Weather on the Fuze - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Maybe it's because I live in New England, where weather is all important, but I find the Weather tab on the Fuze to be totally lame. I'm used to running WeatherPanel on my Tilt. I'm looking for instant access to detailed current conditions, forecasts, temps, charts, and radar and satellite images that I can put in motion. All of which I had direct access to on my Today screen via WeatherPanel, which would update in the background. On the Fuze, I get a static picture and temp (which doesn't seem to update on its own), and a link to an AccuWeather web site that never loads any info for my location.
I've searched all over; is there any better weather functionality to be used with the Weather tab in TF3D? To I have to trash TF3D and go back to a Today screen to get better weather info?

Pocket Weather is probably the most advanced available. I live in New England as well and it is pretty good.

Will Pocket Weather work on the Fuze as a substitute under the Weather tab in TF3D? Or as an added tab? I looked at it and I came away with the impression its a Today screen plug-in, like WeatherPanel, and would not interface with TF3D on the Fuze.

I too, abandoned TouchFlo and went back to my SPB Plus and Shell, and SPB weather. It was cute having a windshield wiper in the rain, but I'd rather have function over being nice to look at. Hence, no iPhone.
So, I've been using SPB weather, doesn't do maps, but does do fairly accurate forecasting. And since I travel a lot it keeps many cities a few clicks away.
James

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the page update automatically if you leave "data connect" on all the time? Mine seamed to always be updated whenever I looked at the tab with this setup.

That's what I was afraid of, there is no way to improve the functionality of the Weather tab. Which then leaves me facing the decision:if I'm not going to use TF3D to go back to Today screen with WeatherPanel plug-in, then will I return by Fuze and go back to my Tilt?

I don't know what you're talking about, i have my device set to update automatically and my weather updates regularly. You can make it update manually as well. SPB only shows the highs/lows for the day doesn't it?

SPB Weather
For the most part SPB does show hi's and low's and some detail on today and tomorrow, but no maps or anything like that, which is all I need when I am mobile. If I need a meterological lesson, I'll pop on the weather channel.
I just wish there was a way to access the "app" for the weather screen in the touch flo, b/c the weather feature was some nice eye candy. And your right most of the weather apps, built-in or 3rd party can update automatically.

www.weather.com saves a cookie so you get all that super crazy info as soon as the page loads up. Just a though.

I've got a persistent data connetion too, and usually as soon as i switch to one of the cities in the tf3d weather, it updates right then.
My issue is the cities, or lack of some. I'm in new brunswick, canada, and "fredericton, nb" is not listed, but 'moncton, nb' and 'saint john, nb' are. I saw a couple posts about adding new cities using some sql apps & db inserts - is that how this one is updated? the last weather app i used , had an xml file I could update with codes from accuweather.com.
has anyone updated their listed cities? if so, how involved was it?
tks,

TF3D Diamond, Weather After Hard Reset
I have something different going on. Following a hard reset, my weather add-cities has changed. United States used to be at the top of the country list, and now it's clear down in the U's. Does the aforementioned database editor have anything to fix that? Otherwise, I don't need to edit anything, liking it as is. Thanks in advance!

Weather and CFNET 3.5
I had to get a new fuze due to a bad radio in the old one. I had the weather database and CFNET 3.5 installed on the old and working. However, on the new I have forgotten how to get the apps to use CFNET 3.5 and not the older version.
HELP ME.
I know I navigated to one of the apps and it was in a drop down but for the life of me I can not remember which one.
Thanks!

Install .Net Configuration. See attached cab below.
Once installed, go to the 'Device Policy' tab and select version 3.5. Select 'Apply' then 'OK'.

also you can use 2nd today you dont have to abandon tf3d entirely

Thanks!! I even had that on my memory card. Could not remember what it was. HOWEVER, I still get a message that "installation of weatherdatabaseEditor 1.2.CAB was unsuccessful. Any thoughts?

Are you running a custom ROM? How about custom theme? I've noticed that 1.2 sometimes has conflicts with these. Try 1.1 Modified instead.

it only update if you have wifi or data connection. It doesn't save any cache. I hate Manila Weather for this reason. It doesn't download a few hr in advance....
is it possible to change the tab to something else? like pocket weather?
I'm from Montreal

Don't have any custom rom. It is the stock ATT rom. I will try 1.1 and let you know.

Simple weather app (not for today screen) - like the iPhone?

Hey everyone,
I'm sick of trying to get the HTC Home weather thing to work. I've tried replacing DLL's, editing XML files, and installing a couple different versions. None seem to work so I'm moving away from this weather app.
I'm looking for a standalone app that will show me local weather along with a 5 or 7 day forecast. It would also be nice if I could store other city's to it as well so I can see the weather at different places.
I don't want a today screen plugin. I just want to be able to open this application, view the weather, and close it.
Anyone have a good program for that? Free or paid I don't care... I'm just looking for the best & most stable.
It isn't just a weather app, however SPB traveller when opened shows the cities you have specified with their weather, high and low temps for 4/5 days depending on the view you select.
It will show you their time and conversions to your local money.
It is likely to be a bit bloated for what you require, however it works exceptionally well and I haven't had any issues with it.

"Weather Watcher" is exactly what you are looking for. It will do multiple cities, current conditions, hourly, extended forecast, weather alerts, and a zoom-able radar of the city you have selected. You can set it to automatically update or update it manually. Best part is that it is free. You can get it here.

HTC - Settings...I've lost track of one

I recently installed Alex's rom, and love it. But one thing I'm trying to get that I had on my other is for HTC Plugin. I was able to press on the icon, and set it to hide the items it displayed. So, for eample, the large clock takes up a lot of screen space, I could have it hiddent, then click the icon for it to display. I can't do that with this.
I thought HTC Customizer must have given me that, so I instaleld it, and it doesn't.
CAn anyone point me to the right app to get that setting capability on HTC? There are a lot of posts out here about the HTC screens, but I haven't run across that description.
Thanks!
Bump...
Any ideas ?
I believe you're referring to UltimateLaunch or SPB PocketPlus 4.02, which allows you to install a today plug-in as a tab. Both applications have limited trials.
Alex, you are so good.
Yes, in fact I just came back here to say, I found that wsa it. I in fact have SPB Pocket Plus. But I had forgotten that was how I did it.
I'm making notes of all the changes I'm doing, so next time I do a ROM (I'm sure you'll have one I just have to try later ) that I'll be able to recrate some of my stuff.
Thanks!

Great Program
Nice job on this program. Definitely prefer this over WeatherDatabaseEditor. I will continue to play around with it and will report any problems.
Very nice work... I have some potential suggestions from the users side for the final product...
It installs to "Tools" which was confusing for a second for me, but might be more confusing for others.
Defaultly starts up at NC, is this because thats where you are?
The Set button is cool, but I didnt know it'd wipe out my other saved cities, maybe a warning?
Again, great work... a big improvement over WeatherDB Editor which was also great!
-SCDavis
This is great, you should add AppToDate support, 12
Am I understanding this right that I can install the cab to my Fuze and will then be able to add cities to my Weather tab that I am unable to add with the default weather settings? Is this correct? If it doesn't work for me, can I uninstall and it revert to the original weather program/settings?

Yes you can install the cab file on your Fuze. It adds cities to the weather database. You still have to go to the Weather Tab and add the location you created using Weather Master.
Excellent! Thanks for the program! I'm going to give it a try.
Okay, so I installed the cab. Installed fine. Went to Tools and ran the config program. I added my city (Batesville, AR) and it added it to the list.
However, when I go to the Weather tab, it shows my city name as Batesville, AR but it sits there...and then after several seconds will give me a connection error. I switched back to the other city I was using originally (Little Rock, AR) and it updated the weather almost immediately.
Any ideas? Is it not pointing to the right location to d/l the weather for added cities? Or did I do something wrong?

It might be a good idea to do that. After doing some reading in other threads, deleting the forecast_cache.db seems to be the solution for users having problems getting cities to update after adding them. I don't think it would hurt anything by doing it and might be a proactive way in solving issues before they pop up.
I deleted the cache, as suggested, and still nothing.
Maybe you should briefly run through the steps I should've followed to add my city? It doesn't make sense (to me) that the default cities will update but the added ones will not...I'm wondering if I missed a step somewhere. Thx.

weather - downloading different site?

Hi,
just noticed that where the Kaiser downloads the weather for us here in Australia is often wrong. Is there a way that I can get the weather information from http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS10034.shtml and to display it in the "Weather" section?
Don't know about BOM but you can get the weather from the Age newspaper if you're using SPB Weather (or SPB Traveller or something, I'm confused) using a script written by Andrew Kirkland (AndrewK). Found it somewhere on another board. Try googling the name, or look through the SPB support area. Just can't remember exactly where I saw it. It's accurate if you d/load in the morning but a day out if you D/L in PM! Don't know about native HTC app (is there a weather app in WM or HTC?).
Hope that helps (and I haven't confused you too!).

Where/how is it "wrong"? I am a weather junkie and often cross compare BOM's current condition http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60901/IDN60901.94767.shtml with the results on my phone...
The only time it is "wrong" is due to rounding off the decimal or a case of timing
SPB Weather or Traveller as mentioned before allows for diffeent locations, However the "Age Script" is not much use.
I have shortcuts to BOM's rain radar and to the above link and access them regularly... HTC weather is to make my phone pretty and give me current conditions at a glance

Getting Rid of TF3D

This thread is for discussion among those of us TD2 users who have dumped, or might dump, TF3D in favour of either another Today screen replacement or the stock WinMo 6.1 Today screen.
Thus far I'm finding the TD2 a hell of a lot more usable without TF3D. Little things like being able to use a lock password with a 15 minute delay, getting auto-Capitalization when writing texts are good, along with a much faster phone, much less memory usage and....it even seems I'm getting better battery life.
Most of the bugs people are reporting are actually TF3D issues which are resolved by ditching TF3D.
So has anyone else taken the plunge and gone back to the standard WinMo6.1?
I used to installed Ultimate Launch then Spb Mobile Shell in my original Diamond. Now I am using TF3D in my Diamond2. I wish Mobile Shell 3 may upload a more bug free version for the new device such as HD and Diamond2 and I may switch back to Mobile Shell. Perhaps WM6.5 release may change my plan and look forward to what HTC still put their manila on top of those WM6.5 device.
As I said, the thread is for people who are NOT using TF3D.
Personally I think WM6.5 will render TF3D completely redundant by handling the one thing it's good at - gloss.
Another thing I've noticed about not using TF3D is that the phone's response to tilting it to landscape and back is a lot faster.
My case as well: I've got the feeling that TF3D is more like a heavy bag.
As soon as I deactivated, the phone became easier to be handled and plus, presenting extra memory/battery resources as well.
However, a Launcher is very much needed, since neither the TF3D, nor the WM's Today screen don't offer the possibility to get to your action choice with only one button-tap.
Is there a good free launcher which can do that?
cheers!
I'm finding judicious use of which apps you put into the Start Menu helps a lot - the apps I use on a daily basis are all there, others I can get to via their presence on the Today screen, such as Tomtom.
The start menu seems to appear quicker than the TF3D one does as well.
Another thing I'm liking is the Today plugin for the RSS reader - TF3D2 didn't seem to handle RSS alerts well, when you acknowledged them it didn't take you into the RSS reader.
Best of all though is the fact I can now password protect my phone properly and delay it for 15 mins so I'm not badgered for the password all the time.
I'm finding that I don't need the stylus much either, despite the smaller menus and so on.
I just can't get over the extended battery life and improved memory usage though!
Without TF3D and three apps running (calendar, contacts and file explorer) my memory is loaded only 38%.
With TF3D it never went under 50%.
As for the battery, I can only say that it seems that lasts longer, but I didn't really seriously monitor it.
I was using PointUI Home2 free version on my Diamond, it's great. Less memory usage, and huge customisability. I had 5 "tabs" with the homescreen (see attachment) calendar & tasks, comms, stock, and weather. Worked great.
The default Home2 theme is a little mucky, but there is a huge range of alternative themes. I made a nice black one that suits the diamond.
If I get rid of TF3D then
- can I alter by normal threaded SMS for to show more than 1 line that I have typed in my new reply (like TF3D does)?
- can I still create push internet sites without TF3D?
- will the hardware button for program files still work? Will this take me to the same screen?
Can I exit TF3D without disabeling it just to check out how things look?
I have disabled and tweaked so much of TF3D that I am also thinking that it is going to be off my device with the 6.5 ROM anyway .... why not do it now.

Just go into All Settings, Personal, Today and uncheck the TF3D box to turn TF3D off. Give it a few days of usage before you make your mind up. Don't forget to turn on and customize the other Today screen plugins to get the full experience.
I have disabled and tweaked so much of TF3D that I am also thinking that it is going to be off my device with the 6.5 ROM anyway .... why not do it now.

My thoughts entirely. In a couple of months' time TF3D will be completely redundant anyway.
Incidentally, I've started getting right into Today screen plugins...TodayAgenda is frankly the best app on my phone. I use the Todo (Tasks) app more than any other app on my phone. TodayAgenda allows you to have your task list (with only the active tasks showing, huzzah!) right there on your today screen, so you don't even need to unlock your phone to see what you need to do next! And you can complete tasks and create new ones right there on the Today screen. It's awesome and I can see this becoming my new most-used widget.
Just this one plugin renders TF3D utterly redundant as far as I'm concerned!
The RSS reader has a plugin too, which is really useful.
Does anyone else have good suggestions for really useful Today plugins? I tried PointUI Home2 but that's more of a replacement than a plugin.
Hi Jim,
By TodayAgenda you mean the calendar inputs shown in the Today screen?
If this is so, I'm a little disapointed because it shows only the next one, not the next week ones, let's say...
Is there a way to have more than one event listed?
thanks

No I'm talking about TodayAgenda - it's a plugin, you have to download and install it. It lets you look as far ahead as you like and does both Todos and Calendat entries (although I only use it for Todos).
Also, try WMP Status 1.0, it shows you on the today screen the artist, album, track and track number that you're currently playing in Media Player. Very useful as you don't need to unlock your phone to see what you're listening to!

Incidentally, if you go into Settings / Today and highlight CALENDAR, click OPTIONS, you can set it to show all upcoming appointments instead of just the next one.

Thank you Jim.
It seems that I've missed the Option button.
Thanks for the TodayAgenda tip too.

No problem. Check out WMP Status 1.0 as well, it's really useful when you're listening to music!
Ok, since I droped TF3D, I also dropped the phone dialer skin, leaving the WM one, which is fine for me but apparently it has a bug:
it doesn't show me the calls&contacts, in its scroll-down field, even though there is some information present, because if I tap, it opens the call's details window.
In other words, it's like a list on which the items have the same font color like the list's background.
Did anybody experienced the same?
Is it possible that another dialer skin would change this behavior?
I put Phonealarm and today agenda straight on my phone and removed TF3D its just too restricting. I can get to everything i need with one click on the home screen none of this swishing fingers to get to stuff.
I really don't know what some of yoy are complaining about...
Not Capitalizing the first letter... NONSENS, when i write a SMS the first letter of a sentence is capitalized..
Memory consumption.......
Why do you think this device has so much ???? Because HTC wants you to run TF3D and still have more then enough memory free to run Whatever app......
I was sceptical at first too. But if you give it a chance you will see that once you have seen every screen (without a reboot) it's VERY fast, and very comfortable...
I am sure i will keep TF3D for a while !

I used to run 2 Today pages using Second Today.
Weather (SPB Traveller) , CLauncher and SPB Phone (can't beat the options here) on the 1st Today. SPB Diary full screen on the other (2nd) Today.
Custom links to Internet and GPS Navigation complete the productive config.
I travel for business. Calendar and Contacts and the most important.
TF3D Calendar can't make top 20 on market I would say. Contacts in TF3D are death by scrolling (by default). The new D2 Dialer is more productive for contacts than any of the TF3D contacts screens!
I agree that all these other UIs that don't allow Today plugins are missing the point. People want to pay for and use specialist programs where certain functionality is important to them.

I'm finding judicious use of which apps you put into the Start Menu helps a lot - the apps I use on a daily basis are all there, others I can get to via their presence on the Today screen, such as Tomtom.

With a WVGA screen, I really wish there were a work around to be able to place more than 7 apps in the start menu. Can't believe I've never found a hack for this.
Alternatively, I love to be able to route the start button to the All Programs folder but never been able to find this either. Two simple things that must not be easy or else we would have seen them before.
BTW, I unchecked TF3D within 24hrs (a month ago). I use SPB Mobile Shell for the shell. For the today screen (WM 6.1) I use Today Agenda, Google Search, Elecont Weather (paid) or WeatherBugDirect (free). I also run all my tasks and appointments from the traditional today screen via TodayAgenda.
