airplane-mode / gps ONLY - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

hey,
is it possible to turn off automatic to-airplane-mode-switching when turning off the radio module?
background is, tomtom rejects to work when device is in airplane mode. but when i turn wifi on (or bluetooth, meaning any connection to prevent airplane mode) and radio-module off, tomtom works like a charm. i just want to have to gps running, no other connections - but without airplane mode on.
please can you help me with a registry fix or something?
thanks in advance!

hi, gps is normally always activated - also in flight mode, so what do you mean
do you mean turn full off gps?
Do you mean: Flight Mode=everything off?
HTC GPS tool will get GPS connection.
TomTom will not get GPS data and will tell you're in Flight Mode.
However, if you enable Bluetooth TomTom will work in Flight Mode.

If you enable BT then you are no longer in flight mode.
This is not the same with mine. I have TTN6 and it works fine when I am in flight mode. Was sitting next to the window on a BA flight recently with flight mode on and switched TT on just to try it. It told me I was in flight mode (bottom left hand corner) but after a minute or so locked onto satelites and showed me my position, speed etc. My camera warnings kept coming up - warning me of a 30mph camera when we were travelling at 400mph!
By the way BA actually tells you on their website that they allow the use of GPS devices in flight, but not at take off and landing

GPS works in Flight Mode?

Tomtom works very well on my TILT. But as long as Flight Mode is turned on, no satellite can be found. Is this a ROM limitation, or a software limitation, or a hardware limitation. Is there a hope to fix it? Or did I make any mistake? Thanks.

Hmmmmm think about this one for a second. Flight mode is made to disable ALL radios when in an airplane so as to NOT cause interference with the Pilots Instruments. GPS is a type of radio, therefore "Flight Mode" disables GPS as well as Wifi, Bluetooth, and Cellular radios.
Simple Answer........ Its SUPPOSED to disable GPS while in "Flight Mode"

Thanks for the reply. Then it is possible to disable phone and GPRS while keep GPS working?
Over the thanks giving holiday, I was able to use the GPS with flight mode on.
The GPS would not pick up a signal unless I held the phone to the window. Signal dropped immediately when I would pull the phone away.
Edit-I flew if you did not pick that up.
GPS works perfectly fine in flight mode here.
Where were you? If on an airliner, you rarely get any GPS signal in there, the metal hull acts as a good shield and prevents signals from reaching in. Even with a good receiver, you will have some signal at some point if sticking the receiver on the window, but usually it's unreliable and it will regularly drop. Forget about acquiring a first fix inside too, if you want to standa a chance make sure the GPS is on and has a fix before entering the plane.

Disable all TRANSMITTING radios - GPS only receives, so no problem there.

Actually I disagree. Flight Mode is supposed to disable all radio transmitters on the phone, so that it does not interfere with the airplanes electronics. But since GPS is only recieving, and not transmitting, there is no need to turn it off. The GPS satelites will be transmitting signals no matter what the setting is on your phone, and thank god for that - the airplane is likely using the GPS for navigation.

Then I stand corrected. I never use flight mode these days because of the wonderful communications manager we get. I just click on what I want on or off. Its the easiest and most efficient way to have running only what I want on and killing my battery.
GPS/TomTom works perfectly in Flight Mode, I used it many times this way.
Thanks for the discussions.
I googled and found a possible solution to use GPS with phone disabled. One can set up a Simcard Pin. After rebooting the phone, you will be asked for the pin number, press "cancel". By doing this you disable only the phone service but GPS is supposed to keep running. At least I got it worked once this morning.
In flight mode, TT doesn't work in my case. The software says "no signal (flight mode)". But it's not gonna be a problem if the above solution works. Will try it again later and report here. The weather is not good here now in NYC .
By the way, I am doing it not for saving battery. I will travel abroad in the next month. It is important for me to have GPS work in flight mode, because the the locked device is not compatible with simcards from local carriers.

Just unlock it. It isn't hard. You can usually get the code from your carrier.
Try switching on flight mode AFTER starting TT

On my device (HTC TyTN II not a Tilt) TT6 works while flight mode is on as long as TT6 is started before turning flight mode on. It's only if I attempt to start TT6 while flight mode is already on that I get TT6 telling me it won't do its thing because of flight mode.

Question Airplane mode turn off

Hi
when I set device to airplane mode, after turning off my mobile radio stays off. it is not searching for network.
i have to go to phone app and call for *#*#4636#*#* and there is setting for phone 1 and there I have to turn on GSM
is it only me?
im rooted, global 12.5.16
I have a similar issue, if I put the phone in airplane mode, when I try get out of it, thr quick tile does not work, I need to go to settings to do it
my second problem is, that if I have data connection on, an put phone in airplaine, my internet is working :O

Question Connectivity Issues - WiFi/Airplane Mode

This is driving me crazy..
I leave airplane mode on when I have a wifi connection (at the house). If I leave the house and forget to toggle off airplane mode, meaning wifi is on but NOT connected.. airplane mode is ON.. once I toggle airplane mode off to establish a connection, the phone will be unable to establish any data connection until I restart..
If I disable my sim and re-enable it will work.
Does this happen to anyone else?
Is this clear enough?

This happens to me on the pixel 7 pro. After a flight when I turn airplane mode off it takes ages for the phone to pick up signal and I have both physical sim and Esim
For me it seems related to wifi. If I have a wifi connection and turn off airplane mode, it will get a signal. If I lose wifi connection with airplane mode on and then turn it off it will never establish a connection.
Anyone experience this?
