Contact Photos - Am I missing something ?? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi All
A quick question regarding the contact photos in the People tab in TouchFlo.
I click add favourite, and asks me to pick a contact... so I do.
Then it asks me to pick a photo or use the camera, at this point I WANT to use the camera.
The camera starts but is locked to full photo mode, not contact photo mode.
All the buttons that are normally there are gone leaving just the menu button, which is no use whatsoever. SURELY this is some sort of bug.
Even if I go back to full camera mode and set it to contacts mode (hoping it would use the last mode selected) it still uses full photo mode.
Am I doing something stupid or overlooking something really obvious ??
And before anyone says.... Yes I know I can take the photo first then add it later, it's not the point

BUMP
Could some one at least confirm that this happens on their Diamond as well, so I can at least know whether this is normal behavior or just my device.
It will take you around 1 minute to confirm.
... please

Confirmed from me ... Can't change photo mode... can't change where to save the picture, have to save it in 'device memory'.. bummer ...but I never noticed because I never used it that way...

Thanks mate for confirming that.
Like to meet the programming genius behind that... and ***** slap em upside the head

Anyone noticed the Kaiser's front camera bug ??

In terms of left=left and right=right ..
the main/back camera works as expected ..but when it comes to the secondary/front camera, here's what my result is:
normal mode is actually "flipped/mirror"..meaning if you raised your left hand -->> picture actually shows right hand ..etc
and when switching to "flip" mode ... it acts accordingly ... left = left and right = right..but only when you have the device sideway to landscape ... if you hold it normally .. picture is upside down ..etc
Better yet, ... write out a word and view it with the front camera in both modes & you will get a clearer explanation of what I was trying to explain above
This is coming from "desktop webcam" point of perspective .... because with webcam, what you "noted" will read out normally ...
Imagine "video conferencing" and things do not read the "correct way"
or taking self portrait and the message is backward ...
what's up with that ??
almost 200 views ... yet, nobody has confirmed this bug ??
I'll take from the silence that we are all experiencing the same thing then !!
holler if you found a solution
I don't know, a face is a face. I just checked this bug out using the camera app, Very Interesting!;
I set it to Camera2, my face was a mirror image, I held a text card and yes the text was reversed.
I set it to Camera2 Flipped, my face was "normal", text was readable.
Here's what's ODD, in the Camera2 setting, if I "barrel rolled" rotated the camera 360 degrees while watching the monitor, My face was always upright!
If I set it to "Camera2 Flip" and rotated the camera, my image rotates upside down as the camera rotates.
That's different!
Hmm, just saw this and tried it. At first when I went to the camera options there were only the options main camera and 2nd camera (flip) so I hit that one and everything was reversed then I hit the camera button again and the option for 2nd camera without the (flip) was there and that one works the way it's supposed to.
basically what I'm saying is ...
If you ever have a video conference and the need for written words happen .. things are going to be all backward ..etc .. other then that ... the video is mirror in "normal mode"
and when it's in "flip mode" ... you're upside down at all times except when the unit is landscape position.
The camera should acted the same as your desktop webcam though ... where written message are seen as they should be seen ... the normal "readable" way !!!
Hi
This is how you see it of course at your end. A mirror image is normally more natural to look out when you are watching your image as a preview as we are used to seeing ourselves as a mirror image.
What is being sent to the person the other end, it probably isn't a mirror image but as you would expect. My webcam works in exactly this way, I can choose the type of preview image I see but this doesn't alter what the recipient sees.
Regards
Phil
Totally right. I don't think this is a bug.

Just click on the camera ICON, you will toggle from back, front(mirror), front(normal) and all your confusions will go away.
Unrelated yet related question...
Curious about a security app that possibly exists/could be written involving the front camera option. Is there any way that, unbeknowst to the "user", the front camera could capture their image and automatically e-mail it to the address that is associated with the phone's owner's personal information? Should someone, other than the true owner, pick up the phone and attempt to login, perhaps after the second failed password entry, this app could engage. [If it's just the true owner being forgetful, then they get an e-mail of themselves looking silly.] If the device is stolen, then the true owner at least has something to go on.
Better still, have the app automatically run as the last thing the device does before a soft-reset. If stolen, I have to imagine that the first thing the thief would do is reset the device. [Again, if it's the owner performing the re-set, no harm done]
Further - Have the GPS send along the location of the device at the moment the picture is taken.

HTC Album incorrectly rotates pictures...sometimes

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that occassionally (and seemingly more and more frequently) pictures that I take with the camera are either incorrectly saved in the wrong orientation or are being displayed in both the TF3D tab and the HTC album in the wrong orientation.
In other words, in HTC Album, when I hold the phone in portrait mode, the picture shows in landscape and when I rotate the phone to landscape, it switches to upside-down portrait mode. It's like chasing your tail! Really frustrating! It also displays landscape pictures in portrait and vice-versa in the TF3D tab as you flip through the photos.
This doesn't happen with every picture, but I can't seem to figure out any pattern that would illuminate the cause of the problem.
Am I alone in this? (I have a Euro Diamond)
You Are Not Alone!!
I have been having the exact same problem, and its becoming more and more frequent!
It is fustrating tho because when you are holding the phone in a portrait position and you have a landscape picture, you instinctively try and the phone sideways to see the picture straight....but this just turns the picture so your looking at it the wrong way again!
Its weird how some pictures arent affected and some pictures which are taken right after the non affected pictures are affected!
try to make sure your device is fully upright, perpendicular to the floor. i have a feeling your g sensors are not calibrated and your devices are confused with odd angles. give 'er a try and post results
Yeah, I've experienced this too.
Are you guys using the Gsen app cos I'm wondering if it's that which is having an effect?
Just in case you don't know, you can edit them so they show the right way round using Pictures & Videos in Programs, just select the offending pic and select edit from the menu, then rotate and then just hit ok in the top right corner once you have it the way you want.
I have this problem and it is very annoying, I have the HTC 1.93 ROM and don't use GSen (at the moment). It would be great to find a solution to this problem.
I think this is just a major design flaw in the HTC picture viewer. It's one of the major reasons I use other software instead.
Having the g-sensor enabled in a photo application is just f*#&ing stupid IMO. It totally fails to handle the fact that people often rotate the camera when they take photos. Most people find it easier to rotate the viewer rather than mess about with image editing ... but when they try, the g-sensor f*#&s it up for them.
It's tragic and funny seeing my friend (who still uses the HTC software) having to bend his neck right the way over to view his own photos. And what is with the inability to change the sorting behavior?!!

I think this might be because when you're taking a picture, you should be holding the phone in landscape mode, when you take a picture in portrait mode your phone will rotate the picture like that.. i ALSO had that problem. try it and let me know
Are you using G-Sen?
If you have had G-Sen on then toggled it off, photos will be in the wrong orientation.
If you do a soft-reset without g-sen loaded, pictures are taken correctly.
Solution: if you are using g-sen, make sure it is toggled on before you take a pic.
That's what i found works for me anyway.
I have the exact same situation. But the photos weren't taken with the Diamond, and I have more than a hundred of those. They are, for the greatest part of it, taken in landscape mode and it thinks they are in portrait mode.
Is there a way to change their orientation massivly ? I mean it would take me a life to rotate them one by one.

Place a very large mass next to the diamond, in order to confuse it about which way is down.
It'll be much quicker to alter the orientation on your desktop pc - but it'll have to be a manual one-by-one job. AFAIK, there's no way to do it automatically because it's impossible for any software to know which way up each photo is supposed to be.
Or just use a better viewer without stupid g-sensor usage.
Edit: Another thought... if you change the orientation of some of your pictures (after taking them) then you'll find that they're out of order in the album because the time/date stamps have changed! 3rd party software really is the way to go! /rant
ok, it's been a month, i just found this thread. i have the touch pro but having the same problem. the htc is calibrated just fine. anyway to fix it? htc is so notorius for bugs, can't believe that one slipped.
any better touch oriented album viewer to replace the htc album app? also, would the camera app know to switch to other album prg or always insist of this damn buggy album prg ?
thanks

G-sensor in Albums

I have a weird thing going on..
When I view pictures using the Albums app and I have the unit sitting upwards, the image displays in landscape.
When I turn the unit sideways, the image rotates back as if the unit was upright.
Without hard-resetting... does anyone have any idea on how to go about solving this??
I am not running gsen, but I did have it installed at one point and it was working very well. Teeter, bubble level, and other tests work great.
Thanks in advance!
have you tried recalibrating it ?
there are a bunch of programs here that might help you do that (e.g. waterlevel)
Are you using GSen while _taking_ the pictures? I found out that some pictures themselves have been taken with the wrong orientation so it's not the album's problem but the pictures'. Try viewing a picture you upload to the phone and see if you have the same problem.
Thanks for the replies.
It was my understanding that the g-sensor wasnt able to be calibrated yet. I have bubblelevel and I used the calibration with that (but not recently).. so maybe that is causing my problem to begin with?
Does waterlevel actually calibrate the g-sensor or just the waterlevel software?
I dont have gsen installed anymore, it was giving me problem and never worked properly.
Okay I just realized something... I actually took the pictures while holding the camera sideways. So it would make sense that viewing the picture while the camera is upright is going to show the image on its side.. and visa versa when the camera is turned.
So is there any way to view a picture in albums with the camera turned on its side, and view a wide picture without having it turn the opposite way?
Try it, youll probably understand a little easier. Basically if the picture was taken wide, and you view it in albums on its side, it flips it the wrong way.
This is a known problem and I already reported it to HTC, not received a reply yet, but I hope they will be updating the Camera program so it takes in consideration the way the device is held when the picture is taken.
This is actually possible but the only one who can do that is the one who owns the source code, thus HTC.
Thanks for reporting on this Scotchy.. Good to know.

HTC Touch Diamond Camera Lag

As you all probably know, when taking a picture with this phone the camera takes about five seconds to actually take the picture after pressing the button. I did a search and read that I could go into the registry and change a couple things, which I did. However, that did not change the capture time. Does anyone know a fix?
its not neccessary to edit the registry, just search around the options
menue->advanced settings
should be the first entry
greets
Thanks but the first entry is the review time after the picture is taken, used to see what the picture looks like. Not what I was looking to change.
Same problem here, 5 seconds of lag, it makes the sound and the people move thinkink that the picture had been taken but oohh surprise .... so I always get a ghost picture LOL
Same here .... Is totally imposible to take a photo ghost-free
can we use another app to take picture? I know that coolcamera works beautifully with my HTC prophet. Does coolcamera work with touch diamond? Anyone tried? Or any better apps for the camera? HTC camera never respond quickly no matter in what devices. I guess we need to replace the HTC camera with something else.
If you have a delay in taking a photo just change the settings using the Advanced Configuration Tool. Under the camera options, capture delay should be disabled, key delay disabled and capture key delay set to zero.
also, try this:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Captparam/
and set
CaptureTimer = 0 (old=5000)
Two more things to do - go into the camera advanced settings (in the camera itself) and turn off the click sounds and set the review time to no limit. With those changes I think I have a working camera here...

I know where click sounds and review time are. But How do i get to capture delay, key delay, ect. I know you said use advanced configuration tool. Does that come on the phone? If so how do i get to it? Or is it only on the diamond. Im new to xda and I dont see a thread for the HTC Touch Pro. Which is the phone im using. So I assume anything in the HTC Diamond threads would work with my phone.
Oh I think i just came across it by mistake while reading through threads
is this what you were talking about that i need to have.

I have advanced config, but under the camera catagory, there is only 'save location' and 'gps photo'.

BUt in the list under camera options it showed capture delay should be disabled, key delay disabled and capture key delay set.
But I saw alot of people saying they messed up there phone playing with settings so i havent installed it yet.
DO you have the new version of advanced config?
Cause i would love to speed up my camera

The Touch pro is the Raphael. Here's an article on Advanced Configuration: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=203
You should check out the tips/tricks at fuzemobility.com as well. The Fuze is a variant of the Touch pro and they're identical except for a few things like a push to talk button...

Download Regedit for HTC or whatever register editor and go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/Captparam/ there you can edit and modify the timer, with all these tricks the camera is working a little bit better, but Im still getting ghost pictures... I give up with this phone ........
to tek: i had the wrong advanced config. the latest one does have all the camera things. and it works. the lag is only probably about a second and a half know.

Problem / Question about Xperia Camera

Hi Guys
From where i can mute /disable the camera shutter sound, its so loud, i want to disable it.
My 2nd question is, whenever i take the picture from Xperia, the camera is so slow in all the means, why is that so? Either i start the camera, it nearly take half minute to get ready, If i take the snap after pressing the camera button, the snap is caputred after around 10-15 second, so for the meantime i have to keep the camera in still positon, otherwise if i move it i get the blurr kind of image.
And in the end if i fortunatley able to get some clear picture, closing the camera or to take another pic, i still have to wait for for 20 seconds.
Is there some software/ patch which can remove these problems? or i will appreciate the guidance of experts.
I am using Xperia( Made in Taiwan), with latest ROM version from Sony Ericsson.
Thanks
Jade
in your camera settings
shutter sound click "snd.1" and change it to off
your camera settings also include various other settings you can change
to make the camera more like you want it
like many people get confused by the while click on screen where you want to have it focus
turning that off would prob help you
maybe all autofocus if you want it to take pictures fast
Rudegar,
Thanks alot the 2nd problem seems to be exactly what you pointed out. I never knew that before ,
But for the first question i asked about that Camera Picture Capture Sound, i am able to found the option for it, but i cannot found the option to mute it, infact i found 4 sounds option over there, and there was no option for "No Sound" or Mute , neither browse option to select any other sound file.
THanks
You can always make an "empty" sound file and replace the default one for the shutter. It is somewhere in the Windows folder IIRC.

HI Mates,
Of late started having problems with my xperia(updated to 3rd version of UK generic rom) Camera.
Everytime i press the camera button to click a photo, the screen turns up blank(dark grey).
I have to do a soft reset everytime i have to snap a pic or take a vid. It stays good for sometime, and iam not sure when the bug steps in.
Is this a know issue, any solution to this please?...
Thanks

The only way I've found is to turn the sound off on the phone, before activating the camera.
Remove any sound on Camera !?!

I am facing the same problem, but it never worked again.
I installed some ROMS such as UnOff and Touch-it. Up to this moment the camera was 100% OK. After that, I installed the original Brazilian Portuguese software and the camera stopped working...
What do I do? DOes anyone had such a problem? How to solve it?
