[HALF-LIFE] Escape From City 17 - Part One - Off-topic

Amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1UPMEmCqZo
Be sure to click "Watch in HD"...
Details:
Directed by The Purchase Brothers.
The Escape From City 17 short film series is an adaptation based on the Half Life computer game saga by Valve Corporation. Originally envisioned as a project to test out numerous post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series. Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500.
Additional Notes:
Valve flew the team out to Seattle last year, and the brothers have been in communication with them since.
Derek Chan, and Ian Purchase are the two resistance fighters.
David and Ian Purchase are commercial directors represented by Sons and Daughters in Toronto. They are working on an unannounced feature film. Not HL related.
They have been huge fans of HL since the days of "ivan the space biker'

So, is this a trailer movie?
Or a new game will come soon?
I love Half life game!!

Updated original post with the additional info from the youtube page, amazing work.

Indeed, a new game is in the works but this is purely a fan-made production. They sent this to Valve without prior notice and have been working with Valve since. Amazing usage of CG and even home-made outfits. The used to Valve/Source SDK and abused it.
One of the best CG creations I have ever seen other than the Elephants Dream 9 minute short made overseas all open source. (HL 2 thing isn't open source but check out Elephants Dream)

Halo movie not dead?
Master Chief
A posh man from Microsoft says that the Halo movie will happen. He’s not quite sure when, though…
Published on Apr 9, 2010
Earlier in the week, we reported on the delays that have hit the planned Gears Of War movie. In a story that sounded similar to earlier attempts to get Halo turned into a film, New Line apparently baulked at the planned budget for Gears Of War, and has insisted on a rewritten story with the idea being to bring the budget right down. You can read our story here.
It did get us wondering as to what was happening with the planned Halo film, though. Universal had been set to make it, with District 9 director Neill Blomkamp on board, but it was ultimately put off by the price. And since then, the idea of a Halo movie has hung around in development hell.
However, IGN has managed to get an update, coming from the mouth of Frank O'Connor. O'Connor is the Franchise Development Director for 343 Industries, which is the sub-division of Microsoft Game Studios now responsible for Halo. And O'Connor is adamant the film is coming.
IGN reports that he said, "We're going to make a movie when the time is right. We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic."
We'd have preferred it if he'd said, "We have a great creative idea for a movie that we're keen to realise," but we're realists.
Expect the Halo movie when the spreadsheet, rather than the screenplay, finally says yes, then. And check out the IGN story here.

If this comes out it will be amazing!!!

One day, if I ever have the cash for it... Or we can combine it with the iPhone game thing:
Make a best-selling iPhone game, and then buy MacBook Pros with the proceeds. Bring them to a Starbucks for a much publicized event (make them think that you are launching the next game). Once you are there, start smashing all the MBPs and encourage the crowd to do the same. Then whip out your favourite Android phone(s)
Win.
I'm a little scared at how much of that list i've already done.
But one more to add to the list, that I have not done.
Get into a physical fight over O/S preference (Mac vs Win vs Linux etc)

[game] Armed! - Starcraft style

It still has a few bugs which may result in crashes every now and then. But it's very stable most of the time. At least for me. Its developers are working hard on some updates that address the bugs/crashes and add new features and maps. I for one don't regret spending 4 bucks for this - in my opinion - awesome game.
I haven't played/test it. I mostly just did some research of reviews. Seeing a good many people say it crashes during start up. They can't play the game. So, just a friendly advisory!
Try powering off your phone. It also has issues for region not being in English/US. So if that happens change your region I think. Otherwise, just wait for the fix.
I love the game, and $4 is nothing for this.
Hi guys.
I'm one of the developers of ARMED!
We're first time smartphone developers... we did a little Java phone development in like 2004, but most of our experience is in PC and console games. Try as we might we had some crash bugs... most of them related to non-US regions.
We spent alot of time before release testing the stability of gameplay... we ran thru hundreds of thousands of automated games driven by special stress test AI, but we made some rookie mistakes in other areas... like not testing the game in different locales.
It also doesn't help that it wasn't till yesterday that we got our first stack traces from Microsoft.... that was almost 2 weeks since our game was up on the marketplace. That's way too slow for the pace of moblie development IMO... we've learned our lesson there are have integrated Bugsense (google it... forum won't let me post links) for the next release.
Anyway the 1.1 release just appeared in the marketplace and it addresses all the bugs we knew of as of a week ago. I'm sure we'll find more, but at least the locale and a couple of dumb crash bugs were squashed and should make it playable for everyone.
Thanks for trying ARMED!
i like the graphics and control. Keep up the godo work.
Are the price depends on our country that we are residing or it's in standard USD.I mean for all the apps in the markrtplace.
Question to the developer:
I am an indie developer with Full-time job, and have my own game on Marketplace as well. How do you promote your game, and do you earn something for all hard work you put into the game ? As I see it right now, it would be really hard to make a living from it.
My game is free (with ads) and recently I added non-ads version of the game for people to donate something, or to disable ads.
What I found out is that from ads you earn ~0
Btw. As I said before your game is really an Eye candy
@Ttblondey
The developer has control over pricing in each region individually if they want to set them.
In our case we set the price for the US region and let it automatically set the equivalent price in all other regions.

I sort of agree... it depends on your app/game. Most of what i see on the marketplace are things one could build in a couple of hours or clones of other apps/games. It is hard to rally users behind you if you don't have a unique and high quality product.
At the current sales/ad rate we could not support our entire company (6 people) with ARMED! sales on WP7 alone. We could support one employee... but not 6.
To me this is a victory and shows the potential of WP7 in the future considering that its only 1%-2% of the smartphone market. With the push MS plans to make over the next few months i expect our revenue to at least double if we can keep the attention of the audience with updates and improvements.
That all said... we are looking at ports to other platforms to maximize revenue from the ARMED! brand and core tech. We're not ready to disclose what platforms those are yet... but it won't be Android.

We're struggling with our ads as well. It is all new territory for us, so i'm giving it some time before i pass judgement.
Our 1.0 release was missing ID_CAP_WEBBROWSERCOMPONENT which seems caused the ad network to not show near as many ads as it could. Still even after fixing this in 1.1 on my personal phone i still don't see ads at times which is really confusing to me. Still i see ad revenue improving, but its barely enough to by coffee for the office.
There is money to be made with ads... people are doing it now. Also WP7 often has a higher revenue on the same amount of impressions... but you have to get impressions.
If your game/app is not attracting users then you won't make money with ads. You need to be seeing 50K to 100K impressions per-day to really support yourself with ads alone. Most developers do this by shipping several high quality apps... not just a single one.
Looks very nice!

V1.1 work great , wish more and more item will join feture version.
I did the try on this I like this gamethat said I didn't have any issues with it at all. and when I do a try to use if I like it I'll buy it if not I remove it this game has been bought! I had a ball playing this. and didn't get bored at all with it. though It drove me nuts at times...you know when you don't play it well... over all the game is nice and nice work done on it by the Dev team....it's well worth the money....
Looks really sweet. You should consider porting it to tablet enabled Windows 8 computers seeing as the beta goes live in Feb. Then you would be the first indie to have head to head between phone and tablet

Firefall: New game kicking off with a contest

Hey guys,
This is highly off-topic, but I've been here a while so I figured I'd give my brethren a chance to take part in a new contest. There is a new game coming out this year called "Firefall." Some of you may have heard of it, most of you haven't. It's a PC game currently in beta stages that aims to be the best MMOFPS since Tribes. Red 5 Studios, the developers of the game, are running a contest to promote the game and give us gamers a chance to win some prizes. The contest page can be found HERE.
Basically, using the clips and music provided you must create a trailer showcasing your preferred class. I've seen all the entries and I strongly believe that our smart members here at XDA can beat out the competition in a matter of hours. I personally made mine in a day and I've got a good chance of winning the grand prize.
As for what the prizes are, well I'm glad you asked.
First prize: All expense paid trip to PAX 2012 for you and a friend with a 3 Day/Night stay at a fancy hotel, paid airfare, and $500 spending cash.
Second prize: A brand new Alienware M14x with a quad core i7 (2600x), 4 GBs of RAM, and a GeForce 553m with 3 GBs of VRAM.
Third prize: A custom branded Astro A40 gaming headset.
If you're like me and have an outdated laptop that moreso resembles a toaster oven than a PC, you might want to take a shot at making a video and upgrade that mess to a shiny new Alienware.
For reference, here is my trailer I made. Feel free to like the video to promote an XDA member winning the competition, or make your own and give me a run for my money .

The Programmer
My name is Jasper Fung. I devoted myself to game development since Summer in 2013. I live in Hong Kong, with my lovely wife and two energetic children. You are about to hear and discuss my gaming voyage, a compilation of failures, disappointment and frustrations. I hope you enjoy scolding at my stupidity, lacking planning or direction by replying this post. I'll check and reply as frequent I can. You can find my latest work via the profile.
Played far more video games than any ordinary teens would had in my youth, I played my first game, Romance of Three Kingdom 1 by Koei, on a PC 80286 with a 20Mb harddisk in it back to 1990. Since then I enjoyed much in the RTK sequels, the epic Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo series (which further deteriorate my studies). At the edge of being kick out from the University I managed to complete the Mechanical Engineering Degree after the SARS virus year (2003) in Hong Kong. My first job as an equity trader was breathtaking and I still working in banking till now.
What the... I spent 2 hours here just to hear you actually still working in a bank? Hell yes. And I will continue the story tomorrow.
