just wondering because there is a cf 2 to usb host card out there and there are SD to micro SD adapters but I can't seem to find cf 2 to SD but with it I think we could get usb host on any SD equiped ppc now that would be slick. Or is this just one of them things where you could cary over the pins on the compact flash2 card to sd or does it have to have the inbetween I have found plenty sd to compact flash but nothing the other way prolly because a device that would take a sd card could never house a compact flash card inside it but sense I am looking at having it all external prolly built into a compact powered usb hub its not a issue.
well im thinking if I take one of the sd to too cf2 adapters and pry it open I may be able to just solder it all togeather and get it to work without the adapter that im lookin for if I can get this working would anyone else be interested in have a usb host dongle for there vogue and ummm I think this thread may fall into the univeresal mod sense in therory it should work for any ppc with a micro sd card slot. So if a moderater would want to move this to the right thread thats fine with me.

well from the website it says you can directly copy stuff from cards to a hard drive you have installed in this without the need for a computer so my thought is yeah it has usb host my only thought now is would it hook up to the usb port on the touch and be recongized it might need a special driver.

Curious if there is a way to hook up either a flash drive or an external hard drive through the usb port on a rooted nook color?
Since the underlying OS is Linux I don't know why. Don't you just need to know what mount point to use?

Do you have a flash drive or external hard drive with a microSD connector? I've not encountered these on anything but mobile media.

Internal power for an external drive might be a bit much to ask, considering that to charge the nook in the first place takes a special cord with extra power. Should be enough for say a standard USB flash drive with the right adapter though. No idea if that is the right one, but you get the idea.

Anyone out there have a powered USB hub, they used to be common as dirt. I suspect if you connected tablet to hub and drive to hub you could create a way to do this with some creative thinking. Assuming the ful usb driver stack is in android/book rom it should work with the right mount commands. It all depends on the drivers though, usually usb stacks use different drivers for being targets like the book is in usb mode, rather than for mounting other devices as targets.. it's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure there would be much of a benefit, it might prove to be slower than USB mode since the book CPU would be doing all the work.

I am taking off for a month long vacation to Asia and India soon and am having a tough time imagining my life without a functional computer... so, what better alternative (along with my 3G phone) than then Nook Color...
but...
One of the most appealing concepts to me would be to use the NC as an "uploader" of pictures I will be taking with my SLR.
So, can this be done:?
1. take out MicroSD card from Camera and somehow, with some adapter, connect via the USB port on the NC.
2. Use an app to mount/view the MicroSD storage unit and copy to the NC storage, some/all of the pictures i want.
3. Use the SmugMug Andoird App and WiFi via NC to upload pictures while I travel.

Check in the development section for the thread on usb host support. It tells you how to hook your camera to the nook with a usb cable, I've never tried it but a lot of people swear by it.

I have NC with CM 7.1 stable on EMMC. I am able to use an unpowered USB card reader to transfer pictures off both full sized and micro SD's. Other than being on CM7 the trick is getting the correct cable. Here is the one I use:
Micro USB Host Cable (OTG Cable) - Xoom, Galaxy S2, Nokia N810 / N900, Toshiba TG01, Archos G9. New Version with more accommodating "L" shaped connect

You'd probably be better connecting directly to your camera, if your camera can do it. For many things connected using USB host you need a powered hub, but since the camera has its own power it probably doesn't need the hub.

This would obviously cost you more money, as microSD (I believe) is more expensive than SD, but it would save you some hassle on the Nook side.
There are few ways to get this done but b4 trying one, make sure you meet all requirement.
1. Some members suggest you swapping the uSD. It's a fastest way BUT make sure you are running CM7 off eMMC if you're booting it off the uSD itself, then forget about this method.
2. If you Tx pix directly from camera to NC, make sure you do have the microUSB-to-whatever your camera USB connector type: miniUSB or USB, cable.

This is what I do. Micro-sdcard w/ adapter in my Canon. Pop the card out, and put into the NC (after first uninstalling the card I normally have in there).
view pictures, copy them to internal memory, etc.
As stated above, you must not be running CM7 off the sdcard for this method to work.
I think it would also be possible to plug a flash drive in using an OTG cable (w/ power) and backup to that as well - I haven't tried that yet.
If you wanted to run cm7, you should be able to do the opposite - sdcard into a reader plugged into NC using OTG cable (w/ power?) and then copy to the sdcard that you are running cm7 from.
wow im interested in this, but do we really need a otg cable? since cm7 comes with usb-host support?
btw can the nc supply enough power to the card reader? or a 1-to-2 splitter so that the nc can be charged at the same time?
and what apps are suitable for this kind of usage?

That's the cable that works for me. Plenty of power for the card reader.
i also use a microSD to SD adapter in my camera, and pop the microSD to copy the files in the internal memory of the nook (then, as i am a freak about not loosing my pics, copy them from internal memory to 2 backup microSD's)
i dont know if it impacts in anyway in the performance of the camera, i shoot with a 12 megapixels canon powershot in jpgs and 720p videos. i'm not very exigent with the transfer rate of the card
it seems that quickpic (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder) is a good (and faster?) alternative to the built-in gallery.
what is needed... (for people who need to use a card reader) since the nook can only supply 100ma power...
1. a y-splitter cable (where can I find one? are there ready made ones?)
2. a usb charger
3. a microusb male to usb type-a famale
4. a card reader, of course

I have what may seem a strange question for you... Is the Galaxy Note able to read information from other Memory Cards via its micro usb port?
Let me explain....
I am off on my travels fairly soon and am wanting to travel light. I will be taking my camera and Galaxy Note in lieu of a laptop.
What I am wanting to do, is view the pictures that I have taken on my camera (which only has a 3" screen) on my Note which obviously has a larger screen.
The cards that I use in my camera are micro SDHC in full sized SDHC adapters, so in theory I could take them out of the adapters and put them straight into the memory slot on the Note.
I don't really want to have to keep taking the back of the phone off to do this though, so I was wondering if I could slot the memory card, via a cable or adapter (which I have found on ebay) into the micro usb port on the bottom of the Note and it be able to read the contents of the card.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Sorry for all the waffle but I need you to understand the method in my madness.

if there are usb adapters for the same, then i guess it should work. because pen drives and few portable hard drives do work flawlessly when connected to the Note.
Thanks for the help Guys. My adapter arrived today and when I hook everything up, the images from the camera memory card show up in the Note's Gallery. Perfect!

Since this device lacks the microsd expansion slot, I was thinking to add it internally. I don't know yet if it's possible, but my idea is to add it in the sim card empty slot.

Well it should be feasible, it's enough to connect the usb pin, but there are some questions to be answered.
1) If a memory card is inserted will a device connected to the 30pin connector work? Or does work only 1 device per time?
2) Will this kind of connection work like a normal microsd holder connected to the mobo by default microconnector? I mean, will it use more power, will it drain battery faster because voltages etc..?
3) will it be useful due to the possibility to install apps?
It's important to have answers to these questions, but the operation is very feasibile.
Well, I'm thinking that this mod using the usb pin doesn't worth the trouble.
Usb needs 5.0v and it's too much. Using 5.0 continously drain a lot the battery.
Instead a stock 3.3v powered microsd, is far lower battery hungry.
The problem is to find on the mobo the pinout (if present) to connect a microsd holder.
Gt-P7500 is ready for this connector, but as far I saw on pics of 7300's mobo there's nothing similar.
It would be interesting to read the service manual of 7300 just to understand if the chip and the mobo are predisposed for such a connection although not present.
Internet is full of 7500 service manual... but something for 7300??
I've found this generic adapter, ready to be connected on the equivalent pins on the mobo. The problem is to find the schematics of 7300, just to understand where and if are the sd control pin on the chips (but I guess so).

I have the HTC One and I am trying to get it to read several sd cards/thumb drives at the same time. I have the HTC One connected via USB OTG to a powered hub. The powered hub has a thumb drive and sd card reader plugged into it. Both the thumb drive and sd card reader light up... but I can only see one device on my phone. Is there any way I can set it up so I can see all devices connected to the hub? I want to be able to transfer photos from an sd card to the thumb drive, on the go without a computer. All drives/cards are formatted to FAT32, I am not rooted and do not want to be.
