Hard Reset Another Way?? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi
I have searched but am in trouble. I flashed SJ 15 Nov rom and have lost the use of my hardware buttons. ( send key, end key & directional button) I want to flash an earlier rom but in need to know if there is another way to do a hard reset after the flash with making use of the hardware soft keys which is used in a normal hard reset.
Help would be great.

Dave, thanks for the reply. I thought that a clear storage was different to a hard reset. Can you confirm a clear storage is the same as a hard reset.
Thanks. Richard

Both remove all user data from the device and restore it to the state it was in when the ROM was flashed.
There was some discussion over differences but I can't recall any.

Thanks again Dave, tried search in a few forums but could'nt find any article referring to differences. Will try clear storage but just a nuisance not having function of hardware keys.

Hard resetting ... from the from a factory ROM

If something happens to your rom where you can't boot up completely and you're on the factory ROM...do this:
To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the left SOFT KEY and the right SOFT KEY, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the middle left side of your device.
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the two SOFT KEYs until you see the following message on the screen:
“This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default.
Press Send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.”
3. Release the two SOFT KEYs, and then press the button on your device. Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings.
This was provided to me from a reliable source.
I don't have a Wing so I can't answer questions on this.
This came my way beacause my cousin overclocked his Wing too much and it would not boot.
The T-Mo ROM is not available for download to re-install it.
Because of where he works, he was able to come across this info.
I just shared it with you.
Thx for the info, but the manual states this as well

Don't own or have the device, just shared what was told to me as a fix for my cousin.
Thanks - but i worte in another thread that i really hope for one thing:
Pleas - to all noobs - don´t flash ROMs or change poolsize - when you don´t know how to make a hardreset or to start your device in bootloader.
Please read, read, read - and then beginn playing when you know what you are doing.
Thanks

Removing Ext ROM data

Hi guys
I upgraded my XDA II a long time ago from 2003 to WM5, and all was fine, however any time I put a new version on 6.1, I still get the old programs installed from a previous version. I tried "downgrading" back to 2003 and there it works fine, however any time I install a 6.1 ROM, the old apps (and their error messages) keep coming back.
Is there a way that I can COMPLETELY wipe my Himalaya device and then install a 6.1 ROM from fresh?
Your help is greatly appreciated
Jim
do you HARD RESET, clear storage?, i mean the steps where you set it to NO, YES, YES? hard reset for 2006/2005 is different from 2003.
Hey Paul
Thanks for the fast reply... The answer to that part is NO... And that's because the camera button on my XDA is broken and so am unable to do that key sequence...
Any other ways to do the hard reset (with an application or such like)
Thanks
Jim
thats highly unlikely... the new roms(wm6.x) arent hard resetted by the usual manner the old ones were... for wm6.x the whole no, yes, yes routine is necessary... unless maybe some1 builds a rom that isnt hard reset persistent(thats wht they write with these roms n i think thats why these roms dont get cleared with the old hard reset).
Thanks for that...
... So if I understand you correctly, I DO need to run the NO, YES, YES routine to clear out all the other rubbish on my system... But if I can't do the keystrokes, can anyone think of a way that I can emulate this...
Thanks
Jim
My understanding is that there is no work around for this. How is the button broken? Is the whole button not there? or is the button there but the internal workings are broken?

Save me from sending my device back (password reset)

I bought a VPA Compact V a couple months ago to replace my Orange M700 and LOVE it.
Unfortunately Last Night I was playing with password features, and created a password by mistake. I've tried to remember what I typed in and was told it was not valid and asked for my password again! There is an option to reset your password but it is grayed out!
So I called up Vodaphone and they walked me through a hard reset (which I could not do for some reason, instead of getting the white screen, I always get the standard vodaphone one)
After a few attempts they told be I'd just have to return it to and be without phone for up to three weeks which is outreagous! I have had NO issues before this time and really need my kaiser for work. I know I am risking a public scalding and accusations of being a thief but I can assure you I am legit (I've got the bills to prove it!), but given my low post count I can see why you may have your doubts.
I don't really want to do a hard reset if I don't have to, but I think that it is my only choice. My old M2000 (blue angel) looses data if the battery is not in, can I do a similar thing with the kasier?
Thanks in advance,
WWWeed.........
does anyone know if WM6 prevents you from hard-resetting while the device is requesting a password?
Did you follow the steps in the wiki to do a hard reset with just the hard keys on the phone?
You should be able to use the "Clear Storage" icon in the settings without having to know the password if I remember well. That triggers a Hard reset too. But I'd just go with the hard key method too, only takes a couple of seconds...
The Kaiser will not lose any of its memory if you remove the battery.
At this point, you have 2 options. The first is to perform a hard reset; the process is documented in the Kaiser Wiki. Your second option is to download the OEM ROM that your phone shipped with, enter bootloader manually (also in the Wiki) and reflash the device. Either way, you will lose any data not on an SD card.

Yes I did, but instead of getting the white screen asking me if I want to clear the storage, I get the standard vodaphone splash screen

I have a problem with this, I cant find the rom installed on this device. I have tryed 3.08.161.0 (Radio 1.64.08.21) UK Vodafone that can found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365058
however the device starts to flash, gets to 1% and gives me an error (error 294: invalid vendor id)
Does WM6 prevent you from performing a hard reset while asking for a password?
Can I install any of the spl's on this site (so I can flash another rom) with just the bootloader? or is there any way of installing roms without using active sync?
Thanks again guys for your help! I assure you it is much appreciated!
I found a rom that works! Unfornatly I dont know much about it. The name of it is v1615_3.28.161.1.zip
I've uploaded it to rapidshare Here
It is an offical untouched rom from vodaphone directly.

You might not be holding the 2 keys long enough. You need to hold them for several seconds after you pressed the reset button.

It can't, the button method does the job before WM6 would get loaded.
But I guess if you've been able to flash you shouldn't need the advice anyway. Still, you should do a hard reset after flashing to be sure all previous and/or incionsistent settings are cleared.
Hold the two soft keys then poke the soft reset button with the stylus while holding the soft keys - hold them until you see a new screen, make sure they are fully pressed. then a while screen will come up and you press the "send" key to go through with the hard reset (reset to factory settings).

What is the difference between Hard Reset and Clear storage?

I want to know the difference between HARD RESET and CLEAR STORAGE given in Settings of VIVA.
Thanks in advance.

Clear storage - hard reset is done via software.

Newbie Tech Problem!!!

I've just recently gotten into different ROM's for my Sprint Touch Diamond. I am currently running Mighty ROM6. Now it flashes fine but after about a day of use I notice the phone starts acting up. Programs disappear, Opera browser stops working and I have to reflash. Is this a common flaw with the Mighty ROM6 or is it something I am doing wrong? I just don't understand how it works fine and after a day or two of use I have to reflash it. Any and all input would be great...

I'm not sure about Mighty ROM6, but issues can occur when you don't clear the device from the previously cooked rom.
2 Choices to clear device:
• flash a stock rom first before flashing
• use mtty (link found in my signature)
Regardless of choice, after flashing the selected cooked rom of choice, don't forget to hard reset your device.
Doing this takes out the variable of it being your devices fault and thus puts back the onus to the rom.
Good Luck!

Looking for you re: stock roms
as far as mtty is concern, it's a tool that clears your device. Not too newbie friendly though.
HARD RESET DEVICE:
Right after you soft reset reset (red button) simply press Vol_Down + Circle button, then when you see another simple gray menu choose Vol_Up to confirm format)

Look at the 2nd post, of edited my response there.
By the way, another trick is to flash a radio or a rom via Internal Memory Method found below:
COOKING ROMs & Radios from phone =-
1. open from your PC the rar or zip archive and extract only the BIG .nbh file
2. rename as DIAMIMG.NBH
3. copy the renamed file into the root dir of your "Storage Card" or "Internal Storage" (the one of 4Gb... NOT to the internal phone memory!)
4. soft reset your device and within 3 seconds push together the Vol_Down + Back button (the one on the right above the hangup button) and keep pressed until the boot loader appears (the one with the color stripes)
5. soon as you see the bootloader stop to press those poor buttons
6. a very simple gray menu will appear asking you what to do, simple press the power button to perform the ROM/Radio upgrade
7. while the upgrade runs be patient and don't press again the power button, reset the device or play with it until it finishes, when finished a message "UPDATE SUCCESS" will appear, now you can safely reset your device
8. who prefer can perform a hard reset after the fresh cook (soon after reset simply press Vol_Down + Circle button, then when you see another simple gray menu choose Vol_Up to confirm format), even if this has no-sense because internal memory is pre-formatted during flash, but... there is always a but... for some unknown "scientific" reason sometimes an hard-reset can save time & headache
p.s. still looking for the pesty stock rom thread....
