PUSH email w/o exchange ?

I'm using Outlook 2007 on my desktop with 3 POP email accounts, calendar, tasks, etc.
Is there a fairly simple way to sync and push email to my Tilt without having exchange server available ?

Direct push is for exchange 2003 & 2007 only, it has nothing to do with the outlook client. Why don't you setup the pop3 on your phone? On my phone I have 1 exchange account, and 2 pop3 accounts, and it works great.

You could always try Emoze - http://www.emoze.com/ - some people love it, some people hate it. Not tried it myself.
Other options include using Live Mail - which supports push in WM6, or setting up a Mail2Web account. You could then create a rule in Outlook to forward any received mail to your new address. You might be able to configure Live Mail to pull from other Pop3 mailboxes (I know Gmail does this, but I don't know about Live Mail). That way all three Pop accounts end up in your Live Mail bucket, and you sync just that one account with your phone.

I could do that, but then I'd have to manually check for mail.
It would just be nice to have blackberry-like mail arrival.

you can tell the phone to check every 5 mins for emails? that's just as regular as blackberry. battery sapping tho. its in the advanced section of the messaging setup. you can do it on symbian nokias too.

I like the concept of XpressMail (using SMS notification, therefore good for battery life), though I've had little luck getting push to work. It rarely, if ever, worked on my MPX220. I eventually accepted the fact that I'd simply have to do a send/receive when I was interested in seeing if there was new mail. Now that I have the Tilt, I'm having the same reliability issues. It HAS worked... I've had a couple messages show up all on their own, but for the most part, they don't. I've gone into the online configuration @ https://xpressmail.cingular.com/, and found that I had not only one, but two devices set up (my MPX220 set up twice). I deleted both of those, but for some reason can't seem to get the Tilt added. I can go through the process, but once I select it, it just never gets added to the list. The list of emails online is correct, so obviously the xpress mail app is properly getting the emails from my mail provider (comcast), but it's either not sending out the SMS messages, or they aren't being interpreted correctly by the phone.

I had a situation where i needed to syn with 2 exchange servers, and i didnt' want to run a desktop app.
Google for "seven beta" and get the OWA Out of office. You can set it up to sync only email and it works like push off of the OWA of exchange. If you don't have exchange they have a desktop version. Seven is the same people who develop the xpress mail for cingular.

Has anyone tried to setup push e-mail on the Diamond? How does it affect the battery life?

Yes, I do push e-mail everyday (using Edge).
Fully charged Diamond last for 9.5 hrs for normally usage + pushmail.
It is only around 2/3 usage time for my Touch Elf.

How many e-mails do you receive daily? Do you retrieve your e-mails as soon as they are on server or did you configure an "x minutes" check?

i have around 50-100 emails daily. poor me.
I have Exchange 2007 mailbox for company, it is pushmail and i got as soon as they are arriving on server. Simultaneously, I have another IMAP4 mailbox for my personal, i check it every 10 mins.
Same settings also apply to my previous Touch Elf, which have 1/3 longer running time for a fully charged battery.

I noticed on the HTC website that the specs for standby time are:
- Up to 396 hours for WCDMA
- Up to 285 hours for GSM
EDGE is GSM, so maybe that's the reason why it sucks the battery so much?
These numbers seem strange, that would mean we can expect a better battery life on 3G networks... I hope it's true!

Keep in mind after the first connection Windows mobile 6 doesn't close the connection. Then the battery life down very fast

Sorry I very newbie in push email... Is it necessary to install anything in the diamond to start receiving push email?
Is there any way to receive real push email from imap4 accounts beside forcing the diamond check the mail box every time?

You can try emoze (emoze.com) it is free and you'll have what you need.
You can also try seven (seven.com) witch is the same.

I'm getting gmail pushed through mail2web.
Anyone know how I can get just my inbox and not all the folders and emails ? There's no way to set up a filter for just the inbox --> forward emails.

I'm using mail2web as well, however I don't let my email be pushed or forwarded to mail2web. I'm having mail2web set-up to acquire the e-mails from my other accounts. And I only receive the inbox items. Maybe you can adjust something there to just get what you wish for?

Allowing mail2web to aggregate emails would work, but the trouble is, it uses IMAP and of course that mean it pulls emails from Gmail on a timed basis. If mail2web is using IMAP, I may as well set up a direct account on the phone to do just that.
The benefit of forwarding gmail is that mails would arrive almost instantaneously to mail2web and then be pushed to the phone.
Unfortunately in the case of gmail, all email gets forwarded including those that I have filtered out and don't want in my regular inbox, so every few minutes my phone is pinging to let me know I have a new email.

I've been using emoze for the past week or so while I wait for a Blackberry solution and must admit its pretty neat - I'd recommend it to anyone who's looking for a FREE and reliable service - from a corporate perspective if you have an existing Outlook Webmail system then this really is a great interim solution!
I would still like my BlackBerry service back though!

Is it possible to ad more accounts in Emoze? And is Emoze pushing HTML emails or TXT..?? This moment i use mobipush.com, but they don't support HTML push...

I'm not sure if emoze can support more than one account at a time in the "free" version??? Dont think so but you should check.
As for HTML or Text - Text only for now I think???

I use 4smartphone.net - for push email.
My battery needs charging every second day - my phone use is 1 hours calls 50 SMS and surffing 30mins inbetween charges.

I use momail.com and they support push email,
ihave never used that before and i dont know how to set it up in diamond,
any one that can guide me in the right direction?

I've tried to use my mail2web push-mail account on my Diamond, and I have to say that I was surprised that it did not decreased that much the battery longevity.
(compared to my wizard and trinity I used to do push-mail on)
This might be because by default, the settings are not high consuming on the Diamond (no wake-up on email reception, no ring, etc.)
since everything is done with the screen light off, I even think that it reduces more the battery charge to put on the light and check what time it is, than to have the push running in the back ground.

While we're on the subject of emoze, does it work (ie still push) while the phone is in standby?

Yep, it sure does.

I used to have my diamond setup for push and barely got through the day with my battery,
now I upgraded to the newest radio rom and set the mail sync to every 15min.
after this I have about 60% power left after one day.
I used to think push is a must, but honestly, 15min syncs are just fine. no mail cant be that important....

This might be a stupid question - why didn't you just get an exchange account and use ipush email the way it was designed ?? Some exchange accounts can give you pop/imap account checking/forwarding aswell.

Where do you get an exchange account?

Yeah it works really well and is very lightweight - I too tried emoze but exscuse the term it's a bit (cough) sh!*t.
Emansio so far has been flawless for me... I highly recommend it!

I could do but let me explain I have to email accounts:
1x Hotmail - which is push enabled anyway as per any hotmail account with a little tinkering
1x Googlemail which is my primary email address - I also use google calendar and contacts.
So Emansio is pushing Googlemail and OggSync is syncing Google Calender and contacts... this seems so far a flawless combo with hardly any overheads in terms of memory and CPU.
I am not that familiar with exchange - will exchange cater to all my needs?

I use mail2web which has been excellent. I get hotmail and yahoo mail to forward emails to my mail2web account and then this gets pushed to my phone. It syncs calendar, mail, contacts and tasks. Calendar, Contacts and Tasks are then periodically synced to my PC outlook via activesync and so all is in sync. The basic service is free, but there are other services where you have to pay. Not very expensive.
Don't know whether google calendar would sync through this though. You'd have to check.

2. What is the procedure of push email, what i mean is how does it actually work?

Go to windows live on your pc and sign in to your live (hotmail) account, then on the top right hand side there is 'options', at the bottom of that list there is 'more options', under the heading Manage your account, one of the options is 'forward to another email account'

1. It depends, some exchange hosts charge a monthly charge, some like mail2web have both free and charged services. However, you obviously have to pay for the data, just like any other kind of data service. If you are on an unlimited data tariff, this won't worry you.
2. No idea how it works (I don't know how my car works either, just as long as it goes when I turn the key I don't care)!

Basically sign into windows live on your Diamond then goto options choose "sync schedule" then set it to "as items arrive" and volia free push hotmail...

The advantage of doing this will mail2web is that you can get all your mail pushed to you from all your accounts. Saves fiddling about with lots of mail boxes on the device. But I'm sure some people would prefer to keep them separate.

Presumably for proper push mail to work the software will need to maintain a data connection all the time? Is this the case with Emansio, and does it drain the battery a lot more?
At the moment I just use google and its imap settings in messaging with it connecting every 30 mins.

Same concern!

Call me dumb, but I use yahoo mail and every time I get a new email it pops up on my email tab, I've set it to check every hour, you can set it for less if you get more emails than me(5 x pink diet patch and 20 x penis extension, both not required). I have a nice unlimited data plan but why would anyone who has a diamond not? If you have a diamond in my opinion you must have an unlimited data plan, otherwise you are just not getting the full benefits of such a beautiful device and should roll back to the awesome old magician.

You shoudn't have push email just for the sake of having it...
...yes Emansio always maintains a constant data connection as does push Hotmail... and naturally this will shorten the battery life somewhat in addition to that if you don't have an unlimited data plan then your fooked... but if your out and about and regularly use email for business or personal then push email is for you.
I stop it when I am out shopping etc as there is no need for it but if I need to be contacted easily via email then I activate Emansio.
For those who wan't to find out how it works... cmon guys you have the net and presumably a Diamond with Opera LOL - www.google.com need I say more.
OggSync is great for Google Calendar BTW

This is also new out in beta for those wanting to sync google mail and calendar. Don't know anything about it but might help someone.

Nuevasync looks interesting: Unfortunately it's not supporting email yet.
Emansio: Agree, it's the only push plugin which works fine (e.g. in sleep mode etc). BUT: It's expensive and it ssupports the main email folder only. The meaning of Imap is having the folder structure on the server, so I expect such a tool to inform about every new email in every folder I subscribed to.
According to Emansio support this feature is currently worked on and might be available later in 2008.

correct me if I am wrong but Emansio only support push mail but not calanda and contact, right?

Why BlackBerry receives emails 3 minutes faster than Tilt?

The industry I am in, it is important to respond to client emails as quickly as possible. Can anyone explain why my BlackBerry is receiving emails quicker than AT&T Tilt. If so, is there a possibility to receive the emails just as quickly. My email is set to a pop3 account.

Blackberry recieves push e-mails, when the e-mail is recieved at the server it is pushed to the phone, Pocket Outlook can be set to poll your e-mail server at most every 5 minutes, so unless your Tilt syncs to the mail server right after the e-mail gets to the server the Blackberry will always get it first.

Just as I believed. Thank you for your quick response.

if you use an exchange account, you will get an email as quick as a BB rather than using a Pop3 acct.
i sit in front of my pc and test it and it is pretty instant. the phone gets it before the notification on my Outlook on my PC pops up.
also if you have a hotmail acct, you can use Windows Live and set it to "as it arrives" and you will pretty much get push capabilities as well.

If your server supports IMAP, try using flexmail. Flexmail uses the IMAP idle mode and gets instant notification of new mail. My tilt will display mail faster than thunderbird on my desktop pc.

yeah.. pls change to flexmail.. faster than everything.. i hate BB BTW.. haha.. it is damn expensive in my country..

If you have your blackberry set to check every 15 minutes and your tilt to check every 15 minutes then you possibly finished your configuration with a 3 minute difference.

There is a program called Seven I've been using this for about 6 months now and it is the fastest push email I have seen for ppc. As soon as you receive a email it comes to your phone. When you sign up "it is free to reg. and it is a Beta" make sure you sign up for the Beta. Because they have ones for ATT and other company but it is not the same as the beta.

I use mail2web for my emails and get really fast, sometimes the email will show up on my phone before it will show up in my inbow on the web.
Also, if you are using AT&T you can also sign up for the Blackberry Connect for Non-Blackberry Phones and get the benefit of the BB Email Server as well... Something you may want to consider.

Seven is the company that makes AT&T's Xpress Mail program that tries to emulate a push email system like the the BIS (blackberry internet service) using sms triggers.
Hopefully the Beta is allot better than Xpress Mail as the Xpress Mail program is piece of crap (very latent pushed emails) and can only be used with one account.

Yes Seven is a lot faster. I was using Xpress before, it is not fast as the Seven. That is why I said use the Seven beta and not the AT&T version.

Sprint - Push E-mail options

Hello all,
I've now had my TP for almost 3 months and am truly loving it. As you might know, I was a TOTAL noob to WinMo, and in regards to some of the more advanced things, I still am.
This brings me to my topic:
I would like to know if Microsoft Outlook allows for "Push" e-mail on to the TP. If not, what recommended E-mail systems are out there that can push to the TP (i.e. gmail, hotmail, yahoo)?
I am currently using Comcast, and was considering going the Mail2Web route, but it seemed too confusing...I know, I'm a moron. (As for "Seven", I've heard it's not yet stable and it severly taxes the battery.) As such, if anybody who has had success with Mail2Web and the Touch Pro, would you mind posting (or PMing) "step-by-step" instructions on how you got it working?
In either case, I also ask the more experienced people if you can either tell me or direct me to a site which explains the whole concept of Outlook, Exchange, and other elements of Push e-mail.

LOL, I was just editing that into my OP.
I've heard it's not stable yet in that there is a delay in receiving E-mails and that it places a large drain on your battery.

Although it is still in a beta stage I don't think it unstable at all and emails at least for me being pushed from gmail come within 2 seconds. I can't disagree that it will take a toll on your battery but that's the price we pay for push email. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd also be glad to know.

I use Mail2Web. It's easy to setup, just go to Activesync and add a server and use:
[email protected] (as the username)
ur password
and skip the auto detect the server step and use:
mobile.exchange.mail2web.com (as the server)
**Note-I don't use mail2web as my email, I use gmail. And what I did was set my gmail account to foward to the mail2web account, so I get the emails pushed from both. However, the outgoing email address it shows, when I send a message is the mail2web account.
I've been using this for a while, and it works pretty good. I get email notifications pretty much instantly with this setup, and also syncs my contacts, calendar and tasks online for easy backing up

I would like to keep 3rd party sources as a second option.
First, I would like to know if Microsoft Outlook has the ability to Push E-mail to the TP without severly draining the battery.
Now, if that is not an option, then I would like some clarification on the Mail2Web process.

I know I sound like a moron, but that's because in this matter, I am.

another option is EMOZE. Its a good alternative to seven if you just care about emails. it really dont do the contacts too well and calendar not at all. again good app if you just care about getting your gmail emails....

Well, after a lot of searching, I went ahead with steb0ne's idea of using Mail2Web LIVE. So far it works great, especially since I've set all my comcast e-mails to autoforward to the M2W account so I can receive them "instantly" as well.
I do have a few concerns though that maybe a few of you guys can address:
1) How does Direct Push actually work? Does it establish a connection every so often looking for new messages?
2) Generally speaking, how much battery life does it drain during the course of a normal 8-hour day if I keep Direct Push active in the Comm. Manager?
3) How good is M2W at keeping SPAM messages away?

I have used seven, mail2web, and the sprint mobile email app. I prefer mail2web over the others. The sprint app is based on the seven email program, but only allows for one email address.
With the seven program I have noticed a noticeable lag in receiving my email. I have sent an email to the an account, received in on my desktop and still dont get it for up to 10min on my phone. With Mail2web I usually get it on my phone before the computer, also the online system they use will save all of your contacts, calender so you can access it from your phone or computer, as well as have an easy backup if you lose your phone, or do a hard reset.

So if I use seven, which they and Sprint say my TP is not supported, does it still send from my email addy or some seven.com email?
for me its all but useless to just get email if I cant send it.

when i try to set up active sync i put details in , user pass server, there is a field "domain" which i cannot get past unless i put something in it , trying to use mobipush and their directions are to leave domain blank but if i do i cant progress on my screen the next button wont highlight, any ideas
