Hard Reset not working - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I can't seem to hard reset my Diamond.
I turn it off, hold the volume down and round button, then press reset with the stylus, and nothing happens.
Anyone got any ideas?

Keep the volume down, and circular button pressed in for a couple of seconds after you have released the reset button?

yep, diddly squat, I'm going to charge it up some more because it was at about 50%.
Maybe flash hardSPL again?
The phone's fine I just wanted to wipe it because it's cluttered.

Can try clear storage program if you can't get hard reset to work.

doesn't that wipe internal storage too?

Well upping to HardSPL 1.34 didn't fix it, and neither did having the battery above 50%
The buttons work when the phone is on, why in gods name aren't they working when it's off? sigh

Its give the option to clear storage or internal storage or both.

Maybe you read the WIKI for the Diamond (there you were supposed to perform a hard reset with the phone turned OFF - in the meantime I've changed it to ON). Just switch the phone ON and follow the instructions from here.
And about the internal memory - it is not wiped out unless you choose to.

I don't know if this is the case, but I was having exactly the same problem and could not perform a hard reset no matter how much pressure I put on the buttons, until I removed the screen protector that came with the device. Now it works on first try.

hard reseting

ive noticed that when i hard reset/flash my diamond it erases the internal storage..
2 questions:
1. is this normal? does it happen to anyone else?
2. if it is normal does anyone know how to stop it from flashing the storage?'
thanks
After pushing the volume down+enter+reset button (to initiate a hard reset) the device clearly asks you to
- push volume up to go back to manufacturers default
- push volume down to go back to manufactureres default and reset the .... (forgot what's it called). The "...." is another name for the internal storage.
Some logical thinking should have answered that.
im sorry i didnt mean hard reseting i meant flashing a new rom.
then it didnt ask me.
I have flased a new rom 3 times now but the internal storage (the 4GB) is not erased. Only the storage 85MB and program memory 113MB are changed just as with the hard reset.
this is easy to overcome with a backup.
Ermm how do you do a hard reset??...following the manual, ive held down the volume down button and the middle navigation button...pressed the rest button on the phone and all it does is a soft reset...either im doing something wrong or the manual is telling me to do it the wrong way...
Any help??

Hard reset problem

Can anyone help me out, I am trying to hard reset my phone, but what am I doing wrong?
My phone is turned on
I press volume down botton and enter round botton.
there after i press reset
I keep pressing the other 2 bottons
Still nothing happens, the phone restarts, but no hard reset!!!
I have 1.37 rom with unasigned hard spl. But I do not have any usb cable here at my work.
Help help help
Are you pressing and releasing the reset button? You need to hold it down until the device boots.
I had the same problem as well...couldnt get it to hard reset so i went through the settings list and did it through there.
Click on start, go to settings, then click on clear storage..choose clear storage and format internal storage...enter 1234 and then click on ok...when it asks to confirm press yes and once done it will then clear everything and reset the phone back to the way it was when you first got it.

Still isn't doing that...
Should I press volume down botton and enter botton when the phone is in windows?
Keep all three pressed down dont release the reset button ... It will go through , well did for me as I noticed it did the same thing to me. I only released once the screen had changed to the options for format
Or why not do the hard reset as i described earlier?? lol..much easier and dont have to worry about pressing 3 buttons at the same time

Ok well you do realise even with the way ive said to do it, you dont have to wipe your internal storage??..you have the options of clear storage only...format internal storage or clear storage and format internal storage.
If your going to do a hard reset with the way your trying to do it...you will lose all your info on your internal storage...so it doesnt make any difference does it??. Your still going to lose all your sensitive info doing it the way your trying to do it ie hold volume button down, press center button then press reset button and release the reset button whilst holding down the other 2 buttons.
Not sure whether this helps, but I also had the back of the device removed when I did a hard reset via the button method.
Sounds like Spawn's solution might suit you better though.
excuse me if im wrong as i dont own a diamond (waiting for the pro to decide) but doesnt the stylus have to be removed or something like that to hard reset. maybe thats the issue? I think i read that somewhere.
Again, not sure but try with the stylus in or out or something :S

That's certainly the case on the Diamond as the reset button is beneath the stylus.
I have the same problem. I'm using TruxT rom. Cannot perform a hard reset. I hold the Volume Down, Center, Press Reset with the stylus in my hard and hold it until the device reset but... no "hard reset screen". It's annoying.
I've installed the HTC Scrolling cab from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343313) and since that my touchscreen don't work at all. There's only the D-Pad and all the hardware buttons that work.
I've read that simply uninstall this app will fix the problem but theres another problem. When I connect my phone to my computer, I'm force to connect it as an "external drive" because it's the way it was connect last time I did it. I cannot change the setting to "Active sync" when "Connect to pc" window appears using the hardware buttons so I'm stuck with a huge headache now. lol
Is there a way to force ActiveSync to detect my phone when I plug it ? My goal is to uninstall this app using ActiveSync instead of performing a hard reset. Anyway, it seems I can't do it.

Problem: Issue of trying to do hardreset on ATT TILT

I messed around with the phone (ATT TILT with stocked ROM) tonight. After installed a 3rd party app and it booted itself (seemed like a normal procedure). However, it just hangs on the Windows logo screen and it never gets to the Today screen.
I tried to perform a hardreset by holding both soft-keys and hit the reset button; it just does not work.
I have tried more than 20 times and no luck.
I am not sure what to do about it. Would I be able to flash the fresh ROM (stocked) and bring the phone back to live?
thanks in advance.
If you device is not CID unlocked (i.e. no HardSPL) then you'll have to flash a carrier ROM. You should be able to do this from the Bootloaded screen. i.e. Hold Down Camera and Reset. Once at the tri-colour screen just run the RUU program.
Also, with hard reset the steps I take are: hold down left and right softkeys (above IE and messaging button) for a second or two and then press and hold reset with the stylus until the message appears. Then press Green to hard reset.

The hard reset is notoriously hard to do, especially with big fat (muscular ) fingers. I use two pencils or chop sticks. Make sure that both soft keys are held down at the same time firmly, then do the soft reset . If you do it right a white screen with a warning should pop up telling you to press send to proceed. If this window doesn't pop up let go regroup and try again.
It always takes me several times to get a good press on those soft keys.

@denco7 isn't start>settings>system>Clear Storage the same as doing a hard reset?? If not, what's the difference between the two methods (just curious)... This is much easier than the usual method...

They are more or less the same. I have searched for the differences before, I found a few threads discussing it, but I don't think anything conrete was discovered.
The OP cannot get into Win Mo however, thats the problem

It is the same, but in order to do a clear storage, you have to be able to access your settings menu, he cannot

[solved] Does anyone know how to hard reset X2?

I can't find any info about hard resetting X2 anywhere... Isn't it possible on this phone? I need to reset the user code...
Edit: Solution was to update the phone with SEUS. It lets you reinstall firmware even though you already have the latest (unlike normal SE phones).
While the phone is powered down:
- Push the two front skinny buttons down simultaneously
- While doing that, *briefly* press the power button (ie don't press and hold it)
- When the screen with instructions comes up, you can stop pressing the skinny buttons
- Follow instructions - basically press 'r' on the keyboard when it asks
EDIT: My bad -- thought question was about X1
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, that does not work - it just boots up normally.
Have you tested this yourself? Is the SE logo supposed to show up?
And the "skinny buttons" - are those the call/hang up buttons? Are there four buttons on the front, or only two? (i mean, is there a button both above and below the short line sticking out, or are they just one button?)

theres a small pin hole on the back under the battery cover. top left just under the camera. seem to remember reading in the instructions that its some kind of hard reset. not sure if it will do what you require. youll need a pin or tiny screwdriver...

I've already tried holding the two buttons while pressing it (like on X1), but that doesn't work. And the instructions manual says nothing about hard reset - only soft reseting using this hole.
The closest thing i have found is this article about hard reset:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/detailed/toperformahardreset/x2/xperiax2?lc=en&cc=en
But the problem is that it misses the only essential thing: how to do it...
I think the only known way is: settings\system\clear phone memory. It resets the phone to factory default. The button in the whole is only a soft reset button like in case of X1.

But my problem is that i can't start up the phone. When booted, it just brings up a numberpad. I assume it's asking for a personal code, but it doesn't say anything (that must be a bug!), and there's nothing happening when entering a code and hitting OK. So it's hard to know what it really expects me to do...
I'll try to update the software using SEUS, if that's available for this phone model.

clear phone memory definately restores to factory default. i bought my phone on ebay so used that setting when i first got it. took about half an hour while it reset everything and completely re-installed all the software.
doesnt really help in this situation though. yes you can update via SEUS, the X2 is one of the first ones that come up on the sony update software. but if youve got the latest firmware update i dont think it will let you do anything. it will just say no newer update found and exit.
have you tried starting it with and without a simcard? daft question but is it unlocked? maybe you have wrong network simcard. that can sometimes bring up a keypad on some phones.
if its definately unlocked to any network did you try the standard lock codes?
i.e 1111 or 111111 or 1234 or 123456
I downloaded SEUS, and it let me update the phone even though it already had the latest firmware. Now everything works fine!

KOVS100 or KOVS110?

Someone please help me. I have installed HARDSPLV1 and everything appeared to be working, but every time I put a ROM on my storage card as Kovsimg.nbh and enter the bootloader tricolor screen it just says
KOVS100
SPL-0.72.OliNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
then Serial in the white part
then it says Loading...
No Image File!
What am I doing wrong? I have tried 2 different sd cards and 2 different ROMS with the same result. Someone please help if they can!
Have you unchecked "hide extensions of known files types" in Folder Options and made sure it isn't 'kovsimg.nbh.nbh' ? (I've seen this case, back a few months ago.. the creator of the thread never listened though)
What is the filesize of the rom you've placed onto the SD card(s)?
What was the filename+extension of the file before you renamed it? ruu_signed.nbh or was it some .zip or .rar?
There's other causes of this error, but just making sure the fundamentals are done correctly
Thanks to the above poster for offering his help^
However, I got it working, the problem was I didnt format the storage card with FAT32 prior to putting the Kovsimg.nbh file on it. I discovered you DO NOT need a card reader to do this on your PC. The X1 can act as a card reader when you set the option to disk drive select the disk drive in my computer after connecting the device and Format it with FAT32 there.
One thing though worrying me, I was not able to do a hard reset after installing the ROM onto my device, I tried depressing the two silver buttons while also depressing the power button and waiting for hard reset prompt to appear, but the device simply botted up as normal. Although, everything seems to be working fine without the hard reset. Any advice?
a hard reset is holding those silver buttons on the front and the button at the back of the phone, take off the metal cover and take out the stylus and you will see a circle, stylus covers it the button, hold that button too with the silver ones when on.
Oh word. well I was going by what BioVolt said in his tutorial... he said hold down both silver buttons and power button... but what you said makes sense since that didnt work,
Do you think I should hard reset the device even though the ROM has already been set up and everything seems to be working smoothly?

Even I had this problem of hard resetting my X1 initially while flashing ROMs. Then I found out that the trick lay in pressing down the two silver buttons and pressing the power button and the moment the phone gives the initial vibration, to release the power button. This way, you would be able to get into the hard reset screen. Try this and see.
And yes, I think a hard reset is advisable.

If your ROM is set up and working properly, then there is no need of a hard reset.
I usually flash through the SD Card method. After successful flashing message is displayed, I restart the phone and immediately perform a hard reset. Hope this helps.
^ thank you. Originally when I got the successful flashing message, I took the battery out and tried to do a hard reset. To this day, it hasnt allowed me to do one. instead of going the the hard reset prompt, the device always just boots up normally. Ive tried all different ways, hard reset by holding the two silver buttons and power button, and by holding the two silver buttons and just pressing the power button, hard reset by holding the reset button behind the batterycover with stylus and holding the silver buttons. All the same thing, just get the Sony Ericsson screen and the device starts up. I have spikegotti X1.5 6.5 ROM btw.
