'Tasks' is evil: Even soft reset can't get rid of it, in Kaiser - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

After 9 months of pain-free PDAing, today my Vario iii hangs every time I try to access the Tasks (yes, the Outlook tasks)
It will go into Tasks OK, but you can't enter text for a new task, and it's very slow when viewing existing tasks.
When I try to shut the program down from within itself it hangs and needs a soft reset.
Trying to force it shut from Running Programs has no effect - it says Tasks will not close and offers to end program, but it stays open.
After a soft reset, Tasks is still running even though I haven't launched it.
The PDA is generally a bit slow at the moment, even when no programs are running.
Haven't changed anything - the last few significant things I have done are a backup to my PC this morning, then uninstalling F-Secure antivirus (I did that after getting fed up of subscription reminder messages. It expired 3 months ago)
I guess a hard reset would do the trick but I want to avoid that if possible.
Any thoughts please? Thank you.

Soft Reboot

just out of curiosity how many times in a day/week/month do u do a soft reboot?
You should only ever need to soft reboot if something goes wrong (e.g. if it stops responding). So long as you keep it charged up and ocasionally close down all your open applications, you shouldn't need to routinely soft reboot.
I used to have to do this twice a day as my XDA2i was constantly locking up, but now I have removed the O2 Active screen it is just so stable and reliable I haven't soft reset the device in ages.
Sometimes software running on Pocket PCs can cause memory leaks (LOTS of PPC apps can do this, depending on various situations), so unfortunately - more often than I'd like, for sure - you HAVE to soft reboot, because your system becomes so bogged down with API calls and orphaned UI threads it grinds to a halt.

Kaiser problems - hangs when starting apps and very slow

I have an HTC TytnII (i.e., not carrier-branded) and in the last couple of days it's started behaving very oddly. Whenever I start an app (IE, CommMgr, etc - anything with a new window) it takes ages (~30 seconds plus) to start. I also see redraw problems in my email client (Pocket Outlook) and the machine is generally a big slow and labouring.
Any ideas before I hard-reset?
same problem here
I have the same problem
the worst thing is the phone feature when i want to make calls takes time to recognise the input and very slow..
tired all things, tweaks, hard reset, HTC plug in on today screen off..
i think a new rom from HTC is needed..
Yeah, I wouldn't mind but making a call is nearly impossible.
Don't think a new ROM is required, it's some state it's got itself into. Mine's been fine for the previous 3 months!
MY tytnII is slow too. Help
My tytnII sometimes just become superslow when I have more than one calls on. It takes a lot of time to open any app or go dial pad. Even while dialing, it takes 3 seconds for each button to show that it has been pressed.
Any help shall be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you try running maintenance applications like Pocket Mechanic or SKTools?? These applications clear temp files, cache folders, clear invalid registry entries etc...basically remove junk from the PDA. Make it cleaner and faster.

Soft reset per day?

Have my att tilt for over a week now and i noticed I need to perform soft reset at least twice a day. I am not sure if that's normal but I think it's annoying since I rely on it for reminders. This morning I had to do a soft reset because it froze during the night. I am not sure if I want to use it as alarm clock.
I am using the Dutty's V4 RTM and Radio 1.27.12.11.
Is there something I can do or do i need to get used to it?
Other than that and the bluetooth not working with my infiniti g35, i love it.
No problems for me, never had to do an softreset because of freezing up. Only because of my battery problem.
I soft reset a couple of times a week - just for good measure (after running memmaid or something to assure good operations). Don't think I've ever "needed" to other than during flashing and installations. Using Dutty's V2 (medium), but moments from flashing Q-Mobile 1.2. I tend to avoid things like cubes and S2U and such (justified or not, I see them as unnecessary resource hogs), but am hardly minimalistic as far as installing programs.
Perhaps you'd be happier with a "liter" ROM? I'm still testing to find the one I want to stick with. That being said, I love the V2 medium - just looking to appease my inner flashing addict.
i love it when ppl use cooked ROMs and then complain about issues...No offense to anybody. I used cooked ROMs on the Hermes as well. Not on my TILT. I do not have to reset the Tilt, but when I do is because a third party program freezes.
And also remember, any program that you install, might cause issues, because crappy programming...It's not necessary the OS...
Using Qmobile 1.2 for about a week. Might have had to soft rest once or twice. Not too bad. I think mainly because of Navizon though...
I never really had to soft reset due to crashes, but i normally do softresets after configuring registries that require soft resets. Otherwise, its on 24/7!!
I soft reset when I find my phone getting a little sluggish. It's like a computer, I figure, and I restart my computer multiple times a week. Either way, I don't think there's any harm in soft resetting too much.
I find I have to soft reset fairly often. Probably every day. I am using stock ROM but have installed a bunch of stuff, so I am suspicious of that.
I do have a Cube installed, and am considering dropping it off. Not sure if that will help or not.
I find that there are a lot of posts about various quirks on Tilt. And I will say, "Gee, that doesn't happen to me", and of course next thing you know it does. Some of the stuff is just me still learing how I can get myself into trouble. For example today my sound quit and I couldn't hear music from WMP. But it turned out that the problem was that sometime I had hit that little speaker at the top which opend the volume control, and before getting it closed I had deactivated sound. So even with volume at 100%, no sound. Interesting...
Anyway, as some said, I suspect combination of installing stuff causes issues. The more you install the more likely it will be problematic. But then, for me anyway, one reason I have this unit is so I can put stuff on it to make it productive. But then, after all, it is a version of Windows, so after a while, probably need to reload from scratch (hard reset).
yea most likely its the stuff u put on the stock? o men do some upgade.
I do soft reset about once in 14 days. I usually do it when my available RAM approaches 40 MB. Don't remember it has ever crashed on me except for a few times when usiing opera mobile.
Actually I after using the TyTn II for 3 months now I am starting to believe that the instability issues we relate with windows mobile are becoming more of a myth than a reality
I guess I soft reset too often? I do it about 15 times a day. By choice, though.

just hard reset, it may help
I normally do a soft reset every morning when I disconnect my Tilt from the computer, since Active Sync kicks in every so often during the night and drains the RAM by running. . . but it's still between 50 - 55MB, even at that. Other than that, the only time I've had to soft reset is when an app would freeze up -- which isn't very often.
most of the times i soft reset is after installing a program or vice versa when it tells me it needs to do so...rarely will i have to do it cuz it froze or whatnot
I'm in exactly the same boat as bapssystupr3m3, I only soft reset it when an installed application tells me i need to do so.
Other than that, I frequently make sure I close all the apps that are just running in the background and my kaiser appears fine.
Only soft resets when schedule back up comes up daily. Other than the scheduled backup, no resets (so far *knock on wood*).
what's wrong with resetting the phone? It doesn't hurt..
I'm using the stock HTC rom, and can only remember one time when something locked up on me (a third party app) and I ended up soft-resetting, the only other times I've done it have been after installing/configuring new things. I guess in the normal course of things I maybe reset... once a week? Sometimes more, but never for any negative reason.
I'd say the uptime on this device is at least as good as my last Symbian-based phone, and the myth of Windows Mobile being unstable is just that - a myth.
I'm using the stock Tilt rom with just a few things installed and have to reset most days. Yesterday when I woke up I discovered my phone had crashed at 11:30 the previous evening when someone had called me. Today when I woke up an hour late I reset the phone because my alarms hadn't worked nor were the notifications for messages...
I soft-reset once everyday (in the morning). It's part of my daily routine now. I use ClearTemp program to clear everything (start menu, cache, etc.) and then soft-reset using that program as well.

A Different Kaiser Stand-By Issue

My kaiser has the AT&T rom from factory after using OZ IM, the IM program that comes installed, I've noticed that my phone randomly comes out of stand-by not only when signed in, but also when the program is closed (even after a soft reset).
Also, just going on the program, how can I change it to stop saying "Notification" on my Today screen, which I think is the cause for my stand-by issue.
By the way, IM+ and Beejuve aae currently giving me problems. Computer crashed, lost the installers and I don't want to mess with it again at this time...

Touch Flo not Loading

I've had my Sprint Touch Diamond pretty much as soon as they came out so in a couple of months it will be 1 year old. I've never really had that many issues until now.....
In the past month I have had to reset (ie return phone back to how it was when originally delivered) my phone 4 times !! And in every instance it's been because Touch Flo refuses to load.....
At first I thought it was because I was installing loads of [email protected] little applications etc, but I think it might be down to Microsoft my phone beta...... Although the program has helped me retrieve pretty much everything I needed to retrieve after each reset, it doesn't take long before it fails to sync and everything seems to go bad again.
Last night I tried un-installing the myphone beta app, and due to how slow everything runs when touch flo refuses to load I had to leave it over night...... By the time i got up in the morning it was un-installed and Touch Flo was running....
I re-booted my phone mid-morning today, and although Touch flo took around 5mins to load it did at least load, albeit with the following message...
cannot load \windows\myphoneruntime.exe which suggests it didn't fully install properly..... Anyway I decided to install a registry editor and see if i could find any rogue entries but I couldn't use the reg editor like i would on Windows XP for instance and so drew a blank.
To try and un-install my phone beta properly, I re-installed it and synced which went without a hitch. Then I rebooted my phone and again Touch Flo does not run.... So I'm almost certain something in this My Phone beta is a problem which is probably why its still in beta....
Just wondered if anyone else had similar problems / Issue's? And also if anyone can give me advice regarding the reg editor......
Thanks in advance....
Never had that problem with the TouchFlo 3D. although it does seem to be a bit slow at times. Have you tried just...blowing your phone, and reloading the stock sprint ROM? maybe just starting over fresh?
Re-instating the stock Sprint ROM is what I've had to do 4 times this month. Not 100% sure why I keep getting the issue back, but it does seem to be Microsft myphone Beta that is a constant link. Maybe I need to reset device 1 last time and manually re-instate contacts etc etc etc
It’s a simple calendar plugin that adds a tab to the TouchFlo 3D interface.
This is not a Cab Installation , so you will have to use transfer the files to your device via Active Sync / Mobile Device Center or using a File Explorer.

same problem
I had a similar experience a few days ago. It seems I tried to sync via My Phone beta and then canceled it midway. After a few soft resets and wondering what was going on, I let My Phone sync again completely. After that everything was back up to speed but I uninstalled the beta ASAP. I was pretty happy with it but this is aggravating.
Same problem here!
In addition to this, The antenna shows no service (although service is active and I can make calls) and the phone's GUI is very slow to react to any action.
I have an old Juicy ROM (from last Fall) which I liked very much for its stability. I did install and run the beta application of geocaching.com for windows mobile and now TouchFlo won't start anymore no matter what I do to restart my phone.
I will have to back up everything and reinstall a new ROM hoping that this will fix the problem.
If anyone has an idea on how to fix this, let us know
[update]
The phone could not connect to ActiveSync and thus I was unable to flash a new ROM.
In order to resolve the issue, I cleared the storage (but left the internal storage intact) and rebooted. The phone was just fine after this, but I took the opportunity to install the latest Mighty ROM.
cheers.
Having the same problem with mine.... I had the original Sprint ROM on it when it started happening.
I initially tried a clear/erase everything from the OS (hard reset?) and that didn't help.
I tried updating it with the latest official ROM from Sprint/HTC. No dice.
Funny thing is if I wait like 12+ hours after turning it on, sometimes Touch Flo finally loads.
Other issues ive noticed while its acting like this is, opera crashes on load, active sync connects but wont sync contacts, and the battery life seems about half of what it normally is.
Short of the story is I am having Sprint send me a replacement.
I had the same problem and solved it by flashing mightyrom couldn't connect to activesync either so i had to hold power down volume and reset switch and do the flash from that coloured screen. i think it has something to do with a memory flaw and wipeing everything out solves it.
