G1 FONTS! Post them here!!!! - Android Themes

Hey guys, since u all can see that the "original fonts" of G1 is same as other phone and surely "boring". So i think it will be unique if G1 has the other kind of fonts. So here where mine come from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480328
Well because i dont know how to take out the front so just download the theme down and install it. After than u can install a different theme over it and the fonts will be there still.
Or u can try to delete the framework and app inside the folder and install it (dunno if it will work because i never try it)
And if anyone else got any kind of fonts that can install in G1 please post it here for sharing.
Here below is some pic about my fonts:

couldn't any font be put on the G1? i can't see why only some would work.

Not sure of compatibility but i know that some fonts dont look right if they are too small. One example i can think of is segoe ui. it is a very nice font but doesnt look right below 8.
Font doesnt bother me, it is very legible and clean and matches most themes.

does anyone know how to change the font? and if o does anyone know where i can get a good font? i have 1.42 rc33

If I can figure it out I really want to make just straight Font update.zip files so that people could just download the font that they want install it over the theme that they have and presto!! There it is! If anyone wants to help me figure this out Private message me! I really want so different fonts on my phone too! Cheers!

Hm........if u read my first post, i did show u how to install the fonts i have above, but that all i know lol. Sorry i cant help

I've done that too. What I really want to do is just make a bunch of update files that only contain the font to be updated. That way it doesn't take long to update and it would be a rather small file that people could hopefully swap out even if they have apps installed and such as opposed to having to having a fresh install of RC33...
It took me about a week just to get the nuts to root my phone to begin with and I'm down to 1 so I don't even have a test phone to mess up.
I'm going to read over the theme creation threads a few more times and see if I can do it alone. I will post my results to you sir!

Yea good luck to u lol.
As for me, everytime i get the gut to try to learn how to make a theme by myself. A big headache hit me so i stopped lol.
And yea i didnt got the gut to root my phone either into i give my phone to a friend to make it can read vietnamese (G1 cant read some words of Vietnamese). And when he return it too me, he told me my phone is rooted lol i still dont know should i say thanks to him or f*** him

with the guicci theme the creator added his own font that you apply as update.zip i think its old english bt its really hard to read idk how he created it tho but this is wat u mean bt an update.zip font right? i would really like to see fonts like that and i kno it can b done i just wish i knew how to do it

i wonder how is done here is a post where it has only font update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468436
how can u sign the fonts only? dont look that hard

Thank you!
Question though. Can I just replace the TT font files with a different set of them and re zip it? That sounds way to easy but I hope so. lol

I'm wondering how you can include different fonts in the update...
when I view the files in a font update.zip i can see all the .ttf files but I don't know which ones are used under what circumstances. I'd like to not have the same font for everything as that kinda sucks...

Yea I was thinking the same thing, what font is for what? Do we just change the name of the font & replace it in the update.zip & resign? Or is there more to it?

not sure, have not tested it.. i was bout to do the same.. edit the files but idk if the cert will give me errors :/ but than again... i don't know what font is for what lol

i did it found the font i wanted to use and and copied it to the zip and renamed them to "droidsans.ttf" and "droidsans-bold.ttf" tried to update it but it won't.. forgot what it said but it aborted the installation..

Probably that the font was in use

what you need to do is sign your update. Also make sure it's a true type font, I don't think it will work otherwise.

Thank you for the signing comment I would have forgot to do that and just started getting pissed because it wouldn't work. I think that renaming the font to the ones in the file should work. I will try this and get back to everyone here. I really want this to work...
Also if I do get this to work than I will start making a bunch of random font update files and start a thread for it! Cheers!

G1 fonts! Post it here.
Dont start a new thread, that is what this thread is for, just post them here.
I am sure this will work, just make sure the font is True Type.

Don't you need an install script for it to know where to copy the file(s)? You can't just have a file called update.zip with some files inside of it and expect it to know what to do with them. There would need to be a update-script file located in the META-INF/com/google/android directory of your update.zip. It would need to have a line such as:
copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:
and the fonts would need to be located in system/fonts of your update.zip. So your update.zip would look like what I am going to attach, however with fonts. You could probably just put them into my attached empty zip template, resign the zip and be good to go. I put the original fonts in it just so I could test sign it and verify the manifest is creating properly.
You can download it here:
Fonts Update
This should work. Not sure if you had an install-script in your file, but I am assuming you did not.

HELP!! Extracting and Repacking .cramfs files

ok well since i cant get an answer anywhere else what program will alow me to extract the framework pictures to theme the new JFv1.51 update? 7ZIP doesnt recognise the .cramfs files and was also wondering what to use to repack it. im sure Im not the only one that would appreciate this information. and if its been posted somewhere else im sorry for the repost.
google ".cramfs" theres alot of results
i did sir only thing that comes up is how its a huge process and blah blah blah dont worry im sure someone will help me thanx anyways
After looking into it, it looks like it can only be done in linux. I tried looking at doing it through windows but nothing came up, which sucks. Looks like I won't be upgrading to JF1.51. O well I have JF1.5 ADP running how I want it anyway

exact same thing that i found and everywhere i look makes it seem like its this overly complicated process and the 1.51 version is really gonna suck if someone doesnt find a way to make it easy to theme.
my 1.50 is also running awesome but unfortunately the problem is just like everything else in xda if you dont keep up you get left out and im kinda getting a little anxious because i feel like i always wanna have the new **** lol but yeah lets see what people figure out.
if nothing gets figured out with the JF build then maybe ill end up moving to another more easily customizable build let it be dudes or haykuros i dont know we'll see

if your on ADP 1.5, you should have no issue moving to JF151 and keeping the same theme made for JF1.5 (ADP1) (i had no issues).
as an aside,
in comparison to gloss theme template or stock theme template:
i noticed byte size differences in classes.dex and or resources.arsc in these system apps:
launcher.apk
maps.apk
mediauploader.apk
networklocation.apk
phone.apk
services.jar (classes.dex) had a byte size difference

yep as an .apk , well I only used astro, but yes seems to be the case
this should explain why google changed it >>>>more space<<<

Google didn't change it, JF did. He compressed it to make room for all the things he added. He did this in a few other folders. But thanks this could be a long process but I'll try it out
Damm you JF ,lol, jk , see i didn't know that thought google did , but it did work as far as i know ,I had 83mb after fresh install and after running lucid script 87mb
good for space , bad for themes i guess
I'm still try to figure out how to extract what's in the cramfs image in linux. Anyone have any ideas? I wanted to see exactly how much space was saved
honestly i think it was too soon for 1.51 imo because here at wonderful XDA we have to hack and tear everything apart and make it custom and its comming down to where if it becomes too overly complicated to unpack and repack cramfs you might as well not have a rooted phone because its just like the regular us version except noone knows if the stereo bluetooth works on the JF version.
Im most def going back to jfv1.5 untill someone figures this out because i cant stand looking at that ugly ol factory white status bar and that checkered background.
either way from what i understand the only differences between the 1.5 and the 1.51 is just the that 1.51 has HQ youtube vids now and it doesn have multi-touch browser anymore

yea i just noticed that after going into the ota original version of 1.5. how bout we just erase the .Cramfs file and extract the framework folder from the original T-mo ota or from the JF V1.51 ADP. repack the JF v1.51U.S., sign it and flash it with that. then we'll be able to get to the framework-res.apk. let me know what ya think.

so in other words go through astro or use an unzipping tool that opens cramfs?
then copy your framework.res to the sdcard (using Astro) then copy to the desktop of your computer
Edit files, open archive, pack your framework.res then do what?

u would have to go to the terminal on ur phone:
type su
#mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#cp /sdcard/download/framework-res.apk (or where you have your framework-res.apk file) /system/framework
#reboot
edit: if that doesnt work use #busybox cp /sdcard/download/framework-res.apk (or where you have you framework-res.apk file) /system/framework
im in linux and have all the files/programs install/needed to create a .cramfs and I can't find a way to decompress/open the .cramfs just how to create a new one. I have google and all my linux forums and nothing seems to be pulling up... Not fun but will still keep looking.
Through ADB you can pull the files off and then push them back on also... So you can resign it and then put it back. I just wish I had a way to do it with the update file I have on my PC so that I can add the programs/files that I want and have an update.zip for it. but heh this will work for now....

System > Wallpaper > ???

When I select my custom wallpaper, I don't want to go through the resizing process over and over again. Is there a way I can copy the wallpapers I want to the system directory in order to use the system wallpaper app? I tried searching for this topic, but couldn't find anything like it. Thanks for any assistance with this issue.
*Update*I found my answer on another website:
"They are not in a directory.. they are on the Launcher.apk under \res\drawable
I know you can replace the wallpapers there with your own ( I've done this before) but I'm not sure If you'll be able to add more wallpapers to the gallery without replacing the default ones. "

The wallpapers are in the Launcher.apk file.
Replace as necessary and re-sign the apk file.
You will find wallpapers that are in there twice they are in fact the wallpaper itself and a thumbnail (with "small" added onto the name).

I've got that much from searching around. Is it just too in depth that theres not a guide for it? Sorry Im a noob to android.
The fact that you have to replace them is what gets me, is it too hard to write new ones into the .apk?
And even if (heres the noob Q) how would I pull apart the .apk, and then resign it?

Wow you are a noob. LOL.
To open the apk just use winrar or similar. Extract it like you would a zip file but don't delete anything. Now say you are wanting to replace Wallpaper1.jpeg, Wallpaper2.jpeg, Wallpaper3.jpeg and Wallpaper4.jpeg you only need to replace those 4 and the corresponding _small.jpeg file (example: Wallpaper1_small.jpeg) with your appropriately named replacements (customized Wallpaper1.jpeg and Wallpaper1_small.jpeg) and replace the original. Then take your modified files and drop it back into the /drawable directory of your apk file. Sign your apk file and you should be good to go. Make sure that you don't have a Thumbs.db in the directory. It's safe to have in there but it can take up space and it's completely unnecessary. In regards to just adding additional wallpapers it would have to be done from source. It's probably easier for a beginner to just rename and replace.
To resign... (sigh) there are about half a dozen ways to do it. Seek and ye shall find.

How to Barebone a G1 with CM's 4.2.15.1 ROM

I tried reading through the other forums and posts. I have seen quite a few on wm 6.5 but not on Android 1.6 Donut. Can anyone help me with this? I tried using the instructions on

I successfully removed the com.amazon.mp3.apk after trying several times, but have tried other apps and nothing thus far. Any help would be great. Also, if this post is unneccessary, teach me how to delete it and I will. Just looking for help. Thank you.

Hi im no dev and much of a noob
but
easiest way I found is to open your rom and resign it. Then test a couple of time and you'll work out by yourself which one are safe to keep and which one are not. Apk are in the system folder and some in the data one.
thanks to stericson, it's easy as cake
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473580
Mod wise, you can change the font (font folder), edit most apk (use 7zip to open the apk or rename it to a zip file, open it, change watever you want, rename it and sign), change the boot screen (framework-res.apk explicit tut somewhere. you got two png image to change, android-logo-mask and android-logo-shine). Can also change build.prop to enhance 2g/3g performance. work very well.

Help combining framework apks

What I am trying to do (on DC v1.1b5) is combine 3 (or more) signed zips (espresso, clear notification bar, and a taskbar) into an unzipped rom so I can sign it later and flash the whole rom with my changes. (NO I'M NOT GOING TO POST IT AND SAY ITS MY ROM lol)
All of these modifications each change framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk in their own way.
Would I have to figure out every single change to each individual apk and merge them into one file? Or is there another way?
I am not only doing this for my phone, but I am doing this to learn.
Any help would be appreciated
Yes, since there's really no way to tell which files were edited in each theme, you have to go through and find it.
Honestly, the easiest way to do this that I've found is to unzip the archive and scroll through the folders with thumbnails enabled so you can quickly see what they all look like.
I know that the statusbar .pngs are in framework-res.apk/res/drawable-mdpi and they all start with statusbar_* or status_bar*.
The .pngs for the Rosie are found in com.htc.resources.apk/res/drawable-port-mdpi/
EDIT: I would also recommend creating a MetaMorph theme when you get all the files you need. (I'm not sure if it works on 2.1/Sense ROMs, I'm about to use it and find out though) that way you can apply the themes while your phone is on, you can easily transfer it between ROMs, and you only need to use the files that you've changed, instead of the entire .apk. For instructions on creating a MetaMorph theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
on windows 7 you can make one folder called NEWframeworkapk paste all the original file to it, then copy and paste all the files from the others. it will say "do you wish to move and replace "jpg" say yes for all and then you have the changed files.
haha thats what i do? prolly some super easy way though.

I actually prefer MetaMorph over doing a zip file because all you need are the files that have been changed. However, in 2.1 a lot of files are scattered around or in different places and once the Sprint update comes through who knows where everything will be. Once I finally figured out how to set up the folders the rest I have done became easy...and no need to turn off your phone.
Edit: You can also combine more than one folder at a time

[Q] How to change default contact picture

Hi,
I need to change default contact pictures. Its for our customer who finds the green droid infinitely iritating . Anyway, I rooted the Desire HD and did s-off, Clockwork recovery is in place. Bud I didnt find any themes or even adress where those pictures are in the phone.
I will be happy for any advice what image to create, how big, format etc...
And ofcouse where to flash it.
Update:
Actually, no one solved it, i found numerous questions about this and no definitive answer. So any pro here who wants to get extra thanks ?
This is my exact wish!
Fullscreencaller works as windows... unusable
I know where the Dancing Android lives
You need 7zip installed and your chosen ROM saved on your PC.
Right click on ROM and choose
7zip>Open Archive (don't just double click to open it)
Now browse to:
\system\app\
Right click on Phone.apk and choose:
Open
Now browse to:
\res\drawable-hdpi\
Extract the folder so you can view them all as thumbnails. Then you will see 4 files called:
phone_default_270.PNG
phone_default_300.PNG
phone_default_incall_270.PNG
phone_default_incall_300.PNG
There are other contact pictures in there too, as it's the dialler so just have a look and see what you want to change.
Now, for the contact picture that appears in your contact list in HTC People, follow the same as above but go to:
\system\app\HtcContacts.apk\res\drawable-hdpi\
Then look for:
people_home_defaultphoto.PNG
It might also be worth a look in:
\system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-hdpi\
Now for the disclaimer:
This is all at your own risk. I'm not sure what limitations / consequences there are for modifying these files as I have only used this method to swap icons from other ROMs into my own. You might need some kind of special editor for the PNGs, but at least you now know where to look

What are the missing steps from my post above? I'm keen to do this myself now we're speaking about it!
Do the pngs have to be saved a specific way or is it simply a case of creating a file with the same dimensions and swapping them over? As I said, I've only ever swapped over files that were from one ROM into another rather than adding in files I've created myself.
Thanks
Your guide is awesome! But it misses the steps how you get it on your phone
You'll have to take your original phone.apk, open it with winrar or 7zip (don't extract, just open it), and drag and drop your edited images from the previously extracted apk in the right folders.
When you're done, exit winrar/7zip and put the phone.apk into system/app of this flashable update zip: http://www.multiupload.com/THCTLMRDBU
And that's it. If you want more details or if I didn't explain it well, just tell me.
Haha, yeah... I forgot to say that I do it before I flash the ROM!
Using your flashable zip is way easier though.
The only other thing is, do you have to save the PNGs with specific settings, other than them being the same size obviously?
Cheers

Click to collapse
Okay
The color depth (expressed in bits) doesn't matter as long as the png has the right dimensions, as you said.
btw, I didn't make this zip, it's from he_stheone64.
IS there any temporary rooting available for the new version of Desire HD?
I dont want to update any FW, nor root image. Thanks the help!
