software to fix GPS? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have a htc Kaiser and i want to know how many software out there that can speed up the gps? I tried quickGPS and SeaSGEE. Does anyone know anything else beside those 2 softwares? thank you

Try enabling the A-GPS option via AdvanceConfig or KaiserTweak (both available on forum for download).
You can play around with Franson's GPS Gate. Its very good software.
Cheers,
Chris

I installed gpstest, then run it, and then Google Maps and Live search are almost instantaneous.

TomTom and other maps...

I have a feeling that this will become quite a discussed post. The *taster* version of TT that comes with the Kaiser allows you to download only one map - and the selection is limited.
I have a TomTom Go in my car and was wondering if I can use the map data from there? I have all of Western Europe. Obviously I'll need a memory card capable of holding it but the real question is - can you use TT Go maps on TT Mobile?
R
I suspect that the maps are attached to a particular device.
Depends on the map version you have.
I guess the Kaiser has a version 6 Tomtom. Therefore you need at least map designed for that version.
In general the maps for the Go and the WM versions of TomTom are identical. Theoretically it should work.
BUT:
Apart from that you also need a device specific activation code belonging to the map/device combination. Your maps are obviously allready activated for your Go, so you cannot activate them on a second device.
Maybe the TomTom helpdesk (forum on their site) can help you out.
Taster version of TomTom with Kaiser......is it possible to uninstall it so that I can install my own tomtom which I have got on my current sd card in trinity, as it is activated and with all maps? I mean, is this tatser verison included in ROM or is it removable from settings?
Thanks

I believe i noticed in the "retail TyTN II unboxing" video, that TomTom resides on a CD with applications in the box.... So that would mean you have to install it yourself, and in that case you can go with your own full copy of TomTom...
What i would like to know is, if version 6.030 from my Trinity will run smoothly on the Kaiser...???

tomtotm isnt on the rom. so there will be no need to uninstall anything. just put your version on and use it. its supplied on the software disk. I'll be putting my own version of tomtom onmine when i get my micro sd card hopefully tomorrow
but the version on the CD Rom is the latest (6.0.32)
the 6.0.32 version of TTN6 is specific for WM devices with built-in GPS, like the Kaiser.
So, best option is to use the app from the kaiser package and your own maps.
I think you can just copy the map folder from the TomTom Go to an microSD card and see if it is working.
I bet it is.

Legally? No. TomTom licenses you maps per device, so what you have is licensed to your GO.
Practically? Yes. You'll need one of the many keygens out there....
Can you nav guys help. I've never used GPS with my TyTN. I'm considering a TyTN II and have some questions.
Can you use the built in GPR without an external antennae with Google Maps with the TyTN II? Or do you need the TomTom or other software?
I like using Google maps.

You don't need an antenna or extra software like tomtom. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly setting up the ports to use to get say Google Maps or other software to see the inbuilt GPS - but you get there in the end!

Mike:
Thanks again for your reply. I think I may pick up the TyTN II here pretty quickly. I just wanted to hear that the built in GPS actually does something.

What port are you using in Googlemaps? I've left it at auto, which doesn't work :S
Thanks!
People said that Googlemaps is not so friendly with long waiting to get satelite fix. So, Googlemaps tend to disconnect and wont tell you anything.
The workaround (not nice btw), is to start TomTom to get satelite fix, then quit.
After that Googlemaps will be able to connect to the GPS and works fine.
But, sorry for asking, what are the good things of Googlemaps compare to, let say TomTom or Route66, etc. Of course, it is FREE, but other than that?
Is Googlemaps available for all continent (Europe?) ?
bear in mind that google maps is an API, not just a web site.
It is possible to write location sharing apps etc for google maps, a mobile interface would be very cool.
Guys where on earth is the tomtom cab file for version 6? I only got 2 cd's, 1 applications which only has 3 apps (but not tomtom) and the starter cd which I did look all over? Is there more than 2 cd's?
Please help, I just got the kaiser today and want to install tomtom.
Thanks.

I don't have Tomtom6 on any CDs either , I got the units from SuperiorGadgets, they are HTC Tytn II. And I tried Mapopolis, map4pda, igo 2007, Destinator 6, none can see GPS.
What is the hardware port? I checked the GPS CP app, it shows COM4: as software, none for hardware. I tried couple of settings there, none worked so far.

Google MAPS and GPS

Hi there,
I tried to use Google Maps for Windows Mobile in my Kaiser, but when it try to use the GPS it returns an error about can't establish communication with GPS.
Anyone knows how to configure Google Maps WM for work with Kaiser GPS.
B.T.W. How I can get the same Maps from Java MIDP Google Maps application into Windows Mobile native Google Maps software? Because maps for my country can be seen in Java app but not in native software.
Regards,
Taguapire.

This was answered in the GPS thread a couple of posts down. Google Maps does not wait long enough for the connection. There is a work around, but it is a Google Maps issue:

Mike
There aren't that many threads here yet in this forum. Try a search. This has been answered several times before.
I have no problem using the built-in GPS and Google Maps. I have it set to use the "Set by Winodws" option. I have only seen an error when I cant get a fix in the alloted time, and using the QuickGPS download feature usualy resolves that.
Regards - John

Explain how you start up Google Maps then, maybe the ones who have issues can use your method
There was good information in one of the posts in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330634&page=3) about how to use Google maps. Find post by zachto in second or third page of that thread. You have to download GPS Viewer. Set GPS to COM4 and 4800 baud. Then you activate GPS as a "cold start" (one of the options of GPS viewer) and leave it on. Then open Google Maps and give it the command to "track location". It works from there. GPS viewer is at http://pocketmap.com/accessories/GpsViewer.exe
It's simpler than that, just use any GPS application to get a fix, BEFORE trying google maps. After you can get a fix, Google Maps will work. After this, subsequent use of Google Maps does not require any other programs to get a fix.

About Google Map...

I was wondering is there a way that i could just get a full map of my area so i don't need wifi to use it? or is there a way to save the parts i've searched for while i'm on wifi so when i'm driving i could used the saved maps? or would there just be a better program other then tomtom7 because i can't seem to get the maps working.

Depends on where you are located (country/territory) really... Some navigation applications focus on specific regions. Where are you?
I live in Canada more specific Toronto so i would be fine with just Toronto maps
Can anyone answer me ?
There is no such thing , or it wouldn't be free...
You do need 3G with a all-you-can-eat plan as downloading google maps takes pretty much k-bytes when you download in real-time the Satelite maps (much less if you download the street map of course) , and I presume they are even only put in a temp cache and not "stored" in the application for re-usage.
(not sure about this as I flash my device constantly as for Google Maps).
I agree about the all-you-can-eat plan for GPS. In fact, you're better off getting an unlimited plan anyway if you really want to get the best your Diamond has to offer.
So what other good GPS programs are there other then Tomtom with CA maps?
I use Garmin Mobile XT and it is absolutely brilliant!
You can also checkout CoPilot and iGo
Google Map
Hi
The diamond has GPS, can google map use GPS to get the map or do I need wifi or 3G data plan? I did see options to use GPS but it connects to my phone line using GPRS, since GPS is free but not able to get it to work using mapking either..
Anyone have this problem?
Thanks

I feel you don't understand the basic difference between GPS and GPRS
See all what GPS does is connect to the satellites and get your longitude and latitude data .. this data is traced on the maps by an GPS application like google maps , Tom Tom , Mapking ..etc ..so you need to download the maps either using EDGE/3G or store them on your phone/internal memory ..
Hope you get the idea ..
Google Map
Ic, then can I store the whole map of my area with google map? like I do with Mapking and use GPS to find my location in google map, like a do with mapking?
terracrosser
Hi Guys,
Wanted to put you in the right direction; check out terracrosser.
Just installed it and I will be testing it out on a bicycle trip, but seems to be perfect for this.
There is also another thread about it:

I seem to remember that map4pda stores the maps locally, you download the ones you want via your home wifi etc and it will look in its cache before downloading them from the web when you're away from home.
Tip: make sure you download *all* the map tiles at the resolutions you need to avoid data charges.

The cab found in that link replaces the default aGPS server settings to the ones found on nokia devices which are more maintained and provide an extremely fast lock!
try to use the option "Other NMEA Reciever"!

i use tt 7.450.9028 and have tried t-back's gps settings, jcepsi's cab for registry tweaks on gps (XDA JCEpsi2005 GPS Lag Fix Raphael.cab), CleanGPSData, and FF's agps settings. I went from a cold lock in 10 minutes, to 3 minutes, to now within 30 seconds using FF's cab. It definitely helped me out. (Thanks A LOT!) i also use htc gps tool and chartcross gpstest to initiate the gps first.
