Bluetooth Dongle - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi all, Thanks for reading.
It seems that all bluetooth dongles do separate things. I am looking for an all singing, all dancing dongle! My new laptop does not have bluetooth! Can I anyone give me any recommendations? Is there anything I should look for?
Thanks
Will

make sure its blutooth 2.0 with EDR (enhanced data rate)
i get 1.5Mbps+ speeds with EDR enabled dongle...
also make sure that the dongle supports maximum no. of profiles...
i'm not sure if u should be asking this question here.....

Thanks for your help.....No I wasn't convinced either! BUT I thought I want it relevant to the Diamond device, because that is what I am pairing it with as well. I know it is not an APP, Accessory, or Upgrade? Oh! Possible in Accessory! Having written it I see what I should have done? I was thinking Bluetooth as a whole not as a dongle!

Does XDA support bluetooth? is there any accessory available that can make this device work with other blutooth device?
No, it doesn't, and there's no way to make it do bluetooth. THe SD-card slot does not do SDIO, and the USB-port will only talk to computers, not to peripherals. Yes: this is annoying.

Yes its real, here in the States you can get it from $149.00. As a matter of fact I bought one last week and should have it in a few days. 8)
this uses a dongle to atch bluetooth trasmitter to ur xda via 2.5mm connector. and then u can use it with the bluetooth headset
alex
I understand that the XDA has no SDIO and therefor is not compatible with any (existing) Bluetooth SD card -
BUT: would it be possible to use one of the USB printer cable replacement Bluetooth sets in order to have a Bluetooth connection between PC and XDA? From what I understand these sets should create a virtual, wireless USB connection which should be fine for ActiveSync... :?: [/b]
what does it say???

What? Of course not, it's an FM antenna, not a DVB antenna, theres no chip for it, the phone wasnt made to do it, theres no software. Do you want to enable the hidden washing machine feature too?

hidden? what ROM do u use? mine is not hidden
check settings/system/..
Many newbies does`nt know this, but after you´ve closed the hatch, you need to shake the phone for about 30 min. (40 for xtra rinse).
Ok, stupid question to waste you time with. Sorry bout that.
Guess I need something like a Slingbox connected to my online pc and connect through Diamond TV.
But a dongle with TV-tuner in it would be cool...
This Google search shows that there are USB receivers, but I don't see any mini-USB. Looks like it's possible though, if you can find a mini one.

Using at&t tilt as GPS Receiver for Laptop Turn by Turn software?

Ok I have been looking for a solutions for a long time. I want to use my shiny new Dell Mini 10 with windows 7 for turn by turn directions and i want to use my at&t tilt as the GPS receiver. So, what FREE solutions do I have? Google Earth would be sweet if it had VOICE directions.. but I know the odds of finding a free solution for that is going to be slim.
also, i keep thinking that i'll need a data connection AND a way to share the gps signal?!
bluetooth isn't an option.. at least not yet. I have to buy a BT dongle some day soon. HOPEFULLY i can find a miniscule BT USB thing so it wont stick out the side of the mini too much.
So i have 2 options for connections.. i have WIFI router on the tilt or i have to use USB. but as far as i know.. if i use usb i have to then CHOOSE between internet sharing or activesync... i need to use active sync to share the gps ports but i need internet sharing to get the data connection!!?? sooooo confused..
someone PLEASE help me
thats the situation.. to review... here are the questions i need answered.
1) what software to use on the laptop?
2) what software(s) to use on the phone?
2a) gps sharing?
2b) internet sharing?
3) how to connect the two? (usb, wifi or bt)
THANKS AHEAD OF TIME to whoever responds..
and please don't BURN me because I HAVE SEARCHED.. if you know the threads i should read then please just link me and i'll be happy to read them over..
Well, you'll need something like gps2blue
http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html
on the tilt and Hardware Virtual Serial Port from here:
http://www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.html
That will make the GPS on the Tilt look like a Serial port GPS device to the netbook.
That is the easy part. I don't think you'll find a free GPS mapping product with turn-by-turn voice commands.
Actually you will

Tethering an ipod touch.

Hi,
Are there any ROMs or apps out there that will enable me to connect my ipod touch to the wifi of my N1 and use the inetrnet connection? Basically use the N1 as an access point rather than standard tethering.
Cheers
Not sure about non-rooted phones, but if you are rooted, you can use "Wireless tether for Root Users". I use it often in my car, because I have an ipod adaptor but no 3.5mm jack. So i send internet to my ipod touch, then stream music.
Edit: Just found out that program doesn't work on standard kernel for N1. I Read a post there is a way to get it to work, but haven't investigated yet, anyways, sorry if I gave you the wrong info. I had an HTC Magic and Dream, that both worked fine with wireless tether for root users.

Cyanogenmod will allow you to do wireless tethering, though it doesn't include the app, it is compatible.

You can use my HTC Android Basic Kitchen to create a ROM that adds the wireless tether + required kernel modification for your Nexus One. Check the link in my signature. It's working for me on my N1.
Will give these ideas a try.

[Q] Reverse tether

I have searched this topic but they all centered on Macs or got off topic or someone gave an answer that didnt even solve the solution. So i thought i would ask myself. Is there any way to share my LAPTOPs wifi TO my DROID3???
http://bit.ly/uGGo0Q
to the poster above; i dont like smarta**es. my post said i already searched so if you found something then post a link.
to everyone else i want something via usb or bluetooth. preferably usb. i have googled it and all the results are either hardware specific, need unbunto [i have windows 7] or dont have a solution. If you ever owned a zune [who has? lol besides a few of us] or a windows phone, they can do it from stock.

I have a bluetooth usb adapter on my laptop I am not sure how it does it but it allows me to get online with my droid 3 via the bluetooth link, I click on connect via access point and it works. Sometimes it works and sometimes the signal gets killed, but try connecting through a bluetooth usb adapter.
I know you said preferably over Bluetooth or USB but have you considered trying something like a virtual access point for your PC? It would require WIFI but you could run a software app on your PC that broadcasts as an access point that you could connect to from your phone.
You have a phone that is wifi capable, but you want to thether to your pc to use the wifi connection.
Oh and I hate smartasses too.

do you know the name of the adaptor? this sounds perfect
ASUS bluetooth adapter I got it from meritiline a couple years ago, just been using it recently. And all I did was turn on the bluetooth on my phone and it worked, didn't download any software or anything.
That's funny as he'll.

Your telling me I was just fooling around with my phone and laptop on day, and clicked on a link and boom I was online. I looked at my signal and was thinking "what the hell just happened?" lol
Ifnyou have windows 7 just install connectify
Google it (smartassingly probably just add a .com to that..)
It adds an AP virtual. That sjould not spend alot more of power as you have already wifi running.

If you laptop has Bluetooth (It should, I thought all Intel wifi chipsets in laptops were also Bluetooth) then what you want is a PAN "Personal Area Network". I thought the basic bluetooth stack in Windows supported this out of the box. (The Toshiba BT stack I used with Windows XP did, I don't know for sure about the MS BT stack in Windows 7 though).
Then you just turn on Internet Connection Sharing for you Wifi adapter to the Bluetooth PAN adapter.
Something like that anyway. I'm going from memory on the Windows side, and assuming the Droid 3 (etc.) supports PAN on its Bluetooth setup.
Doing it with USB though is trickier. On Windows 7, my ME863 appears as a network device with IP address, but I don't know if it'd work if I simply used ICS to share a link to the device because I don't know that the phone would be looking for a DHCP server. (It _is_ a DHCP server at this point)
Are you sure your not using the phones 3g or wifi. Did you try turnin on airplane mode and seeing if you still have internet

I just had a play, and I don't think my bluetooth solution is as easy as I'd hoped.
My Milestone 3 was able to join a PAN with my laptop and form their little adhoc network.
The best phone-side instructions I could find are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666988 however a look around suggests that Windows 7 ICS won't let you share a network connection _to_ a BT network. I certainly couldn't see a way, although possibly it was because my phone is exporting a default gateway, rather than because of any inherent limitation of Windows.
It's a starting point, but not a particularly promising one. Whether ICS can be made to share Internet to the bluetooth PAN or not is really the only sticking point for "possible" versus "impossible" but a root-enabled App or possibly custom ROM would be needed on the phone to move from "possible" to "easy".

Can you/did you try setting up a network bridge w/the bluetooth adapter and whatever WAN you're using?

Just had a quick go, and it wouldn't bridge 'em.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com.../thread/84731dc8-0b23-433b-a58b-a0a2d41d93be/ suggests that a third-party Bluetooth stack would work though, just not the MS stack.
