Sidekick aim for the G1 - G1 Apps and Games

i believe that the im program on the sidekicks are the best ever put into a phone way better than jabber, im+, slick and all others.
i've been wondering if there is any way to get the sidekicks 3 or lx's im program on the G1
i know that its possible to get a developer's kit for the sidekick which allows you much access to the sidekick. but i don't know if someone would be able to get the aim application from the sidekick, send it to a developer and have him/her port it to android. i don't know if what i am saying is far fetched or not. If it isn't i would be willing to help in anyway, i can get a sidekick but I'm not a developer but if someone could give me instruction i could be able to dump the im program from it.

It's not so much the AIM program on the SK family that makes the experience great. It's Danger's backend servers. They keep the trickle of data going so that your AIM never loses connection and such things.

I'm not just talking about not losing connection... I'm talking about how easy it to use for example unlike the g1's default I'm when starting a cnversation you buddy is temporarily moved to another category. It also take much longer to load buddies (even though the sk isn't quite fast either) there also a bunch of little things that make it nice.. like how it save recent screennames that use ur aim, how you are able to see a buddy's FULL away messag (im+ only let's u see part of it.) Also the ease in which you can swith from conversation to coversation. And there are plenty other things that make the experience great.

Just download meebo. its in the market now. free aim app that uses internet to send messages and not your text.

use meebo!

thats what i am using but meebo:
1) doesn't allow you to change your status (ex away, busy, unavailable) also
2) it does not allow you to save login info(not as important as number 1)
3) can not add buddies

sidekick lx im works great when the G is there, but i had horrible service with the sidekick alot of miss calls where my phone never wrong or i was just missing the G all together, sidekick is too limited

aim
I believe you guys are missing his whole point,a lot of ppl that had the sidekick upgraded to the g1 and they really liked the sidekicks aim and maybe thought that the g1 aim was gonna be equal or even better on the g1 there's a lot of things that just don't add up with the aim.a lot of ppl loved going into the aim chat rooms when they had there sidekick and now we have the g1 and can't do any of those things so that's basically what he's saying meebo is cool but it doesn't add up to the sidekicks aim.

its coming soon im beta testing an im client that is a lot like the one on my sidekick it still has some bugs but much better then others on the G1

What would the name of this program be?

its palringo

Only issue I have with Meebo is it disconnects randomly.

i agree, the sidekick aim is way better than any aim for the g1 right now. meebo's most annoying thing is even when you are signed off, it still keeps its icon on the status bar, and i have to restart the phone to get it to go away. all the other aim apps (including the one that came with the phone) only send 1/3 of my messages. wtf?

Some noob questions...

So I finally got a Treo and of course I want to mod it like every other phone I had. I have a couple of questions so hopefully no one will mind helping me out.
I installed the "official" AT&T WM6 ROM and would like to remove some of the apps or links in programs. Like the Get TeleNav and a couple of other ones. How can I go about doing this?
Also for now I am using AT&T Prepaid until my Sprint/Nextel contract runs out in a couple of months. So after each call or web session I get a notification for my balance and what the transaction cost me. With a Razr I have I can remove that option by doing a seem edit? Is there such a thing or way with the treo, maybe a reg edit?
Would you please provide any links to programs that can help me mod the phone. Maybe something to make different themes or whatever else?
Thanks in advance. I searched around but it is like 2:30 AM here and I can't see any more.

Blackberry Messenger on a TILT

is it possible?
At work one of my coworkers told me someone got it to work on their tilt and wanted to know if I know how to do it. I googled but didn't find anything.
it states in the article that you can read message sent to you, but can't send them. doesn't make sense.
http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-8-basics-how-use-blackberry-messenger
It's my understanding that BB IM uses the BB pin. Pin messaging is not fully implemented in BBC. Implementation also varies by BBC device. Hopefully they will add more functionality in yet-to-come versions.
YES

It is.
See, "How To Enable BB CONNECT TO WM6.1 Based ROM credit to elec.two" or "...6.0..." on the following thread:

This thread should help with quite a bit on your Tilt questions.
Thanks alot I will try this out with my friends phone. Appreciate it. He told me he was able to read the pin messages but not send out. Thanks alot though I'll keep this post updated onhow it goes.

Just wanted to add here so that when/if others come across this like I did... The above does *NOT* help you with Blackberry messenger as the OP asked... It *DOES* however help you get bbconnect running on a cooked rom.
There is no Blackberry Messenger available for PPC yet, though RIM is supposedly developing the "Blackberry Application Suite"... Though there's be no news on it since the initial press release so don't hold your breath!

Is your friend's phone on a BES? Or just bbconnect? If he is on the enterprise server then security settings might be an issue. I had the same issue when trying to do a wireless sync with MS Exchange. Read the article below regarding the "protected groups" in windows server 2003. He can not be a part of any of the groups listed towards the bottom of the article. On top of that he would need to add the BESADMIN user rights for "send as" and "receive as" rights to his name in active directory. Do some more research on connecting a bb 8830 to BES with Exchange and you will understand.

i wish gmail would come out with a googletalk and gmail push for wm6 like they did for blackberry...the blackberry edition of the google software is awesome.. my sister has black berry and i signed her on gchat and it hasn't signed off in 20 days
I'll be the first to admit I don't know squat about blackberry, but I do have in my hands a CD labelled 'HTC TyTN II Blackberry Connect / Blackberry Connect Desktop setup' if the files from that would be any use?
Thanks but no. Blackberry connect software is readily available from here as well as sems site.
What Sabian is trying to tell everyone is that there is no Blackberry Messenger in Blackberry Connect.
I'm not surprised pin messaging is not part of bbconnect since it is a compelling application for blackberry devices. Rim's stock price is doing well and they are selling tons of devices now. They have no incentive to cut into this by adding messenger functionality to blackberry connect or releasing their "virtual blackberry" vaporware.
However, there are two things that may make them reconsider and soon.
First, another massive network failure like the one last year will have a lot of folk wondering why they are paying premium prices for a service that can't guarantee 100% uptime and are less than open about admitting fault.
Second, is the 800lb gorilla that's coming this summer, the 3g iphone with Exchange sync capability. No use arguing pluses or minuses about it, a lot of execs and management will want to be able get their email on their new toy.
Rim needs to get their act in gear. They think they can answer this by coming out with their own iphone-like device. The real answer is full blackberry functionality in blackberry connect for pda phones including the iphone.
Don't know, I have seen the newly released specs on Iphone 2 and I am less than impressed...
No front video camera to any market...
Only 2Mpix rear camera still
No Copy & Paste
No memory upgrades possible still
No user changeable battery still
plastic case throughout instead of the steel back (though I was always a little concerned about using a steel back on a phone....)
Price has dropped, but it's not something I would go for in a phone. If they are targetting business users, something as fundamental as copy / paste would pretty much be an essential. It's like marketing a computer for the 21st century without a right click option... oh, wait...
(and yes, I know on the newer mighty mouse you do have right click capability, which is turned off by default)
Yeah if Pin to Pin worked perfectly on AT&T Tilt. I would add that data plan to my line. It's so much simpler like that and besides all my friends have blackberry. It would be cool to message them for free.
Iphone for Business!! Ha!! Ha!! Ha!!
Imagine typing up an email that has to go out on a emergency on the iPhone. The typos would be insane. You have to touch the screen all the time. It isn't practical. I still prefer the Qwerty Keyboard.
My next phone will either be the Touch Pro or the Xperia. Hopefully this site will add this phone even though it isn't made by HTC. It would suck to find another community like this.
BB connect feature for Non Blackberry Devices is 45.00 a month.
I pay 50 dollars a month for unlimited messaging and data on top of my 70 dollar voice plan. My monthly bill is 140.00-160.00. I only have one line. They should seriously drop the price down on these things. Sprint already let it be known that "Data, GPS, Messaging, Airtime doesn't cost a thing. That's why they have the 100 dollar everything plan. I would switch but then I remembered their service sucks.
I know it's off-topic but yeah.. had to vent.
Yes it is available. I use on mine. Just download BB client software from ATT website install it then call ATT and subscribe to BB plan. After call your company IT and let them set it up.
Can you explain better? I didn't find any BB client software on the ATT website. Please share the wealth. I need to get BB messenger by saturday because I am going to Beijing for the olympics and I don't want to pay 99 cent each text.
For the last time... THERE IS NO BLACKBERRY MESSENGER IN BBCONNECT.
It is available BB Client for Windows Mobile !!!
I couldn't attach this cab file for some reason but you can download "BBConnect_WM6_Professional_BB_41.0.0.84.cab" from here: http://rusyn.4shared.com
so did anyone figure out how to use blackberry messenger on the htc tilt?

default IM program

I accidentally deleted that OZ instant messenger, where can I get it again?
I have been scouring for free IM alternatives but haven't found any good ones, so I want to just go back to the default one.

It depends if you want IM'ing thorough data plan or text messages. If Data than I use the WLM included with version 10.6.0034.0800. If through your text messaging plan that Oz is the way to go I guess. I would have a look at P1taters downloads, he may have a copy of both of those IIRC.
honestly it doesn't matter, I have unlimited everything. thanks
I've personally always enjoyed Palringo. Seems to be low overhead, and connects to a good variety of services (AIM, Y!, Google, MSN, ICQ etc....) I believe it is still free.
http://www.palringo.com/download.php
I use BeeJive IM for now, untill you have to pay for it. It's really easy to use and it has an iphone feel to it.
look right above your thread and youll see a new thread about AIM for windows mobile new software is out now....you will want to use this software for im'ing way more the OZ...OZ is a trash software and it doesnt let you even sign on unless you connect to ATT data connection. You cant use it through your wifi because ATT "forces" you to connect to their data internet and charge you to be able to use OZ....its trash software and theres no point in even looking for the install cab in your device, get the new AIM for windows mobile that just came out, trust me...or even palringo or any other im client service other then OZ
palringo
I have to agree the Oz software is crap .. Palringo is decent.. just doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the oz but it runs pretty smooth
The new JiveTalk is very impressive (though in beta still) and it is free
Device>Windows>C_OZPocketPC.cab will reinstall OZ Instant Messenger

How does it depend on something. The guy said he wanted the OZ one and didn't like the others. I don't see there being anything dependend.. At least tell the guys to search or something, don't just say, "well I don't like that software" lol.
oh nice, looks like at least one person addressed his issue. I will give some backup support incase that doesn't work. Check this thread, and remember. USE SEARCH, this took me 1 minute to find.

Yea, if you have unlimited everything, go for Beejive's JiveTalk for WM or try out the new AIM for WM.
But definitely, JiveTalk.

Oh really, I thought I answered his question pretty well. Some people still don't understand that some of the IM apps out there are either Data or SMS. Let's think if the guy didn't have a GD data plan and he used a program that depended on data to send messages, bam huge bill and then he'd come back here *****ing to me about it. And I don't recall saying that I don't like OZ. You might want to read and comprehend the whole post before you start to flame someone next time genius.

Porting windows programs

What are the limits?
Is there anyone around that may be up to doing it for me for practice/a fee?
I want to possibly pay someone to port a low graphics, very simple windows game, an mmorpg but not a fighting game, just a social network, mainly for younger kids.. If interested email me, or reply to this.. and we can work out how to get in contact on AIM or something and ill tell you anything you need to know, the name of the game, etc.
Email: [email protected]
Thanks in advance >D
Can you be more specific plz?
Do you have the windows sourcecode?
If so:
- what program language
- which DirectX/openGL version
- which framework version.
If you do not have the source code it needs to be rebuild from scratch. Not sure about copyright laws though... Might not be legal, dispite te fact it's programmed all over again.
It would be much easier to discuss on AIM...
Source code probably wont be accessable, but theres not much need for it i dont think, once you understand how the game works.. its not complicated at all, like i said, its geared towards younger kids..
Im pretty sure the way the game works is a central server that everyones client talks to, and im pretty positive its like 100% text, and the client translates it into the light graphics of the game.. Its pretty hard for me to explain without just showing you the game or getting on AIM.. All the commands of movements, etc, can be done threw simple text commands.. such as, to turn you send the server ">" and your character turns..
As to copyrighting, im pretty sure the owners dont care. I know the game IS copyrighted but there are so many programs that talk directly with the server and allow complete control of your character/the game without any use of the client i cant imagine a mobile engine wouldnt be aloud..
ALSO the engine dosnt have to be exactly like the game, even if it requires me running something on my computer that the phone talks to as a server, and get the information from, its fine for me, however you need to jerry-rig it is cool.. The UI dosnt have to be the same, all i need is half the screen a chat window, and the other half scaled down graphics, they are already VGA i think, if not its 800x600 either way not far off from a cell phone
Ive emailed the owner of the game, and he personally replied(rather quickly) saying that the source code isnt available, but they certainly dont mind people making 3rd party applications like this. He said theyre actually developing a platform for the Iphone.. So if someone can help me, it would be awesome..
He also said that the protocols that the game uses are readily known and available if you google them, so it wont be hard to figure out, i dont think.
It would be -great- if there was a way to make it in java, and thus cross-platform.
The game is called "Furcadia", and the protocols can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/xemberad/_dump/_furc/rfp.html
Please, if you have the time, and know how, at least reply with the level of difficulty this would be..

I'm holding out for Palringo. An Android version is supposedly in the works.
yea they have meebo, which 'works' but its not designed to run continuously in the BG plus other than listing s/ns and allowing messaging it doesnt do a damn thing.
- can't remember s/ns
- doesn't display nicknames
- can't add delete or modify buddies
- can't view aways and the like
- amongst other DUH things.
