Opera mobile 9.5 Widgets - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I downloaded Opera mobile 9.51. Whenever I exit opera, it opens Opera Widgets (sort of a menu). What the heck is that and how do I disable it. I deleted wgtman.exe from Program Files/Opera Mobile Beta but it still keep opening that widget window. Very annoying. I do not want widget. Please help.

I'd like an answer to this as well, I did a lot of searching but found nothing.

I hate Opera Widgets. I don't believe there is a way to get rid of them other than to change Opera versions. I used this custom build for a long time, and I really like it. It supports 10 tabs instead of 3, and gets pages quite quickly. Except for an annoying bug where the screen rotates 90 degrees which occurs if you tap a taskbar icon (like the sound icon), it works really well.
Dave

yea thats a bug. if you close opera using the x button or the task manager you get opera widgets and then it wont close but if u go to exit on the opera menu, you wont have that problem.

The normal builds also support 10 tabs, just change the max. number of tabs in opera:config (enter opera:config as the URL). Alas, the normal builds also still have the annoying rotation bug as well as the bug where I cannot enter umlauts on the hardware keyboard.

From my experience, I've never found an Opera build that had any tab-related setting in Opera:Config. The reason NFSFan's build is so special is because tab settings are normally hard coded into Opera, so you couldn't have more than usually 3 tabs, at least every version I've used.
Dave

I'm not sure about older versions, but the 9.5 betas currently available at http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/ certainly support 10 tabs. http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/20...-5-how-to-increase-the-maximum-number-of-tabs also has this info.

Oh, maybe that's why. The one I'm using is cooked into my ROM, and the ones I've used before it were all from other devices like the Diamond, Omina, etc.

edit: nice version thank you sir
edit2: I agree with everything you state in post 3.
ok, this one definitely feels good! quicker, feels more stable with certain websites that weren't as stable with the previous builds, and the animations seems much smoother. I still couldnt get f7 to work properly with youtube websites(kept freezing) But overall it seems of an upgrade!
I'm having the same issue I had with the last version posted and that is Opera will hang at the launch / splash screen and I can not kill the processes either, however I can still use the phone and launch other apps, but the splash screen stays on top. I have to soft reset to get back to normal.

its either the rom your using or its conflicting with another software.
So far this version seems like a definite improvement - the biggest being that I can now use the 'automatic full screen' option without it changing to full screen half way through typing an address on my Kaiser keyboard!
Haven't come across any bugs as yet.
initial testing shows:
- overall speed/feel increase
- addressbar doesn't auto-hide when typing w/ hardkeys in auto-minimize mode
bug: after closing out of opera in landscape mode, left my tilt in left-handed landscape mode. had to go to settings->system->display to bring it back into portrait mode.
Testing on June 29 ryncppr v6, 1.58.25.17 radio, hardspl 3.56
Bug: When using the hardware keyboard to fill in fields on a webpage, the field that is being typed in sometimes looses focus after each letter is selected on the keyboard. If the software keyboard is used, the problem does not occur.
With 8.65, i could copy the opera6 adr file that i have saved on my sd card and paste it into the opera folder to import my bookmarks after flashing, etc. This doesn't seem to work with opera 9. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Build 1184 vs 1409
In Build 1184 when I pressed an internet link in an email Opera 9.5 would load the page not PIE. With build 140p, PIE loads the page and not Opera Mobile. I have looked in the settings etc and can not find a way to make Opera Mobile my "default browser" Is this possible? If so how?
i'm still getting the missing address bar when typing on the kaiser keyboard. im still using wm6. anyone else still has the problem?

I am using the Titan with windows mobile six and am also having this problem with opera mobile 9.5. Anybody with a fixed build?
Yup - my vario III on standard rom does this - I can only type one letter in from the keyboard before the focus is lost. Also it's not running as the default browser and there is no option to set this :-(
Looks lovely though....
Default Browser key:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/: DEFBROWSER/1
Note: the above key is "colon and capital 'D' together" but the board makes it into a grin icon. lol
by default, it should be ":MSPIE", you can change it to the location of OperaL.exe, generally "\windows\operal.exe"
Bug: RSSHub is no longer able to open a link, it gives the error "file http://.... cannot be opened"
Fix: RSSHub seems to be connected to pocket ie. you will need to reset all registry references back to pocket ie and THEN apply the default browser registry hack. ( soft reset after all that )

Registry change worked like a champ. Opera Build 1409 now opens when I select a link in an email. Thanks a Bunch!!! Sorry I can't help with the RSSHub issue.
Dissapearing Address Bar
I am using WM 6.1 (one of Duttys hybrid ROMs) and still ahve the issue with the sddress bar dissapearing before I am finished typing.
I still believe it may be related to Opera not recognizing the pull out (hard) keyboard, or perhaps it is related to the Diamond XT9 keyboard in my ROM....
Any info. appreciated!

Michael

I have tried this version, I am not so happy with it. I find it rather slow and the zooming in zooming out feels tedious. I may be spoiled because I am also using an iPod Touch with the Safari Mobile browser but are there any previous builds of the Opera Mobile 9.5 browser that have faster performance than this?
I am working on a Samsung i780 so I have a lot of power behind the phone, I just don't find this version jaw-dropping.
Okay this looks great. Just tested it on the Diamond and it's fast, seems stable and fixes the "black whole problem" at least on the sites I had problems with.
One drawback: it doesn't seem to support the g-sensor out of the box. however we might be able to work around that with gsen... didn't try that though.
I guess this is a real candidate for some cooked ROMs...
Edit: This thing is REALLY fast. We might probably want to work on how to replace the original opera on a diamond with this version?
Cheers,
Alex
Will installing this overwrite the default Opera diamond browser?
You can install it on the internal storage - so your pre-installed opera should be left untouched. As for the default browser setting - I didn't check that. But you should be able to switch back if desired as well.
Okay from some testing I can report the following issues:
Does not use old Opera's bookmarks, so when overwriting old opera there's no way to sync bookmarks with Manila (some tiny application might be written to do the job however I guess)
Occasionly prevents device standby (even when manually pressing the standby button) - getting out of opera helps
At least in my setup it keeps starting itself when exited - that might however be a result of me playing around to replace original opera with new one
The most noticable bug from opera's official known-issues list is the non-working re-flow of text paragraphs. instead the paragraphs are _always_ sized to fit the zoomed-in screen
Auto-rotation is not implemented out of the box - I didn't test, yet if GSen would do the trick (for some of us disabled auto-rotation might actually be a plus ;-)
Some of these issues obviously have to be fixed for a final - but I assume they will do so until the final release.
On the bright side we have:
Definitely faster
Looks like it has lower memory consumption (not measured though) - this actually makes the auto-restart thing I experience acceptable for me - I simply keep it running in the background at the moment
The black-hole problem seems to be fixed
Once the issues have been worked out this will be a huge step forward in mobile browsing on the diamond - even compared to the current version of opera mobile!
If anyone else is testing this software I'd be happy to hear some feedback and maybe solutions found to the issues I mentioned.
Cheers,
Alex
Does it also support Flash based websites? (containing flash video's?)
i also tried to install it both on the device & internal storage, but it just won't start the new version... even when i start the program from the program list it will start the old version...
i guess the beta version wanted to prevent the resizing of the paragraph while zooming in some text pages, but i do like it coz the zooming in & out is now more precise...
anyone have any idea how to replace the old opera with this new beta...
also another problem encountered is the pop up of the input keyboard... it will automatically switch to the default windows style even if i set it to full qwerty keyboard...
i hope htc will implement it soon or opera could release the final version soon, this browser is the best so far~
Here is the Thread containing the latest Opera build, was released yesterday I think. Anyway, its miles better than this beta, go check it out!

not impressed, seems much slower than what im currently using
find it in the file manager to launch it.
I find it has a keyboard issue... it keeps reverting back to small qwerty.
I uninstalled it and now my original opera takes longer to load up. (now those progress blocks have appeared?)

Have to agree, build 1938 is *way* better than this one, it's a lot faster and far more stable. At least on a Samsung i780 which is what I used to test it.
I also tried it on an iMate Jasjar but the build had problems working with the qwerty keyboard -- when you try to type it will take in one character then close the SIP, so you can no longer enter any letters. Horrible bug, did not have this problem with any other build I tried so far. But it works fine, only problem is I have to use the SIP, and the point of getting a Universal is to have the QWERTY!

Which Opera version?

There are so many Opera versions out there...
The one I have been using 15316. Before that I was using some other version, I can't remember which.
Anyway, I am tired of this flipping the screen upside down everytime I exit it (in landscape).

I was using Opera 9.5 beta 2, and hated the whole widget mess that they created, so I rolled back to beta 1. So far no complaints.

Where can I get it? What is the build number?
Just a tip, build 15233 ripped from the Omnia worked very well in the short time I used it. There was no screen flipping problem, and it was very stable. It also supported zooming by sliding your finger on the side of the screen. I think the real reason I stopped using it was there was some kind of text reflow issue when you zoomed it though. It has no widgets, although it installs a shortcut to the non-existent widgets, so you need to delete it.
However, I currently use NFSFan's build 15316, which I like due to its 10 tab support and speed. However, as a trade off, it suffers from the screen flipping problem if you minimize it or touch the taskbar while using it. And I definitely agree with TelloMan about the widgets, they just waste space and annoy me. Try to keep looking around XDA, especially in Development and Hacking (where I found many opera builds).
Dave
Yeah, NSFan's 15316 is the one I'm using now. The screen flipping is driving me crazy.
It's hard to believe there isn't one decent browser for Windows Mobile. Anyone know what's going on with that Firefox Mobile?
you're referring to "Minimo" by Mozilla. I haven't seen or heard much lately from them. There's some opera builds are fairly close to perfection depending on what irritates you the least amount. Too bad none of them has flash working perfectly yet. If I had to choose 2 browsers for WM, it would be netfront and opera mobile
well... call me heretic, but imho for casual browsing and forums the best one is opera mini and if I need to use my bank's web page or anything more complicated iexplorer is reliable enough. additionally, I have skyfire installed on my memcard just to make sure that I can browse whatever I want.
the answer? opera mini and skyfire in my opinion. I am tired of o.mobile bugs and new builds every few days/weeks.
Actually, I think he is referring to Fennec, not minimo. Minimo was horrible and requires very high specs, while Fennec, which is still in alpha/early beta, is very unstable yet very promising. It will be quite a while before it will be really usable. I would just stick to opera mobile for now. Skyfire works well, but isn't 100% stable. Opera mini is fast, but not full featured.
As I said, Fennec is very promising, but it is extremely unstable and VGA only for now.

I agree about Mini i use it for pretty much everything then for sensitive info use Mobile.
"I like fast pages and come from SP stock so used to the Mini approach"
I used to get annoyed by the text flipping, but Manila2D always corrects the screen back to portrait when you hit the homescreen. I've been using that as my bandaid.

Like Dave was, I just got build 15233 running per the instructions at
http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/blog/9/tutorial-everything-you-need-know-about-flash-lite-3-and-playing-back-flash-web-videos
and it is by far the best browser experience I've had on my Tilt yet. Flash even worked on http://www.spezzo.com.
It isn't very fast, but compared to IE and the first Minimo, this actually WORKS. I can switch from mobile versions to desktop versions, zoom and scroll, and it uses my IE favorites.

Opera Mini Questions

I really like the new Opera Mini, its a Java Application so I am not real familiar with how it works. I was wondering:
1. Can I set it up as my default browser?
2. When I flip the screen to landscape, the bottom menu buttons from WM show up and they won't go away until I shut the program down...It also is very buggy. Is there a good version available for the Raphael?
Wish it had Flash, but so far Skyfire is the only option right? Skyfire has such poor resolution...

Opera 10 2beta

Was curious if anyone had tried this 10 2beta build of Opera Mobile?
I just installed it on my Fuze and dig it so far. Especially the text fields. It makes it much easier to post w/o the aggrivating scrolling and lack of ability to scroll w/o having to back off zoom. Still running through options at moment. All new look and setup.
do you have a .cab? I'd like to try
how do you edit the tabs tho?

Cab.
I dumbed up on it trying to go to opera;config. Its on opera website I think it was m.opera.com for the mobile dl. of the cab.
Says its for Nokias and smartphones, but still works great for me. I havent tried youtube, but from what I read its supposed to play. I was on my phone and havent had time to sit @ desktop or I would have upped the file. i tried from fuze, with the 10 2beta and thought it was gonna actually let me upload it here, then it said unsuccessful upload.
I have been using Opera 10 b2 for a while and like it, alot!
Much better than 9 IMO.
One thing I found, Opera 10 can be "Squeezed" (compressed .exe) and it makes a WORLD of difference in boot time.
could opera 10-2 beta could do copy and paste text & pict just like usual opera for laptop?
I too like Opera 10 a lot better than 9.x. However I like the last 10 build better, this one seems to have issues with some XML stuff I use/do. I will jump back to an older version to test, to make sure that is in fact the issue... but yeah - 10 kicks ass, way better.
just tested 10 beta 2u on youtube. it opens streaming media player and quality is bad. 10 2u has auto screan rotate.
Been using opera 10 beta on symbian before and now on wm, works as good here Alot better than 9.x, seems faster to me atleast and GUI is alot better on 10b2.
Opera 10 beta 2
Is my favorite of all browsers. If you install on your storage card all your favorites are saved after reflashing.
