pretty sure my keyboard itself needs cleaning as I've seen in other threads. However in Win 6.1 and now 6.5 with autocomplete of sentences on or off I still see the huge delay before I can type. Something feels wrong about this, anyone else experience this and have any advice?
usually turning off any autocomplete or t9 should speed up typing delay
well - stuff like that happens in Windows Mobile
theres a registry cab file somewhere here that fixes this.. do a search
Hmm yeah I have text correction set to None so no prediction or sugesstion.
I'm running windows mobile 6.5 is there anywhere else I could go.
Just counted now and from the time the screen acknowledge my click on text to the white screen and cursor loading is 7 seconds. My god windows mobile grrrr!
Everything else on the phone is pretty fast but wow 7 seconds!

I've looked for cabs, registry tweak etc searching here and on google and I haven't had any luck. I've tried w/o quotes stuff like "SMS slow registry tweak" "txt slow" etc etc but no luck any pointers?

LOL. You're a funny man... telling him to "do a search" after all those ****worthy threads You've started.
anyway...
I don't know if it's going to work for You mate, but worked like a charm on my tytn 2 back in the past.
Hey, not sure if you tried this, but there's also a cab, or registry hack which disables the text "counter" in sms which also decreases the delay.
Here's there XDA thread which links to the original posting at ppcgeeks:

I have it cooked into my rom and it does help. I don't even miss the counter cause everyone I know either has unlimited text, or doesn't text at all.
Also, whenever you want to send a text make sure your Xperia is in landscape before going into the sms program or hitting reply. It helps a bit there too.
hope all that helps.
peace

yea thats the one..
Thanks I ran the cab and followed the directions about thread_sms.htm
All I saw in thread_sms.htm was <Inbox:ComposeBodyCount> which I assume is not the count of characters and my unexperia rom already removed that.
Having it in landscape mode prior to clicking someone's name definitely helps although first time I do it there's still some 5 secs or so of delay. But if I go back to another contact there's none. I'll keep playing a bit but thanks much better.
Day by day I will actually make my phone usable!
Edit: Also it's great how original X1 users have to wait and use cooked roms to get features from X2 to actually make the X1 "ok"
