HELP!!!Toggle Data - G1 Apps and Games

yesterday i download an app called toggle data from the market and tried to see if it worked. well it worked turning of data but now my phones data wont turn back on. keeps saying disconnected even when i make a testing shortcut.
and i uninstalled itconfused. can anyone download the app and post it so i can install it bk to my phone to see if i can get it to turn my data back on. if that fails i don't know what to do.HELP!!! plz

Edit: Just read camurphy's post below. He (or she) is the developer of the toggle app and explains how it works in detail.

Hi djlucklu,
I am very sorry about the trouble my application caused you. jashsu is correct. It is similar to APNDroid however it modifies the APN type of each APN on the phone. It sets APN type to a single hyphen and this prevents the phone from connecting to that access point. It stores the original value of APN type into a database when disabling, and when re-enabling it restores these values. This method works perfectly on my development G1 and in the emulator however unfortunately for about 50% of people it seems something is failing.
Go to Settings -> Wireless controls -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names and edit each access point in the list. Make sure that APN type is not set to a hyphen. If you clear the value (it will be displayed as '<Not set>') the phone should try and connect to that access point.
I hope this works for you and once again I am very sorry about this.

Hey again, I located the bug that prevented the app from working on your phone. Version 1.1 is now published on Android Market and that bug is fixed.
Clearing the value of APN type for all the access points on your phone should let you connect to the Internet again.
Apologies again for the inconvenience.

I have a problem reconnecting, I have to reboot/or toggle airplane mode on-off before I can reconnect.
Im no expert on HSPDA but I have had a simmilar problem with incorrect WAP/HSPDA settings on my old nokia where if I put the settings in wrong I would have to reboot the phone before it would connect (this was using Nokia PC suite on my computer)
I had 2 simcards "Vodaphone" and "Three" Ie if I forgot to change the setting to from "3internet" to "vodanet" I would have to reset the phone.

What about mms?
Hi Cameron
I just downloaded your app and it works fine.
My only issue is that it also disables the mms apn. I'm then even not notified that I received an mms until I reactivate it by putting back manually 'mms' in the APN type of the mms apn.
Would it be possible to avoid disabling APNs that have 'mms' as APN type?
Thank you
The G.

Hi FuentesGG,
I released version 2.0 today that is in the form of a home screen widget. When you add the widget to your home screen it allows you to specify whether you'd like to leave MMS enabled. Hope this helps

i love the app, thx camurphy

Hi Cameron,
I've just installed the update to 2.0 and after installing the widget on my screen when the button is green I'm not able to connect and when it's not green.... I'm not able to connect too!
Could you please provide me a solution as the previous advise from this post doesn't work on my phone (HTC Magic from Proximus in Belgium!)
Thx in advance.

Ok... that's working now!!
I've restored my APN settings! Thanks for the app but... that would be great not to break all connections when update is installed!

Thanks !!!

Big thanks ;-)

Hi camurphy. I installed your widget today and as soon as I used it I am unable to send sms. I can receive them but not send them. I've tried factory reset and reflashing. Replacing the mms.apk. everything I could think of. I hope you have a solution. Thanks in advance

Factory/Admin Menu access?

I know some have discovered how to access this menu on a WP7 device or two by dialing ##634# on the dialpad. We know this does not work on the HD7.
Has it been discovered for this phone yet? I'm in a bind where Wind Mobile has issues with WP7 devices and MMS messaging and read a few got it working by performing some changes within this menu.
No idea if this helps, but there's an HTC app called Connection Setup. It detects the carrier you're on and applies apn settings. Really not sure, but maybe it applies an apn for mms as well?

Actually that was my last resort and I tried that already. Sure it gave me a list of carriers to choose from but did not help even when selecting "Wind" in the end. I got excited for about 20 seconds.
People with Samsungs were able to resolve their issues by accessing this menu. So I have to rely on either someone getting the codes for the HD7 or if MS releases some kind of fix in their big update next month.

[Q] Data Enabled Option

I am using an N1 and set it up with Tmobile web2go using the internet2.voicestream.com apn for data and epc.tmobile.com for mms. Now on my G2, I am able to toggle data enabled on and off. On the N1 however, that option is not even available to me. Is there an APN setting I have to have if I'm using web2go or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the data on off option on my nexus one. Though I am using cyanogen ROM but I thought the option was always there...
That is what I thought too but does not seem to be the case. I have the option on my G2. It had micromod's 2.3 on there before and same thing, had no option to toggle data on off, reverted back to stock, still no option. I am assuming its something with APN settings, just not sure what.
Does turning off the mobile data or background data option turn it off? Think its under accounts in main settings.

That option *should* be in Settings --> Wireless & network settings --> Mobile networks.

Yes I know it should be there but it's not. I've also noticed this same exact think on my friends Captivate. There has to be a fix for this.
The option is there on my stockish FRG83D:
Hmm, in that case you could perhaps try one of the various applications available that will toggle your APN settings. I use JuiceDefender; you could use it to create a widget to toggle your data connection from your homescreen.
It's my brothers phone. I'm going to take a look at it later, he said he bought it rooted, had gingerbread on it before hand but asked the guy to revert it to stock before selling it. We'll see.
Ah, so it may or may not actually be stock. If he's looking for a stock experience, I'd suggest following the instructions found in the wiki for reverting back to stock. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend a CyanogenMod ROM for maximum speed and utility.
If it was reverted back to Eclair then it won't have the option, it was added in Froyo.
It could be that, I'll take a look at his phone if I get a chance to go home today. He is a n00b, he is a former iPhone user (not the good kind btw).
He is running Android 2.1-update1 with build EPE76. His phone is rooted, when booting I see the lock icon at the bottom. I've search the forums, can't find the original OTA update.zip file to update it to latest version. Help please?
Download the FRG83 system image from http://developer.htc.com
Use fastboot to flash system.img and boot.img from it to the phone and it will do the rest via OTA.
You are being great help Rusty, thank you. I'm following instructions here (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Fastboot) and my phone has S-On. Since these files are straight from HTC, do I have to go through and make it S-Off?
You can't make an N1 S-OFF, as long as you see a padlock on startup you're good to go.
Thank you Rusty!, you've been great help.

[Q] SMS problem

hi guy's long time lurker first time poster...
i'm having a problem with all sms sending 'failing' when ever i've got packet data turned on. its not something i've ever come across on any of my previous devices... any nudge in the right direction will be very welcomed.
p.s i'm on t-mobile uk if that make any difference.
Thanks in advance
john
check your APN settings and MMS settings.
They are sharing the same apn, but i've been playing with the setting (all know variations) but still every time i use packet data it will always fail to send any sms's.
It's becoming very annoying to have to manually connect every time i want to use some data.

Hey!
Just ask from you mobile provider, what must be your APN settings. In 2.3.4 you must ALWAYS put the APN settings manually. If you added them, save and pick it. ALL DONE!
CHEERS!
thanks i'll give it ago, was just using the setting they sent me over the air and already in sim card, will input manually when i get home, and let you know.
Thanks again for the help.
Edit: no this didn't work either, now im really peeved(lol). can't for the life of me think what else it could be. would flashing the wrong modem file cause this? as its all i can think that is left to try....

CHEERS!
I flashed 2.3.3 this morning.... will try 2.2.1 tonight, hopefully this will solve it,
Thanks

Hey!
THX man, but you not need to thank always(thx anyway ). If you dont get you problem fixed, you can try others STOCK firmwares. Sometimes it takes a lot of flashing, but it can help sometimes too.
CHEERS!
yeah flashing to 2.2.1 fixed it but i want to use FirstUA-ROM-v1.2 do you think theres a way round it?
p.s i always thank those that try to help me.
Same issue
I have the same problem, bud.
Updated my Ace to Gingerbread and found I couldn't send SMS with Packet Data turned on. Turn it off and SMS sends OK. I'm with Virgin (UK) which I believe is the same network as T-Mobile.
Re-flashed Froyo and all works as it used to. After that, I fired up Kies as I hoped to get an official version that way and sure enough it said there was a firmware update available so I installed that. Turned out to be the official Samsung Gingerbread and yet again i broke SMS when Packet Data was turned on.
I'm back to Froyo once more and have emailed Virgin to ask if they can offer any advice. I notice another report of this issue on another forum where the guy called Virgin and was apparently told the fault seemed to be with VM.
Sorry this doesn't provide an answer but thought it worth corroborating your symptoms.
Cheers!
Use fla.sh rom instead. Its very stable and fast . Multi csc too.

Big thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with the problem(thought i was loosing my mind, lol)
actually the phone was a virgin locked phone but was unlock to all networks by them for me... maybe something i can look into.
p.s flashing fla.sh didn't fix it either..
I am having this same issue using stock 2.3.3.
I bought my ace factory unlocked using it on orange. Sometimes sms will send, but majority of time it will fail until I disable packet data.
I tend to email or use gtalk/kik for messages but the odd time I want sms this gets annoying.
Oddly I never had this problem on the 2.3.4 I tried from samsfirmware.
Got the same problem. Using 3, and they just gave me a new SIM-card. Gotta finde some clever way of disabling data every time I open Messaging
yeah im looking for a way of re enabling the option in the extended power menu but with out much luck, all the modded ones seem to leave it out.

Okay, gonna try to explain it.
1. Go to /system/app and rename Mms.apk to Mms.apk.bak
2. Install the attached Mms.apk (It's from CM6)
3. Download AutomateIt from the Android Market (Just the free one)
4. Open it and add a rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should not be marked.
5. Save it and add a new rule. Trigger should be "Application Status Trigger" and the app is Messaging. Make sure "Application Adtivated" is NOT marked. And the action should be "Set Mobile Data" and "Mobile Data Enabled" should BE marked. Save this one, and you are done!
This will disable Mobile Data every time you open your Texts, and enable it then you exit your texts. The reason you need the CM6 Messaging-app, is that this tricks doesn't work with the original Samsung-app

How to I get 'My location' status to display/update?

I am unable to get the 'my location' status section of the weather widget to actually name my location e.g. Wembley / Westminster / Boston ... Reflecting wherever I am.
I am sure that previous weather apps were able to do this. It would automatically update according to one's location. In settings, all the location options have been selected inc. GPS. The only way I can get a place name to display right now, is if I manually select a city. :-\
I am sûre that i have overlooked something very simple to allow this function to work. Any ideas would be great. Thank you
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2
What I done was tick all the boxes in settings then remove the widget and put it back on it worked for me me

Thanks for the suggestion. Only issue is, the weather app is integrated into blinkfeed, so it cannot be temporarily removed or deleted. Not sure how to get this to work...
EDIT - After de-selecting and selecting location services, went for a reboot of system. Then, prompt box came up on screen, asking whether I agreed or disagreed for Google to collect anonymous location information. I selected Agree and now location is displayed! Solved
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2
The actual cause is in settings, power, fast boot. Turn this off and reboot. Make sure you have location services on as well.

Then I did check this after a reset...and it wasnt working anymore. So I will make sure it's unchecked.

Thx! The described method also helps if the phone has trouble to find a location indoor without GPS. I couldnt use Google Maps at home cause it would never find a GPS connection.
Now it just uses the WLAN and mobile connection to get the location. Great!

How to get free mobile hotspot without root

Hi. This post is for those that don't want to root (if you are already rooted you can still follow this) but want hotspot. This method is similar to the LG G3 but some how works on the LG G4 without root.
I made a video. Enjoy.
https://youtu.be/j3Di9d7w1so
It's safe to upgrade to ZVB as long as you do the trick below.
Some good news, a few people have figure out a way to keep the tethering. It requries you to downgrade back to LP (if you are on marshmallow)
(Directions created by Bombillazo, thanks to antonio824
1) On ZV6, used the steps to get to IOT menu to change APN settings.
2) Selected LTE settings > APN settings. Open the App close button (square one on the bottom menu) and check that you have separate instances for the ITO and APN menu. THIS IS CRITICAL DO NO CLEAR THEM OR CLEAR ALL!
3) Applied the MM update (ZV9 and or ZVA).
4) Let the upgrade finish and reboot.
5) When finished press the square button again and go to the APN settings window. You should be able to select the n.ispsn APN again and add dun to APN type. (NOTE: IOT will close if you select it but it doesn't matter. The important one is the APN settings window).
6) Congrats! You have Wifi tethering with MM!
7) Just in case you wanna test like I did, don't close the APN settings window and try to update system stuff to see if it changes the APN settings. I can confirm that updating your profile on the System Updates menu will undo the APN type change.
In MM, you can pin apps to the recents menu so it can't be cleared by "clear all"
Welp, this is the end folks, the new Marshmallow update (ZV9) has patched this trick. Feel free to try it to make sure but as far as I know, it doesn't work. Had a great run!
omfg i love you.
Thanks so much! Now unlimited data has a proper use
Just going to add, if, after enabling tethering, you get a popup saying "Due to network issues, tethering has been disabled, go through the same steps and select cinet.spcs instead of internet in the APN settings.

You are the man. Awesome and easy to do.:fingers-crossed::laugh:
As far as I can tell this just bypasses the check to see if tethering is enabled on your plan. Can't they still tell that the data traffic is tether traffic? After all it does show up under mobile data as "Tethering and hotspot"
I don't think they even check if the data is coming from tethering or phone use. How do custom roms work? They just enable hotspot without checking same here.
I'm not worried about Sprint monitoring data usage... Normally I hover around 10-15Gb per month usage, with a moderate amount of tethering. But about two years ago, I used a Galaxy Nexus hotspot as my home internet for about 9 months with no issues. Downloading ISOs, streaming, VoIP, etc. Regularly over 100Gb usage, never a peep. Stopped doing it because I got sick of listening to my wife complain about having to restart the phone every few days. In retrospect I should have just put a tasker script on there to reboot it nightly and toggle the hotspot back on.....
