White DIamond(enhanced?) - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi guys,
I was wondering if any of you found something out about white diamond specs?
Similar thing happened with HTC Touch(Elf), white one was announced and it was enhanced ver. with double amount of RAM and ROM.
Is there any chance we will see sometnihg like that with Diamond? It would be nice if they doubled the memory and put in a bigger battery

HTC Diamond is good BUT Htc Raphael 100 aka Htc Vario IV is even better

Htc diamond is pretty impressive with its 3D touch flo,etc etc however Htc is also about to release the Htc Raphael aka T-Mobile Vario IV which had all the features of Htc diamond PLUS a lot of extras eg...
Sliding qwerty keyboard like Tytn II
Double the ROM from 256mb to 512mb
Double the RAM from 128mb to 256mb
Micro sd card slot(diamond has none)
Cpu clock speed from 400mhz to 528mhz, etc
Details are as below
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1320&view=1
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1306&view=1
Needless to say if u had not committed to buy the diamond yet hold your horses for about 1 month later approximately u can have better value for money in buying the htc raphael instead.
The only con is that the raphael is slightly heavier at 160gm instead of 110gm for diamond
Sliding qwerty keyboard like Tytn II <-- yes
Double the ROM from 256mb to 512mb <-- yes
Double the RAM from 128mb to 256mb <-- diamond has 192mb ram
Micro sd card slot(diamond has none) <-- yes, but no built in 4GB
Cpu clock speed from 400mhz to 528mhz <-- Use same core platform, CPU speed and graphics etc are identical
You forgot
1340 mAh battery (vario) as opposed to the 900 mAh (diamond)
Vario is 17mm thick, Diamond is 11.3 mm thick
Really the BIGGEST plus for diamond is size, and that IS whats going to decide it for most people. There is a significant difference in the volume of the two phones. You will see many people who are more interested in a style phone to show of to their non WM using friends buying a diamond, and more hardcore WM fans buying the vario.
Anyway, everyone knew the Vario was on its way, pictures of both were leaked at the same time.
oh and expect the vario to cost more too.
PS wrong place for this topic.. there's already one about diamond vs raphael (aka vario) in the corect place: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396150

Not really!
The Raphael and Vario differs in specs and they are not the same.
Read the specs carefully on both of these!
The Vario has better specs!!
Double the ROM from 256mb to 512mb
and the RAM from 128mb to 256mb
The ROM and RAM on Raphael is same as Diamond!
KOR!
Vario vs Diamond
The biggest 2 problems that I can see with the Vario are these... First of all, that sliding keyboard is great... but it has been confirmed that there is NO tilt such as seen on the tytn II!
The other biggest problem is the obvious measly 256 Ram. I know you COULD put a chip in, but be honest... 4gb internal memory is a much better option.
Bearing in mind that i recieve about 200 emails a DAY (IT manager!) the diamond just makes much more sense! I use a universal at the moment, and have pre-ordered the Diamond. That lack of tilit screen convinced me to wait for the "second Gen" versions of this series!
I already carry a "monster" around with me. but now i want something that is both stylish and practical. The diamond simply fits that bill! Smart enough to replace my Uni, and also enables me to do stuff like have email on the go, and super fast browsing and vid conferencing. AND i am getting fed up with people brandashing IPhones and wanting me buy one.. Coz its apple!
You also forgot to mention that this device has a tv-out!
this device?
which one? diamond definitely doesnt
so im guessing you meant raphael
thats a gimmick, ive got it on my athena, and in the box they give you vga out cable, not tv out. tv out costs 15 quid extra.
and i have never used it anyway
Rory
Yeah i mean the VARIO.
Go to a friends place, connect your phone to the tv with the tv out and play movies from your 8gb microsd card (or higher... just takes time.)
Go to work, put your presentation on your phone connect it to the beamer and give your presentation .
If these things are really possible, i'd definitely use the tv-out. I never had a phone with this so i dont know how easy to use it is though...
yeah everybody know, just like iphone 2.5->3G . they alway to limit their best technology to suck our pocket! how come a vga on 2.8" and 900mA battery... is today use,
just the UI
No not 256mb Ram but 288mb Ram
Read here and here and here
and it's 18.05 mm instead of 17mm

What about the Touch Pro? Or is that that HTC Raphael?
Yes, the HTC Touch Pro and the HTC Raphael are one and the same.
I currently own a HTC TyTN II and I want to switch to this phone too.
I've made a nice comparison table. I will now translate it to English (from Dutch) and then I will post it.
Someone from another (german) forum guessed that Diamond and Raphael are the same except keyboard and sd-slot. He found a setting in the registry about tv-out, too.
BTW: The Diamond has 528mhz, too.

That is simply not true. The HTC Raphael (aka Touch Pro) is indentical in spec to the Vario. They are the SAME device just with a slightly different casing and of course the T-Mobile customised ROM.
The Vario IV and the Raphael will both have the same ROM/RAM capacities.
TV-Out
well, as we all know the raph. and the diam. seem to share the same hardware.
so, i was wondering if any of you guys already:
a) either know how the raph. accomplishes that? (extra cable like with iphone) - plugged into what? the usb?
and
b) if there´s any chance to get that working on the diamond too.
anybody able to enlighten me about that?

when at London Diamond launch I seem to remember the Diamond linked live to a video wall unsure if this is only on development platform of the phone, the VGA of this HTC res makes this a more interesting project

Not necessarily. Some hardcore WM fans would undoubedly want to make WM seem more stylish, so it becomes more popular and therefore more rapidly, and better, developed.

The HTC specs page seems to imply that the TV Out is through their 'HTC ExtUSB™', which the Diamond has. So, therefore, with the right cable and software, you might be able to get TV Out on the Diamond. However, it probably requires special drivers and stuff that will never be made compatible with the Diamond (otherwise HTC would have put that feature on the Diamond too).
and this is in the diamond rom development because????

You are right in that the connector is the same externally, however internally they are slightly different, and that a few additional discrete passive components are required to enable TV Out.
It is unlikely that these are fitted as default. One thing is clear however that the Qualcomm chip used does support TV out, so if the main PCB tracking is common between the two devices, then there is a possibility that the tracking is already in place for the diamond!
Well what does this mean, well it means that there is a chance is could be made to work on the diamond, but I wouldn’t hold your breath!

Is the pro much better than the diamond?

I've just had a touch on contract upgrade and I'm not that happy with it, don't get me wrong, the idea behind the phone is great, it has a lot of potential. Just you gotta tweak it loads before you even use it and even then it seems a little slow as the day goes on and also battery life is awful if you are actually using the phone. Other than the obvious keyboard and bigger battery size, what improvements are there with the pro? is it smoother running with less problems? Anyone got any experiance of using the two?
depends what you want - my diamond on latest stock rom is problemn free - pro would be too thick
thickness doesn't really bother me taht much I guess. My othe rphone is a nokia n95 8gb so the pro is actually still a bit thinner. I just want fast smooth and decent battery life when being used but I need windows os for some business software I run from time to time. Just seems that everything on the diamond munches battery power, I can get my dimaond to last more than a day now which is better, but if you start using features othe rthan just phone is seems to eat the battery very very quickly, the nokia 95 is bad but nowhere near as bad as teh Diamond. Just wondered if they had tweaked the os a bit to make it more efficient
the answer is YES!
Pro is much better!
What I've seen of the Pro for now has impressed me, but I was honestly put of by its size. The Diamond is an extremely slick gadget, but for business use: of course the Pro would be better. The Diamond is geared towards the commercial market, while the Pro is geared towards the business market.

Ooooh.....now taht seems more apealing, a standard keypad !!! The touch screen thing is all well and good but basic txt messages were a nightmare. Any ideas if thats available in teh uk on contract ? Although battery life looks similar to the diamond .....
But thats 'only' a smartphone
Can't believe it has a (just) bigger battery than the Diamond though!
I find texting on the Diamond to be dead easy - which is why I am convinced I wouldn't need the keyboard on the Touch Pro (used to have a Tytn II and barely used the keyboard on that!).
you say it's "only a smart phone" other than touch screen, what would I loose out on then?

Funny enough I only realised last night that the diamond didn't have one!
Does anyone know if Diamond Pro suffers from the same GPS navigation lag as Diamond?...
HastaSSSS
funny that people say that, all I've done to mine is updat eteh radio rom to teh recommended one and nothing else. I installed tom tom on it and ran it along side my nokia n95 with built in receiver (also running tomtom) and my tomtom 500 and in all fairness all three of them were withing a split second of each other on directions.....looks liek I don't get the lag issue.
Battery on Diamond CDMA Version
I have a Touch Diamond and have had for 7 days.
The battery sucks!!!
I cannot get 8 hours connected to EVDO network.
According to carrier, every application open sucks the battery juice.
On the Touch, the battery was decent, the stock battery you could get 6/7 hours with data on, Touch Diamond maybe 3 hours.
With quality aftermarket battery, I can get 8 hours with charge to spare, why?
What is the size of battery on Touch Diamond Pro?

which device are u referring to? the smart phone s740?
the touch pro is using a 1350 mah battery...

pro
200% of RAM and ROM of diamond
Better battery
flash light
microSD
only bad thing is thicker and heavier.

mobiman2008 has it in his hands so I'm guessing it will.
I feel a little cheated as said in the MoDaCo forum...my Touch Pro already looks long in the tooth compared to this. I'm liking the idea of a 3.5mm jack, higher screen res and by the looks of it, internal storage AND SD slot.

looks nice
but happy with my diamond
looks too big.
Yeah, it's clearly to compete directly with the iphone but I think the iphone is too big. Also there's no keyboard, and from using the iphone, i really don't like that.
"115mm x 62.8mm x 12mm"
Lol, does it come with a backpack also? I thought it was a phone, not a notebook.

One could also say that this would compete with the Blackberry Thunder as this one looks very similar to the Thunder in terms of the button layout and the screen.
All it would need is multitouch capabilities and then I would ReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyReally want one!
While I most probably won't buy it, it's just annoying that HTC have released like 3-4 models in the past couple of months. I will definitely stick with my diamond (mainly because of the size factor) but this thing definitely looks great but a bit too big for my taste.
Damn, you made me regret for buying my normal sized diamond . The screen is just to small to navigate without using the stylus..
HTC are cruel to me ive been waiting for the Touch pro... then they pull this out there hat... :/ I may have to wait a little longer. Even though theres no qwerty in it.
Looks crap, no dpad??? WM is too crap to not have a dpad.
yeah i saw that already.. mm i prefer my diamond. Is looks cooler

Its not that big, its definitely smaller than a Touch Pro. For comparisons sake, here is the volume in mm^3 of HTCs more recent devices in size order:
diamond ......................51 x 102 x 11.5 millimetres..........59823
CDMA Diamond..............51x101x14mm..........................72114
HTC Touch HD.............62.8 x 115 x 12 millimetres..........86664
HTC Touch Pro..............51 x 102 x 18.05 millimetres........93896.1
HTC Touch Cruise..........58x110x15.5mm........................98890
TyTn II........................59 x 112 x 19 millimetres............125552
I think the Touch Cruise/Touch Pro dimensions are right on the border, and the TyTn II is just overly portly (i.e. a brick). You add to that the fact that the Touch Pro has a 4" screen and you've really got something serious. I hope that it has GPS, b/c that would make great use for that screen. The only thing I lament is the lack of a scroll wheel or jog dial on it.

Diamond to Blackstone (Touch HD)...any takers??

Well the release of the Touch HD is imminent for the first week of November....is there anyone out there thinking of making the transition??
I love my Diamond, but the attraction of bigger battery, bigger screen, micro SD card, etc makes this device pretty attractive...especially since all else is like for like

Love the diamond, but definitely moving to the Touch HD!
OK, just got a nice comparison video to the Diamond
hmmmm very sexy now as not much bigger dimensionally, but what a nice screen and appears quite "quick" when operating...
http://www.mobiletechaddicts.com/2008/10/14/htc-touch-hd-video-eye-candy/
Looks sexy, but i feel like they did not adapt a single byte of TouchFlo to the bigger screen capacity.
Check the home screem for instance, still just the Call history and tzhe calendar there PLUS some extra black space below... Thats ridicilous.
But I hope someone can extract that "stock" app :O:O wowooo
As long as there is no US 3G on it, i won't be getting it. I will probably get the Touch Pro when it's released on at&t. Also, the spec is all the same except a slightly bigger ram, and screen, so i'm probably not gonna waste my money on it, if i didnt get the touch pro and wait for the next update.
na i'll stick to the diamond till winmob7 devices are are comming.
also i think the advantage of the bigger akku will be reduced to the larger screen.

Agreed... and to be honest, the HD looks like a brick to me... personal opinion before I start another debate!
The Diamond is sleek and stylish...the HD looks like an iphone almost in its dimensional view and to be honest, looks bigger / thicker
In my opinion, the diamond is the perfect size/weight and thickness a phone should have. Bear in mind, I work in phone repairs so I see hundreds of models every week, some in prototype versions too and so far, the diamond is one of the most advanced yet non-intrusive in my pocket phone.
As I say, personal opinion.
You cant help to want the HD because it is an awesome device! I think we all agree on that. Specs are just perfect. If I ever had a chance I would get one (but keeping my Diamond)
But....
Diamonds have been noted by the sleeknessss and nice looks.
Yet there is no sacrifice in features. Diamond users are pretty well rounded easily above most other phones features plus the perfect size.
Greetings to all.
I played a little with a touch HD.... let be clear : the design, screen are great !!!!! I don't know about the battery life.. bugs of the TF3D and others.... but the look and feel are great !!! I Love this phone !

I have to agree to the great looks and specs of the device.
I have Diamond and looking at Touch HD I noticed 2 things:
1. It is big, big, bigger than SE P1i I have (I got Diamond as I wanted something smaller than P1 after a year of having it)
2. The hardware buttons are so near the bottom that it will be hard to use them at all. 20hand operation is inevitable, which makes it much more difficult to use in the street.

Diamond 2 vs HD

Now we have read about the new diamond 2 specification and seen HD. Which model is best?
I have today HTC Diamond and as soon as I heard that 2 is coming out soon, decided to buy it as soon as its out. But, one day, I read and saw HD in a phone shop, liked it, the size of the display for instance.
What are the advantages and disadvantages in both models??

Here have a comparasion of both: http://www.wmexperts.com/touch-diamond-2-touch-pro-2-vs-touch-hd . personnilly i choose the hd for the big screen (better web surfer) and have a better battery performance... but otherwise diamond 2 is more light and small.. regards
On of the bigger advantages of the HD is the earphone jack. If you want to use it for mediaplaying, this is a clear advantage.
Finally otherwise they are pretty much the same. I would recommend to really choose what is more important to you: the larger screen (same resolution though!) or the smaller size of the phone.
