How to disconnect 3G/GPRS - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Touch Cruise I could disconnect 3G through hitting the button in the taskbar and clicking the disconnect button in the cloud. This aint working on the D2. How do I disconnect the 3G connection conveniently?

I'm not sure but as my view point.
On 'Communication' of 'Setting'
The bottom is 'Data Connection'. I think there is 3G connection so If it is on. Try to turn off.

Thanks, that works!

or you can try downloading a cab somewhere in this forum called "nodata" works like a charm.

Is there an option anywhere to limit the phone to only a 3G network and not roam to the slower settings. My previous phone was a Viewty and there was an option on there to lock it to the 3G.

Thanks. I know Nodata, and use it when I want to prevent roaming. My question was to - temporarily - disconnect. For instance, when I am at home and want to watch Youtube movies, I want to be sure it goes over my WLAN network and not over 3G. When I disconnect 3G and don't see it reconnecting I know for sure traffic goes over wifi.
livej's already provided a good alternative.

I also use nodata even when its temporarily. I just disable GPRS/3G, etc. So forcing it to run on wifi. Then when im done, i enable my data services again.

Hold down the bottom right hardware key (the red hangup button). A menu should appear (if not change you Quick Key under Setup > Personal > Buttons > Quick Key to turn all options on). The middle option is to disable the data connection.
You can also set the Quick Key to disable the data connection by default.

To turn off 3G (remember to turn it back on when you need fast data)
From Touch Flo Home Screen
Settings Tab -> All Settings -> Personal Tab -> Phone -> Band Tab -> Select Your Network Type -> GSM

Or:
Left hardware key > Menu > Options > Band Tab > Select Your Network Type > GSM
Does anybody know faster way to toggle between these options?
edit:

Hi gregeast,
The option "Screen off during call" is location on OS Tweak under the Phone section. Uncheck that checkbox to keep the screen on during phone calls.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm running version 2.25 Build 2. I was running in landscape display and couldn't see the --More-- button on the second OS Tweek screen to get me to Phone. In portrait it's there, just FYI.
Oh, and it worked

How to make and/or recieve calls whilst using internet sharing

I am having problems using the internet whilst making or recieving calls, does anyone know how to rectify this or could this be a pc fault as i am running vista? Or could it possibly the rom (2.03.l3v5y WWE)
Mine does this aswell mate. Always has, regardless of what ROM im using or what pc im on.
Dont know how to do both but i really would like to know.
Also, to prove its not the pc, whilst i was on the phone (loudspeaker) i tried to use google maps to find a shop, and it reported that there was no data connection - so it seems the phone cuts the data off whilst on a voice call.
I hope someone knows/can find a solution to this....
Try This......
On the handset, tap Start and select Settings.
Tap the Connections tab.
Tap the Connections icon.
Tap the Advanced tab.
Tap Select Networks.
Under the first drop down box, tap New…
In the Enter a name for these settings: field, enter Orange WAP
Tap the Modem tab.
Tap New…
In the Enter a name for the connection: field, enter Orange WAP
Tap the Select a modem drop-down list and select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G).
Tap Next.
In the Access point name: field, enter orangewap
Tap Next.
If required, in the User name: field enter Orange
If required, in the Password: field enter Multimedia
Tap Finish.
Tap the Proxy Settings tab.
Select the This network connects to the Internet option.
Select the This network uses a proxy sever to connect to the Internet option.
Tap Advanced… Tap on HTTP.
In the Proxy server field, enter 192.168.71.35
In the Port field, enter 8080
Tap ok five times
This changes your setting from GPRS to WAP.
It mite work cause i think its got sumthing to do with how your actually connecting to recieve data & voice calls & if your in the right area where you can actually recieve what you need to do what you want.
I use the internet on my HD and make n recieve calls all the time area dependent....
The settings above are for Orange users only....
thedaddyy, I tried your suggestion and it appears to work
The speed is massivly reduced whilst on the phone but it remains connected and able to browse.
I used speedtest.net to check the speeds of the connections and the results are below. I had HSDPA connection with only 1 bar.

Tasker Profile - In Car Use

I recently picked up Tasker, and so am trying to figure my way around how to use it for my in-car install. However, I can't seem to figure out, what is probably the most important piece, getting the screen to switch off / airplane mode to switch on when I remove power. I have installed Secure Settings plug in, but everything I have tried so far to get the screen to switch off has failed. I am sure I am missing something simple here.
Also, is there a way to have Tasker kill all open apps, instead of having to individually list apps?
Thanks.
Edit: Should have put this in the apps section.
Edit Again: Figured out the screen switching off, System Lock did the trick. For some reason it is not killing open apps though when the power is removed.
New profile>name it whatever>State Context>Hardware>Usb Plugged>Invert
New task>name it whatever>hit the "+" button>app>kill app>specifiy app (you'll have to do this for every single app).
alternatively, you could do:
new task>name it whatever>hit the "+" button>script>run shell> type a command that kills all apps, and check "use root". i dont know what command can be used to kill all apps though, lol, so...

Exit task. And what you want is Display->Lock to switch off the screen. As for Airplane mode, I believe that does require Secure Settings to toggle, but that should be pretty easy. Assuming you're rooted and the Secure Settings Helper is installed (see its app) directly.

This is dumb. That's all I'm going to say about this subject.
Thanks for the replies, I am rooted and do have Secure Settings installed, I will have to look into Airplane mode some more as I don't see it listed under the Secure Settings addon.
Is there a good guide anywhere for Tasker? I tried via their site, but most of the links were dead. When I connect power to the Nexus, Bluetooth comes on, but I also want it to use my phone for internet access (Settings -> Bluetooth - Paired Devices - Use for internet access). It seems like everytime Bluetooth goes off, that box becomes unchecked, and currently I hvae to manually go in and check it again. I am guessing I need a script to do that, but I have no clue how to write a script to do so, and can't find much by the way of help / tutorials (I admit though, I am at work, and have not spent a huge amount of time searching).

Tasker google groups is the place to go.
Make 2 profiles, 1 for power on 1 for power off. Open secure setting, the option is there to install helper. Then when you set new task select plugins, then secure setting that will appear now that helper is installed.Airplane mode is there. As for screen on and off, set screen off 23 hours 59 mins under power on profile , set screen off 7secs(minimum) under power off.
The other 2 profiles are timed according to daylight so the brightness decreases at night increases in the day.I wouldnt use the kill app function it doesnt play nicely and causes some crashing issues at shutdown thats why mine are disabled.

Ok found it! this made my head scratch as well..
Huawei seems to have set it up differently. If you are using Gesture navigation you would not see it. Follow the below steps to first see it and enable it before switching back to Gesture navigation.
1. Go to Settings > System > System Navigation > select Three-key Navigation
2. You will now see the little guy in the corner, click on him and you will then see the floating icon (both in attached screenshot)
3. You can now move around the floating icon and even change back to Gesture Navigation.
Do hit the Thanks button if this helped..

Thanks! I never would have found it if you had not pointed it out!
1 more issue I noticed though was that the feature reads everything starting from the top of my screen and ignores what I select.. In fact, when I have something selected, it reads the context menu to me 'Select all, copy, etc.' then proceeds to read from the top of my screen. Do you see the same behavior?

If only it was possible to run Select to Speak without having to leave Gesture Navigation first; having finally to used to gestures, I prefer them to Three Key etc.
Oh well ... thanks again MrDpak
