Task Manager Finally! - G1 Apps and Games

In the market, and it kills apps!!!

Oh, nice. Tried it and it seems to be working perfectly on my ADP1.

Yes..seems to work...SWEET!!!

def needs refinement but so far looking good.
it needs to seperate between processes and apps.

Def nice start can't wait to see some updates on it.

Preferably some graphical updates. It can look neater than what it does. And as stated, seperating between processes & apps would be good

AGREED!
How do you know whats what? I mean if you kill a process you could cause a reset/freeze right?

From what I have seen, it can kill the process for a particular program but it still runs in the background and will possibly crash the phone. Hasn't happened yet but might after trying more programs. The only way it might lock up the entire phone is if you close one of the "stock background processes such as android.process.* " but then again... yes we still need something to kill the entire application. It's a good bit different that WM, when you kill the process for the application, then the application closes.

i hate to correct you but the process' are the applications. you mean Services' which are not listed as of yet... i emailed arron and i have not gotten a reply about that. i told him it would be awesome to list the process' and services linked to them so we could kill it all

Looks like the application was updated and it now kills programs! Excellent application, definitely one the best around now.

Questions about TASK MANAGER?
I have it installed on my g1, obviously because I have root access. I noticed there are some apps that keep coming back seconds after I terminate them. For example Craigslist and self help. Anyone know why craigslist keeps coming back. I understand selfhelp may be a background program. Also I restarted my phone and taskmanager shows these programs are already running? Whats up with that?
The 2nd question is when I terminate some apps like powermanager for example, I can still see it running in my notifications and I know it is still running because when I plug in the g1 my power setting are applied. Because it doesn't show it in the in the taskmanager list.
Does anyone else notice this? Task manager doesnt seem to eliminate some apps from running. It makes question that it really works. Can anyone verify this?

Yea it keeps coming back because it loads a Service that isn't listed on this program that continues to run the search command. The intervals are not that frequent but it keeps it loaded.

Craigslist checks every few minutes for postings, I believe. You can track particular posts. It's annoying that you can't disable it.

Can´t find it in the market..
Can someone share the app via mail or upload somewhere, please?

Taskmanager has been removed in favor of the premium app Advanced Taskmanager. It's only $0.99 and is a lot better then the old Taskmanager.

taskiller 1.5 doesn't work on my G2... killing apps really needed?

Hi,
I've installed taskiller 1.5 on my G2 but it doesn't seem to work when I try to stop all applciations.... well he closes everything in the TasKiller list which is fine but when I long-press the home button I still see applications in the "normal" application list which aren't visible in the TasKiller list...
Any idea? I've already reinstalled it... is it possible that the reason is that my G2 isn't rooted?
Any other great applications to close all open app (preferably with an exclusion list)?
Thx!
B
I dont think those apps necessarily are running. It just displays the ones recently used.
Hi,
At first your G2 must be rooted !
After that this application works lovely
well the killing in taskiller works, but I still see applications when I long-press the home button...
can someone say for sure if these applications are running or if they are just the "recently-used" list?
I also heard that applications in the background are "idle" in android and don't consume any battery, RAM or CPU... can someone confirm this?
thx
B
hi, I am the taskiller's developper.
First : the home button display most recently used apps.
Second : taskiller display all runnings app (and service) except "system", "android core", and phone app (because some guys kill the phone app for test : system will crash sometimes after)
Theses apps are maybe idle and dont consume cpu (but have allocated memory), maybe I will add feature to display the status.
Hi, maybe you can exclude the alarm clock as well from the kill-list because I've noticed when setting an alarm, and using taskiller afterwards the alarm doesn't go off anymore!
cheers

Yes I know but it's limited at 2 app and already used
I sent an email to the developer to include this feature (alarm) in the next release.
next release will automatically ignore the alarm, and remove it from the ignore list, I post it on the market as soon as possible (I try another feature before ^^)

True ,,,
My G2 not rooted, TaskKiller works fine.
Thanx "horb" for this App
Hero and Taskiller..
I have used the Taskiller full version on my HTC Magic, and was always very satisfied with it; now, the same feeling with Taskiller on my new HTC Hero. But, one question, maybe somebody can help me:
I guess due to the Hero's extended UI, there are several new, repeating processes on the Taskiller list (com.htc.provider, com.htc, com.htc.dcs, etc) which I have never seen on the Magic. Could somebody (Taskiller developers?) please provide a list of the essential Hero-specific processes, which should be put on the ignore list on the HTC Hero?
Thanks in advance.

Is there an app for this ? Block data access to app(s)

As far as I understand, with 2.2 task killers became almost useless in killing tasks.....correct me if I am wrong....
I have some apps on my phone that use lots of data connection and drain battery and every time i kill them, they come back again. So I was thinking instead of killing the app, maybe i can prevent in from accessing data connection. Is there an app for this ?
Can you tell me where you got that info about task killers not working in froyo? Cause I've noticed that And can't find any info about it.

I had Advanced Task Manager and developer noted that in 2.2 OS works differently and therefore task manager doesnt really do the job. Then in here, market comments, and google, i also found the same info.

theres also apn droid that turns data on/off out right

I see. I got the same response from the system panel developer. I made a thread about it here but didn't get all the answers.
Do you know if this is a permanent change with the way froyo handles apps and multi tasking? Or is this just something temporary because It's not the final froyo release? I'm very curious.

Market Fix for Leaked Froyo

Install it via rom manager or clockwork. Backup prior to doing so.
If things do not show up immediatly, try installing some random app and see if it populates then.
Otherwise, it will happen the next time the market data sync with the phone.
http://www.4shared.com/file/yHlfPvuv/fingerprint_froyo.html
are there any reasons not to do this? will this lead to bad dependencies? incorrectly installed applications?
What problems can this cause? Is this fixable?

A. This isn't Redhat, circa 1997. Android doesn't work that way.
B. Either they install, or they don't.
C. Problems it can cause? It can prevent Incredible only and/or Verizon only applications from showing up. I don't forsee that being an issue, ever so...
This is a simple build.prop change so that the market will show all paid apps.
Before:
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/212490:user/release-keys
(Market: wtf is this?)
After:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF91/43546:user/release-keys
(Market: Oh hai, Nexus One!)
Thanks
This worked for me and I got the Documents to Go paid version which was the only thing that I was needing. I had some problems with it kicking me off the network and having to use wifi to connect. After a reboot I was back on the network though so I don't know if that had anything to do with adding this.
Out of curiosity is there a way that I can go back to what it was so that when the market gets fixed it would work like it is suppose to? I saw in the build.prop file what you changed and thought I could just change that back but I wanted to ask before I did.
Thanks so much for this.
This will break custom boot animations?

To have the market checkin right away do the following so you don't have to wait or download any other BS apps.
1. Open the Phone app
2. Dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (2432546) ** When you type the last "*" what you typed will disappear.
3. Wait for the message on the notification bar to say "checkin succeeded."
4. All paid apps that were missing should be available.
Thanks.

I guess I'm the only one that has great streaming audio quality. I use Pandora and even before changing the audio quality setting to "High" it didn't sound bad. I wonder what that is that makes it hit or miss on these devices.
Anyways, I just wanted to point out that the AAC fix really slows the phone down a bit. It changed my quadrant scores from 1200's down to 790-800.
Just a FYI.
P.S. Thanks for the Market fix!
i have the htc music widget on my homescreen. after installing the update with the streaming audio fixes whenever i reboot my phone my music starts playing automatically. now when i remove the widget and reboot the music doesn't play.

Ouch, yeah, it did. Is there a way to undo this or fix it?

Need some suggestions from you guys.

I am getting this tablet ready to send off to SO's mom for Christmas. I want to make a guide book of sorts to help her use the tablet. I'v rooted it, put nova launcher and gotten rid of lock screen ads. As well as put the google play store on it.
What should I include in the guide?
So far its how to turn the device on/off, and thats basically it :/ I just can't get my self in the head of a non-tech savy elderly individual.
Did you block OTA updates or it might undo all that you've done at some point?
A quick line on what all of the apps on it atm are for maybe.
How to buy a book, show, app
What the various icons in the status bar, notification panel mean
How to change the notification sounds and possibly font size.
Could put some bookmarks in the browser for sites you think she'd want
Got the ota blocked. Thanks for the suggestions. So far I have turning it on, what the home screen is, and app drawer.

Do you mean actually background running or the recent apps on the square button carousel?
If the latter I don't think it's significant, if you look in running apps and cached processes on android though you'll see the older ones that most of them aren't in either anyway. Some of those processes in settings just restart as well.

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.
