Issues with Manilla weather? Check Here! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I don't know how many of you have had issues with getting the weather to work on any of the Manilla builds, but I did finally figure out a solution for it. I am a Tilt owner, so this may only be a solution for those with Tilts.
First, disable the proxy that ATT has in place.
2nd, take the file HH409_Weather_Cities and open it with notepad on your desktop. After you open it, follow the same setup that they have already to add in your city. After this is done, save it and copy it into the /windows folder on your Tilt. It should ask if you want to replace it. Say yes. After this, locate the file in the /windows directory. It should say Copy of HH409 blah blah blah, RENAME this file! Just remove the "Copy of" and leave the rest. Soft reset the device. Enjoy!

There's a much more detailed guide to adding custom cities found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2638970&postcount=1089
I wrote it awhile ago, and it's posted in the FAQ's in the kaiser rom development forum, and the M2D thread as well.

Awesome, thank you.

No problem, i actually have several tutorials that i have written for various issues. There is so much that i'd like to post but i just haven't had time yet. Check the link in my sig to see what i have posted thus far though.

Scotchua, nice tutorial. I've been using several of your fixes since I discovered them. However, the one note missing from your Manila2D Weather Custom Cities tutorial is how to determine the loca="NAM|US|AK|KETCHIKAN".
I have the solution! For most US locations, you can use the 5-digit ZIP code, but to determine ANY location, including outside the US, use this link to AccuWeather's RSS.
Simply put in your location as instructed in the 'Choose a location' field and click 'Set'. (For this example, I used Whistler, Canada.) The page then generates a URL for you, which looks like accuweather.com/rss/liveweather_rss.asp?metric=0&locCode=NAM|CA|BC|WHISTLER. The piece after locCode= (which I've hilited in Red) is what goes in the loca="" field in the XML file.
Then complete your tutorial, and choose the custom cities! Hope this helps someone else looking to make a quick fix.
Thanks,
Charles

Any way to get back the Pocket IE welcome page?

Hi all,
Just got my 2nd new Kaiser (first one had White Screen of Death) and it also has the home page as a black screen with the HTC logo; not too usefull. Any ideas how to get back the Welcome Screen that has your most recently opened pages and search? Thanks for any ideas...
Ok, well I tried just copying over the default_0409.htm file (checked and all the image files etc. were already in the Windows directory). This brings up the correct looking page, but the Favourites and History buttons don't work; they open File Explorer at the Windows directory instead!
Would be glad for any ideas for what is missing on my Kaiser that I could copy over from the Hermes.
I have attached the file if anyone would care to have a look; I searched to see if any other html pages were linked for example, but I don't know script...
I tried the same thing but no luck
*bump*
Does no one else want this start page in IE? Thanks in advance for any ideas...
bump, that page is on the Mio A501 and it's pretty neat !
Guess no one else likes that page, thanks for the bump though! I have been fiddling but still can't get it to work....
Solved ------> HTC's PIE_Default_409.htm
Okay, There are two ways to do this!!!! The first is time consuming & involves multiple registry changes. I can walk you through it or send you a registry file to import (if you wanna trust me ) or you can do it the easy way!
Easy Way: I'm sure many of you have the absolutely great proggy SK Tools. Well, the new release (4.1.21.x) has a "Replaced Rom Files" function. So either buy the great program or download the trial. Launch the "Replaced Rom Files" tool & check the box for the item marked PIE_Default_xxx.htm (xxx = your language code), either click & hold or check the box, then select action, then select "Restore Rom File". Then enjoy your new "original" HTC PIE Homepage with expandale History & Favorites!

Not sure, might help if you post a JPEG of the screen? The TXT file you included does not work for me.
I just put together a cab file for this today using some files posted by another xda member (I don't remember who it was to credit them).

DANG IT YOU DOG! I jumped the gun on my post! I spent the last week flashing back & digging to find all the references that kept me from changing the by just importing the default_xxx.htm. I finished my cab & logged back in to post it & darn it all if you hadn't beat me to it!

LOL. It's pretty simple to correct with all the correct files. I actually just copied the files to my Windows directory when I first tried it out but figured I'd post a cab file to make it easier on everyone else
thanks for sharing, works fine on the Nike too.
Hi,
I tried running the CAB on my stock Orange HTC ROM, but I still get the orange homepage, not the (more useful) Internet Explorer page as promised above! Any ideas?
Your folder structure must be different. Did you soft reset after install? Otherwise you can do it with SK Tools if it was part of the original ROM.
I did soft reset, but no joy. I may look into SK Tools, although I have just managed to get Opera Mini up and running, so may play around with that instead. Thanks for the advice!

You can go into PIE under Menu, Tools, Options, and see the path and filename for your current homepage. It's possible that Orange uses a different filename as the default page. If you tell me what the filename is and where it's located I can make an updated cab for you.

Here you go. This file is for devices with the Orange ROM only!
You can uninstall the old one first.
Are you guys able to browse with PIE while on 3.5G/HSDPA?
After I open PIE, I receive this same screen on my Tilt, but I'm unable to browse anywhere (my hsdpa account is activated, of course).
I receive (in the bottom left corner) a message: "connecting", but nothing happens.
On the other hand, If I browse with WIFI on, using PIE, I can enter any URL without any problems at all.
In both cases, I can send & receive emails without any problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
As I replied to your other post, check your proxy settings. Which data plan do you have? Are you connecting to WAP or ISP?

Batch fixing 'First Last' <-> 'Last, First' saving manner in contacts

There is possibility to change manner of saving contact name to 'First Last' <-> 'Last, First' etc. in each of the contacts separately. But I'm looking for a solution how to do it on all contacts at once, but without using Outlook or any other computer software (directly in the device).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...
Please search the forum, I am sure I answered this questuon about a year ago. It involves downloading a few cab files, which give you that option in the context menu. I no longer have the files ( did not need them), but there is still a link floating around here somewhere.

Ive searched quite a few times for this in the past, tagging this thread to remind me to check it, if you manage to find these cabs and get it running Eva, post back in here

I've found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=966683&postcount=3
But not tested yet. Paul from MoDaCo also suggested using WebIS Toolbox for that.
Those are the .cab files I meant. Install them on your device, then select all your contacts (there is a separate .cab for that as well, not available in that thread, you have to search for it, it provides an option in your context menu) and then bring up your context menu. Then select the way you want to store your contacts. Worked on my Hermes, not tested on my kaiser

'Select all contacts' would be the secret then, as it's not possible to select multiple contacts by default...
Correct, but I found a .cab file around that period that makes it possible. It only works once though, after selecting all contacts once, only a soft reset would enable you to do it again, some kinda bug I think. But that file was posted here at xda or at modaco, it worked for me.
check out this tool @ http://www.shubaroo.com/index.php?module=contact. it's worked for me without issue...

Thanks - it looks very promising, and I'll test it later in the evening
You need no .cabs to change the way the contact names are displayed on your WM6 Kaiser. Just select a contact and select edit then scroll down till you come accross "File as" click the drop down box and this will give you several options by which to list your contact. For example: John Smith, Smith John or Company Name (Even By Nickname). Try this out.. And hope it helps.
Yeah, sorry read your question wrong...Sorry don't think there is a built in option to change whole list at once. Better stick to those .cabs

Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool - Recommended

Hi all.
There is a 47 page thread on this tool but I thought I'd start a new one as it seems to be such a useful tool that newcomers could benefit from, and being here it will hopefully be easier to find!
I've used Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool to:
1. Remove sim contacts from contact view (so no duplicates)
2. Turn down the volume of the starting up wav (so you can reset at work or at 1am in the morning when your partner is asleep!).
3. It works with my Windows Mobile 6.1 (HTcustom doesn't)
4. It is a .cab file (on your desktop it will appear as a ".zip" icon). All you have to do is save it to your desktop, copy it to your device (storage card will do), then tap it and install it on your device.
The link is on at the bottom of page 1 of this thread by Schaps himself:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070
Scroll through the 47 pages on that thread and you will find other language versions that other users have offered.
There are many options available that I do NOT know how to use or benefit from,
so if any experienced users have any tips on how to get the most out of this tool,
your reply to this thread would be most appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Mattster.
Strange... No replies to this thread? No great settings to recommend, no change-of-life testimonials after the first use of the app?
Just installed it and went for first settings change. Let's see if my HTC Pro shall still live after I restart...
cool stuff, gonna try it out now
thanks dude!

I reckon the quietness is because people seem to only leave threads when they are unhappy about something or have a problem!! This tool is very useful. A light version is built into many ROMS these days, but this one has a few extras.
I use it on any ROM to:
1. Increase the width of the vertical scroll bar. My phone is in a leather case, so the extra width makes it much easier when using the stylus.
2. Change the default storage location for photos taken with the camera.
Hope it helps you too!

Where is it stored?

before I ask the question. I will say I SEARCHED FOR THE ANSWER FIRST!!!!!!! damnit man.. however I, at the current time (after work a little buzzed from the wine) don't posses the correct keyword(s) that will yeild the correct answer to my question or the answers yeilded in my question are so incohernent that I can't use them.
Question: What is the file that stores the autocomplete, autofill, dictionary, suggestion, WORDS, that I have from messaging the past months?
When I start an e-mail to my G/F and the press I and the auto complete suggests "I love you" boy does it make my life easier to press the down arrow and select that instead of type it. My phone is so "smart"! until I go wipe the ROM and then I have to type eveything instead of the phone guessing it for me! sigh...
FLAME me if you must but at the least provide me with the correct file name so that I can proceed with switching my ROM.
Super Cheers!

I cant vouch that it works, but i did a bit of digging and found this. I hope it helps
http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=T9Editor&platform=ppc
Not really. A file name is all I require.
I figured having an application right on the phone to add the words rather than copying a file to the desktop editing it and patching it back......... but meh...... at least i tried for you .........
Edit**
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317696&page=3
LOL! Your response is all too good. Many thanks!
this could turn into an intersting logic game..
we each name a DLL and the first one to name where it should be located gets a point!
The correct file is compimeh.####.dat. I did have to rename the file in the windows folder before I could copy the backup into the windows folder. This allowed me to keep my "custom" dictionary, autocomplete, word suggestions that I accumulated over the months.
Cheers,
Nodnarb

OEM/CAB for Push to Talk (PTT) on AT&T Tilt/Kaiser?

Greeting All, I promise I wouldn't resort to starting a new thread unless I had exhausted all other options. I've searched 25+ different things on Google, read literally hundreds of thread and thousands of posts learning and creating. I've been a Mogul user for a year, but have now moved on to the Kaiser/Tilt. I've made a fantastic ROM and love everything about it except for one thing - it's missing PTT. I own a computer business and our techs use this religiously. I'd love to have it back, but have searched high and low for an OEM or CAB. I even tried extracting it myself from the latest AT&T stock ROM, only to have it never install right after creating the CAB.
I've hit road blocks and dead ends all over the forum. 4 times I found what I needed and all times the CAB/OEM/RAR no longer existed. Googling the file name returned nothing. The best I have to go on is this: I saw in a discontinued thread there was an OEM package from "_Alex_'s UltraClean ATT 1.60.502.3 ROM OEM Packages.rar", namely "PTT_2_0_614_713". It's even in the screenshots in the WIKI, but I can't find this package in v5.1 of the posted OEM packages. I've hunted everywhere for it. Forums, FTPs, Google... either I'm just completely missing it (possible - been at this problem for around 15 hours) or it's just not there anymore.
Can anyone possibley provide me with a link to the UltraClean RAR download? Or at the very least that specific OEM package? Even a CAB of it would suffice - I'll make an OEM. I'm about ready to give up and *gasp* flash a stock ROM so I can have PTT back until I get this solved. Please, someone point me in the right direction if you can. Thanks so much for everything the major players do on this forum. Love it!

This is extracted from Hermes, see if it works!
Very cool, thanks for the help. I have the same files from the original AT&T ROM, yet I was having problems converting it to a working CAB/OEM. However, your attachment helped me run across something else that might work. I searched for "PTT=2_0_703_715" instead of "PTT_2_0_703_715" and came up with a few more hits. I think I can build an OEM from it and eventually a CAB. If so, I'll be sure to post it all here for anyone like me.
Thanks so much!
::EDIT:: - I just realized that this IS a complete OEM. The file I was missing before was marked as system so it wasn't showing up at first. (When I recreated it manually, I got the error of it's already there...) I'll see if making this into a CAB works on the cooked ROM. If so, you're my hero. If not, you've still given me something to work with!! Thanks again.
::EDIT AGAIN:: - Well, creating a CAB from those files didn't seem to work, but it's entirely possible I just did that wrong. It installed successfully (so it claims), but I can't get the button to remap properly either via Registry during install or manually assigning it to PTT. (Mapping it to Comm Manager and MS Voice CMD works perfectly though.) Starting PTT manually (from the PTT folder under Windows after install) seems to work at first. It warns of possible extra charges and starts to provision service, but it never finishes. No error message (that I can make out... there is a scrambled text message which is what currently happens when someone who has PTT tries to message me or their status changes, etc). I'll try cooking it into a ROM and see what comes of that. FWIW, I also tried building the additional files from a stock AT&T Tilt firmware. I'm hoping someone else can come through with the original OEM files I was after (pictured in the Kaiser Kitchen Wiki from _Alex_) so I can try to turn them into a CAB. Otherwise, I'll keep tinkering with what I have to work with and see what happens.
--
Peace. ~G
Sorry for the double post, but this i something that may help others running across this thread - rusyn posted a cab that might work. Unfortunately I haven't tested it yet, but it seems like they had luck! The thread is HERE. I'm skeptical if it maps the PTT button correctly because it looks like the same files I packed myself into a CAB, yet it gave me a bit of grief with that. (Of course, I very well could have done it wrong, but it was far from my first CAB creation.)
Either way, give it a go if you were hunting like me.
