Returning To Stock ROM/SPL withough USB?!?!? - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi guys, got a problem here. Need to return my HTC Touch HD for warrant purposes, basically the USB connection doesnt work - it charges but nothing else, 3 PC's and 3 leads wont even acknowledge that its connected to a pc (yet it charges?!?).
To return it, i need to restore standard ROM and SPL but obviously because of the problem i cant connect it to a pc to flash!!
Any ideas appreciated!!

If you got HSPL you can copy the blacimg.nbh on sd card and let the bootloader flash.
Im not sure but i think it should be possible with non hspl if you flash a stock rom because spl/ipl are included to shipped roms.

As already said, you can flash the stock rom from your SD card, by copying the .nbh file into the root directory of your SD card and renaming it BLAC_IMG.nbh. Power device off, press and hold the volume down key, and press the power button to get into bootloader. The image file will be shown on the screen - just follow the instructions.
However, this will not flash the SPL as HSPL is protected from being overwritten. Not sure how you can get around this one without being able to use USB.

According to the HSPL thread, the HSPL is protected to be overwritten, so flashing SPL without the restoration pack in HSPL thread should not work.
I recommend you back up all your data and do a Hard Reset, then try to sync with your PC.
If it still not work, eject your SD card and try power on your phone while holding VolDown, this will enter the bootloader (tri-color screen). Connect the USB cradle, when the bottom of the screen shows "USB" instead of "Serial", launch the Stock-SPL restoration pack from the HSPL thread and follow the instructions.

Tried this but it still showed 'Serial' after i connected the USB lead!
Using the SD card method im gonna be able to get a stock ROM back on there so thats a start!
I've got HSPL not USPL
Anyone know how strict HTC UK are at checking warranty returns?

More issues!!! I cant even use the SD Card method, i formatted my card and copied BLACIMG/BLAC_IMG (2 guides named the file differently) to the root of the card, when i go to boot loader it says image not found. WTF???

The file must be named BLACIMG.nbh. Furthermore it seems that some cards don't work, so maybe you have bad luck .
But, as already said, this doesn't help you at all, as you need to restore the SPL, too, which isn't possible without an USB connection.

what was the outcome re your phone?

How I Managed To Revert Back To Original SPL Using MiniSD card

Just got a used unit for my wife with warranty for 7 days.
On the same day flashed Des-Prof HardSPL and a cooked ROM.
Later the next day the USB port can't connect to PC anymore, maybe due to some broken pins inside. So it is quite difficult to flash Original ROM from PC , especially SPL which must go through SSPL and PC USB Flashing.
This is what I did and successful;
1. Extract OEM ROM content using nbh extract tool.
2. Pack using hrt Rom Tool the SPL.nb and Both Splash.nb and build the .nbh file using htcrt ROM Tool. Name this nbh file to TRINIMG.nbh and copy to Mini SD Card which had been formatted with FAT32 earlier.
3. Copy SSPL to any location on device main.
4. Insert the Mini SD Card .
5. Now, run SSPL on the device, it will start flashing like normal ROM Flashing. It takes few seconds to complete and finally it just stuck at the infamous 3-colour screen. No matter what I did it just stay there ( phone already bricked !). But the bootloader shows original SPL, no more hard SPL! So, reverting back to Original SPL already success and happily done.
4. At this bootloader tri-colour screen,I just flash original RUU_Signed.nbh which its name changed to TRINIMG.nbh using Mini SD Card.
So happily done and will return back tomorrow to the seller for warranty purpose.
How to flash stock ROM
I broke USB on my device too.
How do you flash ROM from tri-color screen?
Do you push any buttons?
yes ,just insert the card with TRINIMG.nbh.
Hi,
I have one of the USB pins broken so I need to use this method to bring it back to the original state.
I have two doubts that it could be quite helpfull in anyone confirms them:
1) Can I flash directly from a cooked 6.1 WM to the old 5.o Vodafone one or do I need to pash to a faman 3.3?
2) in the wiki says that I need to use a miniSD but I have a micro SD with adaptar. Is there any way I can do it with a microSD?
Thanks a lot,
I use microsd with adapter too for my case, seems no problem.
Flash the stock ROM first then flash Stock SPL which was packed together with splash in.nbh.

Thanks for the info.
Hi edywanwan,
thanks for advise
Now my Trinity is clear to be send back to the vendor. I hope never to see it again.
I tried it several times without success, but here is what I've done:
1. Extract SPL.NB from original ROM
2. rebuild SPL.NBH. Both, 1. and 2., done with NBHUtil
3. Copy new SPL.NBH and SSPL-TRIN.exe to root of SD-card (no other .nbh file)
4. Try starting device with Windows (O.K. this is the hardest part )
5. Start Fileexplorer, navigate to SD-card and start SSPL-TRIN
The device will fall to Bootscreen (3 colors), flash new SPL and that's it. Connect it to USB (without restart) and reflash the wanted ROM. Voila, original configuration

Cannot get serial to usb in bootloader

For some odd reason I can no longer get the the "serial" status to change to "usb". It charges but does not connect to activesync. I flashed many many times so I am not a noob at this but I might be making a noob mistake.
What I am using: SPL 1.54 (I use USPL 2.5). I am currently using Miri's v23 manilla 2.5. I am using the same pc (xp) and cables to flash.
What I've tried:
- used 3 different pc's and the original pc
- 4 different usb cables
- ticking/unticking the "enable faster data syncing" box in settings>connections>usb to pc
-ticking/unticking "allow usb connections" in activesync
-if I leave the cable in AND THEN put the phone in bootloader mode, the status is blank. When I remove the cable, it returns to "serial"
When the phone is on, it just doesn't seem to react (vista and xp)to the cable being plugged in. The led just shows that it's charging.
I pulled an all-nighter and I'm stumped.
Maybe you need to update the USB drivers. Same thing happened to me but it worked after updating the USB drivers as per this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524619
I forgot the most important part-
Since the pc does not recognize that there's something plugged in, I cannot select the "HTC USB Sync" under device manager and proceed with updating the drivers. I don't think I need to but at this point I'm trying everything.
Unless there's another way of updating drivers without the phone showing up on the device manager...
Updated the usb drivers by plugging in an old htc device. The pc was able to recognize the other htc device and was able to switch from serial to usb.
But after the update, there was no improvement for the blackstone status.
Anyone? The phone still doesn't recognize the usb cable whether the phone is on or in bootloader, it just charges.
Any help is appreciated!

Seems something wrong with your device. Try to hard reset and do it again?
Or if you still cant connect to usb. there is another way to upgrade without connecting to pc. After upgrade to new ROM, try it again whether it can connect to pc or not? Here is some tips for you.
Connect your SD card to PC through microSD card. Copy all files from your SDcard to new folder in your PC. Then, right click on the microSDcard disk-->full Format by FAT32 (this step is very important).
After formatting SDcard, copy back all files to SDcard . Rename .nbh to BLACIMG.nbh (for Blacktone) and copy it to SDcard.
Insert your SDcard back to Touch HD. Turn off your device by Power button.
Go to Boot loader mode. Push and hold Vol. Down + press Power button.
After that your device with have a white screen with text " Press to power button for continue upgrade" press power button and it will start upgrade Rom.
You can check this video for more practical actions on youtube.(this video for HTC diamond2 but it's almost the same with Blacktone just different in rename step)
Hope it helps and cheer
Thanks for the tips =)
I've did a hard reset twice and still no luck.
I've tried to flash through SD but since I use USPL, it just hangs when I try.
If I have SPL 1.54.0000, is there something that can be flash through the SD without USPL?

I have not tried this. I am on HSPL 1.56olinex but you can try my suggestion cause I think it's the only one you can choose now. I never ever use USPL. I think you can do it step by step and carefully.

Big Problem with Diamond

Hi,
i've a big problem with my diamond
it starts normally, but after htc splash screen, it tries to load windows but after 1-2 seconds it restart.
i was using cooked rom gen.Y D2 rev.Y with radio 1.09.25.23
G 52.51.25.26H
i've tried with original rom 2.03 but the problem still remains.
What can i do to resolve this problem?
Where can i find original radio and G (what does it stand for?) to put inside my htc with original rom for probably warranty assistence (i hope)
i've also olinex1.40 spl, how can i remove it?
Thank you in advance
Gianluca
SOunds like a bad flash to me. Try using MTTY to reflash. Should work fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540290
how can i run this procedure:
Connect Device to PC via Active Sync, Once Connected Uncheck USB Connections,DISCONNECT DEVICE then Reboot Computer
if the device can't start completely?
Flash from your System not the Internal Storage. Read the 4th post.
i can't install drivers on my win7 x64 because i can't follow the first post "how to install drivers" so with the mtty.exe it doesn't find the usb driver
In that case see if you can get into bootloader.
(Reset + Hold Vol Down), this will show the Red, Blue, Green screen showing "Serial"
Then plug your usb cable in and you should get it showing "USB".
You then need to Hard SPL and reflash.
yes i've succesfully installed drive on win7 x64
i've run mtty.exe, followed the instructions, all ok.
then i've disconnected the diamond from usb and made an hard reset (it says press vol.up to restore manufacturer default, vol. down to restore and format movinanand, i press vol. up, and after vol.up again: is it the hard reset or is it another menu?)
but after restart the htc has same problem..it continues to restart by itself
i've decided to return htc to stock software and firmware in order to send him in warranty to delaer.
so, i've installed last official rom htc 2.03, it includes the radio.
Now after that, because system doesn't want to start completely, also after mtty.exe format ecc., the last thing i've to do is install official spl right?
i've found the guide:
STEP BY STEP HOW TO RETURN TO STOCK SPL - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!
0. be sure to first restore stock OS, and stock radio. stock SPL is always to be done last!!
1. download the stock spl package from this post (pick one of the attachments) in this thread.
2. also download the RUU-SSPL-withoutNBH.zip from the attachments in this post.
3. pick the SPL you want to reflash to (ONLY FOR WARRANTY REASONS), it's a .NBH file, put the NBH in the extracted RUU-SSPL-withoutNBH package.
4. run the RUU (or if needed, run SSPL-Manual.exe manually, then run RUU when it goes to black screen), it goes to 100%, reboots, done.
+5. to verify, volume down + reset, see version number on tricolour screen.
that's it.
what official spl have i to install? 1.23 1.34 1.37?
i've tried with all the 3 spl but nothing changed i think, because when i open the bootloader it still saying 1.40olinex

Usb Problem

hi guys/gals
I'm trying to flash a rom onto my phone but as it gets to the stage where the multi colour screen pops up windows tell me that its an unrecognised device
'the device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it'
where the phone usually displays 'usb' is just blank, it changes to serial when the cables disconnected but when reconnected it remains as serial.
I've flashed my phone before with out any issues and I've tried to flash it via the sd card but I'm not 100% sure that I'm doing it correctly, I've renamed the file to Blacimg.nbh booted the phone into the colour screen thing and thats as far as it goes, I think because it doesn't display 'usb' I can't get any further.
I've tried to do it on several machines and get the same problem
are there any other ways I can flash my phone that dont require the cable as I'm fairly sure that theres a problem with the phone.
more info:
rom I have at the moment: Kwbr Topix 2.6.1
rom I am trying to install: Xannytech ROM Grid LEO 1.5
I have tried to update the drivers - it says the file doesn't have any information about my device.
active sync works, I can transfer files and the phone is recognised in device manager just not while in the colour screen mode
just to clarify, I'm looking for a way to install a rom that doesn't require the 'usb' screen or a solution to the problem of the missing usb screen would be nice too.
I have searched but I couldn't find anything relevant.
thanks in advance.

If you had searched you would have realised that most chef's (including kwbr) provide instructions on how to flash roms using 2 different methods. USB or SD Card.
I just taken about 20 seconds to locate one of Kwbr's rom threads and on his 2nd post he actually states how to flash using SD Card method.
i.e.
Q: I am having problems flashing the rom with CustomRUU.exe. Can I flash in another way?
You can try the official RUU for Blackstone to flash. Also flashing from SD card is an option. To flash from SD just rename ruu_signed.nbh to BLACIMG.nbh, copy it to the root of your SD card, and flash the rom from the tri-color screen by pressing the power button.

or try flash using SD card
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
cheers

Pheeew thats a relief panic mode off now
Thanks rosebud and indra9110 for your fast replies, I got it working rosebud's way.
I downloaded the rom again and it works perfect now,
I've also got iskoot working (which was NOT working on the vodaphone 6.1 rom)
Thanks again guys
Glad to hear your phone has come back to life
