How to change folder icons - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

So, here's a short tutorial on how to create your own dll library and change folder icons.
what you need:
IcoFX get it here : http://icofx.ro/
ResHacker link here : http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip
and of cource ICONS get some here: http://www.iconarchive.com/
How it works...
Any customized folder has a shortcut inside pointing out the icon it should use
usually it's a icon.lnk file inside the folder.
and icons are usually stored in a DLL library...
So, what we have to do
1. Get some images and transform them into icon files ( .ico )
2. Create our DLL library
3. make the icon.lnk files that point to our specific icon
let's start.
After installing all the above programs and selecting some icons go and launch IcoFX
now go to Tools / Batch Convert
A new window appears
Add your icons / images,
select your icon sizes
select an output folder
hit ok
After it finishes hit ok.
Now go to Tools - Resource Editor
This should pop up
Now add your created icons
After that, hit save
Save your library with a .dll extension like in the above image.
Bam, you just created your own DLL library
Close the program
now to create the icon.lnk file
create a new text document
inside the shortcut looks like this:
1# is a parameter
myiconlib.dll is your icon library
-33 is the resource number where the icon is located within the resource dll
ok, how to find the right number for your icon:
Open up your DLL library with ResourceHacker
hit expand tree to see all the resources in the file
search for your icon
The icon number is very visible ( look at the image )
write the number in your text file like shown in the image. remember to put the "-"
so, another example:
1#MyLibrary.dll, -12
now, goto file , Save AS
Just to be sure select All Files in the Save as type bar
give the file the name: icon.lnk and hit save.
and you are almost done.
Connect via your phone via Activesync
Copy your Dll library right in the Windows folder
Copy your icon.lnk in the folder you want to customize.
And you are done.
Hope this comes in handy
Happy customizing

Nevermind, got it fixed Sorry for the trouble.

Great info! Thanks for sharing.

works great with changing a folder... how do you change just a shortcut?

Thank you very much

i dont nderstand this part , help please
now to create the icon.lnk file
create a new text document
inside the shortcut looks like this:

I can't get it working, i did everything, i checked tree times but nothing works.

I GIVEUP

Yes mate, as i told, did everything

lets see
Please attatch ur dll library qnd ur shortcut and ill take a look at it

Everything seems clear except:
"Copy your icon.lnk in the folder you want to customize."
It's confusing how to customize?

Does anyone still come here?
I followed the tutorial step by step and also I had no success! Could someone help me? Or anyone know which dll is the original folder icon? So I could change them directly in this dll.
I have attached the dll and icon.ink that i created, if someone can help me and verify that is correct.
Thanks

hello it looks ok....do you have reset your phone after copy the dll in Windows folder? This is very important because otherwise it dont will show the image....

Yes I did. Did not work. I tried to see in several dll where is the original icon of the folder to change but can not find.

ok you lost me towards the end. in your example you say your icon is -12, but you have -9 highlighted do you not?
also, how can i use this in a kitchen after i create my folders using oemizer?

Great tutorial, thank you very much!
I've created a tutorial about creating shortcuts to Feature Settings and Applications. Plus adding icons to these links. It has many xda-links to specialized shortcut applications!
For me it resulted in icons for MortScript
Your tutorial about creating icons for folders was missing!! Thanx again!
Senax

didn`t worked
thanks for your tutorial.
i tryed it but i had no success
in resco explorer it works in some cases, in others not and in the start menu i had no success.

[b]Download the attached zip file.
Extract it to (wherever you like) then follow the instructions below.[/b]
==============================================================================
Step by Step instructions on how to create your custom splash screen
for the Diamond and Rafael windows mobile.
==============================================================================
Step 1: Create your image
-
Choose, find or create the image you would like to have as your splash screen.
Use your image editor (photoshop is my choice) to adjust your image.
The size of the picture needed for the splash is 640x480 72dpi.
Save it as (24 Bit) (bmp) in folder (2-bmp to rsb to bmp).
goto Step 2.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2: Convert your image from *.bmp to *.rsb
-
Run rsbbmp.exe in folder (2-bmp to rsb to bmp).
Click on [Add Files] and choose your bmp.
Click on [Convert All]
Your image has now been cloned and converted to rsb format.
Move or copy your rsb file to folder (3-rsb to nb).
goto Step 3.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3: Convert your image from *.rsb to *.nb
-
Run Splash-RSB Converter.exe in folder (3-rsb to nb)
Choose VGA (640x480) then press [Convert].
Choose your rsb and save it in folder (4-patchsplashv0.1) click on [Done]
goto Step 4.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 4: Patch your image file.
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember, patchsplash.exe is a command line tool. If you run the program by double
clicking on it a cmd window will open showing you examples of the command line you
will need to type to patch your *.nb that is all.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, open the folder (4-patchsplashv0.1) in Windows file explorer. Copy the
address found at the top of the explorer window.
example: D:\PDA\HTC\splash\4-patchsplashv0.1
On Windows, Start Menu->Run... Click on Run then paste the address you copied
from win explorer then type the rest of the line needed for patching.
My example:
D:\PDA\HTC\splash\4-patchsplashv0.1\patchsplash R YOURFILENAME.nb YOURFILENAME_P.nb
\patchsplash R YOURFILENAME.nb YOURFILENAME_P.nb -> Rafael
\patchsplash D YOURFILENAME.nb YOURFILENAME_P.nb -> Diamond
Press enter and you're done!
A cmd.exe window will pop up telling you the process is complete.
REMEMBER
The first part of my example "D:\PDA\HTC\splash\4-patchsplashv0.1\"
is what I copied from win explorer.
"I" then move the new "_P.nb" file to the folder (5-nb to nbh) so not to
confuse it with the unpatched file.
goto Step 5.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 5: Create the *.nbh for flashing
-
Run NBHutil.exe in the (5-nb to nbh) folder.
Note: (the NBHUtil.xml file has to be in the same folder as NBHUtil.exe).
On first tab 'Build NBH', in the 'Target Device' list, choose "Diamond" or "Rafael"
located ad the bottom of the list.
On the right side, you have the "NBH Items". Click on the [...] button for "Splash".
An "Open" window pops up. Locate and select the .nb file that you just created.
Press [Build NBH!]
Type a file name and save!
This will create a .nbh file in the location you chosen. ((5-nb to nbh) folder by default)
goto Step 6.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 6: Flash your NEW Splash Screen!!!
-
I personally like to create a new folder for my newly created .nbh files.
In each folder I have my (*.nbh) and a copy of (RaphaelCustomRUU.exe).
In this way I can quickly flash which ever splash screen I want without any extra effort.
Create a folder. Place your new .nbh and a copy of RaphaelCustomRUU.exe in the folder.
Run RaphaelCustomRUU.exe, follow the instructions and you will have a new splash screen!
Enjoy! ;)

How to install icons? i need help

Sorry i ask, i'm new to this, how do i install techGLOW icon set? they all in zip file? how do i get them to install on my x1?
Try unzipping them from your PC and copying the file/s over to your device.
Unfortunately, copying icons to your device won't change your icons. Once you copy them into a folder to your device, you'll need to use a program like Nullstring's JWMD Icon Changerto replace existing icons. Good luck!
hmmm ...both posts are generally correct actually. If the icon set have a name something like "Start_Icon_Bluetooth" then all you have to do is just copy to \windows folder, but if it is named differently then you have to use Icon Changer.
[double post]
@ brokensmile:
thnx for the interest in my icons.
yes, everyone is right. you have to use icon changer by nullstring, like what i said in the first post on my thread.
first you have to unzip the files in your pc.
copy the unzipped files in your sdcard
and then open icon changer.
go here for instructions in using icon changer
Actually, it doesn't has to be under /windows as long as you gives the right path in reg. Here is an example:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Apps\Word Mobile.lnk]
"Icon"="\\Application Data\\icons\\Word.png"
Thnks to all reply
Thank You a lot all of u guys, i will try it out

[TUT] Editing Digital Clocks in Sense

1. Download cfc-gui.exe & (optional) manila editor because its a little easier to find files with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3164600&postcount=1
2. Copy all xxxxxxxx_manila files from your windows folder (on phone) to a folder on your pc
3. Select the folder you dumped your manila files in as the path in cfc-gui
4. Find all the files that relate to the flip clock, not world clock
(if you're using sense 2.5, I wrote down all the files you need to find)
5. Go to Tools>Export to PNG's in cfc-gui
6. Edit the .png's
7. Replace the manila files with your edited .png's with one of the following methods
-replace them by just finding the corresponding manila files in cfc-gui and hit "replace with", where a window will pop up where you can choose your edited .png
I use the following method(faster)
-dump all of your edited clock .png's in a folder
-go to cfc-gui and select that folder as the path
-go to Tools>Import from PNG's, it will ask you to delete files in the folder, hit yes
-Select the same folder you dumped your .png's in again, cfc-gui will import all your .png's as manila files
8. Download QuickCab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400221
9. Run QuickCab.exe and go to Files, find your folder of edited .pngs, and select all of them, I believe each must be selected individually
10. On the right under To Mobile Device, select the Windows folder
11. While all your .png's and Windows folder are both selected, hit Add in the middle
12. Name the .cab, install on phone and reset-enjoy

try extracting the contents of the .cab and opening them with cfc-gui (you may have to add the "_manila" extension for them to open), then just export to .png's to a folder and use my tutorial above to replace your sense 2.5 manila files with the .png's from that cab.
Ok I will give it a try but I have downloaded a few apps to extract/view cabs' contents with no success. Maybe a suggestion on this? What R U using?

I just use 7zip, winrar, etc to extract the contents of the .cabs but I haven't had success with cfc-gui reading them. I haven't tried it, but I think if you rename the files with the _manila extension instead of the .001, .002... extensions it may work.

[MIUI] Lockscreen Help. {Solved}

So I've been asking for help from all the great LS-Themers on XDA with little things like changing the music controls to notifications to resolution, etc.
I've been wanting to do the edits myself, but XML editing seemed a little hard.
Anyway, I tried today and correct me if I'm wrong, but, when you want to edit the XML of a LS, you change the mtz file to zip. Unzip it and you should be presented with the files in that lockscreen, pngs, etc.
I unzipped my current LS, 'iDroid.' I got none of that.
I'm attaching the screenshot of what shows when I unzip it.
In the 'description' XML file, I don't get a huge XML code..I get this;
Code:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<MIUI-Theme><title>iDroid Slide2Unlock</title><author>thefsfempire</author><version>1.0</version><uiVersion>1</uiVersion></MIUI-Theme>
I've opened it with the XML Editor that's on my computer. Microsoft Word and Firefox. They all show that ^
And then there's that 'lockscreen' file. That's just...a file. I can't do anything with it.
There are no folders that show the pngs and stuff.
What am I doing wrong? D: I want to start editing little things on my own, instead of asking everyone all the time.

Okay, so now that I got the editor and I can start changing little things.
In order for this to take effect, I need to save it over the original file as XML.
What about this 'manifest.xml.bak' file? Should I do anything with that, or leave it alone?
Once I've done the edits and save. I need to rezip the advanced folder it's in with 'themes value' that was unzipped with it, then how do I rename it back to just a 'file' type?

You don't need the manifest.xml.bak you can delete that if you want
To zip it back up you need winrar
You need to have everything in the right folders, so you need your advance folder with your manifest in there, and you need the theme_value..
You have to add those 2, to archive by selecting them and right clicking
Then with the winrar pop up you need to make sure 'store' is selected under compression or method, not at a computer/laptop so not 100% which it is and also make sure zip is selected not rar
Finally remove zip extension from the file and zip the whole lock screen back
EDIT: NVM I GOT IT. YAY. Haha. I can now do little things by myself on future lockscreens.
Now, the next thing I need to learn how to do is changing battery charging status and pngs.
you can use the "old format":
that is
your_theme
|__description.xml
|__preview (optional)
|__lockscreen (it is a folder)
......|__advanced (it is a folder too, coming from lockscreen)
..............|__all lockscreen stuff (as files)
......|__theme_values.xml (in lockscreen)
you ahve to zip in the contents of "your_theme" and name it mtz. then copy to phone and phone asks if you want to convert to new format. chooese yes and done

Alright, I added the Advanced folder and themes value file to winrar.
Selected Zip and "Store" under the compression menu. Then ok.
Well it saved it as a zip as 'lockscreen' but there's no way to change it back to just the 'file' type it was.
I tried zipping THAT zip with the rest of the files into a zip, then renaming it to mtz and applying it on my phone, but it just ended up being the default lock.
I must be doing something wrong.

When you have zipped it up using the store and zip options, and are left with lock screen.zip.. Open the zip with winrar, don't extract just open, when winrar opens with the files go back a step so you can see the lock screen.zip rather than its files and just delete the zip extension that way and close winrar

This method is by far easy and quicker in my honest opinion
Alrighty then.
Now onto my next issue.
How hard would it be to take away the charging battery/status off this lockscreen and replace it with this kind of battery charging status?
As you can see, the default iPhone charging covers up the music controls and notifications when they come in. I want just the simple glowing bar above the unlocker like the other one.
if you have both manifests then you can swap in the battery section to the ls you want (look for "battery")
you have to copy the appropiate images to your ls and might have to change coordinates
Thanks Picard. That wasn't as hard as I thought.
I deleted all the battery images from the first one and put in the ones from the second.
Deleted the battery section in the XML and replaced it with the other.
Changed the coordinates and ****ing bam! I did it!
Edit; Fixed my coordinate mistake.
