Keyboard Replacement for Diamond II - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Although i love my phone, sometimes it bugs me when sending messages or emails. I was wondering if there was an application out there that would allow me to either (temporarily) replace / swap arround the full screen keyboard for a standard cellphone looking like keypad (as in where you have to "press" the buttons multiple times for a letter) but would still support the "AT9" feature.
I used the search & found somethin like Finger Keyboard 2 but it does not support my native language dutch. The auther claims that the dutch language uses the same as english layout. However this is only partially true. The phone does come with a qwerty layout, but its the dutch (NETHERLANDS) that use QWERTY on keyboards. I myself am BELGIAN (dutch, totally different country) and we use the AZERTY layout on our keyboards. Although it are minute differences in the layout it still often leaves me searching for letters, symbols.
Can anyone help me ?

You might want to try this and see if it works but i cant say it will 100% but give it a shot.

Keyboard layout and T9 function

Hi all, just got the diamond last week, damn its nice, just the battery life sucks.
I used to own a UK T-Mobile Mda 3, loved the calender as i change shifts a lot, was looking to replace it a few months back heard tell of the diamond so decided to wait.......however...
The sms full keyboard on my old MDA3 used to allow predictive words (t9 i think) but the diamond does not seem to, I like the keyboard layout over the qwerty or comapct qwerty as they both take up too much for the screen for my taste.
The t9 does not seem to work in the keybaord layout, i think i have all the settings correct, as it works in the other 2 setups but not keybaord.
also, is there a website that lists all the compatible 6.1 programs? not sure what i want, but more like teeter would be nice, or even a different sms prog that allows predictive text!!
Cheers

The same for me. T9 works only using qwerty layout. If you use keyboard layout predictive text doesn't work. Someone has an idea ? My rom is 1.37 from HTC official italian.
Thanks in advance

Found it ! Thanks to newtonmj in modaco forum
You must chaange the registry key XT9SupportMSSip in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tegic\eT9\ from '0' to '1'.
This allows the predictive text to work correctly in standard keyboard too.
I don't know if this mod can "damage" other settings but I don't think. It allows the predictive input to work using microsoft standard keyboard. In my device now works !

Very nice. I think I'll try it. But I wanted that worked correctly standard keyboard without adding third part software. What is standard in my device MUST work correctly. Then perhaps I'll not use it, but this is another thing
I'm paranoic. But I can't accept that a phone worth about 500€ does't go in the appropriate way......

Question about T9 and the Xperia keyboard

For a week I am a lucky owner of the Xperia X1. And it is everything I thought it would be!
But I have a question about the T9 function.
The Touch Pro suggest words (and has a T9 function also?) when entering text with the keyboard, is that also possible with the Xperia?

To a certain extent, it can suggest up to 4 words (or possibly more if you edit the registry) and that's enabled via the Options menu for the keyboard SIP. Personally I feel the Xperia's implementation of the autocomplete and especially autocorrect isn't nearly as robust as the Touch Pro, but something's better than nothing.
You can still install the Touch Pro On-Screen keyboard and T9 if you don't like the X1 default T9.
But does that improve the autocorrect/autocomplete functionality for the hardware keyboard? I read somewhere that installing that will actually disable whatever autocorrect/autocomplete feature that's currently on the Xperia.

no it'll break the autocomplete function when using hardware keyboard.
the only thing i dont like about my X1 is the difficulty in SMS text messaging
is the on screen keyboard you guys are referring to the same as the on screen touch panel when you go to dial a phone number?
the same as 'traditional' phone keyboards?
if so, where can i download this function at?
many thanks
Ross
Yea, but why use a software touch keyboard when u got a nice hardware keyboard to work around with?
I find the hardware keyboard much more of us. And one of the reasons I (we?) brought the Xperia because of his hardware keyboard.
i do like the hard keyboard, but the thing i loved about my older SE phones was i could use the T9 predictive text, and text very fast and effortlessly using the predictive testing and the traditional keys, where as with this, sending a SMS is quite an effort!
so is there an on screen keypad the same as when you press the receiver button and see the keypad?

LOL... I spent ages trying to find the perfect soft keyboard for my device after losing the ability to use my favourite (PPCLink HiKeyboard) because of screen incompatibility. THEN it dawned on me! I actually have a hardware keyboard, I just forget it's there sometimes DOH!

Did anyone find this yet?
I saw something about being able to access a t9 phonepad when using the chinese keyboard but it wouldn't work on my x10 and I loathe the qwerty boards on this phone.

Freedom Mini BT Keyboard character mismatch

Hello,
I am trying to use my (German) Diamond with the old (English) Freedom Mini Bluetooth Keyboard. See http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=725
I could not find any drivers for this keyboard on the net anymore, but pairing does work fine without, basic writing is also possible (only z and y is switched). Though I have major problems with the remaining keyboard layouts, as almost all additional characters (!"§$%& etc.) are not there, where the keyboard layout says. Its always a try and error approach for me.
Does anyone manage to use it in a real "what you see is what you get" mode maybe by changing the language on the diamond or via a driver?
Is there any easy way to change the the keyboard layout (AEKmap might work, but with it I had to remap almost all keys)
Thanks,
Michael
Characters mismatch
I bought an Freedom Universal Keyboard² and have the same problem regarding some keys do not match up with the signs on the keyboard.
I also put an message on their help desk (a week ago), no answer yet.
Unfortunally the choises between the layouts in the driver is very limited.

typing on the device

Hello,
I am really thinking of getting the HTC touch diamond2. I currently have HTC tilt (or tytn II). I use it mostly for messaging. Anyways, my question is: how easy is it to type on the device? Is it as good as an iphone (better or worse)? Can you use your finger tips or do you have to use the stylus? Is there a video I can watch someone typing on it?
Thank you
I have moved from the Touch Pro (with keyboard) like yourself I used it for texts and emails, I thought I would hate the new keyboard but its pretty good, its got heptic feedback on the keys and they are nicely spaced out. Its very responsive to use, the best HTC keyboard I have used and I dont make many mistakes and dont have to use stylus.
new keyboard is great for typing...holding it in two hands a writing with both fingers without any mistake...
That is indeed good news. Can't wait until I get mine. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow. I also type a lot on it and I am hoping that will be a pleasant experience.
Personally I have gone from an AT&T Tilt (Full HW Keyboard) to the TD2 and also thought I would hate the lack of hardware keyboard, but it has really grown on me, and with no problems at all with typing I might stick with the TD2 instead of going onto the TP2. It just works for me, though lack of 3g sucks for me here in the states... lol
I'm thinking of maybe getting the UK version, cause the device is delayed here in Norway.
Question is: Is it difficult to access special symbols (letters) like Æ Ø Å on the UK keyboard?
I've never owned an HTC device so don't know how one normally access them. They are however crucial, and used quite frequently.

This is a very interesting question, I have refrained from UK version till now, waiting for the french version only to get a soft keyboard with french layout (including é, ç, à, ...). I do not care having the OS localized in english (in fact, i would even choose english over french for the OS), but the qwerty layout is a deal breaker.
Is it possible to change the keyboard layout? Or even better, add different keyboard layout and T9 dictionaries so they appear simultaneously in the WinMo entry switcher? I would love to just switch among the different keyboard installed if needed (having a french one and a non-western thai one would be great, adding japanese would be even better )
I ordered mine from Expansys and they told me, after having talked to HTC, that it would be possible to update the device to include different keyboard layouts. I hope this is correct, because I cannot be without Swedish characters. Otherwise, could Fingerkeyboard solve the issue?
Hi!
Originally I got the 20th of April as a dispatch date form KlartSvar (the reseller used by my employer), but as you say the device is delayed. I talked to a representative from Brightpoint this morning regarding the delay, and he said that the new delivery date to resellers is the 5th of May. Hopefully this is correct, I will wait until then before deciding if I have to look around for a WWE edition somewhere.
If someone could give some information about if it's possible to write accent characters on the WWE xT9 keyboards, I would appreciate the feedback.
I guess that cabs for all languages for EzInput2 (topaz HTC keyboards) will eventually be available anyway, when localized devices start hitting resellers in different countries.
Regards,
PK

Are you using the default EzInput? And in landscape mode or portrait? I have a Diamond and had to give up on the Full QWERTY as well as the Compact QWERTY because I hated one-handed typing (and it was too small to type with both hands).
I am currently using SpB Keyboard on my Diamond, with the landscape fullscreen keyboard, and so far that has helped a lot. I can type really fast with two thumbs now.
Special characters are available with the WWE version using the HTC full qwerty keyboard. They aren't visible on the keyboard, but if you press and hold for example the a key a popup character selector appears giving access to
eight different variations of accent including the Æ and Å (I'm typing this on a MAC and don't know how to access these characters on it so can only copy and paste)
You can also used the standard WM keyboard and get at them by pressing the symbol key, but its really only usable with the stylus.
I've got a Diamond, so my question is how is the qwerty keyboard in portrait mode? The reason I ask is because I read a review that said the screen width has not changed between the Diamond and Diamond2. That doesn't seem right. Can anyone comment on both the screen width and typing in portrait mode?
Hi!
Thanks for the feedback! What about the xT9 dictionary then, is it possible to switch to a different languages in the WWE edition? If so, which languages?

PK

Its locked to english, but there may have been an option to select a different language at setup time, to be honest I can't remember and don't want to hard reset to find out. Perhaps someone else will know? If its English only that shouldn't really be a problem, just flash a ROM in your own language when its available.
Got my D2 today. Very happy. But there is no language option as far as the keyboard goes. Have not tried fingerkeyboard yet.

[Q] How to add language to the Samsung Keyboard and Hebrew problem with outgoing SMS

Hello! I am finally a new happy owner of a Galaxy Note!
Its not perfect, I think the Dell Streak was easier to use (very hard to hold it in left hand and NOT press Power, Volume Up/Down buttons).
Anyway - I have much more serious problem:
Any outgoing SMS message in hebrew, is seen as question marks by the recipient (even using another Android phone as well).
Only clue that I have is, when I finish typing the message and click on Send, I get Warning (Attention) as follows: "Message may be corrupted on recipient device. Change input mode to automatic"
I am not sure what this mean?
My other problem, is that no other keyboard (like Anysoftkeyboard, or Swype), seem to allow language swapping using the Spacebar - which I found very comfortable (and swype not supporting hebrew at all) - so I must find a way to incorporate Hebrew into the Samsung Keyboard please.
Another potential issue, is that I feel the Stylus might not be functioning correctlly - it requires more pressure than I am used to, with my Dell Latitude XT2, which I use to write all lectures and practice at uni - perhaps something is wrong with my pen? or is it right that I have to apply what I would define as "moderate" pressure for it to even register on the Note taker?
ok, I solved my own problem for SMS:
When in Messaging center, click Menu, then Settings and go to Input Mode - change it to Automatic.
Hope it helps others who search for this dumb default setting on GSM alphabet (why??)
Still having the problem with Hebrew for the Samsung keyboard to switch using Spacebar
how did u get the hebrew keyboard to work, as when i try to type in hebrew the keys are not displayed correctly

I am using AnySoftKeyboard, with added Hebrew keyboard addon.
It works fine, keys are displayed correctly out of the box Samsung ROM.
that is so weird because I have also used anysoftkeyboard and the Hebrew addon but the characters are not displayed correctly at all.
Although I have the Arabic rom installed which has RTL support
very weird
hmm, mine does not have Arabic option.
Is there any chance the distributor in your country decided on his own to make Hebrew intentionally not work on their ROM? (unlikely, but not unimaginable...)
Your alternative is to reflash the ROM to one Euro version.
Go settings-->Application-->All-->Messaging-->Clear Data
Hope this helps.
I need to add Portuguese language to the Note II T889. I know the Note II N7100 has it on it. How can this be done? Anyone? There has to be a way to import the Portuguese Language if the N7100 has it on it??!!??
