[REQUEST] App Store-Beat the iPhone!!! - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Let's make an App store for all the important cabs on this wonderful thread.
Let's get some ideas on how to do this.
Like having a website with all the cabs listed so you can download them directly to the device. I am talking themes, cabs, roms(to go to SD Card for flashing)
Let's get creative, we can do it. Let's not wait on Microsoft.

Hey man, Project Gecko has been in beta for a while.
There are 2 advertised on XDA and Gecko is the only one that comes to mind at the moment. Maybe someone else can help me out with the second one..?

I know a little bit of web design, so I may play around with this over Christmas break. (I am a school teacher). But other ideas would be appreciated too.
Goals:
1. Centralized location for apps, tweaks, roms, etc
2. App Store Accessed from device (not just active sync)
3. Improve as much as possible

this sounds like a great idea! also, you guys may want to see this. it is a database of ppc freeware.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pocketwit.html

Ideal features...
TF 2/3D/Today screen/Programs menu direct access
Download manager similar to Opera
Scrolling features through phone type/sections/apps
Small ad placement = income generation for storage
Recent Updates menu to notify when upgrade is ready (integrate in SMS/email system linking to DL)
CAB only policy to weed out nasty bugs
XDA mods to police the uploads
Exclusive program list (homepage) which charges developers for front page access. (scrolling banners in predefined format)
Free vs. Pay program areas.
Point system for repeat users. Points = discounts for pay programs.
Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Great Plan
Sounds like a great idea, one resouerc for safe, uncomplicated modding and upgrading of the touch pro keep up the good work

What is the BEST Freeware available for the WIZARD?

Hello Everyone! It seems like I stumble upon an awesome program for the MDA at least every week or so that is freeware. I wanted to create this thread so we could share the software with each other. Here are a couple I found in the last few days:
Minimo Browser - The pocket version of Firefox! Still in beta but very cool nonetheless. You can get it here: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
FloatMe - A simple little program written by senior member _tb_tb. This program allows you to take any program that is running on your MDA and make it open in a MOVABLE WINDOW! You can get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282913
Do you have any favorites? Please share them in this thread! Please provide links so others can download them
Thanks,

The "must-haves" for the Wiz:
* SmartSKey -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060 (add functionality to softkeys with press/hold)
* OmapClock -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40284 (overclocking; note SmartSKey can be set to automatically start OmapClock on start up; OmapClockPlus also does this)
* PQzII -- http://www.nicque.com/PQz/ (remap a key to act as CTRL or ALT; set keyboard shortcuts; basically makes the keyboard useful! There is a Wiz-specific version)
* Someone mentioned Vijay555's Device Lock: Lots of other good stuff there. Check out http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases
I use VJOKButt to fully close an app not just minimize
Also VJEschaton to do a soft reset from a command.
He provides lots of examples but you can set up your own shortcut to act just the way you want! Map to a key (I use DoubleLauncher which isn't free but others are)
This one is also a fave:

Do you prefer a clean version of WM6 or with extra applications?

Do you prefer a clean version of WM6 or with extra applications?
And which applications do you like?
C_shekar - I think you need some investigation which kind of soft user needs.
So let us post our vision of required soft preinstalled in ROM.
as far as I understand we taking about freeware.
My List:
1. Touch flo (if there are any possibility)
2. Dict
3. Alreader light 2\Hali reader
4. Total Commander Mobile
5. TCMP
6. Pdf - viewer
7. WM5-storage
8. Some sort of timer.
9. ICQ application (qip for example)
10. Gsplayer
11. Rar mobile
1. No RAM disk
2. 24MB Pagepool
3. TouchFlo
I think the ROM should stay clean, so the user can decide what apps he wants to add.
I think one can only add the HTC home tab thingie!
Cheers
divocak
no ram disk ??
man are you mad ?
for what reason you need all amount of RAM ?
Are you know that without ram-disk device SLOW DOWN ??
But I`ve agree to save some extra mem by lowering page poll. (I think 16 mb will be ok )
No, just leave the pagepool at 32 as I think it's neccessary to keep the Rom goes fast. No more software should be added I hope 'cause users can add them in later on. Just all the important fixes and patches. And that's all. Anyone want to personalize the ROM can do that by creating an extendedRom in their SD, is it, so just try to keep the version pure (one of the best exapmle is buzz 3.33). But, the ROMs that personalized before by certain developers are appreciated as well.

Oh i dont know that - i think that ram-disk is only for storage. thanx for info.
I agree. The upgrade rom should be a clean one so a person can choose exactly what software they require and will use. We must also remember that we all use our PPC for different reasons so there will never be a rom with software we all want or need.
Clean and Clear
Hello!!! Yes I think the WM6 should be clean version, if someone wants to install apps they can do so. The reason to keep the clean version is to make the device run faster.
Although there should be a clean version but also there should be a choice of software (seprately given). If need be people can install them on their Device.
Kind Regards
Jay
removing the extra applications will not give more storage
it will not give more memory
it will just mean that the rom part of ones flash is left more empty
some softwares are necessary...
because not all of Himalaya users are goood at play the phone, they need it quick and all-in-one.
may be we can cook 2 ROMs,one clean version of WM6 and one with extra applications

very very clean please
What I personally use from 2003 and 2005 ROMs is:
phone
contacts
notes
tasks
calender
SMS
activesync
camera
windows media
bluetooth for mono headset, gps receiver, audio over car radio (behaves like mono headset and mutes for phone or navigation)
connection manager
picture viewer
sometimes Word, wouldn't miss it
Never used:
games
download agent
file explorer
gprs on/off
internet explorer
internet sharing
modem link
search
Powerpoint
WM5torage
email
Very unwelcome: certificates
I do use all settings from the tabs Personal and System, from the connections settings I only use Bluetooth
But -although a contradiction to my wish for a very clean ROM- I do believe that not only I, but most of us do like some features like smartdial, TouchFlo, PDF, VERY LOUD ringtones and repeating alerts for notifications, missed calls, missed txt messages and so on. And localisation would be very welcome too.
Theoretically it would be best if either during the flash operation or at first boot after flashing it would be possible to make your own selections using some kind of wizard/script that would be intelligent enough to warn for example that the help files will no longer be available if you remove IE, that probably SMS will no longer be available if email program is not installed (I guess).

Ya but this is personal List of what you use, if developers starts building personal roms, it will be never ending story.
What I suggested is to build a clean rom, Hyman said the right thing. Build one with basic clean rom and the other with fully loaded and whoever wants which ever they can pick their choice.

Personally, I don't think so.
If one wouls want to install some software (common used, for example) he would install it in storage mem. And I could make it into rom instead.
If you don't want to use it - just don't use it
One day we would make a kitchen - and then all could make their own personal rom.
Personally, I can tell you that I'm going to release a clean and speed tweaked rom - once, and then I'm going to start releasing my personalized one.
It seems like we all get the answer now. One pure version and one with all modification that builder desires. No more discussion I guess

I wanted to give insight in how I use my Hima, it is by no means a wish list for a personalised ROM. (although volunteers are welcome to cook one for me ;-)
I hope others will give similar insight in their uses.
When I flashed to WM5 I thought I was using a clean ROM. It did come with Powerpoint and Exell, IMHO a waste of space. It didn't come with a working smartdial and it took me a full day to find a smartdial that works on one of my Hima's but not on another almost identical Hima. IMHO an awful waste of time unless you like to reinvent the wheel.
I've seen discussions in other threads about what they do/do not call a "clean" ROM. IMHO a clean ROM should offer as much basic functionality as possible. I believe Smartdial is one of these basic functions.
But every piece of software that you can find elsewhere, like Powerpoint and Exell should in my opinion be left out of the clean ROM, right?
A kitchen would be a good idea. A kitchen with a clear step by step manual that any noob can follow would be even nicer. Perhaps such kitchens were around before the ftp site closed, I'm only here regularly since a week or two.
I downloaded two files with the word kitchen in its name and unfortunately neither explained to me how to use it.

I tried just about every input method including touchpal and indeed the best for me is PCMKeyboard. Two disadvantages:
-It works good as it is but much better after creating personal skin, dictionary, settings.ini. It takes a lot of time to do all that.
-It's still a beta, regularly expires, might be payware in the future (creator is disappointed about donationware earnings)
@Ather90: why do you upload anything trough Rapidshare?
-Cootech has a perfect download page on their site:
http://www.cootek.com/download.html
-lots of people can never download from rapidshare because their IP or government prohibits its use
-rapidshare is a slow download method unless you pay for it
-rapidshare downloads have no resume
-I've seen several crippled and 0byte downloads from rapidshare and I've read lots of similar reports in forums
-as far as I know Rapidshare stores uploads only for a limited time, they'll become erased and obsolete, dead, links...
It's a very nice SIP, but... it doesn't have a national language support so...
..and yeah, as Maggy said: ALL things you're writing about, you're putting them on RapidShare... keep in mind some authors don't like it. And it's unpractical.
oh .ok iw ill start uploading them sum where else and if the product has its webiste i will post it also...i will also upload them to FTP...

Suggestion: AppToDate to mimic iPhone App Store?

One (if not the only ) of the nifty features of the iPhone is the ability to browse and download applications for the iPhone. The application AppToDate tries to support the automated download of new versions of applications for WM, however, it doesn't seem to be able to actually list all applications that are available through AppToDate. If this would be possible, then this would be a move towards a similar functionality as the App Store application gives on the iPhone.
It may be a good idea to
1. adapt AppToDate to also show not yet installed applications, for browsing fun, and
2. to start append to the AppToDate configuration many applications that are at the moment not yet supported.
This is a suggestion which may be interesting to the developers around here, or maybe something similar already exists for WM devices to which somebody can point me?
That sounds like a really good idea. It would mean all the current developers of Windows mobile apps would need to make sure that they are incorporated into ApptoDate but that would be a good thing.
Would also have to adapt ApptoDate to enable paying applications to be included to, and thats prob where the confusion would begin.
Be good to have one that includes all the latest Diamond apps that are currently being worked on and released on here, thats a start and can then be built on as time goes on.

Yes, if all developers on XDA here would use the AppToDate, and we would find a means to have all supported applications listed by default it would be a perfect starting point to start getting momentum.

[CABS] Just bought a Fuze? You gonna need these cabs, son!

Nice phone, huh. Step up from the Kaiser, that's for sure. Radio's a tad weaker and the phone's a little short on buttons but more importantly you need to get rid of the AT&T stock rom right quick and pimp your phone XDA style. Sure there are plenty of "cab corners" but they usually have a bunch of crap with no explanation of what the crap's supposed to do with 4shared fancy-boy GUIs or impossible CAPTCHA limited use Rapidshare links that just piss me off and make me sad. So I made my own collection on my own server with my own bandwidth with no sissy interface. Opera friendly too. So fire it up:

boomin
Very humorous, Thanks.
Another Thank You!
Thanks for your time, and humor in creating this repository!
Solid work nephew, I can digg it! Nice collection of some dope cabs to use to trick out this beyotch. One thing tho....the left/right D-pad is sweatin me, any fix fo that? Peace
Awesome thread. I just picked up my Fuze on friday, and I was hunting ALL OVER THE WEB (including XDA-devs) for some worthy links.
Got 5 new cabs right off the bat, thanks
And I agree with the post above, the D-Pad is killin me...I just avoid left/right all together now.
Thanks! ... regarding the D-pad.
I appreciate your appreciation fellas.
The one thing pissing me off the most about the Raphael is the damn D-pad left/right issue. I mean, they take away the buttons and the thing they leave they screw up. Here's an entire thread on the issue in the general section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446246&page=2 - which for the first page is a bunch of "me toos" but on the second some guy comes up with this idea which might be viable. It may never happen but it's good we got people thinking and maybe that thread will keep going toward a solution so subscribe to it.
Here's thedocrn proposes...
I propose someone should create software to do 1 of 2 things:
1) Use the G-sensor to control scrolling. This function would be activated by touching, not pressing/clicking, the center of D-pad. Similar to how you focus the camera. This action would activate the software thus allowing scrolling in all 4 directions by tilting the device.
2) Change the input so we only have to Touch the D-pad (like how we zoom in on pictures/Opera) to move in the desired direction.
He's offering money...
What would make me happy is to be able to remap the volume buttons. Anybody?
Thanks again for checking out my site!
HEY I just found this thread for GController which I think lets you dance around as you would with the D-Pad but by tilting the phone. Good luck configuring it. It's on my site or you can grab it off the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429569
Hey d0ugie...
Check back on that thread you posted a link to regarding navigating with the Death-pad. A guy posted a suggestion several posts below mine, and so far (crossing fingers) this technique has been FAR more accurate!
I've tried G-controller, and although it's a nice program it's not one that I'd want running all the time. You have to 'align a center point' to start off, but if you lay your phone down or click it into a holster on your belt that will activate scrolling. Would be nice if this program can be activated/deactivated by touching/releasing the center cirlce (like focusing the camera lens).
I like your website! Will you take suggestions from users to add more cab files there?
good stuff, thanks for the cabs
I am getting this error when I try to log in, using IE7

Hi georgiejr ,
IE reports the error but it was ok with firefox. I have downloaded all the apps.
Thanks a lot d0ugie
Fixed IE bug.
Not sure why any of you are using IE but hey, each to his own, not going to judge you.
I deleted the XML line that was causing the problem and it works now.
AEBPlus.cab when installing says unsuccessful.. any ideas?
Ctrl key
I see that putty.exe is in the list of Fuze software.
I may be dense, but I can't figure out how to get a CTRL or ESC keypress out of the thing.
It's nigh impossible for me to do anything intelligent without vi or nano.
Are there any cabs in that list that will remap (temporarily or permananatly) the OK and windows keys to get me a CTRL and ESC?
re: putty
I know it sucks, all I use it for is tailing my apache access.logs. I tried googling for some alternative (like backspace is ^H) but I realized those keys involved CTRL themselves. So I think we may be SOL.
Awesome page! Thanks!
awesome work
you just made my day. I figured out most of the information then I came across your thread. You could have saved me more time! But thanks buddy. Great job.
