GPS PHOTO - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

i want to use the GPS OPTION but when i run it from my camera i get the message
"initialing GPS........" and it didnt work.
why?

You need to start up another GPS program first, like Tomtom or CoPilot, then try the gps photo option and it will work

I tried it during my holiday to get it working... If I wait a bit on the initializing it shows a globe with some bars above it in the display.
But if I read out the EXIF tags it doesn't show a location?
Or do I need to boot a GPS app first?

Boot a GPS application, get a fix and then use it.
This way it works flawlessly.

Where can one find this GPS tagging option - I have looked high and low and its not there

You would need to edit the registry first, in order to see that option in your camera.

i'm assuming that you haven't turned on GPS tagging yet...for doing that u need to use some registry editor...search for GPS photo to get the steps needed to do it
and no, GPS tagging doesn't need to have any GPS software running in the background...when u click on GPS photo, the camera program automatically gets ur GPS co-ordinates (provided ur in the open)
these GPS co-ordinates do not however show up automatically in most photo software. the one i tested was opanda iexif reader...which can be downloaded from www.opanda.com
once u start iexif, load up the photo u just took...btw, GPS tagged photos will be saved by default into the 'My POI' folder...u can get to see the co-ordinates and GPS data in the software. Also, there is a lookup option, where u can see the photo location in google maps thru ur browser.
it works for me so far...but i guess there needs to be some program to automate the whole process

if this is a feature of the phone, why is it so hidden?

u gotta put that question to HTC i guess

works fine for me when setting the port to 4 and and baudrate to 4800 in Google maps
In START>Setting>EXTERNAL GPS
I have this setting:
programs (TAB) - DATA PORT GPS: COM4
hardware (TAB) - hardware GPS port: none
- baud 4800
Access (TAB) - Automatic GPS control (DEFAULT)
I set in google map COM4 and baud 4800, but don't work
Sorry, but I've the TYTN II fron 2 days
Use any GPS Application like TomTom to start the GPS and then switch to google maps without closing TomTom. This should work.
Goole Maps doesn't wait always long enough for a gps signal.

Ok, thank to all for reply, now I'll try...
Keep retrying till the gps gets the fix. If you get the fix with another application and then try with google maps, it will be very fast.
SOLVED
Tnx all
All solved!
All default and google maps work perfectly, without open other GPS application!!!
How, exactly, did you solve it?
that's bloody annoying he didnt share the love - i have the same problem!
I noticed that gps doesn't work when you're sitting at home. I've never had it failed on me when I was in the car, specially when the car was moving.
I used google map's and the gps feature to take me through an hour of traffic coming home from work.
GPS
I start up my GPS with GPS Photo to initialize(takes time to load) then open Google Map.
Hope this helps
Will givethe gps foto thing a go - good thinking!
Its amazing after 2 days wifi gps sniffing how many wireless AP there are

Here is what worked for me.
Goto Settings>System>External GPS, use the Kaiser defaults of GPS program port=COM4, Hardware=None, Baud rate=4800, Enable "Manage GPS automatically."
Run quickgps and download the current ephermis ?spelling data. This speeds up the time to first satellite lock.
Go outside, preferably open location with clear view of the sky.
Run gpsPhoto from the Camera app.
Allow a few minutes to obtain first satellite lock.
Once you have a satellite lock you can close the Camera app and open Google Maps and change Menu>Options>Track Location Settings to "Set by Windows". Press the OK left softkey.
Press the Right Menu softkey and select Track Location.
Bingo you should have a Satellite Lock and Google Maps should center on your location.
I only had to do this procedure once as Google Maps now aquires a lock in seconds. The Kaiser gps works better indoors than my 2 previous Blutooth GPS units, I can see which room of my house I am in. As with all GPS devices it works better in an open environment free from reflections from buildings and free from Tree cover. I am really impressed with the Kaiser GPS.
you rock dude
SOLVED
Sorry to all for my tardive reply
I've solved the problem simply without change nothing.
All default, and launcing google maps the gps start automatically (if not, initialize it with any gps software, like tomtom, gps photo, etc).
BUT - IMPORTANT
Google maps function well in open spaces, I tried it in closed, so, don't worked.
In open space, all ok, it's work fine.
N.B. I've an italian version of O.S. :
CE 5.2.1620 (build 18125.0.4.2)
Rom 1.56.408.5
Data Rom 08/28/07
Vers. Radio 1.27.12.11
Vers. prot. 22.45.88.07H
I feel it can help someone.
Thank's to all for your help and interesting

You said something very interesting here...you said you can see which room you're in. How is that? more of a curiosity thing than a useful thing but I guess it could be handy in large buildings (assuming you can get a fix).
Also, FYI, the new Google Maps is much better at waiting for the GPS to fire up. The timeout value is much more forgiving. I've noticed in the new Gmaps, It just works now.

GPS Photos - How?

How do I use a GPS Photo? I see they end up in <Computer\TyTN II\Storage Card\My Documents\My POI> as jpgs but I cant see any location data within the file info? (I have HTC camera 4.08.) BTW I did a search and could not find an answer so pls excuse if it has been covered a million times. Thnx.
Did you look in the exif data for the GPS location?
Yes I did. Nothing there.
But... Co incidentally I just loaded up the Registry Tweak tool and see that my lack of GPS Photo co ordinates is due to the applicable registry switch being off by default. Toggled it to on and I expect it will be fixed now.

Gps POI Images?

Does anyone have the camera working with the gps? I would like to use this feature while hiking. I believe i have the gps working but i dont find any info stored in the Images? Thanks
Im running Alexes 6.1 rom and the latest 6.1 radio 1.64.06.04
Use this
Using any registry editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\ and in the folder P9 change "enabled" from 0 to 1. Now new option GPS Photo will appear in the menu.
When you take a GPS Photo it will store under a folder called POI, in pictures (pictures location depends on what you set it.) Use the attached to open a photo from the POI folder. You will see the GPS coordinates set as extended attributes.
MODs: I found the attached as a freeware when searching google. If it is not please remove, and let me know.
JKO
You can also use KaiserTweak to activate this.

How does the GPS photo mode work on the camera?

I wonder if anyone can help, I've used the GPS photo mode and it seems to be working fine turning on my gps and then taking the photograph. But what happens after that I've looked at the pictures and can't see any gps info and nothing new in the properties. I can't seem to find any help searching in google. After reading this forum for the past couple of weeks I've learnt so much I'm hoping somebody out there can help me
The GPS information is only visible in the EXIF data hidden in the picture. You can access this information with programs like Adobe Bridge, Opanda EXIF and other such programs.
Its not until you start doing something like uploading your picture to the various Geotagging photo sites that it gets interesting. Right now though it seems like the more popular one, Flickr, is having trouble with the Diamond EXIF and it wont work, but some other site might work for you.
Hmmm never thought of using this but it may be nice... Is there a list of sites that support GPS metadata? I have some Picasa albums set up (and uploaded), but I just read about problems with Picasa deleting the GPS metadata?
resco photo manager can do it, plus it open google map with the picture position. It can add the gps position on any picture too.
A nice piece of software.
However, i folowed these steps :
Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P10
set "Enable" to "1
But i doesn't seems to work. Is it another special option to enable ?

Keeping track of travels from Kaiser for others to see

Folks,
I'm currently vacationing in Hawaii (Aloha!) and would like to find an easy to use tool that will allow my family and friends to track me. I'd like to be able to use my Tilt's GPS to track where I've been, upload pictures at locations I've been, and maybe add a bit of commentary for the folks back home.
I've tried wordpress blogging from Opera, but it is really, really cumbersome to upload pictures because the upload utility doesn't display thumbnails--only file names.
Is there another utility that you'd recommend?
Rutilate
Two simple steps...
Step 1: Use the GPS photo option in the phone to take a pic.
Step2: upload the pic to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ and see where you have been in google earth or google maps...
Sometimes the GPS photo takes forever to get a lock by itself so i use GPSTest to get a GPS lock and then switch to the camera.
You can also try Ozi Explorer , this app allows you to show your GPS position in real time on the map (Its called moving map mode, and the map can be a PNG image).
Have fun on your vacation!

Just make sure you use its "Turn Off Screen" mode if possible, otherwise Windows Mobile eventually goes to a deeper sleep and it stops tracking. Not a problem when it's plugged into the charger typically, and when I'm traveling on the road I always just keep the phone plugged in.
You can also use Navizon look in my signature
