MDA compact IV official rom update? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Just called t-Mobile trying to get my handset replaced, I was told they are working with HTC and release a new software update. I guess this means a new ROM grade? Hopefully radio upgrade as well.

I have been very tempted to flash using a cooked rom, but there is a slight issue with me screen, a ghosting effect. Doesn;t affect the phone just a bit annoying. Just incase i need to send it back, that's why i haven;t flashed it yet.
I'll wait for the offical ROM release, see if this fixes my phone issue.

Anybody have some official news?
Normally TMob are notoriously slow at releasing new ROMs!

yea my MDA is slow and lacks long battery life but i'm scared to flash a cooked wrong as i've never done it before! I'm pretty into this stuff anyway (flashed ipod touch [+ dev for it] and my psp etc) so i know the basics, but is it really risk free, apart from the obvious stupid things?

Fella.. to be straight with you... HTC and T-Mobile SUCK when it comes to Roms.... They will NEVER beat what the guys from xda do with these Roms...
Try either Panosha "shine 1.6" with radio 08 or bepe's with the same radio ROM
you will be totally shocked with how fast these guys cooked Roms are...!
P.s And yes i do own a MDA iv on t-mobile...! and believe me the stock Rom SUCKS..!

Tmobile are planning a rom upgrade any day, the compact iv is actually out of stock beacuse the latest batch has been sent back to have the rom applied, so its doubtful you would get an exchange done in the next couple of days anyway.
Normally tmobile drag their heels with rom upgrades but I think the level of returns has meant that they need to do something and quick.
I'm on my 3rd compact iv but exchanging has been a nightmare as the exchange kept failing due to low stock, so chances are if you went for an exchange now you wouldnt get the handset replaced for a week or 2.
Hopefully the rom upgrade will fix your problems. You can of course flash a rom from here which are so much better, but some like to stick to the stock rom for warranty reasons.
For more info see this thread over at modaco I spoke to tmob for over 30 mins to get this info from them so Imm really hoping rom upgrade will be soon : http://www.modaco.com/content/diamond-diamond-modaco-com/271679/t-mobile-mda-compact-iv-recall/

Guys as i mentioned in above post... YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET A BETTER ROM from t-mobile or HTC...!
Look for a cooked Rom from XDA follow the install instructions and you wont go wrong..! and you will be VERY VERY VERY happy you purchased an MDA iv...!

I hate to disappoint you but that isn't true. There is no Compact IV ROM update in development. The next time you see a ROM update for this device it will be Windows Mobile 7, if at all.
Upgrades and warranty exchange stock are seperate entities, and the returns of the Compact IV are not really much higher than the average with any other phone.
Strange how you're on your third considering their' policy is to repair following the first exchange.

I have only used two cooks Rom, Panosha and bepe's. I personally thinks these two guys are the best cooks.. (some may disagree)
Look for Panosha "Shine on 1.6" and use with radio 5 or 8
Look for bepe's rom if i remember its called "belite" again use with radio 5 or 8.
Also remember use MUST use a hardspl rom before flashing radio and main Rom.
Believe me fella you wont get a stock Rom running faster than these two cooks mentioned above...!
Good luck and ENJOY...!
P.s Don't forget to buy the guys a beer...!

Hello there.
I have just got myself a MDA Compact IV...I do like it, however....
I am aware there is some issues with speed and battery life, I also know that a rom upgrade will do the trick.(this is where i get a bit stuck.
What i need is where do I get the information and downloads to do this.
This might be a stupid question but please could someone point me in the right direction.

Goto diamond rom development...
Im currently using Panosha "shine 1.6" probably one of the best cooked roms..
you need to read up before you flash....
First off you need a Hardspl rom......
2nd you need to change your radio rom to either 05 or 08
3rd choose your cooked rom
P.s PLEASE do your research before carrying out any rom upgrades.....or you will BRICK you Mobby

Thanks for the info mate,

Do you have insider information? Since HTC already have a new ROM for the diamond, i guess it would be fairly straigh forward for T-Mobile to adopt this and customize to the horrible pink colour!

Cingular MSFP soon !!! ROM 2.23.11.1

Just a teaser for everyone..sorry cant post the rom yet because i dont have it yet. But expect it soon.
Anymore info?
yea, like a2dp? push? carmen electra spash screen?
you tease. when can we expect this holy grail?
Hopefully soon. I am trying to convince the guy that gave me those pic to send me the rom now.
I take it this is an official Cingular ROM?
Yes..!!!
Ummmmm.....where is it?
I want it!!
If someone really gets their grubby little hands on it, could they please try to test whether the device will vibrate on the receipt of email while in standby?
Can't wait for this to finally come out - and then for some of the creative folks here to cook up an even better version of the ROM
AMG
Since Cingular has waited so long I'm hoping they have implemented AKU2.2 instead of the standeard AKU2.0. That way we can change the stupid battery icon back to time.
Hopefully we will see something today.

Just wishful thinking, I like to think positive about this stuff.
Also, I have an addiction of re flashing my wizard. It has been a while since I've had an excuse to put a new ROM on it.
It would be nice to have it to play with.
And I'd like to get ahold of it to build some custom ROMs. I suspect Cingular is close to pushing it out..

No A2DP eh? Well we know how easily that can be remedied.. ;-)
question:
is there really reason to believe that CID unlocking the stock Cingular 8125 will cause a problem or prevent the installation of this 'official' ROM update?? That is, will all the folks here who have flashed with summiter's 2.17 ROM be unable to flash with the official 2.23? I read that mentioned as a possibility. I don't get it... pleas explain why this might be the case, and if so, can the device be re-CID locked to allow 'official' updates to be applied?

I don't expect it will be an issue, primarily because Cingular would have to create, or rather ask HTC to create, a mechanism that no other carrier or reseller has. That sort of thing costs money and time, and I don't see a big enough motivator.
Also, it would be trivial to tear open the new ROM and remove the carrier ID.
As for CID unlocking, if you saved the output files from aWizard, you can re-lock the device.
I'm sick of this teasing......

Changing Orange ROM.

Quite new to all this and have spent time with search, so please don't shout at me!
I still own a Tytn which I've been very happy with speed wise. Orange have sent me a Tytn ii now which i think is a great machine, however the lag and speed issues are really getting to me now. I understand that Orange are not the best when it comes to customising these phones and as a result is one of the main reasons it runs so slow. I spoke to Orange tech today and they said i wouldn't invalidate my warranty if i changed the ROM. Will it get this phone moving to a usable speed? I love the functions of this phone (GPS, keyboards better, BRIGHT screen! etc..) but the speed is taking the p*#s now.If anybody can recommend a good ROM (?) that would be great. Any help gratefully received.
hi and welcome to the forums. you can start your upgrading by reading through this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
i can tell you that basically any cooked rom will give you a speed improvementover a shipped rom. i'm not gonna give any suggestions, there's just too many different personal preferences when it comes to choosing a rom, just read through this and the upgrading forums....you will see many opinions, probably someone whould even post their opinion here too. good luck

I very much doubt that! I bet they wouldn't put that in writing.
Afaik orange don't release rom updates and how could they support your device with some other rom on it?
Either way, I couldn't care less about it voiding the warranty, the stock orange rom is pants. I've never looked back since flashing a cooked rom.
As already mentioned, there are too many roms to say which is the best, it's a personal thing.
I personally like Duttys v4 (eek! looks as sig and realizes its waaay out of date, been running v4 for a while now), its quick, reliable and just generally feels nice.
"I very much doubt that! I bet they wouldn't put that in writing."
I asked the chap today and he said "because you had the phone direct from Orange we would repair or replace even if customised" I did say " are you SURE about that and he said yes. Having said that, every time i speak to them about anything they contradict each other! Ive been with them a long time and because I'm a heavy user they generally treat me right. I hope he was right, i did ask him for his name and i logged the time of call so hopefully if it does screw up I've got some comeback. Thanks for the quick replies.

There is a big jump from "customisation" which to them probably means not using the crappy orange home to flashing a new rom.
my 2p worth.
I specifically said i want to change the ROM. He said OK. Sod it, its next to useless anyway with their crap software. If i brick it I'll "accidentally" drop it into the bath and let my home insurance get me a new one.

Just be sure to read and sock in all of the guides, then theres very little chance of bricking it
Well, I took the plunge, but as a nessesity rather than option.
I'm with TMobile and they wanted £180 for the upgrade plus put up my tariff £10 per month (was on 25% for life plus £10 loyalty discount) so effectively upgrade would cost £320.
Got a new Orange 12 mnth contract and phone for £70. Other half now has 12 month orange contract sim rather than PAYG, and I followed the sim unlock and flashed Duttys 6.1 ROM with 3 days of getting the phone. Orange phone looks much better than Vario 3 too.
Just follow the instructions to the letter and you won't look back!
Cheers for everyone's help! Much appreciated. Now, does anyone know why slide to unlock pretty much messes my phone up???!!! Orange ROM causing the problem?? I get the main screen but the slider doesn't slide and then i just get a blank screen!
If you are up for flashing a new rom... then don't muck about with applications yet.
Read up. Flash the correct SPL, then choose a rom, flash it (and simunlock if its a 6.1 rom as you need a 6.1 compatible radio) and then use it for a couple of days and see what you like.
If you dont like the new rom - flash another... It can become quite addictive!

Duttys Roms

Hi all,
Sorry to be so demanding in my first couple of posts but I have another quick question. I currently have a Vodafone v1615 on which I am considering installing Duttys latest ROM but had a couple of quick questions of someone could help me:
Does this and other ROMs work fine with non-standard HTC Kaisers (for example the vodafone branded v1615?
Do I need to take a backup of my current ROM incase the phone develops a fault in the next 12 months and if so how do I go about this?
Finally, I have installed quick a few ROMs and have the phone setup how I like it but cant help being tempted by the increase of speed offered. Is it really that much of an improvement over standard roms?
Thanks,
Michael

You could search the Stickys and The WIKIs. They cover all your answers. And Is it an improvement over Standard ROMs. Hell to the Yes. I won't want to use a Stock ROM.
P.S. I hope its a typo But When you say you installed a few QuickROM i think you meant CABs. Good to know the difference here.
u can always flash it back to stock in case anything goes wrong
I can't comment on the V1615, but I had a V1605 (Hermes) and that unlocked (CID and SIM) fine and I tried every rom going without problems. There are also quite a few posts from people with the V1615 so I think you're ok. Anyway, as bapssystupr3m3 says, you can always return to stock rom.
I'm using one of Duttys ROMs on my v1615 and i wouldnt dream of going back, its a huge improvement

Why Do I Want to Update My Tilt's Rom

Other than changing the look of the ui, give me a good reason to update it.I already got rid of all the bloat and crapware.
I have now on my Tilt:
rom version 1.62.502.0
radio version 1.27.14.09
And isn't AT&T going to release a wm 6.1 update anyway? So what is the point?
cause you original rom sux. there's been posts in the past, i dont know if you can find it, but if you do........just see the benchmarks comparing a shipped rom to a cooked rom.

With that attitude there is no point. You can now leave the forums.
Flashing ROMS is about getting every drop of power and speed out of your device if you have a lackadaisical attitude then its not for you.

I apologies if my post appeared to have attitude. I just spent the past hour going through the hundreds and hundreds of posts about different roms and wanted to get someone to give me the befor and after facts.
I did see the post where the after was benchmarked against an ipaq, I believe, but i don't know how a stock one compares.
Again I don't mean to have an attitude....
All is forgiven.
I don't know if anyone has benchmarked the Stock ROM w/ Bloat. But On pure feeling I'm glad I flashed to a Different ROM. And Dutty's Has improved upon itself Exponentially. I can't stress how much better the Device just feels after getting off of a Stock ROM.
Do I need to worry about my radio version?
I used to ask my self the same questions, finally one day my friend got a tilt and dropped a cooked ROM on his phone. We compared speeds side by side and it was amazing the speed difference. Needless to say I went directly home to flash my ROM

Yes since certain radios only work for 6.1 roms which requires downgrading 1 or the other or sticking with 6.0 rom with 6.0 radio and same for 6.1.

newer roms and radios really help with performance of certain needed services like gps. I tested with and without custom roms and only 3 satellites with original rom and 7 or more satellites connect with newer rom

O2 are currently in test with the new ROM for the Stellar which will be WM 6.1. This should be released in the next month or so. Unfortunately we cannot provide you with a specific date for when it will be placed on your website for download due to confidentiality.

Is it worth upgrading for WM6.1? There seem to be differing opinions on the HTC ROM upgrade.
The O2 ROMs seem to be quite good and most complaints are due to the disappointment of the updates not including decent graphics drivers.
I will most likely upgrade mine.

oh! next month or so..this is great news! finally 6.1 for my bottle of ...ehem, for my o2 stella.
This is great, I've been on their site at least 2 times a week for the past month searching to see if they have brought out an update.
Well it's now July...anyone got any more news on this? I too keep checking the O2 software updates website. I have also tried emailing them but they didn't respond to me.
Just last week there was a flurry of Vodafone and T-Mobile updates for their branded kaisers, so I'd expect something v. soon.
As far as 6.1 goes, it's very good IMO, although some of us have experienced poor GPS performance on first fix.
Just had a look on their site and it's available to download.
Downloading now and will update later. Hopefully it'll work ok.

Indeed...everything is wiped and all the data too.
I used SPB Backup which worked well in the end. I made a few mistakes during the restore process that made it much more of a time consuming headache than it should have been but I think I got back to where I want to be. Ringtone assignments and contact picture assignments were not restored but that may have been my error rather than the fault of the software.
I have a question though...next to the O2 task manager bubble at the bottom of the today screen is a new flashing icon that looks a bit like a Bluetooth symbol...anyone have any ideas what this is? I have tried clicking on it but nothing happens.
Also, apart from the threaded SMS (which I am excited about having gone from a Treo 650 to the Stellar), what other delights does WM 6.1 provide?!
