Windows Vista Mobile Center problem - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey everybody,
Im trying to connect my diamond via mobile center so that I can manage my contacts more comfortable.
My problem is........suprise...it doesnt work -.-
When I plug in my diamond and choose "Active Sync" on the device, somethings trying to install (WM whatever device) and then it stops with the message that drivers are not found and device is not installed properly.
When I open Mobile Device center, I see that after I plug it in it starts searching but never comes to an end, and the installation also fails.
Any idea what went wrong? I have Vista 32bit SP2.
I also installed the setup for more drivers for mobile center. I uninstalled it a thousand times but it simply doesnt find my device and the drivers for WM device...
Thanks for ur help !!

Works for me, but browsing files on my diamond via Mobile Center never worked.

Well nice that it works for you, tell the whole world buddy but why do you write in this thread when u dont have a solution or the same prob....
Any updates on this one?
Have the error message Code 10, device cannot be startet

Code 10 is a Driver problem.
What hardware is reporting the error?
Have you updated the Driver and directed it so System 32?

try to install this one

Vista+WMDC+Wizard Don't Play Well Together

Well I was one of those brave souls who decided to buy Vista and give it a whirl. Since this site isn't about Vista all I'll say is it's a pretty decent OS. Anyway I installed vista, installed Office 2007, and then installed Windows Mobile Device Center.
When i connected my wizard, running WM6, Vista found it and installed the drivers. No problem. Windows Mobile Device Center then opened and I set up the device. No problem. Windows Mobile Device Center then started to sync and it crashed. It gets through about 60 contacts and crashes everytime, after reboots and all.
I've tried this with Office 2007 and Office 2003, I've tried this with 3 different ROMs, and I have turned off and on the advanced networking functionality. Everytime it crashes!
Has anybody else experienced this problem? Can someone please tell me how I can sync my phone with Vista? Better yet, can someone please tell me how Microsoft has released a brand spanking new OS and their software to sync mobile users is still in a f'ing beta for RC1?!?!?!?!? Or maybe even when the final copy of Windows Mobile Device Center is to be expected?
Thanks.
i have no problems try to uninstall the WMDC and then reinstall it. I had the same problem once but then uninstalled it and reinstalled it an the poblem was gone no more hangings the only thing that doesnot work is the syncronisation with vistas media player it doesnot show the storage card in the phone but all other things work perfectly.
Uniinstall and then reinstall WMDC. When u go to Controlpanel >>> uniinstall programs>>>> u can see 2 programs of WMDC installed uninstall both of them and the reinstall the WMDC this will solve the problems u have.
Or try different USB places front or back side of the PC if the USB cable is at the back side of PC try to put it in front side if your PC have front side usb connection may be that helps if not then do the uninstall and reinstall thing i said above.
I have Vista Ultimate, had a slight problem syncing with Outlook, but then I dl a the device centre update, and now it works fine
Thanks, I'll try that when I get home tonight. Hopefully that works.
Has anybody heard anything about when the final release might be comming out?
That didn't work but Microsoft released a newer version, that works perfectly, that I posted links to in the main Wizard forum that can be found at the link below.

Kaiser / TyTN II / Tilt Users running Vista I need your help

I have been running Windows Vista x64 Ultimate for some time now. I have been able to sync fine for some time now but all of sudden I am unable to now. I have tried flashing back the original AT&T ROM and still haven't had any sucess syncing it to Vista. I was doing some reading on Microsoft's website and found this solution to the exact problem that I am having.
I have re-installed WMDC 3 times already, so I don't think that's the problem either. I can't do a system restore because my restore only goes back that far. My phone is able to sync fine with Windows XP Professional so I pretty sure it has something to do with Vista, not working correctly.
Here is the error that I get and Microsoft's solution to the problem:
Windows Mobile Device Center fails to connect due to the Windows Portable Device driver failing to load. In some cases, you may be unable to connect and only a red X error icon is displayed in Windows Mobile Device Center. This can be caused by Windows Portable Device driver failing to load. Connect your device
Go to Manager (Computer > Properties)
Find the Portable Devices node
Locate the Windows Mobile device entry
Choose to uninstall the driver
Reconnect your device
I tried following the directions but I am not sure where to go. What is Microsoft talking about when it says go to Manager? I have no idea where that is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am been fighting with this for some time now, about a week in all, and I still haven't been able to figure it out.
Oh this ActiveSync issue was thought to be resolved by WMDC but not yet completely. Anyway, you might try the above as Microsoft says. Manager is the Device Manager. You shall find it by right-click on My Computer icon, select Properties and in the Window that opens, a link to Device Manager is at the left top corner. Is that the one you were looking for?

Carty..

Thanks for the quick reply but I don't think that is it. I have searched through the device manager and couldn't find anything that related to what Microsoft said. I was just wondering if there was something else they were refering to but I was guessing it was Device Manager. However I thought they would just say "Device Manager" if that's what it really was.
Dude, i think you are on the right track. The "Manager" is definitely "Device Manager" although the Portable Devices item will not actually be displayed in Device Manager if the Kaiser / TyTN II is not actually connected to the PC via USB / Bluetooth.
Try connecting the phone to the PC and check Device Manager again. If the Portable Devices heading does not show up with the phone connected the steps suggested by Microsoft may not fix your problem. Let us know how you get on. I have 3 vista PC's here with me so I may be able to help you work it out if you still have no luck.
Cheers
Chris
I needed a hotfix from microsoft before i could even sync mine the first time.....

Problems syncing with Vista...workarounds?

Hello I've read around on this problem, and I cant find a fix for it. Orange UK HTC Diamond, I don't have the driver CD or anything but it seems it should be stored on the device itself.
I plugged it into my laptop (Vista x32 Home Premium), and first time it comes up with "Uknown device installed. Searching preconfigured drivers." It closes and nothing happens.
I have WMDC 6.1 installed, and have unchecked advanced network functionality.
If I install XP on a VMware virtual machine, will I be able to activesync to that ? (eventually I want to install HardSPL etc.)
Anyway, and hints/tips would be amazing.
vista and diamond
I just got my Diamond this weekend, I was upgrading from an HTC P4000. I was out of town (my home pc is XP) so I decided to sync my contacts over his vista machine (btw can this be done easily pda to pda? bluetooth?) The P4000 had trouble syncing with vista, took a few tries. After outlook at all my stuff from my old phone, I put my Diamond in and... nothing. Didn't see it, but it was charging. I fought Vista for about an hour to get it working, I had to download a windows mobile center patch off of microsoft, and restart the computer+phone.
When I got home to my XP machine, I plugged in and activesync took care of everything.
All the advice I can give you is try uninstalling your phone drivers (in device manager) and try different usb ports, and restart.
heres a link to the MS troubleshooting page I tried:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
Hmm I'm starting to think it might be the standard USB connection that I'm using, do I need to use the standard HTC cable?
I've just tried phone on XP, and its bringing up the same error with Activesync 4.5
It is well-known that in vista you have to download, and install, Windows Mobile Device Center to sync any WM device, even PPCs.
So what's the deal?
Hey i'm also having this problem, spent ages trying to get it to work and tried
uninstalling and reinstalling everything but just get a message on the phone saying
install ActiveSync 4.5 on PC even though im using Vista.
Any ideas??

You can't use ActiveSync on VISTA!!! Can't you read the MANUAL or make a search?! Install Windows Mobile Device Center from MSFT site.
For God's sake, use the included CD, it has ALL you need to start synching.
I have x64 Home Premium, and it worked out of the box.
I'm happy for you but the first thing I did was install WMDC6.1, as stated in my first post, and as I said it isn't syncing with activesync on XP either

Active sync in windows 7 ??

Hi, I have install windows 7 rc , and i cant have my contacts in diamond to sync with outlook. It seems active sync is not compatible with win7 . Is there a solution ? Thanks ,
in win 7 is no active sync... you have to use mobile device center
hi
this works for me on windows 7 you can download it from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx
When you connect your diamond to win7, it will automatically download drivers and mobile device center . To get Outlook is your own responsibility. You probably have a 30 day trial version on one of the disks that followed your phone, but it will still sync after those 30 days.
EDIT: I have no clue wether the trial version works in win7 or not.

Ι downloaded the above. I didnt see nothning to change. I have installed Windows Mobile Device Center and it looks to work ok. I see diamond from the pc as a hard disc, and i can use it. I also have internet to diamond throw the pc. The phone is recognized by the pc as Touch Diamond P3700, and i have the icon of sync sender in taskbar. What I dont have? The one i am interested more.. My contacts to outlook to pc.. I have installed office 2003 to the pc , and i have outlook 2003. There , contacts are empty.
I dint see to Windows Mobile Device Center to have any option to transfer contacts from phone to outlook.. Any help ?
edit... Ok I just solve it. I went mobile device settings-change content sync settings. In contact there a press sync settings ,and there it writes synconize from Pc1 Pc2. Only one was "ticked" I tick and the other , and contacts went to my pc... Very complicated i think..
Hi, I'm on Windows 7 64 bit build 7100. Trying to get my phone to sync, have installed WMDC 6.1 64 bit version, plug my Diamond in and Windows Update fails on trying to install the driver, just get PocketPC USB Sync in Device Manager with a status of "This device cannot start (Code 10)."
Any ideas where I am going wrong on this? Had no issues on Vista 64bit getting it to work, have repeated all the same steps so am scratching my head somewhat.
Edit: Solved it, turns out it was my USB extension lead, tried plugging directly into the computer and it worked perfectly lol

I think I have researched all the treads on this pretty well now & I've tried all the above including rolling back to before I 1st allowed the WDM to install to no avail. I still can't get my Diamond talking to W7 WDM still talks to my old Vista Ult machine though.
Everything looks good the updater downloads drivers then the WDM then the installs happen the device gets found and it sort of knows its a HTC device plugged into a USB port but WDM and Sync Center both don't believe its there.
I've tried resetting the Diamond complete reboots of the computer, I've changed all settings in the PC to USB menu on the Diamond (another thread) and this only changes the Device from Generic Serial to Generic NDIS but still WDM won't connect.
So has anyone got any further suggestions I can't believe its this hard every one else has no probs what might I be doing wrong (I think the fact the device is a Generic Serial not a Diamond might be a hint but I can't prove it)

Stephen Lane,
I have exactly the same problem. Did you found a solution or still facing this problem?
You can use Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. It's free to download by MS.

Dennis
Thanx alot people! This thread saved my day!
WMDC does not recognize my G1. He detect that there is a unidentified device and searching the driver to web but after a minute it was NOT successfully installed. How come? LOL.

Kaiser and x86 Windows 7.... It works finally!

Just tried to set it up again after a few months of it not working and an updated driver is now on Windows Update for you to use. Give it a shot!
Just wanted to post up for those who were feeling stuck like me.
Just installed Windows 7 Today and my kaiser doesnt sync. I tried teir new drivers and still nothing.

Worked fine for me.
works fine in x64...atleast for me!
I can confirm 6.5 works with 7 x64 I can also confirm that I cant get this to connect to my 7 x32 netbook, I can make it do everything but ActiveSync which includes Internet sharring USB and Bluetooth.
I'm running x32 ... What do you mean it will do everything "BUT" activesync. Thats kinda what i need it to do.
Ok ... i figured it out finally. WMDC wouldnt even run or Install, i should say, even though there was a setting portion in Control panel for it.
I found a article about how It wont run without running windows media player first. ( fresh Install and never ran it yet) So I went to run it only to find out It didnt exist.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate N which didnt have any Media Software included. ( Didnt know that) So, I downloaded the whole media pack and installed. then I ran media player once and Voila! All the phone drivers installed properly, WMDC Installed properly, Phone connected and sync'd.
Whew!! I'm glad thats over. I almost went back to XP Pro.

Windows 7 Ultimate is pretty nice. If anyone wants it, let me know. I found a good torrent and saved the ISO to my files for safe keeping.

I'm running two PCs with windows 7, one desktop with Windows 7 Professional (home) and a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate (office). Currently I'm trying to sync to my laptop since that is what I sync to most.
After reading your post, this is what I tried:
1. Windows updates, it did install some windows mobile thingy which failed. I rebooted the machine, re-ran the update and it installed fine
2. Tried installing Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1 (64-bit version) again, but it failed. Same message of Unidentified device and status of failed
3. I also tried your solution of keeping windows media player running before attempting to install WMDC, but no joy
Can someone please let me know how I go about this? This is frustrating, if I can't synch my pda I might as well throw it out (since I can't chuck out my laptop or job )
BTW, I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1, should I be upgrading this to 6.5 as I have read out here? I've searched on this forum but can't seem to find a download link for 6.5 (or perhaps as ASCIIker pointed out I'm going blind )
Mobile Device Center
I read this post and then was successful at installing device center. It was a weird install though. I am running 6.5 on the Tilt and Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop. I plugged the Tilt into the computer, started Media Player and configured it, and then launched the installer. It ran forever with the status bar saying 7 seconds to go. All the while, the diriver software was still trying to install. I finally got an error message from the driver software saying that it did not install properly. I opened up the troubleshooting box for the driver install and looked around a bit. Eventually, another message popped up in the driver install box saying it was trying again. Eventually, I another failure appeared. At that point, Device centered finished installing, the Tilt connected and all was well.
Total elasped time 20 minutes or so. Enough time to read a couple of pages on a new (to me) Andre Norton book and eat most of a popcorn popper full of popcorn.
Whew.
Nice to know it got solved.
It works fine for me:

This is the part I don't get, what exactly do I configure in Windows Media player? I plug in my phone, however, it doesn't seem to do anything, if I start windows media player and go to the sync tab, it is greyed out with the message 'Connect a device' Do you also uncheck the 'Enable faster data synchronization'? If I uncheck this, it does seem to try and install drivers for some 'Generic Serial' device but eventually comes back with 'Failed'

Well, I've tried the installer a zillion times now, no luck. It keeps trying for a couple of minutes with an 'Unidentified device' message and changes the status to failed subsequently
Why should it be so hard, I thought Windows 7 was supposed to make life easier, they obviously haven't heard of the phrase, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'
any solution?
Please. Iam really sick of it.
I can move files to kaiser, I can install via PC, I can acces my PDA via My Mobiler - but I can't sync! It just cycling the arrows and "syncing".
Please help, it really sux without contacts and calendar and you know - outlook.
The media center was just the initial configuration that runs when you first start it up.

Sorry is this in response to my question earlier? If so, do I start windows media player or windows media centre? I haven't tried starting windows media centre with the device connected. I'll give that a try

I use tcp's WM6.5 v11 Mega... no solution yet.... tried installing atleast for 8/10 times...

Kaiser TPC 11 mega and WMDC
The only way I've gotten Windows 7 WMDC to recognize my Tilt using TPC 11 Mega ROM is to connect using PAN over Bluetooth. I think the problem is that it doesn't report to Windows 7 that it's a Tilt or that Windows somehow knows that it's not supposed be running WM 6.5. Kinda sucks, but at least it works. To reflash I had to use the SD card since USB won't work.
I tried everything under the sun to get it working over USB. Finally had a friend with a Sprint Touch connect his using USB and it came right up, showed a little picture of his phone and worked fine. So it's definitely something in the way my Kaiser/Tilt is reporting the device to Windows. My phone is recognized by W7 and displays as a PDA, not a phone.
I'm on build 7100 and my Kaiser has been syncing flawlessly for months. My new Droid, on the other hand...No happiness yet. I've already made the call to swap the Droid for a TP2 strait across.
Been running 7 for a while now, both 32 bit and 64 bit dual boot. I've never had any issues with it not syncing, otherwise I would never be able to flash any ROMs on my phone. I even reformatted and reinstalled both after getting a legit copy from the MS Tour and it still works fine.
