Charging fault? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

For a few days my phone hasn't been charging, and at first I thought it was a problem with the battery, but having bought a new one I've realised that when I tilted the charger to the left it would charge, but when it's just left it wouldn't, so I guess a bit of a miss-alignment.
Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this problem?
Cheers, nathaniel

try another cable and make sure it's the one that came with the phone. you should have a usb one and a ac adapter. if both are like that then you need to warranty it out.

Yeah, Ive tried it with the USB cable and the charger, I got the same result. Is there no quick fix, I'm going abroad in 9 days and quite need my phone...

There are a few discussions on bad USB connectors in these forums -- searching might provide some things to try.
From what I can remember, it's possible the pins in the connector (on the phone side) might be bent out of place -- you might want to inspect them with a magnifying glass and try to carefully bend them back if any seem out of place.
It's also possible that the connector itself is broken -- in which case you're looking at a service call.

this seems like the problem i faced. i was also facing the same problem and i read the forums here and found it as a usb port issue. so i slightly bent the usb port so that the contacts are aligned and then it started charging

Hey I would also recommend trying a new a new charger again because I have had my share of faulty chargers. Last time I had a problem charging was with a brand new cable that did not work right at the box from At&T and thought it was my battery until i tried another charger that worked. I would suggest trying the charger that is not working on another phone and see if its actually the charger or if it is your phone that is not working.

I think it is to do with the pins in the connector.
I had a search but I'm not very good on forums and I can't find anything of any use. Does anyone have a link?

Just look at the last few pages of topics, you should find something... there are threads about broken USB at least once a week.
One common conclusion is to avoid using USB cables other than the supplied one as their
plugs are a little thicker and tend to deform the phone's plug over time (I admit I always use others though, and as a result do sometimes need to wiggle the cable a tad and not move anything anymore once the connection is established... ).
I once dismounted my Hermes and tightened the plug back a bit, it helped, I've never done it with my Kaiser yet though. If you're not used to dismantling and fixing devices I'd recommend returning it for repair indeed.

I had a the opposite happen, it would charge but no data connection with my pc. If you look at your extUSB port on your phone, see if the black plastic tab is cracked (which was my case) or if the pins are shifted. whatever the issue, its obviously hardware related, take it to an At&t service center tell them whats wrong and if your in warranty they'll change it on the spot.

He got the same result using his USB cable so that would rule out the charger.

Kaiser broken usb port

Hi, I've broken the usb port on my Kaiser, making it impossible to sync or charge. Can this be repaired?
How broken is it?
Is it just loose or do you think something else is wrong (e.g. bent pins, etc.)?
I would take it appart and take a look if I were you.
Maybe its the USB Cable....did you try another USB Cable?
I tried another 2 cables, as well as the AC adapter charger - it's definitely the Kaiser. It's to do with the pins. To elaborate (I was hoping not to, but....) I was in bed, lights out, and I wanted to reset the Kaiser, so I was trying to insert the stylus into the little hole by touch (no funny business, honest) and I'm sure I pressed it into the usb port a few times by mistake. So at the very least I've bent or broken the pins.
Well, I've rung a repair facility taht does HTC products, and the person on the line said that if it was just the connector, I'll be up for AUD $110 (I live in Australia). But if it's the main board, then I will be up for AUD $590!!! If it's the latter, I may as well by a new one! I'll have to send it in to find out.
Mine had broken pins...hTC told me that the usb connecter is part of the motherboard and that the board would have to be replaced for $389 (US). I ordered a new one from AT&T (cheaper + rebate!).
Now have a back up that I can use for parts, or charge the battery in the new one and put the battery in the broken one! I can play with ROMs and radios on the old one
AND, I now make darn sure the stylus goes into the reset port rather that the mini USB port.

im having tha t same problem
any one know where to get this fixed if your not using the oirignal rom for cheap price?
bluetooth synch and external battery charger
I have the same issue here, my htc felt down and since then it's very tricky to synch via usb and sometimes tricky to charge up the battery.
So I'am now using the bluetooth connection to synchronize with my PC . I also bought before that an external battery charger for the tytnII on ebay from ecell for around 4 euros . I also bought a second set of battery for around 20 euros.
the tricky part is to succeed in seting up the bluetooth connection the first time , but I don't know I eventually manage to do it after several tries .
But of course now I won't risk any rom update or whatsoever.

Depends who you get to do the work (or if you buy the part and do the work yourself). If you review the Kaiser Service Manual (avail through the Kaiser wiki here on xda-dev), it provides part no details etc and shows you pics of what you're in for. All is not lost although it does make me wonder how pulling the plug *out* caused this problem - what is there to snag
Oh and most people will refer to that as the USB connector (whereas the charging block is commonly the thing you plug into the mains socket).
Please search XDA, this has been address in one way or another many, many times. Search for broken USB port. You can buy the the porst and try the impossible micro-soldering repair, or send it off and have it fixed. One service a lot of poeple use is http://www.ppctechs.com/ I think they charge $79 to repalce it.
If you want to see what is involved in doing it yourself; and why I will never try, look at post 4 here:
http://www.modaco.com/content/smart...hf-mini-usb-replacement-project/#entry1001118
I busted my plug and did not have enough to get it fixed, and there is not way I was going to try and fix it myself. I got a cradle with a battery charger from ebay; it even included an extra battery. I just leave one battery charging and swicth them when they die. It sucks becasue I have to take my back cover off every day; but it was only like $10.

[Q] Touchscreen response problem

I replaced the screen on my phone myself but somehow i lost the little flap that goes over the touchscreen connector, does anyone know where i could find a replacement piece for that? Or if there is something else i might be able to substitute for that?

I have no clue, but chances are it is some kind of insulator, could you not make something out of paper or card?
And your subject says response problem? Try a screen calibration.
Yea i tried a screen calibration but it always fails though. I was thinking about trying a card or something but i didnt know if it would be safe to use tape on that part of the phone, i might have to send it to Dell
Why start two threads on the same issue? and this one is in the wrong forum.
Because my computer was messing up so i wasnt even sure if this one even posted, is it really bothering u that much?
Yes, it bothers us that much.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I have a question about the screen... I have a big problem with it...
So my battery often runs empty. So I need to charge at several places - at the computer, in bed, in my girlfriends house.. so i bought some usb-cables for the streak... and some usb ac adaptors, like for iphone, with 12V and 1000 mah output.
So, now the problem: The cables aren'T original, but they work great. When i charge the phone with the original charger and a faked cable, also no problem. But if i use any cable with a non-original ac-usb adaptor, the screen bekomes unusable. if you want to delete a letter in a sms than, you write a m and a b und strange words, i can see the swype-line doing what it wants. same on homescreen, cant press the right icons. if i unplug the charger, everythin works fine again. i also compared the data of the original dell charger and the alternative one, same output and mah-number....
Have you ever heard of this problem?
And most important, do you know how to solve it? (please don't tell me to buy an original charger, i dont want to wast 40 € for this....
Yes, same problem with Wagan Home/Car ac/dc charger ONLY when AC charging. Probably isn't good for device, but I've never had any battery problems. Screen issues go away as soon as charger is unplugged. I just don't use the device screen when it is on that charger AC only. Works fine in car (DC).
Okay, I won't tell you that the only way to avoid it is to use the Dell factory charger (but it is)
kraz
Well, it is not, just tried the ac adaptor from my sister, worked fine
That screen behavior is caused by unfiltered output of adaptor (china, is it?).
Can be at least partially solved by using a ferrite ring or USB cable that already has one.
For example:
http://www.dataq.com/products/hardware/accessories/fc.htm
for this orice, i can also buy a new adaptor and hope that this helps
but thanks for the info
(and no, it's from great britain, but made in china )
RadioShack part #273-0067 2/bag $3.19. I realize most recent poster is from UK. This info is for anyone in USA having the same problem. One on each end of usb cable gets rid of 85-90% of interference, and makes screen usable while charging with non-original (Wagan) charger.

I replaced the screen on my dell streak myself but somehow i lost the little flap that goes over the touchscreen connector , it has 6 pins
And its call ribbon connector i thing?
can anyone help me find this part
i appriciate it
thanks
i had the same problem. I cut a tiny piece of a business card (make sure its a sturdy one though and not regular paper). Place the cut piece over the connector but under those gold pins. works just fine now

usb charging problem

hi
i have a problem with my SGN the device keep telling me its charging even when i disconnect the device from the charger i have tried to flash a new kernel with no luck the problem remain and i have flashed a new rom and made a full wipe and im still getting this error dose any one knows what's causing this problem help me please
thanks in advance
Dirty micro usb connector
You might try this. It fixed mine, which is why I wrote it
It might "look" ok, but get a strong power loop (15x) to really get a good
look at it.

I had the exact same problem last week. Ics was unusable due to pop up: charging paused. Voltage to high. Even when usb was unplugged.
I fixed the problem by running the battery flat. Charged to 100% ran fully flat again and then charged again. No problems since. I think the problem was caused by flashing cm9 when on charge. Sounds unlikly but its all i can think of.
Hope this helps

this problem has been discussed earlier. please do a research and you will see a solution. the problem is hardware not software. take the battery off and then push the usb pins straight insde the phone. take a tiny screwdriver and push the usb pins in the usb port of the phone straight back inside the phone. problem solved.
Final solution to charging problems
Guys, stop messing around with cleaning and pushing before you do more damage to your Notes.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180772505164...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3514wt_1002
arrived today, 7 minutes later replaced and all good and working perfectly. It is really easy to do that (unless of course you have warranty, in that case just have Samsung do that for you - I couldn't because Samsung does not give a flying f**k about customers in Canada who happen to prefer the International version of their own f**ked up product - especially with the COMMON problem like this one)
There is a video tutorial on YouTube about opening the note, for this particular part it takes total of 12 philips screws and prying the case with plastic case opener - I ordered this tool of e-bay as well)
You don't need to be an expert to fix this problem...
You get an airbrush and blow some air on your phone's micro USB port. Do it a couple of times and you should be good to go. Some logical reasons why you get this problem, is that overtime some lints and dusts can gather and accumulate on the insides of your Note's micro usb port.
A simple airbrush is all there is to it.
I my case i tried cleaning with air, with alcohol while it was in the phone and when it was removed from phone and nothimg helped. Replacing the 16 dollars part fixed the problem (hopefully) permanently

Just to chime in with my own experience. I started having this problem a few weeks ago. The phone would keep telling me it was charging, even with it not connected to any charger, or would constantly flash the battery icon in the notification bar from charging to not charging continuously. Even rebooting the phone did not help at all. When the phone was off, the screen would continuously show a grey battery, then a green battery with the indicator dots below it saying it was charging (and it was not even connected to a charger). Since the phone was constantly keeping itself awake from turning itself from a charge state to an uncharge state, it would drain the battery quicker than usual, about 10%/hour when screen was off on ICS.
At first cleaning the ports with a interdental brush and some alcohol and then blowing some compressed air helped for a few weeks and then the problem came back. After that, cleaning the ports did not work. I have also tried pushing the usb strip inside the port in as suggested above and that did not work.
I figured it was a hardware problem as I did a search and I saw that the Galaxy SII and GNexus (which are also 2nd generation Galaxy S phones as the Note is) were also having the same problems as well, and the result in most cases was to replace the charging port. In fact there is a 17+ page thread in the GNexus forum where the charging ports are problematic here on XDA. I guess the charging ports in this generation of phones are not that great as I have never had a problem with the charging ports of both my Epic 4G and Nexus S 4G (which were from the 1st generation of Galaxy S phones).
Since I am in the USA, Samsung USA will not fix my phone since it is an international version, and I don't want to ship it out of the country, wait weeks, pay a lot on shipping costs, and hope they actually do fix it. So I decided to fix it myself.
So long story short, I ordered a new charging port from eBay (~$10 shipped) and a set of Samsung phone maintenance tools (small phillips and torx screwdriver, tweezers, a pry tool and 2 guitar pick looking tools) from eBay (~$3 shipped) and watched a few disassembly videos on Youtube and did it myself. It was actually very easy to do and took me no more than 15 minutes. All fixed now, no more "phantom" charging, no constant annoying phone waking-up-by-itself notification beeps, etc.
My solution
Same problem here too...but thanks to some posts in XDA, I could determine that it was basically a result of dirty USB connection points.
So, I used a tooth brush to gently rub and clean the connection points from the outside ( without dissembling the USB port- not that adventurous u see!).
After a little bit of cleaning and blowing air into the port I switched on the phone and the problem was gone!:good:
Been just a couple of hours since the 'treatment'- will keep you guys posted if it comes back...fingers crossed!!

Good luck!
Hopefully yours continues to work after the cleaning. Mine did the same thing for a couple of weeks after cleaning it and no amount of cleaning or pushing the pins back worked. I finally broke down and bought a new charging port and did it myself (see my post above yours). In fact, since I did that fix, it has been forking flawlessly ever since. I still think it's a common problem in the 2nd generation of Galaxy S devices (GS2, GNote, GNexus) for whatever reason since it hasn't happened to either of my 1st generation Galaxy S phones (Epic 4G and Nexus S 4G). Maybe a bad batch of charging ports for our phones possibly. In fact I'm thinking about buying another charging port as back up if it does happen again just so I don't have to wait a few days for the part to arrive.
If it does happen again and cleaning doesn't work, then I really do suggest changing the ports. It is really easy and their are several videos on YouTube that show you how to open and take apart your phone. You can buy everything you need off eBay for about US $15 (charging port and Samsung tools).
Hi all. There is a standalone way to charge the Note GT n7000 battery? I'd like to try if it works before buying a new usb module but without battery I can't.
Thank you very much.

New guy, coming in hot...

Need advice from PPC-6700 folks on VZW XV6700. its currently wont take charge via the usb on bottom. i purchased new battery and most i get is phone turns on for few seconds and shuts off after it hit home page. and the light does not turn red when plugged in. it was working fine up until last week.
Maybe a bad usb port pcb. Could be a failed mobo.
Meh, bold type not needed...
Thanks for quick response. Im relatively new to diy with phones. is replacing the usb on this device something id be able to do myself? without possibly causing more damage.
Look at a tear down vid. It may not be the port pcb. You sure the battery is good and connected properly ie no bent connector pins?
No loose ribbon cable connectors?
historically that battery was never secure based off the design itslef. i may have bought dud battery... id need one more to test that theory. i have 8 different cords ive used and nada. its the old half octogon looking ones. they aren't prongs like the ones now.
I can open it up and send pic. Maybe you will see something I’m not..
You can see more than me. The port looks ok.
Finding out what common issues that device has may be useful.
For that device I'm not going to be much help other than the very basics.
Can you access the boot menu?
Use a known good power cable and charger; make sure they are good. Cables fail erratically and unpredictably.
Power it completely down and try letting it charge overnight.
ive been trying to sneak in but it shuts down if i try anything. plus i cant find one tear down video.. looks like i may be creating the first. ill sleep on it instead of jumping in half cocked.. ill give you update soon. thanks for your time.
tbh! i was gonna attempt to splice open old usb cord and bypass port using the wires directly to prongs? what you think

Get a new cable preferably OEM.
You start splicing and get it wrong or if the cable is bad at a different point... you're trying to troubleshoot it, not start new trouble
Sounded better in my head lol. but the first cord that stopped working wa replaced and did great till now. ive rounded up 4 others from storage. non seem to catch. im trying not to order a 2nd new battery and cord. even plugged into pc or laptop it doesnt recognize anything.
