net connection notification bubble & unessary services processes - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

1. Is there anyway to disable the notification bubble when Tilt notifies its connecting to the network, tired of preesing hide.
2. Is there any resource that identifies unessasary startup services/processes so as to disable them.
3. By the by has anyone expierienced the following.... Upon using the power button to turn off the backlight, the backlight will flicker on and off intermittently... seems to only happen when connected to power.

I just figured this out for number 1 and wanted to post it for posterity
Set the REG_DWORD Options to 0 in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}

OMG pennywisdom! I have been looking and looking for this information for a looooong time. Thanks a lot!!!!
BTW, does this also disable the 'could not connect' notification bubble? This bubble often comes up while using tomtom navigator in an area where the network coverage is poor and tomtom traffic keeps trying to connect. The bubble comes up, then if you don't acknowledge, tomtom loses focus and screen goes into screensaver...... and so on. Highly annoying! and dangerous while driving!!

For a "resource identifier" I use Dinarsoft's MemMaid and SkTools. They have a clean option that sorts out registry issues and finds bad schorcuts and uninstall data. You could also see if the rom your using has HTC task manager in settings and just shut down open apps from there.
The screen flash when you press the power button happens on some roms, i forgot how to disable it (been out of the scene for a bit) but i'm sure you'll find the solution if u search for it.

Why do a reg edit when its already available in the settings?
Go to Sounds & Notifications in settings, notifications tab on the bottom (how you change your ring/msg tones) Click the "Event" drop down list and select Connection Established, uncheck the box "Display message on screen" .. there you go.

The sounds & Notifications fix does not prevent the 'could not connect' notification bubble for me. Too bad - I have a basement office where connectivity is intermittent at best. Even although I have a rock solid WiFi connection the 'could not connect' notification bubble interupts me a lot.

The short answer is that I had no idea it was there, but it's good to know now so I don't have to remember that registry entry. Thanks!

Notification "Bubble" Question

First, I have searched these forums using both Google and its own search engine in an effort to answer my own question. I came across a good number of posts that raised the same question but did not have an offered solution. If I have missed the correct post, please link it.
The question is simply "how do I eliminate the "Notification" bubble that pops up and reminds me that I have unread e-mail AND the "Notification" tab at the bottom of the screen that has to be dismissed before my standard soft-key "Calendar" reappears?"
I have a program that tells me how many unread e-mails I have; I do not need another one. I want the phone to play a sound (if desired) on a incoming e-mail and then just give me the icon that shows the number of unread e-mails. I do not want to see the "Notification" bubble pop up at the bottom of my screen or the remaining/returning "Notification" soft-key on the bottom bar.
I have already gone into the Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications and turned everything off related to e-mail. I have even tried editing the registry, as suggested in another post such as:
______
"...... found this on another site. It may help you..
1. Install a registry editor like Resco File Explorer’s add-on registry editor or PHM registry editor.
2. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER
3. Tap control panel>notifications
4. Tap default
5. Tap options
6. Choose what value will be applicable to you and replace the default number with it (for XDA Atom, the number was 13, I replaced it with 8 to suit my preference):
0 show icon
1 show icon and play notification sound
2 show icon and vibration
3 show icon and vibration and play notification sound
4 same as 0
5 same as 1
6 same as 3
7 same as 3
8 show icon and notification bubble
9 show icon and play notification sound and show notification bubble
10 show icon and notification bubble and vibration
7. If you want to configure how long the notification bubble will stay on the screen, tap on duration instead of options. Change the number there into the number of seconds you want the notification bubble to stay up."
____________
The foregoing does not work for me - or I may be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
I have had the same problem no matter what ROM I use. Cannot figure out how to turn off email notification.
How about trying:
Settings
Personal
Sounds & Notifications
Notifications
Messaging: New E-mail Message
& uncheck Display Message on screen.
Thanks GSLEON3 for the suggestion....but as stated in paragragh 4 of my post, I have already tried that and I still get the nuisiance notification. I have also tried editing a few of the suggested registry values (with no luck obviously) and, according to my search of the forums, this is not the first time the question has been asked.
I am confident one of the brainy ROM modders has the answer.......maybe?
it can't be done, the only thing that you can get rid of is the message automatically popping up, which is what the settings change refered to in paragraph 4 does. You will always get the ntoification icon and on the left soft key. Someone would have to hack the resources that tie into tmail.exe (tmail.exe is the app that the mail client uses).

Thanks. Now I can quit worrying about trying to fix it. It is, however, a nuisance.

Had the same problem until I found this post

Disable SMS received notification
The following setting disable SMS notification and sms recieved icon on screen
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSAvailable = 0
To enable again
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSAvailable = 1
The upside is that it gets rid of the bubble, the downside is that is disables all native notification for SMS. I'm using PocketCM, so I still get visual notification, but no sound or vibration.
I have come accross that post as well...unfortunately, it only addresses the issue of how to disable the SMS notification (which other registry tweak apps do as well). I am more interested in disabling the e-mail notification bubble, that has to be "Viewed" or "Dismissed"...............
Thank you (anyway) for the input.

Disabling the notifications bubble?

Can the notification bubble be disabled?
Its absurd that in the sounds and notifications, I uncheck all notifications from all events and still get the "Dismiss" button for a notification of a missed call or voicemail or email or mms.
I really dont need to see new email counter increment, plus notification/dismiss bubble at the bottom of the screen and finally the envelope icon at the top. Im not that dense.

You need to uncheck "show message on screen" from the connection established event under sounds and notifications.
no that just dosnt allow the message to pop up on the notification. i dont believe there is anyway to disable the icon that pops up in the top.
but what you can do is disable the message that pops up

The instructions I posted prevent the notification bubble from popping up, which is exactly what the OP was trying to accomplish.
no i think he means the icon that pops up on the top not the message that comes up when ever something happend...
at least thats what i think he means...
Which one
I dont mind the envelope on top, what I do mind is when I have the keypad locked and it take 4-10 button presses to get the normal soft key navigation back.
Example:
Missed call, new email, new mms, new voicemail. Each has a seperate "notification" that has to be viewed and dismissed in 2 keystrokes.
So for example, on a missed call only:
1) Turn display back on
2) Unlock (left softkey)
3) Unlock touch right mid screen (or *)
4) click softkey notification (left softkey)
5) click dismiss softkey (right softkey)
As you can see, it takes 5 buttons to get my left softkey back to normal and get rid of the notification bubble. The handset icon with the ! on it is sufficient to indicate the missed call.
Now, how about a missed call, which of course causes a new voicemail:
1) Turn display back on
2) Unlock (left softkey)
3) Unlock touch right mid screen (or *)
4) click softkey notification (left softkey)
5) click dismiss softkey (right softkey)
6) click softkey new message
7) click softkey dismiss
Now add new voicemail, missed call, new email, new text message and you can see it takes a ton of annoying keypresses to get rid of the bubble notifications and return the softkeys to normal where I expect them to be whenever I need to use my phone.
I have everything unchecked in the sound/notify section so that doesnt help.
If I dont use Today but instead, a Today replacement, does that go away?
Thanks
take a look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1843894
goto HKCU\control panel\notifications\
and change whatever you want to not show up to 0 or 1 in the options. What i do is set everything to 0 and i used to have a 1 ring lag due to that stupid bubble but as a disclaimer i use S2U2 to Handel the phone calls and phone alarm to Handel notifications so i am able to turn all this stuff off and still have the notifications i ask for.
No Luck on that thread
No luck on that thread. I still get the missed call changing the softkey to Notification and then a bubble, then dismiss.
I tried setting all the "Options" in each key under notifications to zero. So far, I think they all went away except missed call.
I have also been looking for a solution to disable the left soft-key notification / notification bubble. It seems that anyone who receives a lot of calls, voicemail and e-mail on there phone would find this "feature" annoying. I've tried various phone alarm type applications and not had any luck.
You're idea of replacing the today screen sounds like a good idea.
...but so far I just have to disable all on-screen notifications in notification settings and then press the left-soft key over and over again to dismiss all those stupid notifications.

Absolutely! I also can not understand why it seems impossible to get rid of this "feature". Specialy since HTC Home Plugin (and lot of other today plugins) make this notifications absolutely unnecessary.

Tilt Connection Pop Up Bubble

Hi,
I use Telenav on my AT&T Tilt for GPS navigation. I would LOVE to know how to disable that annoying pop up bubble that appears when the phone is connecting to media net. When I'm using telenav and getting turn by turn directions that darn little bubble pops up and covers most of the screen every 5-6 minutes and I have to tap hide so i can see the screen again. This is extremely annoying and dangerous as it's kind of hard to tap the little "hide" button on the pop up bubble. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Eric.

Use kaiser tweak.
But YOU have to search for it
I have kiaser tweak. Which option to i use?
No need for Kaiser Tweak
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications
Select Connection Established from the drop down list
Uncheck Display Message

Is There Something Better For Notifications? (Stock Stinks!!)

Hi,
I have been searching and looking for something to replace the mechanism for notifications on my TP CDMA (Sprint).
When my calendar notification, SMS notification or voicemail notification activates, its a tiny icon in the status bar at the top, which I have to tap multiple times and then I get the annoying HTC status screen and then I need to tap the icon for VM, or alert to see what my notification is...
I find this very annoying and its easy to miss important notices.
Isnt there a better way? Ideally, something that would automatically play a ringtone and display a window on the screen (even after standby) until I dismiss it....
Does anyone know of something like this?
Thanks!
If you go into Settings -> Sounds & Notifications -> Notifications
You can configure how the phone notifies you about each event, so for a SMS you'd set for it to "Display Message on Screen"
Granted this is not a huge amount a flexibility and a lot of the time the pop up dissapears and one would have to click up at the status bar again to get it down, yet it is still options.
I haven't looked into differenet notification programs / systems as I am quite content with the stock ones just changed to my liking.
Personally, I hate the pop up, always comes up in the middle of something and just gets in the way.
Is there any way to actually change the look of the bubble ???? I'd ideally like it to be centered on the screen, instead of at the bottom. Also, if you looked more like a bubble, or something else, that would help too. I've been Googling around for about half an hour, and have found NOTHING except changing the bubble color on iPhone and some apps for changing those.
Why aren't there any on WM ????

Francarl is working on trying to change the look of the bubble Check out FingerMenu in the Dev & Hacking section. It should look something like that if it works.

I just set everything to vibrate and flash. I have rlToday setup with 4 BIG finger friendly icons for SMS, Email, Missed Calls, and Voice Mails at the bottom of my Today screen... with their respective counters. A Vibrate and Task icon is enough already. Looking at the today screen will let me easily see anything I need to worry about.
rlToday is a today plugin based on XML which you can create to look like anything you want. Highly customizable.
dontforget works but appears initially to conflit with s2u2 so I'm using dontforget insdtead. hope to find a way to do both.

I hate how I have to constantly go back and turn on "display" for reminders. It disables itself all the time.
dontforget is doing that? not had that issue.
Hey, i have used PhoneAlarm for a few years with past phones, just loaded it on my new Verizon TP, works great as usual. It is not free, ($15 i think), but has been well worth it. Google PocketMax PhoneAlarm (you want the pro version). It is very customizable (skins, custom sounds and intervals for different events), has profiles that can change alarms based on your location, meeting status, or manual selection, and supports TF3D. It also supports a popup on new event and with the notification softkey that allows you to easily click and address the event. I started using it because it allows custom repeat alarms (different sounds after a certain period of time as well as custom intervals). I needed something to alarm pleasantly a few times then an obnoxious alarm every 20 seconds to wake me while sleeping. I'm a paramedic in sometimes remote locations dispatched via this phone, so i NEED to get messages. I've tried several others and always come back to PhoneAlarm. Just my 2 cents...
phoneAlarm.

V40 ThinQ disable green pop-up bubble during active phone calls

I've been digging around trying to find an answer, and I think the only one I found was https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/disable-floating-popup-call-t3142001 which essentially says you need root / can't disable it.
When making a phone call (not an incoming call, but during an active call), if you switch to a different app/screen, a green floating pop-up bar appears. You can drag this bar all over the screen, but I really couldn't care less about it. It's not useful to me as the only status it shows is the call duration. If it at least showed my microphone/speaker status, it'd be useful. But I really couldn't care less how long I've been on a call.
Is there any way to disable or otherwise configure this feature? I can't even figure out what it's called.

Go into the default dialer app and select the Dial tab. Click on the 3 dot menu in the upper right and select Call Settings then select Additional Settings. There is an option called "Show voice calls while in an app". Select that and you have the option to change from a pop-up.

That's only for incoming calls. He's talking about the in-call timer floating button. Never have been able to disable it since G2. It sucks and is annoying af.

Yes, this is exactly it. Stinks that there's no way to disable it. It's almost entirely useless.
