Call of Duty 2 PPC Working - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Just downloaded Call of Duty 2 PPC, installed it to the memory card and can confirm it runs close to perfect.
You will need to start the game with the keyboard open and once started enter into the configuration and flip the screen so you play with keyboard.
You need to remap the keyboard direction key and I found increasing the screen sensitivity a little helps too.
There are a few minor issues though:
1. Sound is a touch wavy
2. Now and again you get the picture taking a 1 second pause in but not that annoying.
I should think disabling TouchFLO would stop these happening.
3. Some of the other keys don't map correctly, but I think this can be corrected if we play around with the config files
You can get Call of Duty 2 PPC from here.
Enjoy

Does it run in hardware accelerated mode with the Diamond hack?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428703

All I've done is download the COD2Setup.exe installed to the memory card and ran it.
Just uploading a video to youtube now
Not sure how to confirm if its running from the hardware drivers.
The next thing I was going to do was load GLBenchmark, but again never used it before.
Once the video is uploaded play it and you'll see a reddish header above the "Mission 1" description just after the screen where I select the game level "Easy"
Now looking at the quality of it and comparing it with Duke Nukem and Quake 2 on my old Kaiser I would be sure it is using the hardware drivers.
If you've got any tips on how I can check let me know

it has to run.. i posted the quake 3 accelerated version for the diamond also in this forum to see if you guys can get it to run on the raphael, most probably yes, it will work much the same as the diamond.
so you just have to follow the original cod2 thread in the diamond forums to get cod2 fully accelerated on the raphael hehe

Video uploaded
Call of Duty 2 PPC on HTC Touch Pro ( Raphael )
GLBenchmark to follow

The games should run smoother on the Raphael because it has about 100 extras megabytes of ram Btw, I´m a happy owner of the Raphael.
OP-> Did you just install it and then it worked? No tweaking with deleting dll files and so on like the diamond users?

Yes - Bought - Downloaded COD2Setup.exe - Installed the COD2Setup.exe via WM Device Centre to my memory card - ran the program - changed the configs per post#1
No changes - No deleting - No additional files
I do need to confirm 100% that its using the hardware drivers though.
I ran GLBenchmark but it just ran the test program but not with COD2 running I'm not sure how to get a reading of the COD2 performace/FPS

yeah, it runs. mine still looks as dodgy as on my atom exec. doesnt seem to be any visual improvements :s

HArdware accelerated runs pretty well

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428703

I think it uses software acceleration in the video because it is really laggy compared to the video of the diamond from the original thread...

I am having trouble correctly remapping the keys, can someone help.
I want to use the W S A D keys instead of the arrows. btw I have AEB plus installed

Had a snoop around
cod2_goforce.exe - is present in the COD2 game directory
libGLES_CM.dll - is present in the Windows directory
cod2_gles - not present
lebgles_cm.dll - not present
Found this on another site trying to install COD2 to a Diamond
For Hardware 3D render:
For Intel rename COD2_G~1.001 to cod2_gles.exe
For Geforce rename COD2_G~1.003 cod2_goforce.exe
rename LIBGLE~1.004 libGLES_CM.dll
I'm sure lebgles_cm.dll was present before, as I looked for it when I was reading hamdir Diamond thread.
1. Does anyone else still have lebgles_cm.dll after installing COD2 but not applying the Diamond hack?
2. Does anyone know how to confirm 100% it is running in hardware mode?
3. Any programs out there that show the FPS COD2 is running at?

Yeah your all right the first post/video was using software rendering.
cod2_goforce.exe was present on the TP internal memory:- root/Program Files/COD2
Because I had installed the COD2 to my storage card the cod2_goforce.exe needed to be copied over to:- Storage Card/Program Files/COD2
Watch both in high quality on you tube and compare Call of Duty 2 PPC on HTC Touch Pro ( Raphael ) using hardware drivers with Call of Duty 2 PPC on HTC Touch Pro ( Raphael ) using software drivers
Although the new video doesn't really do it justice as it looks a bit grainy you can see the differance clearest on his arm and gun. It looks great on the TP though.
Since the video I have also pointed the COD2.Ink shortcut to cod2_goforce.exe.
Thanks everyone for the tips

What I did found is that you can only re-map the keys to certain combinations otherwise selecting 1 key changes all the others.
First ensure you start the game with the keyboard open
I have set them to the following on under "configuration":
Settings1
Look up: I
Look down: K
Turn right: J
Turn left: L
Low detail mode: not highlighted
Flip screen: click once to turn the page to match the keyboard direction
Blood: your own choice
Sensitivity: middle of the slider bar
Volume: own choice
Settings2
Forward: ^ up arrow on keyboard - shows as <-- arrow on the display
Back: v down arrow on keyboard - shows as --> arrow on the display
Left: < left arrow on keyboard - shows as down arrow on the display
Right: > right arrow on keyboard - shows as up arrow on the display
Aim sight: space
Grenade: no change
Swap weapon: shift
Reload: no change
Toggle pose: CTRL
Action: no change
Pause: no change
Fire: enter
Found this was about the best compromise

I've bought this game and everything for my compact iv, but i cant get the game working, the demo works and everything. When i try and run the game it says "Error: No Owner Information". How can i get into the settings to input my information ? If anyone knows...

Is your Kaiser gruesomely slow?

If it is, then other than the missing drivers, then the chances are that either a subset of Kaisers, or roms, or third party apps are causing some devices to be a LOT slower than others.
There are people claiming that their devices take three seconds to change orientation. They also claim that you can actually see the icons being "drawn" on the screen.
As a happy Kaiser owner, I have never experienced anything like that (except when syncing over USB - when the device pretty much stops responding for the first few seconds of syncing and then returns to normal.
Changing to landscape on mine take approx 0.3 seconds (I say approx as its too quick to actually time).
Now I made a horrible error. I tried to point out to the defensive people over on the classaction thread that if their device was really that bad, they could try a different rom and see if that makes their device better. I didnt argue that "the" drivers weren;t missing or that their devices would be fine without them. All I did was try to get some research to see if there was an obvious group of devices or roms or apps that was causing the problem.
If like me, you prefer to sort these things out - rather than wait for a year for a class action - then try the benchmarking test in my sig and post your results and rom details. Hopefully, we can find the cause of the major differences in performance.
My device scored 1643 overall.
He's right, people should start blaming the device for everything. Bring back the days when you'd clean up your device when you'd feel it being slow.
Mine is in 1680 or so as well.
Unwired 4,
Can you perhaps provide a detailed list of all the applications you have on your phone?
I ask you this because I don't have alot of apps on my phone; mainly Googlemaps, livesearch, TCPMP, Dutty 1 calc, HTC Album, Opera mini and Palringo.
I don't have any SPB products clogging up my today screen with its numerous shortcuts. I haven't tweaked my clock appearance and I'm using the original windows blue background on my today screen.
My phone looks pretty similar to when it was bought yet I have noticed a lag, even when it comes to changing the screen orientation from portrait to landscape. It takes roughly one second. Sometimes opening an application takes forever, and closing it down to.
I had an issue with video playback, but the member 'Audio' and co offered settings which greatly improved movie playback. So that’s one tiny area fixed
What are you doing on your device which is causing your phone to run so fluidly?
I was happy with my device running the stock Orange Rom. It was quicker than my Hermes running the Black Majik rom. I recently flashed the V3 Dutty Rom and its a little faster - not much though.
I have a 4gb microsd card that I install most apps on. I use the HTC Home screen - with no other plug ins.
See below for screen grabs of installed programs.
Underwired 4,
Thanks for the response. I have an 8GB memory card, and I install all my applications on this card, and not on the device memory. The only thing I've installed on the device memory, that I can recall, is the PIE fix, and the slight fix for the camera. That is all. Everything else goes onto my 8GB storage card, of which I have over 5GB of memory left over. From the looks of it, I have more device storage memory than you do, but slightly less programme memory than you.
My free storage memory reads: 112.76 MB
My free programme memory: 48.54 MB

I have scratched my head about this before too. I tested this last night and if you take the card OUT, you will see a BIG increase in your memory.
My feeling is that maybe if you have shortcuts on the phone TO those apps on the card, at boot time, the phone reads all of those and maybe that is what does it? Or 1 or 2 of those apps on the card load (somehow) on the boot up.
I hope I explained that correctly
Here's my list (doesn't have all I have installed) and it's not slow whatsoever.
My VSbenchmark overall result is 1600-something.. I'm really using it, and Kaiser is coping with it with no problems.. my Wizard would beg for mercy at this point.

Have you run any tweaking programs to set page pools etc? Such as Kasier Tweak or Shaps advanced config tool?
Mines a bit random.
Sometimes about 1 second, sometimes more. Sometimes it redaws off center and has to draw again. Seems to take longer when sliding the keyboard back in than it does the other way.
Can't say it really annoys me too much... I just wait for it

Since you seem to be on a mission, please provide us video of your screen rotation. Actually 2 videos; one with only today screen showing and one with any program open on it. If im on Today, the screen rotates in about a sec, but if I have i.e. Opera Mini open it takes 3 sec at least.
I just said on the classaction.org thread that i had a friends Ipaq 6915 for few days and the difference in speed, i.e. opening programs menu is obvious.
Im still running Duttys WWE lite rom with Spb Pocket Plus + Diary + weather, S2U2, WkTask, TC, Office, Live etc installed. On my today i have only 4 quick launch icons and the Spb Diary.
BTW. Its a joke playing even Spb Arkball on the Kaiser...

Stock Tilt Rom, without the AT&T software.
The only mission I am on is to imporve the plight of the unhappy Kaiser owners.
Despite accusations of being an HTC spy etc etc, I just want to back up that my happiness with my device is due to it responding as fast as I need it to- which may also explain why HTC think the device is fast enough.
(Am trying to shoot vids now. Opera Mini will always take longer to redraw as its a java app inside a midlet mgr).

Just for the record, my fiancee's Wizard (used to be mine) is a faster when opening menus and redrawing the screen. Why? It's running WM5 stock ROM with almost nothing on it but basic functions. The today screen is empty. Only thing it has is S2U2 running on background (so that her purse doesn't keep calling me).
My Kaiser is filled with stuff, as you can see screenshots on my previous post in page 1.. and it's a it slower.. delay of 0.4 seconds doesn't bother me.

It seems that reflashing to Dutty's v3 ROM makes it a bit faster. And, splitting hairs, replacing ati_d3d.dll to the one from LG seems (judging by VS benchmarks) to make it a tiny little bit faster as well.
Really bad quality videos... sorry! Did them in a rush on my old sony digital camera. Focussing would have helped...
Switching in today - portrait to landscape is faster than I am! Back to portrait takes nearly a second.
Switching and scrolling through emails.
My "stock" Kaiser - ATT Tilt -with a few apps installed and running Hotsynch to get my corporate mail, I scored the following:
Test 1 - 1067
Test 2 - 1772
Test 3 - 2176
Test 4 - 1244
Test 5 - 0786
Final Score - 1409
I got 1441 after soft reset with HotSynch running to synch mail wirelessly, then removed hotsynch and got 1509.
So, I guess I need to go ahead and flash my ROM.
I am new to the site and have to start reading the threads and getting familiar, but to jumpstart me, is there a "best" or "most used" ROM and Cab config that is popular and stable amongst the group? I saw a touchflow video on youtube - do many of them have that?

Welcome, Tom =)
Most used ones are probably Dutty's v3 ROM and Alex's Home ROM. Also, many of our "most famous" cooks are testing and creating stable ROMs that run WM 6.1.. so if you want, you can just wait for a bit and reflash 6.1 ROM.

Quake Mobile not working on Tytn II

I have installed and reinstalled Quake Mobile and Quake SOA bought from Handango but everytime I try and run it I get an error message saying a certificate may not be trusted or a component may be missing. Any ideas? Have received no joy from [email protected] to date.
well i have quake working but its not the "official download" that sucks if you payed for it. im using a shareware pak file so i just have the demo, but it works.
Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me how you installed it and what files you have present in the Quake folder I may be missing a file or something. Cheers.
I have the PPCARM2003 versions of both which were on sale as a package on Handango.
Do you have a cooked rom on your phone?
nope..as is ..straight outta the box..1.82.707.0 WWE I'm guessing it's an older rom..
any idea's? I can't believe I blew $20 USD on the 2 game package and I'm getting nada...
If its the certificate error maybe try kaiser tweak? I think it has an option to rid installations of that message.
To be honest with the TyTn II's graphics issues ( lack of drivers etc ) I would be suprised if this would run well on it anyway..

Cheers, sorry for the noob qstn, but where can I get Kaiser Tweak, I had installed Advanced Config Tool in the hopes of perhaps some tweaking as you mentioned but it says I have the wrong version of NET.CF I'm assuming it requires 3.5 which I'm told will kill my other .NET apps that run on 2.0 so I'm kinda going round in circles.
RE: the likely sluggishness of Quake on the Tytn II, I have Tomb Raider running on it seamlessly and had also hoped that with the performance boost I've gotten from Samsung Omnia D3D Driver (SJ SamsungOmnia_Driver_D3D.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416474), that I could hopefully get it running. Maybe even with some quakebots, which I saw on another thread today. That would be worth the $20 I blew at Handango.
Any advice appreciated.
ok the original link that i used is no longer working. however try this
http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDownload/Pocket-Quake-Download-16367.html
make a quake folder on the root directory of your phone. in this directory place Pocketquake.exe and another folder called ID1. in the ID1 folder put autoexe.cfg and pak0.pak. pak0.pak contains all the levels and game info. ull have to use the shareware demo, unless u can find the real one. i have a config file in my folder but that was with the old link. you shouldnt need it. if you want full screen paste this into the autoexe.cfg file
// Start in portrait
vid_mode "1"
viewsize "100.000000"
togglemenu
unbind "alt"
let me know what happens. message me if u need to i can email you exactly what i have if u need me to.
i had to play with the controls in the auto.exe file to get them better so just experiment with it.
Thanks for that am going to give it a go now..cheers
quake mobile? or pocket quake?
quake mobile is a OpenGL accelerated pocket pc version of quake. it is only for VGA devices, preferably on ones that use an accelerating chip. It's not the real port to quake 1, but it's pretty damn close. Unfortunately you will not be able to get it to work on your Kaiser, it's not meant for that device.
pocket quake IS the port of quake 1, nothing different about it, it's the real stuff. unfortunately on all these new wm6.1 roms it wont work. so unless your using an older rom, or one of dutty's older wm6.1 roms (which aren't based off of the kaiser wm6.1 released by htc), that is the only way you can get it to work.
im using dutty's wm6.1 hybrid, it works fine on that
Yeah I just realised that..it's Mobile Quake the Open GL version for VGA devices. Bummer, on Handango you log in and have your device registered with them or select it then they provide a list of compatible apps. I clearly selected Tytn II and the first package I get offered to buy is the fricken Mobile Quake Package with Quake SOA thrown in. So aside from that rip off...let's see if I can't get this Pocket Quake working. I have the ROM that the Kaiser came with out of the box which I assume is ancient as it's carrying WM6.0...not too keen on installing to the root of the phone as I'm pretty jammed with apps. Maybe a Duke Nukem port or some other suggestions for a decent fix for my FPS yearnings I could install to SD would do the trick. Any suggestions? Both as to whether I am in dire need of a ROM upgrade and/or ports of any of the popular FPS's that I can get to work on my Kaiser. Cheers fellas.
at one point i had duke nukem on my phone, but you had to tap the screen to fire. im sure some key mapping could fix it but i havent had time yet. let me know if anyone get bots to work with pocket quake. it works with the pc version so theres no reason it cant with the ppc version

[APP][May 5 2009][WWE] TouchFlo Detacher 1.0.1.1 FINAL - Another TF3D/Today switcher!

I have ceased development of this project because I don't use TouchFlo 3D anymore. All source code is available. If anybody wants to take over the CodePlex project, just PM me and it's yours for the taking!
Overview
TouchFlo Detacher is yet another way to simultaneously have TouchFlo 3D / 2D and the regular Today screen. Previous excellent solutions include SecondToday and ManilaControl.
CodePlex
TFD development is hosted at Microsoft CodePlex! http://www.codeplex.com/TFDetacher

Description
So what makes mine different? Well, my app is actually very similar to MastSogo's ManilaControl. The main difference is that I plan to actively develop it now for a while, whereas ManilaControl has been a bit frozen in development for a few months. Mine is also open source, licensed under the Ms-RL. Mine is on CodePlex, so download speeds should be much better than the average rapidshare link. Finally, mine is in English and not Spanish. Other than that, it's just another solution for the same problem!
I must give a hearty thank you and bow to MastSogo for inspiring me to work on this.
I believe I am using a similar technical solution to his, but mine is written from the ground up, so it shares no source code with his!
See it in action on the YouTubes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk0xWm8PMGQ
Current features
- Free up your Today screen by hosting Manila outside of the Today screen! TouchFlo Detacher can launch/show/hide/close Manila independent of any other Today screen settings. Now you can have your TouchFlo cake and eat it too! The most obvious use is to assign a soft key to toggle between seeing TouchFlo and seeing the regular Today screen.
- Supports TouchFlo 3D and TouchFlo 2D.
- NO ANNOYING SPLASH SCREEN when application launches.
- Configuration application allows advanced customizations so that this utility can be used with non-standard or untested Manila versions.
- Configuration application can clean out the ManilaActivateToday.exe from the notification queue. (That app can interefere with TouchFlo Detacher's operation.)
- Shortcuts to start/show Manila, hide Manila, toggle (show/hide) Manila, and close Manila. These can be assigned to hardware buttons (if your device has them), to virtual hardware buttons through the use of 3rd party applications such as AE Button Plus, or to gestures using 3rd party applications such as FTouchSL.
- Configuration application can customize the softkeys in both Today and TouchFlo's Home tab. You can use it to not only assign TouchFlo Detacher operations (show/hide/close), but any other application on your device.
- Launch an application after TouchFlo launches... Such as SSMaHo. It's easy. Create an attach link in SSMaHo. Put the attach link in the config: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\SSMaHo Attach.lnk
Known Issues
- On the Touch HD, the home hardware button does not return to the Manila "home" tab. This does not happen on the Pro or Diamond. Workaround: none. Scheduled fix: unknown.
- Sometimes the clock on the TouchFlo home page will stop and go out of sync with the real time. Workaround: hide and then show manila. I may need to create a scheduled task that can do that as an automatic workaround once per day for those experiencing the problem. Scheduled fix: unknown.
History
1.0.1.1 STABLE FINAL - Fixed bugs in 1.0.1.0; Added ability to launch an app after TouhcFlo launches.
1.0.1.0 BETA - The first version of TFD that no longer requires a pseudo-service. All functionality should be identical to 1.0.0.5, otherwise.
1.0.0.5 STABLE - The "hide then show" workaround wasn't working in some instances, so I put extra detection code in to determine the current state of Manila before issuing the hide/show commands. If this doesn't work, I can add customizable delays. Also added AppToDate support!
1.0.0.4 STABLE - First release I am considering stable! It is identical to the very tested 1.0.0.3 except for one new feature. When you start the TFDService you can now optionally have it hide and then show Manila immediately. It does this VERY quickly, so you may not even notice it happening on screen. This is done so as a workaround some users are having where they cannot access the phone until Manila is hidden at least one time. Very odd behavior. It is working perfectly in my tests, but please let me know if this workaround doesn't work for you.
1.0.0.3 Beta - TF2D support I think is finally complete! Please test! New layout for TFDConfig. Standard and advanced options are now in separate tabs. More advanced options for alternate Manila configurations. Fixed bug in config where a crash could happen when you tried removing ActivateManilaToday. Toggle TouchFlo command is now available (note: this toggles show/hide, NOT show/close).
1.0.0.2 Beta - New language-neutral detection of Manila process and window handles (no longer need to know titles!). Fixed (hopefully) bug where the softkeys sometimes didn't hide correctly. Window class "search" is no longer case sensitive. Optional delay when starting Manila at system start-up (attempting to work around issue where Manila won't launch on startup).
1.0.0.1 Beta - Confg app can now start the service. The service has better error reporting. Config app can remove TouchFlo today item. No need to soft reset! TouchFlo 2D support (maybe - I'm trying!). Some crappy icons ;-) ... Service detects if TouchFlo Today item is enabled. Link to start and stop the service. Fixed installer bugs. Bug fixes!

.Net Compact Framework 2.0
A device that runs TouchFlo3D (Manila) or TouchFlo2D (Manila2D).
FAQ
FAQ
Q: I uninstalled TouchFlo Detacher but TouchFlo did not come back!
A: Changes made with TFDConfig will not automatically be undone when you uninstall TouchFlo Detacher. To get TouchFlo back, go into your phone's settings. Go into Today. Go to the "items" tab. Check in "TouchFlo 3D" (or 2D or whatever). Exit. TouchFlo will be back.
Q: I uninstalled TouchFlo Detacher but my softkeys did not go back to the way they were before!
A: Changes made with TFDConfig will not automatically be undone when you uninstall TouchFlo Detacher. Do not worry! Fixing this is very simple. Before uninstalling TFD, it's recommended you run TFDConfig one more time and reassign the softkeys to whatever you want them to be. For TouchFlo's softkeys, all you have to do is set them both to empty (as in, nothing) to get the default softkeys (phone/programs). For Today's softkeys, you can assign them to whatever you want -- calendar, phone, contacts, your choice!
If you have already uninstalled TFD, you will need to use a registry editor to reset the values. Here are the relevant keys:
Today left softkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112
[Default] = Text on softkey
Open = Path to program to run
Today right softkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113
[Default] = Text on softkey
Open = Path to program to run
TouchFlo 3D left softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila
HomeLSKText = Text on softkey
HomeLSKPath = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
TouchFlo 3D right softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila
HomeRSKText = Text on softkey
HomeRSKPath = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
TouchFlo 2D left softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila2D\Home
SK1 = Text on softkey
SK1Cmd = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
TouchFlo 2D right softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila2D\Home
SK2 = Text on softkey
SK2Cmd = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
Hi,
Is this a Manila3D only switcher or will it also work with Manila2D? I have been using Mastsogo's until now, but the lack of support is a bit worrying.

It may work with TF2D, I just have no way to test it since my device is TF3D. In the config, you can specify the location of the Manila EXE and the window class/titles. I'm assuming since MastSogo's did both, it's just a matter of tweaking those settings. As soon as somebody gets me that info, I can add it into the config app.
Installed on a Wizard (WM6.1 5.2.20273) running Manilla2D, set Today screen to use TodayAgenda 1.5 only. After soft reset, I get a Win32Exception with the following debugging information (see attached).
I'm checking the launch parameters in the config now (I started with the defaults).
Sheesh, I should have checked the parameters before going to the work of assembling that debugging jpeg. For Manila2D, the two references to Manila.exe need to be changed to Manila2D.exe. I still don't have it working, but at least it only throws one error message now.
I don't have any more testing time today. Good luck with your app.

As Uracil said, the name of the executable for TF2D is Manila2D. That's why Manila control needs a config program. It asked which one you are using and sets the parameter accordingly.
Fantastic. Loaded this onto my AT&T Stock, fully bloated Fuze. Works like a champ! Great app, thanks!
I will try this for sure!
TWO THINGS!
1) anybody knows a safe way to uninstall Manila Control?
2) I am a bit affraid of this "resident" thing... this program (TFD let's call it) uses one of the very scarce 32 processes? if YES sorry it's not for me (I am already dangerously close to the limit - up to the point that some sync processes don't have where to run)
nice app! well done
Ran through the steps to set it up, on soft reset the device hangs at the startup HTC animation, Hard reset time , the manila im using has the following mods:
CFC Compression
Background 4 all tabs (mun rus)
Stocks tab
HD contacts
Will investigate further..
EDIT: Havent been able to replicate this issue after a hard reset, probably something else i installed.
Minor issue ive spotted though, set left softkey in TF3D to "Today" which hides TF3D....in the blank today screen i dont see the setting for the left softkey (Which is set to "TouchFlo 3D" and should show TF3D) i still see the softkey setting from when TF3D is visible. So the effect is i cant get back to TF3D after hiding it unless i literally run it from the start menu.

WM 6.x and newer raised the process limit to 32768, so you should be fine.
EDIT: I was wrong! Don't believe me! Keep reading below. (The short of it: WM6 is based on CE 5.0, NOT CE 6.0, which is the version of CE that doesn't have the 32 process limit.)

The exception you showed is the service not finding the EXE. There are two places you need to change it. The "EXE Only" config is just the name of the EXE (for finding it in the running process list). The "full path" is where the file is located in the file system (including the EXE name!). Did you change both?
Thanks for the info. I'm going to make that "file not found" error more friendly for beta2. Also, now that I know what I'm looking for, I can add a built-in way to switch from Manila3D to Manila2D.

Does it get to the Today screen at all? The service is in the Startup folder. All it does is try to Launch manila.exe at startup (you can actually even disable that if you want to in the config), so it would be really weird if that froze the device. Not saying it's not possible, just really really weird!

No man you are wrong (100%).
In *my* WM6.1 at least, the limit is 32. Well in fact all WM6.1.
Only new WinCE (not the builds used in WM6.X) have lifted this limit.
WM7 is supposed to not have this limit (because uses different WinCE) and a very small possibility (like 5%) that WM6.5 will have this limit lifted.
With the help of Daniel Herrero (the guy that makes CommManagerPro) we even built a simple app that we run as much as we could, to test this.
Sure enough my device after 4-5 runs started killing other apps. After 1-2 more runs, I got a pop-up that said that I cannot run more apps because I reached the process limit. My device is a loaded Touch Pro.
His much lighter X1, sure enough came to the same result, but only after more runs, about 10 or something (since he had more process "slots" free).
So you probably have to (and please do) rethink your strategy (for example use a REAL service or handle things based on triggers) as processes ARE a scarce commodity in WM.
At least add a mode or something that doesn't use a process all the time (even with some extra delay). I will certainly NOT eat more of my processes.
I installed this on my Touch HD... ran config but chaned nothing, disabled TF3d and soft reset... now don't know what to do... seem to be missing a step... for example how to toggle between Today and TF3d... running hide and close tf3d in the utilities folderdoes nothing

You are right. I was going on what I read on another website from a while back. I just did some research and, sure enough, WM6 is based on CE 5, which has the 32 process, 32MB limit still in place.
The strategy I am using will not change as there is no way (that I know of) to write a service DLL in the Compact Framework, but if somebody knows of a way, I will certainly look into it.
EDIT: I did a check and I'm only running 24 processes with my media app, Total Commander, TFD, 3 other "service" apps (dont forget, PocketShield, VistaHide Battery Bar). That leaves me with 6 more apps until WM6 gets nervous (it seems to close after going above 30). How are you so close? I'm not judging your mobile computing habits, I'm just curious! Also, I'm thinking of rolling the "service" code into stand alone EXEs for cases like yours, but it will be very slow switching back and forth. I tested that at first before deciding on the memory resident app and it took about 5 seconds to switch each time. But maybe you'll have better luck!

It's possble the HD may have a slightly different Manila configuration than the Diamond/Pro. If you find the manila.exe and can scan the window classes and titles (such as with FDCsoft's Task manager) that will give you the info you need to configure it for the HD. If you figure it out, post it here so I can add it to the config app.

Let me see if I am understanding you. The left soft key on the "real" Today screen says "TouchFlo" but it isn't launching TouchFlo? If you go into the configuration and set the Today left soft key using my quick drop down (Show TouchFlo 3D) this doesn't fix the issue? If so, can you post what the app path is that it is showing?

g-sensor not reliable

I'm facing lots of dificulties to use the built-in acceleromenter in the Diamond2, this is my first device with an accelerometer, so, might be my fault.
I found the utility most convinient to write emails or sms, but when I'm reading, the screen turns landscape all of a sudden with a brief movement when I want it portrait and when I want landscape for writting, not always turns, it's not very responsive and unreliable.
is this normal? is there a way to fix behaviour so always read in portrait mode and write in landscape?
thx
Maybe a little too easy BUT: did you calibrate the G-sensor???
yes I did
imho it is not the g-sensor that is not reliable, it is just that going from portrait to landscape is very slow on the TD2, and depend on application and free memory: it can go from slow to extremely slow to more or less crashing TouchFlo3D. I think it is software related, and may be corrected in the future by rom updates or cooked roms...
good to know is not my device, and that I can expect improvement with next roms
thx
Not sure if having it more sensitive or responsive would be a plus. You could get the screen switching back and forth with just minor movements and that will definitely impede functionality.

Yes, I think this is the problem. Because the device is running Windows at heart, I suspect that it's using virtual memory in the same way as a PC. When you tilt, it suddently needs to swap some task out, get some new code and execute it - and this operation isn't quick.
I read somewhere that the iPhone is gaining the ability to run more than one task at once. I never realised it couldn't do this - get a real operating system ;-) But I suppose the advantage it does bring is that the one task that can run can do so with full system resources. Swings and roundabouts.
Just a guess...
Cheers, Rob.

Whilst it's called Windows, there's very little if any shared codebase between Windows CE and desktop Windows. It runs on a different CPU instruction set, with very different requirements and restrictions. AFAIAA, there's no virtual memory system like there is on real windows, processes get told to shutdown when there is a memory shortage. Personally I suspect the reason for the delay is that when you change the rotation you also effectively change the resolution (since it's not a square screen), and Opera has to reposition all of its controls and menus etc.. which takes a second or so.
Windows mobile certainly does have virtual memory:
http://blogs.msdn.com/lokeuei/archi...anding-virtual-memory-for-windows-mobile.aspx
Cheers, Rob.
My apologies, when the OP referred to "swapping a task out", I thought he was referring to program or user data being written out to a page file on disk which AIUI doesn't happen in CE. Sure each process has a virtual address space and binaries are dragged in and released but that's not what I thought he was referring to... maybe he was so apologies again. Interesting articles though.. I need to read them and refresh when I get the time...!

I find it annoying when it goes into landscape mode during and after calls, I have to keep shaking it to rotate

Gemrb - BG / Planescape / Icewind dale on our Droid 3's. Install instructions!

Hello all! I wanted to share this because when I discovered it, I went nuts! Really? Some of the most amazing games of all time on our phones? (And my Transformer Tab).
One of the primary reasons I wanted to post this here is because with the fact that our Droids have a hardware keyboard, these games play exceptionally well compared to me playing them on my tablet, where the all touchscreen controls are a bit difficult to use.
So here's what you do:
1. Install gemRB from the android market. gemRB is an open source version of the infinity engine, the engine that baldurs gate \ planescape \ icewind dale uses.
2. Install one of the infinity engine games on your PC. For instance.. Baldurs gate 2 (which is the only game I have tried thus far).
3. Download the widescreen patch from http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/ . Place the EXE in your Baldurs Gate 2 folder (or whatever infinity engine game), and run it. It now asks you if you want to patch for normal installation, or if you want to patch for a gemrb installation. Obviously we would choose gemrb.
4. Follow the screen prompts, and when it asks x resolution and y resolution, you have to make a decision. The phone's screen is 960x540... but if you compile the widescreen at this resolution, in my opinion, it makes things WAY too small to read. So I decided to use 800x480, which is also the same ratio as 960x540. This makes things a little bit bigger while still looking quite nice. (Note, if you are going to change resolution, you have to run the exe on your computer again, and recopy the ENTIRE BG2 directory onto your phone. So it's kind of a pain in the ass to change rez).
5. gemrb creates a folder /sdcard/app-data/net.sourceforge.gemrb/ . This is where you're going to copy and paste the innards of your BG2 directory folder. don't post just the folder, it has to be the files INSIDE the directory. So for instance, in my net.sourceforge.gemrb folder, I have a cache folder, cd2-5, characters data, etc. Not just a "BG2 - SOA" folder.
6. A file in the net.sourceforge.gemrb folder is called GemRB.cfg.sample. Open this up with a text editor and make sure everything looks good. Change the resolution in the text file to 800x480 or whatever you choose to run it at. afterwards, you MUST rename the file to just GemRB.cfg ... delete the "sample" part in the name.
7. Run that **** and configure! Mine worked perfectly. The best part about our droids is that we can map all buttons to our physical keyboard. So I really only use the touchscreen to move the cursor around... my left click is LALT, right click is the OK button, pause is spacebar, etc. This makes the game just a DELIGHT to play on our phones.
It really runs and works remarkably well. I highly suggest trying this out if you're a fan of these amazing games!
Nice post!! I have something similar to this for Warcraft II, and the addon, Tides of Darkness.
Have an idea of what sort of framerate your getting? Finally have some free time and I'll try it out. Thanks for the heads up
Game runs flawlessly on my d3. Zero frame issues, so probably 30fps

I can't say for sure, but I'd imagine BG, BG2, Planescape Torment, IWD, IWD2 all work
Nice, Baldurs Gate is a little too hard for me. But Icewind Dale should be easier I hope.
I've tried planescape, i get a blue screen when i start a new game or from my old save, not a blue screen of death mind you, just blue.
The bottom bar appears ok once in and the main menu, but then get into the game and it's all blue.

I'll have to check out planescape sometime soon and let you know if it works or not. Like I said, I've only done baldurs gate. I wonder if you're missing a setting somewhere..... did you try the widescreen patch?
Hey Mate yeah did the widescreen patch, fits screen nicely, does crash every now and again when loading the game up with gemrb but once in the menu works and the game looks fullscreen.
I only had one stab at it tho it's pretty easy to setup, i might have a corrupt file or something, the cd's are pretty old.

Edit:
looks like it's simply not too compatible yet with PST:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/planescape_torment/gemrb_and_planescape
Anyone else run this with games from GOG.com? I followed instructions multiple times, PST and BG2, it always showed me a blue screen then crahsed after the game started.
EDIT:
Got it! For games from gog you have to point all cd's to ./data

So I have an issue that I haven't seen covered yet. I am tring to play Throne of Bhaal. My game will start fine until I get past the intro videos. After that I just get my finger control and a black screen.

Thanx Camspanners that worked for me also, i'm guessing every game will need the cd folders changed like this to work.
Not sure what resolution to play the game in yet, i think the original 640x480 would better suit.

I'm pretty sure if you look on their website, Throne of Bhaal uses a slightly different engine, so you need to use different files to replace the stock windows ones. I know they have them on the Gemrb site, but I don't think it's a finished product and there are still some bugs left in TOB.

Thank you for the good instructions but what does a "good" GemRB.cfg file look like?
I have some confusion at this point (not my gemrb.cfg file, but a sample taken from another website)

The default gemrb.cfg file seems to want you to include the CD information, so does this mean, as according to the instructions for the app you copy ALL the files in the BG install folder, and ALSO the contents of each CD into its own folder within the droid file system? Which is fine, but I'm unclear if that is the steps I need to take. Thanks!
I have Baldurs Gate 2 GOG version ( 1 install exe, 2 Bin file).
Installed to pc,followed install note but not workin on my phone.
Create character, start and i got blue scrren and crash....
Any solution?
