Is their an application dock? - G1 Apps and Games

I'm looking for an application dock like in open home..does anyone know if their is one available without open home?
thanks in advance....

Haven't seen one, but it would be sweet. Just a widget with last 6 apps used would be cool. Or drag and drop, like a tray.

you mean like when you hold the home key down?

It's not quite what the OP is looking for, but try "Bar Control" which allows you to put launcher icons for your favorite apps in the status bar.

Exactly but a widget.

Seems silly imo, but thats my opinion...unless you mean something like the iPhone dock? dxtop has a second tab that keeps track of recently used apps. That's the closest thing I've seen yet. Since 1.5 is officially on its way to the masses I think you'll see a ton of widgets hit the market soon.

its in one of these "HOME" apps somewhere..
yea i cant wait until more widgets come out.. i had to not use Open Home anymore just to see the stock widgets.. money comes, money goes.. LIFE!

Id be willing to bet money that once stock 1.5 gets pushed open home will open their app up to the new widgets.

They have a working beta and it works with all widgets. When you install it though it wipes your screens clean and you have to redo everything. Also folder icons go back to default at random But its a small price to pay for the widgets i think
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=510831

SweeterHome has app trays that can be installed. You pick the apps/shortcuts, etc you want in the tray and can customize almost EVERYTHING!
Also, has what they call "springboards" which is an icon/shortcut that will open up an app tray (or) that can contain anything you want.
I've been using it for quite some time. It is in development - but, most of the major bugs have been worked out.

Anyone else wishing they would have modified the market to allow for Apps + Games + Widgets in the menu? It's going to be a pain in the butt finding new widgets with all the apps.

I love dxTop implematation of the app dock.. just swipe the drawer pull tabs to the left or to the right and there ya go. BRILLIANT!

Thanks doooshty,
You beat me here
I plan on releasing dxTop : The Android Home Alternative this weekend for $3.99 and I'm hoping to get support from developers to write widgets for it. I posted a how-to and a sample desktop widget that graphs memory usage. These is also a demo version available on the site to try it out and use to develop widgets.
Also, I want to make sure I can sell it. I've read the Apache 2.0 license and it looks like all I need to do is provide a link to the license. Is this correct?
If you have any comments, please let me know what your think!
Cheers,
John

I've been running the demo now for a couple of hours and I'm convinced this the best app yet for the G1, paid or free. MasterBaron, you sir are a very talented developer and I'll be eagerly awaiting the paid version in the market this weekend. I will also post my 5 star review of dxTop on as many Android forums as I can find. Keep doing what your doing. and thank you so much for extending and greatly improving Android. You have my $4, and I hope you get rich from this app.
I installed it but the "launch" link after installed was greyed out and i couldnt find it in the app list but i could uninstall it from the manage applications settings... what am i doing wrong?

Yes, press the home button and it will ask which interface you want to use. DO NOT click "Use by default for this action" until I come up with a recovery mode in case dxTop crashes.

cool got it, this is awesome! but hows the battery with it? any change that you noticed? and how will we add stuff to the second tab?
I cant wait for full version! will definitely pay!
is it me or does it overwite the clock that u have on the theme?
Did anyone elses wallpaper cropping get messed up? I wasn't able to choose the whole image to crop. I tried with a few standard size wallpapers & 800x600 wallpapers but it never let me choose the whole image.
I tryed again without selecting default and I still had to wipe as I couldn't get off the force close box. After a reboot it it started force closeing again and left the phone unusable.

Yeah it did on mine as well. Great first step much love for the app. I liked it but will wait to see how it comes along before buying. Its simply too young right now but with all the potential it shows will definately buy in the future as it progresses. Great work!
maybe it should be in beta for a bit longer until all the bugs are worked out- beta testers galore..... so idiots on the market don't start voting it down.....
To be honest the only thing that I really would like to have are the widgets and they will be available on the standard Android with 1.5.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best app in the market, very very good, i love you, please im from south america and i have no access to paid apps, put a webpage to buy the app, thanks!!

Should be no change to battery life.
his tab is your recent/running apps tab, they appear automatically when you run apps.

You have to be quick, press the force close, then the home key as fast as you can. I'll work on a recovery option.
I understand you wanting to earn some money from this app, and I would glady pay for it, except that I'm in the UK and we still do not see paid apps.
Did you think if how you could deliver the app to non-US residents?
Wow, this looks extremely promising, very nice indeed!
Please please please make this paid app available outside of the market, somehow, because a lot of us are in countries where paid app support is nowhere to be seen. I figure the UK etc will get in on the paid app action soon enough, but for the rest of us, in countries where the G1 isn't even considered by the operators yet, I fear the wait will be long. Too long.

[Q] How to Rename Application for Root Users

I've searched this and other forums and still can't ffigure out how to change an applications name for a Rooted G1. I've been able to change an application's icon by switiching the .png in the drawtable folder, but where the heck is the apps name info stored?
Thanks for your help in advance.

That is probably going to require either editing the appropriate xml files, or rebuilding the ROM from source to be able to get access to other appropriate files. It may be more trouble than its worth. There may be an app for it, but I am not sure. Maybe someone else can chime in if they know of another way?

Well its been a long minute since I've used any home replacement but you can still use bettercut on with using open home or ahome. The only thing I'm wondering is when you change the name of the app does it only change on the home screen or in the app drawer to. I'm to lazy to do it myself.
You don't need a home replacement to use Bettercut.

bettercut is only for app shortcuts on your home screen, it won't change the name in the app drawer.
BTW does it work without a home replacement app?

Thanks for everyone's help in trying to solve this one. As previous post's have noted; Bettercut will only change the name on the Home screen or App drawer, not in the application list.
How about this...if it's too much trouble to rename, is it easy to hide an application from appearing at all?
Thanks to everyone!!

No its actually quite easy to keep it from appearing.....uninstall it.
Oh come on you gotta admit, you were asking for that one LOL
I'm assuming you don't want it appearing in your app drawer? Is that the issue? Are you talking about applications that come on the ROM that you don't want anymore. Please provide not only the end result of what you are looking for, but also a little background and maybe that will help with an answer.
Yes, I did set myself up for that one.
It's a 3rd party app that runs at startup. I would like to hide the app from appearing in the Manage Application menu. Thanks again!!
You can use the modified launcher to hide installed apps from the app drawer but I dont think you can hide from the manage applications section.
Thanks for the input Rodney!
can u also rename apps with the modified launcher?

[Q] custom shortcut app to app/settings?

So, the other day I was working. Great story, huh.. Anyways, I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and I noticed my Clockr date widget had magically turned on it's background (I have it set to transparent), So I went to fix it, but when I clicked it, Spare parts came up?!? I thought maybe I must have just clicked something else, But the next 8 times I clicked it, the same results came up.
So, I'm wondering if there is some kind of custom shortcut to have a widget linked to a different app. Apparently, my pocket is smarter than me and knows how to do this. If there is such a thing, I would like to know about it here is a screenie so you can see that I didn't just click spare parts.
Im kinda confused but if you're asking how to make custom settings shortcut, just hold down finger somewhere empty on the screen and you can set it up.

Yeah, not anything close to what I said. I'm also pretty sure if I didn't know how to create a custom SHORTCUT like you said, I should not have rooted my phone.. Anyways I'm guessing my phone just glitched and what I'm trying to find out doesn't exist yet, due to the large number of responses I got
Beautiful Widgets has options to open diff apps when touching diff areas of the clock/weather widget. Its in the settings somewhere to change it.

Car Home apk

If your like me, and like old school droid programs but cant get them to install on new age devices here is one. This is the Car Home apk for anyone that would like to use it. Install as you would any apk.
If you run into any problems side load it from something like dropbox or push via ADB. Once you install both the launcher and the car home apk then boot into clockwork recovery and fix permissions, reboot and you should be good, but you should only do this if you have some force closes or anything like that.
If you use and like hit the thanks button!
Good stuff can't wait to see more work here

[Q] Couple of Questions

I've used the S5 and figured out how to disable the magazine app, well, the S6 has a similar feature that uses Flipboard. I haven't been able to figure out how to disable.
Also, I have NO IDEA how to create a folder in the App Drawer.

Dunno about about the folders but you can hide (but maybe not disable) the Flipboard screen by unchecking its box in the "rearrange home screens" mode.

While the wrap around effect is long gone in TouchWiz, it is still implemented on most third party launchers. And call me crazy, but someone with so much experience should know how to simply add new pages and reassign the home page.

I wasn't asking how to rearrange home screens. The feature is alive and well in the 4. Don't see any benefit to removing it, but you're not really here for help or a discussion. Just to be argumentative and condescending.
Just pointing out something...the iPhone home screen doesn't wrap either, so it would do no good for them to get one for that feature. ...
