Lets do a Walkie Talkie! - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Hello, I saw those funny sprint commercials where you have people like delivery men running schools, music junkies running an airport etc.
So I was thinking of having an app for the raph that will use wifi or bluetooth to communicate with other phones in the area running that program.
I found this: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5440.html
but I was hoping if we can work on one that will run on WM 6.1, and symbian (for those nokia n95s and stuff) to communicate in a walkie talkie like fashion.
Anyone up? =)

its called push to talk, pay for the service.

Im sure he is well aware of push to talk. That was a pretty arrogant response to a perfectly legitimate question. I use PTT on my device, and I pay for it.
NOT ALL DEVICES ARE PTT CAPABLE. But all have either bluetooth of WIFI. I would really like to see this mature into a program. I think it would be really cool for a program to use PTT on a wifi connection through a wireless router. That way the rx/tx field would be more widespread than bluetooth.

I started a tread about Loudtalks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3239233#post3239233
Loudtalks is a freeware ;-) IM program for "walkie Talkie" Push to Talk.
And it works all over the world, also over GPRS or Faster.
You don't have to be on the same wifi-point.
It's quick, simple (even i can instal), works on windows mobile and windows pc systems.
Download, install, fill in a username and password and you can chat. Even with your self (echo) hihi.

Thanks, everyone. Unfortuneatley, LoudTalks only works on windows mobile :-(. Having a program that works exclusively on WinMo excludes the rest of the world that has symbian or another OS. Does a multiplatform program all ready exist?
I woould really like to see something like this that takes advantage of wifi or bluetooth.

But it might work from one motorcycle to another or from car to car... Ok, we use PMR or LPD ;-)

sjphone
Use sjphone !

Unfortuneatley many of those applications are available JUTS for windows or JUST for symbian.
I'm trying to find a solution that will work for both.

i think palringo can be used too, it can be used for windows mobile and blackberry.

It's a waste of time.
Seriously, if you want good talkies-walkies, buy some real.
With bluetooth it's just LOL, and with Wifi it will drain quickly your battery. And all participants must have device compatible and the soft.
And no garanteed it will works nice. Wifi is crap for this usage.

A bit of an old thread but I am looking for exactly the same as the OP and replies such as this are somewhat blinkered.

Bluetooth is less suitable than WiFi due to its shorter range, agreed.

With no knowledge of the intended usage, this is possibly entirely untrue.
My need for this is on a motorcycle when battery drain is totally irrelevant since it will be constantly powered from the machine.

When you have such a specific need, I'd say it's perfectly obvious that the participants will be collaborating and have the same software that they need. Another supposed 'negative' that has no substance.

Not at all. If that were the case, due to your arguments presented above, no Windows Mobile should ever use WiFi.

It'd still be pretty awesome to have this, lol.

its just that ive been using fitday for a while and all the phones i eat the most often are already preset. i would have to read up on the other programs and see whats closest to it. i emailed fitday to see if they will have a wm version
While there is no way you could ever run FitDay directly on a Windows Mobile device, there is the possibility you could run it on your PC and remotely log into the machine from your phone. There are a number of remote access solutions for Pocket PC/Windows Mobile that allow you to remotely log into a desktop.
The other option would be to purchase an x86-based UMPC (ultramobile PC) such as the HTC Shift or the OQO or a similar device. It will be a lot larger than a Kaiser though, and will be rather clunky.

Music ID...iphone identifies song playing through mic...is kaiser capable too?

http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/07/make-your-iphone-listen-to-your-radio-and-tell-you-whats-pla/
came across this...it would be really nice if there is an app like this for the Kaiser, or Windows Mobile to where i can just launch the app, put it near where the music is being played, and it will identify it.
There is, A app named Music ID (Originaly from the AT&T Tilt).

In the UK you can dial 2580 from your mobile and put the phone mic to the music source. About 30 seconds later you get a text with all the song info.
http://www.shazam.com/music/portal
There must be other services like this.
I love how it was such a big deal when the iPhone became capable of this.
Even crappy motorola phones have done this for years.
would be cool for tilt
If you are an AT&T subscriber, you just dial #43 from your phone.
There is a charge for the service.

I don't personally have this service, so I can't give you any more info, but you can check out the link.

well actually, its more like i just didnt know until i came across the article that it was possible with the device. I'm no fan of the iPhone....but that doesnt mean the feature is nice, and plus, its a third party app...

for everyone else: This program comes standard with the AT&T Tilt
Tried running on WiFi, but that didnt seem to work, but worked on tmobile data, thanks a lot! =)
anyway to get it working with WiFi though?
If it comes standard on the Tilt maybe someone can compile a cab?
It'd be great if it could run off WiFi, Canada data is expensive!

The software is free. The service is not. For instance, if you're an AT&T customer, I believe there is a $3.99 per month fee for the service and you can look up as many songs as you want.

This software is handy piece of software...I'm amazed at how it can identify songs by listening to them!
I'm a bit confused about how this is supposed to be a service that you have to pay for. I am not an AT&T costumer and I can use this software on my TyTN II over GPRS or wifi to identify music. How is it that they charge me for this service?
Here's the cab. I'm surprised nobody posted this.

Paml Pre- Anyone got one?

Anybody get a pre? I've seen one really great review of it and one kind of crummy review, very curious about getting this phone for my wife. Any recommendations on a good site (the XDA-Dev's for PalmPre)?? Thanks!!
not sure, but i dont believe HTC is manufacturing the pre
XDA = HTC phones.
again, not sure, if it is manufactured by HTC there would probably already be a section on the forum devoted to the pre.
I have heard a lot of good things about the phone.
only 2 cons so far: small keyboard, and programs lag a little.
other then that, Its a great looking phone, with new innovative GUI
I don't think I would be able to use the small keyboard. I can barely use the one on the Treo Pro, and the one on the Centro is too small for me... and I have relatively small hands!
Yeah, I know there won't be a section here as it is most definitely NOT an HTC device, hence my posting in off-topic. I was jut wondering if anyone knew what the best Palm forum is.
I've heard from another member of the forums here who has one that there are some hardware probs with the phone, dead pixels and bad overheating problems. First run Blackstones had similar issues so we'll see if this doesn't get straightened out in the next shipment. I'm not too worried about the small keyboard as my wife has doll hands and long nails anyway ;-)
Best bet is Precentral.net
Its not nearly as robust as XDA in regards to the manipulating and hacking of the device (possibly cause its just brand new) but its probably the biggest Pre / WebOS focused message board at the moment.
Yep i have red this is a crap
A piece of crap... is the way that many people has referred about the new PALM Pre.. why? i dont know, but I think its not powerfull than other device from PALM or HTC, but, does this palm have WinMo? maybe this feature can make it a little stronger.
I saw a few videos and i cant remember about it, cause it doesnt matters to me... Palm doesnt matter for who is a HTC user, you know...
BTW that litle qwerty seems to be for a kid... they are very happy cause the edge of the device is soft... what an amazing development!!!!
Well let us know if anyone has a little toy like that.
There should be a Pre section on this site...I dont see why now. There's 2 for the Palm Treo's:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=321
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=466
I might be getting one after some of the initial updates and bugs are worked out. 2 of my friends have one and they seem to like it so far comparted to their HTC TP.

Makes sense...Thanks
I played around withh it for a bit an the keyboard is soft and hard, but maybe your wife's doll hands will be fine lol
The web browsing is great. And I like that it's slim. Other than that, I like my Pro. And I don't know of any other issues. though. Good luck!
I do have to say that the Pre UI is pretty sweet. I hope the Android team takes not and realizes that the built in apps can also look good. As noted a few posts back, the Pre does have a bit of lag when you launch new apps, but the card manager works great for switching once they are open.
I have to say that I love the hardware design of the thing. reminds me a lot of the HTC Touch Dual. I hope HTC brings back the Duals form factor in a new Android handset.
I played with one today at the Sprint store...
The keyboard is better than I expected, better than the Treo Pro, much better than the Centro...
There is a "slight" lag when opening applications, but it doesn't seem to be with all applications.
The card interface is really cool and works great!
I have a Pre, so I would know stuff:
The in-store Pre's are running demo software, so they will have more lag than the real model
There is no file explorer - This is a huge change from what were used to on Windows Mobile, lol, but you don't necessarily need it.
Multitasking is AMAZING! Nothing can match it. Using Turn-by-Turn GPS while streaming Pandora in the car is seamless and works just as you'd expect.
The app store, well, give it time!
EXCHANGE: If you're exchange server doesn't use a SSL connection, then you're screwed. Palm has to release an update before this will ever work. Trust me, there's no other solution.
Synergy - I wouldn't know how well this works because I can't connect my Exchange server, which pretty much defeats the purpose.
Overall, I'd say that for your wife, the Pre would be perfect. It's like an iPhone, but you can do wayy more. It's not Windows Mobile though, so don't expect a bunch of functionality. But this phone works perfectly for what you want it for. Everything just works the way you would expect, like how the phone wont lock the screen unless you put it in your pocket (brilliant!)
But watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9uNABNcCoY It's an Opera Mini vs Palm Pre browser comparison video. Opera Mini smokes the Pre, lol.
So I would say, get the Pre for your wife. Everything is soo seamless on the Pre and works so nicely. If you want to be an advanced user, then WinMo (or Android maybe) is for you.

My sever is SSL, so I'm fine there.
And, of course Opera Mini wins, the Pre is doing all the work itself...
HTC did make PALMpre...i remember when it was announce back in january...i have to say it is a very solid and good device and i love winmo phone, current xperia, touch pro, and HTC HD user. Palmpre WEBos impressed me i would pick one up when a gsm version release. I believe this device took whats good with winmo and iphone and combined it together very well and have lots of room to improve as well...one thing i notice about it that is bad is the battery...make sure you read up on the tweaks n so on so you can conserve battery but most people say it dies out very quickly i dunno if its the way they using it or not but i used a unit for 2 days and still have 50 percent battery...i say your wife would love this device and make a fan out of u

Application request (wifi web cam)

Is it possible to have an app to turn your phone in to a wifi web cam?
This would be the ultimate spy tool for babysitters, cheating spouses... you name it.
I would think it would need to be plugged in or it would drain the battery fast.
This is not for viewing existing web cams, there are already apps out there that do that.
