HTC Touch Diamond Memory Size, 4gb or 256mb+microSD? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
Last weak i ordered the Diamond and the site said 265mb+ SDCard slot, now it says 4096 mb and no sd card slot. I called them they said it could have been a fault on the site.
On the internet i read different stories, a Diamond with microSD slot and without... Although on the HTC site i only see 1 and that is with the 4 gb internal storage.
I am from holland, maybe there are different versions of the phone and this might help..
Anyone knows if the diamond has only one or both of these 'functions'?
Edit: i'll receive it tomorrow but i got to know if its 4gig or 265mb because i have to sign the contract tomorrow..

When in doubt, trust the manufacturers site - they usually know, what they build into their devices.
Definitely no expansion slot, "just" 4GB internal storage.

The Diamond has 4GB internal memory. The Pro version with the sliding keyboard has a microSD card slot

Ok, i asked about it in the stores too, its true it has 4gb internal memory

2i KILLING SD cards??!!

Hi,
Please note that I know there is a thread at the top about SD card issues, but this post is not about locking up, this post is about 2i killing SD cards, thanks.
I have had my XDA 2i for about 3 months. When I first bought it, I bought a Viking 1GB SD card to use with it. After a month or so, the SD card died. At that time I thought I had a faulty SD card, so I bought another Viking 512MB SD card.
To my horror, it died as well today.
Can't read the cards in any of my readers.
So question is - do I have a faulty 2i? Is it a common problem at all? Or is there a design problem with 2i? Or is the 2i not compatible with Viking SD cards?
It seems like people have great success with the Transcent cards regarding the lock-up issue. So does anyone know whether it is going to solve this "murdering" problem?
Many thanks,
Wayne
I'm sure i have seen this type of post before...but to be honnest i think it might be an isolated case, perhpas its only that brand of card the XDAIIi will "Kill"
Its more than likely that what causes your XDA to kill the Viking SD cards is the same thing that only causes other SD cards to freeze.
So perhaps Viking cards are more sensative to the XDAIIi (pain in the ass) problem.
Hmm... i've had 3 SD cards die on me recently too (a PQI 1GB, a Sandisk 256MB and a Pretec 128MB)... i thought it was just a bizaare coincidence or something but now you come to mention it... :?
I've also had two viking 1gb cards die on me each within a few days of receiving them!!!! I now use a Sandisk Ultra II 2gb card which works great apart from TomTom locking up if I don't turn of the phone radio stack.
I bought a 1gb Viking Card from Ebuyer and after about 2/3 months it dided Just got my replacement so finges crossed
I've had a similar problem with my IIi I went through 2 512Mb unbranded cards from mymemory.co.uk in the space of 3 weeks. The first when screwy and reconfigured itself to be a 30Mb card. The second was completly unreadable. I put it down to me being a cheap-scate and buying unbranded products.
For the past six months I have been running without an SD related hitch (touch wood) using a Sandisk 1Gb Ultra II.
Same here.
The thing is that my 1Gb Viking card only lasted 4 days!!!!
:? :? :?
I want to get another kind of card but i´m no sure what´s the best one out there.
I think I am gonna give Transcend a go...
Viking is definitely a no-no.
Really shouldn't have just gone for the cheapest
Most SD cards have long warranty periods. Get on to either the manufacturer or the retailer and get them replaced. I once had a Sandisk card die on me and it was replaced straight away. Its replacement is still working in my digital camera now.
i too had a kingston totally die on me ,and at the same time i dropped my pda and it went skidding along the foor and was bust ,so i went back to o2 and told a small lie and so got a new 1 as it was only a week old at the time so i never found out if it was the pda or sd card ,i have now had the same sd card for a few months now no problem ...it's a transend
Those SD Card from Viking and Kingston are known faulty with XDA...
I never buy these brands of SD Card..
Try KingMax If U like, it works perfect with mine xda2 and xda2i
I had my 512 Mb Kingston SD card killed with my Alpine too
This is not a city-myth for me anymore..
Hmm... Did not heard something about broking A-Data's card. Now using one 150x 2Gb. No problems at all.
Killing SD cards
Hi
Yep same here 4 cards have been murdered by my XDA11i, a sandisk 256 and a couple of lesser sizes, all worked in my inbuilt laptop card reader till they went in the XDA. Now all i get is this card is write protected and its NOT!..Worse of all it also kills RS MMC out of my nokia 6680 so beware. These cards came brand new and played perfectly in the laptop then a couple of sessions in the XDA and bang This disk is write protected, they will be written to when in the nokia and synced by usb cable but the laptop will not write to them at all..
Getting dissapointed with the XDA11i doing this and constantly freezing looking like time to offload on ebay
Dave
OK MY Replacement Viking from Ebuyer has just died so, The Vkiings are not good for the XDA then.
hi,i popped in here after a freind pointed this out to me.
I have spent the last 3 mths checking out suppliers of sd memory for resale thru my business and most of the brands mentioned here are the ones ive come accross.
however whats not on the packet when you buy these wonders of technology is that they are modified from Rejects off the lines.
they are also modified from 128/256/512 low quality chips.
this means that compression routines have been applied to them to produce a fake formating size.
i found, purely by accident, that if you stick your sd card in a palm pda,it will read off the original manufacturers code which looks like this 0128********,0256*********,0512********* and tru 1 gig are 0000********.i personally have only just(after 3 mths)managed to secure a shipment that has been tested to be true 1 gig.thank god.
just thought this mite help you.
my sandisk died too
Bought a 1G sandisk card and ive only had it for 3months and all im getting with the 2i is a freezing screen.I soft reset at least 10 -20 times a day.Im begining to wonder if something is wrong with the 2i.Sometime the only way to start up normally is removing the card .Can someone please advice me which 1G card works best with 2i.I ve heard the transend work ok..Thanks
3 Solutions for SD cards that don't work anymore in a PDA !
1/ Try to format with your pc or other card reader (like in pc or printer).
2/ Try to format it with PocketMechanic (dowload the free trial)
There are many options : format logical, ntfs, fat, for digital
camera,pda,...
With this tool I could reformat the card and use it again
3/ Buy a Kingston Elite Pro card in future or other with LIFETIME WARANTY
I once had a card that couldn't be fixed from Kingston, it had LIFETIME
waranty! Yess KINGSTON ELITE PRO series offer that. I just posted it
internationally to London's office with RMA nr, and received a NEW SD
Card in plastic! Speaking of service!
Bought this card from an Ebay shop. I don't know how the service is
with other brands, but some have 5y waranty, you can try to return it.
Hope helping ya all!
XDAIIi still is the best, now an XDAIIi with build in GPS Antenna and we have a real all in solution
My XDAIIi might have killed Kingston 512 SD card
hi
I have a XDAIIi purchased about 4months ago.
My XDA IIi is having a lot of problems and it also may have killed my 2 months old kingston 512 MB SD card...
I tried some data recovery softwares but they did not help.
So I brought the damaged SD card to data resucue service but they could not fix data structure of SD card.... saying as below.
I have tested your SD Memory card. The card is certainly faulty. It’s a hardware fault with the memory unit. As s solid state memory ship there is no way to repair this. After further investigation, it appears this problem is very common and reports of the same brand sd card have also been reported on the internet.
I’m sorry but we have no way to extract the data off a faulty SD card like this. The size of the car is defaulting to the factory setting of 2 TB (which is HUGE!!) and other software reports it as a RAW card at 0mb.
Normally if for example the card has been accidentally formatted or the file system has been corrupted we could have easily recover the data but in this case of a hardware fault we have no method to help you. We have tried everything for you. As I told you, it was worth trying. There is no charge to you.

And they suggested me to use less MB Sd card with the pda,
i have two other 256 sundisk SD cards but they seem to be OK.

Hi
Mine froze up repeatable until I found this site and removed my 128 ULTIMA. I then removed my PANASONIC 256 “Hi Speed” (supposedly but does not say what speed on the card) from my camera and all is good so far.

Maximu size SD card XDAIIs

Can anyone advise the max size an SD card can be on the XDAIIs - I am told 1gb but I would like to use 4Gb.
Also will a 4Gb Mni SD work with the appropriate SD apaptor?
Also if larger than 1Gb does work are there only certain brands which work?
Many thanks
Chartreuse
i've got one, and it's working
4 GB works fine.I'm using it.
Hi
I purchased a 2Gb SanDisk card and my IIs refuses to acknowledge it.
I'm currently running a 1Gb eagletech card without any problems.
For those of you with cards > 1Gb, did you have any problems, or need to do anything to make the IIs see it?
Thanks
i am using 2G scadisk, no problem woo...........
Oh, that cheered me up heaps...
Thankfully I've been able to drop it in to my digital camera without any problems...
Also thankfully I got it on ebay for a nice price...
I bought a 2GB SanDisk "ultra II" sd card once and it didn't work on my BA. Returned it to the shop where they said it was probably faulty and I was offered a replacement. They were all out of "ultra II" cards so I got a "normal" SanDisk 2GB card (and some of my money back) which worked.
Unfortunately I never found out if the problem with the first card was a malfunction or the fact that it was an "ultra II" model.
Anyway, since then I've bought a 4GB SD card from Transcend and it works perfectly!
Hi All,
I used 2GB Transcend 150x and it worked perfect

Max Memory Card size?

Anyone know the maximum card size the kaiser/vario3 supports?
I am thinking about getting a 6Gb microSDHC
Got a 6Gb in since Saturday. Works a treat.
32gb max even though it is not available yet.
Essentially, ANY SDHC card available as of today will work in the Kaiser.
Sweet, god this fone roxs, so pleased i didnt get the limited iphone!
I asked HTC about this when I first bought my Kaiser. They told me it would support up to a 4GB micro SDHC. There have been other posts with people who have successfully installed a 6GB card but have found problems when trying to access files and the phone has locked up, so beware.
8G
I have a Sandisk 8Gig in mine... works perfectly.

I think most of that has to do with crappy quality SD cards.
I've never had a problem with any Sandisk card I've had. 1,2, and 4 GB
The reason for HTCs ascertion is simple. At the time of production of the Kaiser the largest SDHC microSD card available was a 4GB card. Therefore, they could only certify that it worked with 4GB cards at that time. And, as far as persons having issues with their phones locking up while trying to read from a 6GB card, I would venture that no matter which card that person(s) was using they would have experinced a similar fate due to whatever it was they were doing at the time.
That said, I have no reason to believe that SDHC cards up to 32 GB will not be fully supported by the WM6 OSes currently being distributed. Furthermore, I anticipate that future revisions of said OSes will equally compatible.
Hi guys,
Sorry to re-hash this thread, just wondering...
I'm about to buy a TyTN II off a friend in work, and wondering if someone could advise me the best card to buy?
I'm a massive music buff, and love my current hermes, however 8GB isn't enough these days, and itching to have more music to beat the iMoan.
So far, some digging has found me this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155755
Would that be suitable for the TyTN II?
Thank you,
I currently have a 8GB Class-4 sandisk card in my Kaiser and it has worked perfectly since I installed it last year. I have some TomTom maps and a load of music and its about 2/3's full. I have been looking for a 16GB but have held off so far. 7Dayshop.com have some 16GB MicroSD cards starting at £32.99 delivered, but these are only Class-2.

According to the information I have, the 8925/Kaiser/Tilt, etc, will support at 32gig microSD card.
From what I've read, the Tilt/Kaiser will support up to a 32 gb, although 16 gb is the largest out.
However, I also read that it will only read at Class 2 speeds. Anyone know if that's actually true? If going to class 6 will give me more speed, I'd definitely go for that when I upgrade my card, but if not, there's no reason to pay more for it.
Anyone know when the 32 gb cards are supposed to come out?
Always buy a Name Brand Card and From a Reputable Dealer and you won't have any problems.
There are a lot of nefarious people out there that trick 2GB cards to act like 8GB cards and by the time you find out, because of locking up and data corruption they are gone with your cash. Don't cheap out when it comes to your data.

8 GB Micro SD Card works too in my Touch Dual

And, SanDisk also provides a USB reader (looks more like a very cheap version of an USB Stick...
I paid around US $ 150

Same brand but 4 GB, works like a charm

Just thought I'd add that I purchased an 8Gigabyte ScanDisk Card (with USB adapter) for just over £50 (GBP) - $100 (US) and it work like a dream - no access delay and just under 8GB of available space.
I've also heard that ScanDisk are due to release a 16GB version in early 2008?

Hey,
did you need any software update in order make an 8GB card running on XDA STAR. I'm just coming from an O2 store and they gave me an extract of a spreadsheet were they listed the xda star under 2GB max. storage devices.
Any comments?
Cheers,
Yves
I bought the SanDisk Card, just pop it in and everything is set.

It didn't work in my HTC Touch Dual!
I bought a 8GB Sandisk Micro SDHC card... put it in my Touch Dual... and bam... No more than 2GB.
How can that be?

eh? that's worrying, I've an 8gb one coming this week!
8GB Sandisk working perfectly in my Uk T-Mobile Touch Plus. No issues seen at all with it.
Well... My problem here is... Is it the Flash Card that is ****ed up or is it that I have the only Touch Dual in the whole world that doesn't have the capabillity to read 8gb Micro SDHC cards.
I have used a storage tool program to figure out the cards specs(Computer can't read it through the SD adaptor for some reason) and here is what i got:
Total: 1.8 GB
Type: Fat16
Sector Size: 512 Bytes
Cluster Size: 32 KB
For what I know, this should be a Fat32 because Fat16 can't have storage space beyond 2 GB.The rest I don't know because I haven't researched this enough to get a science degree. I have tried to format the card to Fat32 with several Cluster Sizes with no result in getting a bigger storage space.
At some point this seems like a 2GB but on the outside it looks clearly like an 8GB card. So if this is a fake, then it is a pretty damn good one.
What do you think?
slight aside, but madly, i have to pick the card up from the post office depot - how BIG can that parcel be??!!
I've been using an 8GB Sandisk card in my Niki (borrowed from my Kaiser) for a week now. Works fine ...
yup, finally got mine, and no issues!

You have to format the card at FAT32, which goes at 32 Gb. With FAT16 you only see 2Gb.
I don't know if you can do this format in the HTC, otherwise you'll need a new reader for sdhc-cards.
Thank You... I got a New SDHC reader/writer and formatted the card with the Panasonic SDformatter from a link through this forum. It worked and I now have my delicious 8GB storage in my Touch Dual.
Never seen such beautiful 8GB in my life
8Gb works in mine as well
Hows the speed when accessing aps on the 8 gig? is it just as fast as using a 1 gig?
in light of this topic, could you guys suggest anything for this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383791
Oh well no answers, anyway, my 8gb is here and is working very well
Oddly enough, I'm having problems even with 1 and 2 gig cards. Or rather with active sync, not detecting them. I can't transfer files directly to storage card folder via activesync, I have to either transfer to the device first and then from the device to the card, or transfer directly to the card after taking it out of the nike..
It might be something simple, anybody has any ideas how to solve this? Searched for quite a long time and couldn't find anything..
It's an orange brand niki if that changes anything, btw.
well if any 1 wants to save i found a 8 gig for 37.99 plus shipping

would a 16GB SDHC memory card work for TYTNII?

Thinking of buying this 16GB SDHC memory card.

But I dont wanna throw away money..so..
is the TYTNII a SD (ver. 1.0, 1.1) device? (if so then it will not recognize SDHC cards (>4GB))?
Does anyone know if this works with TYTNII (pratically, not theoretically)?
Has anyone used this or the 12GB one?
Thanks

The problem is how to fit it in your Kaiser ?
Cause this is not a micro SDHC card
While I don't know about the SD version on the Kaiser, I can tell you it reads 8GB SDHC cards. So if your 1.0, 1.1 versions only recognize under 4GB then the Kaiser is obviously using a later version.
Not sure on what you are going to pay for that size card... you can get an 8GB for under $50 which might be a smarter move until the others come down in price.
dang thats the price of my tilt
btw our phone support up to 32gb

LOL good point, i didn't even follow the link to see that. I thought that SDHC was only micro cards...but then again I don't own any other devices that use these so i never researched them.
So, to the OP the size should work...but make sure you get a micro!
the card u posted in ur link will NOT work becase it doesnt suppot SDHC...u just simply cant put it inside ur phone...
It does Fit into the phone, what you see in the link is the exterior part of it. The smaller card is in the inside (fits underneath the one shown).

Actually, the links provided are SD cards, not Micro SD. The picture is not a Micro SD to SD converter, it's just an SD card. Micro SD to SD converters do not show the size of the card on them
So in conclusion, no, the product(s) in the links you provided will not fit in the kaiser, and therefore will not work. However here in the UK, we can expect to see 16GB Micro SDHC on the 31st May. See here

Sorry My bad then..
Anyway now that thats sorrted out, my question still stands
Memory limit
One of HTC tech support guys basically told me that if the microSDHC card says SDHC that the Kaiser (or the Tilt he was referring to seeing as I was talking to him about my phone) will support it...and I believe he mentioned up to at least 128gb memory capacity or something. One other poster in this thread mentioned 32gb...
Now for reality, at the time of my purchase of the Tilt Nov 2008, Sandisk was the first to make 8gb microSDHC (okay others announced it too), and the time from their announcement of 8gb being put on their website at $139.99 in Nov 2007 or so.....to the availability on amazon in roughly January or Feb 2008 at 139.99....to the current amazon price of roughly in the $50 range by March/April 2008.....to the realization that very few other memory manufacturers have released 8gb microSDHC cards.......makes one think that by the time any amazing company makes anything substantially bigger than 8gb, AND releases it to market at a price I'm willing to pay for.......By that time...I and probably many of us, will have bought a newer phone with proper drivers...that the limit of memory size of microSDHC for the kaiser will be a memory.
In others words, 8gb microSDHC is the largest you will find today (most likely), and the phone will handle much more than that in its product lifetime. Buy with confidence that your kaiser in April 2008 can handle any microSDHC product available in April 2008.
Hope this helped.
thanks nicely put
come on dude you put up a link for an sdhc memory card you need a MICRO SDHC MEMORY CARD. Also I thought all th Tytn II could use the high capicity cards...are you sure you don't have a TYtn-one.

This is true, by this thread is 6 months old also . Have a look at the date!
I'm buying the 8 GB MicroSDHC tomorrow. My 2 GB is already completely full!!
The SanDisk 16GB microSDHC works just fine in the Tytn II -- I've been using one for about a week now. I don't notice any speed difference between it and my old class 4 8GB card.

That sounds awesome!!! I haven't seen the 16gb ones yet. How much do they go for?
I live near a Microcenter
so the 8G Microcenter version went on sale for 34 Bucks..thats right! Now the SANDISK 8G is a little bit more expensive but they are the same class SDs. I have the Microcenter version running right now in my Tilt with only 2Gs left...I'll probably try and get the SANDISK 16G but I might even wait to see if Microcenter comes out with their own 16G which generally is cheaper than Sandisks.

I've seen them in the range of US $75-100. I paid $98 for mine -- they were the only US supplier I could find that had them in stock.
