reverting back to original ROM to use warranty - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

i just got a new HTC Touch HD from orange romania. It is sim locked to the orange network. i would like to unlock it and then flash it with one of the new WM 6.5 ROM. i was just wondering if there is any chance that i can later flash back to the original ROM so that i can use the warranty if ever needed??

Of course you can return to original rom. All stock roms are available for download in the wiki here.
Follow cRaCKwHoRe's guide for flashing roms and for your purposes on returning to original rom I would use USPL instead of HSPL.
In future before posting a new thread read the wiki, try searching for your answer as many people have asked this before and read the forum rules!!!

You must reflash with a 6.1 ROM. With an Hard reset you have simply reload the 6.5 .

Hello can some one help i have an htc hd and currently running 6.5 rom, now i have some phone damage thats not caused by the rom this is a factory issue but anyway i want to default to 6.1 rom like it originally came from factory that way i can be covered under warranty phone is european was purchased in london i believe thats what the seller told me but anyway some one please give me ideas and brief instructions on how to flash the 6.1 original hd settings???
You can reflash to 6.1 using the ROM on the HTC website:
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=179&cat=2&dl_id=533
That should get you back to what it was for a claim under the warranty.
May be you not already run HSPL

Firstly, you need to first reflash to a stock rom. Many stock roms can be found here.
Next, you need to revert to a stock spl which matches your rom. Depending on the rom you use this could be either 1.13, 1.14 or 1.54. You may need a little trial and error to find the right one. You'll have some colour issues with the rom if you use the wrong one (ie blue/green low res graphics). The procedure to follow and the stock spl's can be found at the bottom of this post
Follow ClydeB1's advice and you should be fine. Any further queries on returning to stock, post in this thread

Orange Branded HD - Upgrade ROM

Hi Guys
Ive done a search but cant find anything specific so im starting a a new thread.
I have a Touch HD which I got through Orange UK.
Rom version sis: 1.19.61.1 WWE
At the moment im told that I cant receive any updates directly from the HTC site and orange dont really seem to care about offering a good after service.
So my option is to flash my phone with a new ROM, however which version to go for is my biggest question and I really dont have any idea. I understand the flash proceure. WIll any ROM allow updates from HTC site?
Thanks
Craig
hi
i also have a uk branded orange touch hd
i flashed it with the latest official rom from htc (the one that needs a serial number to download and the orange serials dont work)
just use a serial provided in the offical rom upgrade thread to download the rom from htc and use uspl 2.5 to flash it
i used uspl 2.5 to upgrade the rom
all info can be found using the search fuction on this forum
i also made a dump of the phone before i flashed it, just need someone to rebuild the .raw files to a flashable rom
hope this helps
math
Nice one Math, that helps a lot! Will give this a go over the weekend.

Ok, where do we start? Which ROM you choose is really a bit like asking what car should I choose to buy. The choice is entirely yours based on what you want and what you like.
I think the first question to ask yourself is what do you want? What Windows Mobile OS do you want? WM6.1, WM 6.1 with Touch flow, WM 6.1 with the latest version of Touch flow or WM 6.5 Beta. I'm sure there are more but lets keep it simple.
WM 6.1 or 6.5? HTC Touch Flow or not? What is your native language as you have nothing set in your profile etc?
May I suggest you have a look through the first few posts of each of the ROM threads for this month and see what takes your fancy. If you ask ten people you will get ten possibly different answers.
Look at peoples signatures and see what most people use as most display what current ROM they are using. Maybe try a few, but I suggest use the safest route and follow the instructions to the letter.
Its always a matter of personal opinion but I like Duttys current WM6.1 with TF3D XT3. It's the latest and well tested with fewer bugs than the stock ROM from HTC (IMHO) and is based on the latest technology from the next gen HTC phones.
Do your research and enjoy!

Yes, the choose is your, but as an Orange user myself. I was bored with the official HTC Orange Rom and decided to flash my rom. Did manage to keep the back up on original rom in cause of warranty reason. I have try quite a lot of cook rom the only problem I had was mainly with battery life wasn’t good and will not last for a day or so. Since with this rom, HD|ROM||WWE|| ** EnergyROM HD Series 21042 - Final Topaz Manila ** || Build 40909 || man!! The software and battery life is incredible. Yes I would recommend to you

where did u get this rom from? link?
couple of newbie questions. I also have orange phone ...
If I upgrade to the latest HTC rom will I loose all my programs installed in the phones memory?
Will I loose my programs/they stop working (e.g. Tomtom) that have been reigstered with the phone (in add/remove programs) on my memory card?
Can I restore everything from a backup (sprite) ?
Is there any way of goign back to the older ROM if I need to send my phone back for warranty reasons?
Thanks

Thanks for info. Just to clarify a couple of things..
Will my sprite backup restore all programs and settings to the new rom version?
How can I backup my existing ROM? I'm guessing the official ROM is a HSPL?
Thanks

USPL and HSPL these are different method of putting new ROM to your phone.
you will find more information in here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Flash1
with this method you can get a backup of your current ROM

Thanks again. I never thought it would be so complicated. I thougth someone would have created a GUI for this stuff, its amazing what they have GUI's for these days and this is still command line.
Still unsure as to wether I can restore my sprite back up after going to 1.56 rom though. With the amount I have installed its probably not worth the effort for now.

Changing Dutch rom to English

Is there a way to do this? I bought my HTC Touch Pro 2 in The Netherlands but my Dutch isn't that great and I get lost in my phone a lot... Does anyone know if there's a way to change the ROM from one language to another? Thanks.
Flash HSPL so you can flash any rom you want... like the stock WWE version, or any custom rom found on this forum
This voids all warranty i believe, is there a way to put it back to the way I bought it, incase i need to send it in?
You can re-flash your TP2 with the original rom (i did it).
What kind of backup tool will I need to use on my original ROM before I start? I'm seeing instructions for the Magician etc but not the Pro2, is it model specific?
Please search before starting new threads, both of these are very common questions and have been answered on the forum and the wiki many times.
Thanks
Dave

[Q] Will flashing Dutty's ROM unlock my device?

Hey guys,
here is my situation: I purchased this Touch HD, locked for Orange UK:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390090712754&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I do not have it here yet, so I am not able to answer detailed questions about the software on itor anything of the sort at this moment.
I live in Germany, I use O2, I have no Orange SIM-Card.
Will following this tutorial "[TUT] Dummies guide: flashing 1.56+ roms [v 2.0] - [HSPL][USPL]" using the HardSPL method and Dutty'S recent 6.1 ROM unlock this Touch HD or is there more to it than following this tutorial?
If there is more to it, what is the general concept to get my device unlocked and ready to go?
If the answer is in this ridiculously long thread please excuse my question, I haven't read the WHOLE thing.

in one word - NO
you will still need your device sim unlocked - there are many places this can be done for about €15
have a look at http://blackstone.sim-unlocker.com/ for one such place
(i am not afiliated with them nor am I recommending them - I have no experience with this company at all - use at your own discression)
So what do I do first? The olipro method and then the SIM unlock? or vice versa? Are there more steps? I really don't mind the 15 EUR, I just want to be sure to get it all in the correct order and not brick my device doing it
As far as I understand I do the following:
1. HardSPL and ROM flash
2. SIM unlock for 15 EUR
Will this get me to my goal?
The unlocker by Olipro includes Hard SPL. So just use that and then flash any ROM you like.
If you're not using the Olipro unlocker, you need to use the Hard SPL before you try to Flash ROMs.
Any more problems please use the existing threads instead of creating a new one.

Downgrade from WM 6.5 to old WM 6.1 (original)???

Hello!
I have a huge problem. I've had some problems with the battery on my HTC TP2 and in service they changed it. The problem is that they made an update to the software to what they call it is the last version: WM 6.5 with HTC Sense. I didn't ask for this and since it was a hardware problem I don't know what happend.
I asked them if they can downgrade to WM 6.1 like it was in the original phone and they said they couldn't do that.
I was wondering if I can get any help here?! Is there a way to find the original WM 6.1 from HTC? They don't have a version for HTC TP2 on their site ... So, how could I solve this problem?
I hate WM 6.5 with Sense because it moves really SLOW! Yes, it has many interesting things but there are a lot of badly made things . This is why I want to erase it from my phone.
Regards,
Laurentiu

Yes the 6.1 stock roms are there too
cheers
Thank you!
And that is the original ROM??? From HTC? Released especially for this phone???
Well not all off them on that page!
But the ones that start with "RUU_Rhodium_HTC_" are the official ones released for the rhodium (HTC Touch Pro 2) by HTC.
You just need to pick your language or the world wide english(WWE) variant.
In my case i am from the netherlands and would have to choose: RUU_Rhodium_HTC_NLD_1.19.404.1_Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.27_Signed_Ship.exe
Cheers
ps. in my signature is one of the best wm 6.1 roms i have ever stumbled upon. If you are not persistant in keeping your phone "official" HTC, i can really recommend that one. Loads of RAM very stable. Beats the stock rom in every way. But you would have to flash your htc touch pro 2 with a non official rom. (check it out at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618063)
Bear in mind that if your phone doesn't have HardSPL, you won't be able to flash most of the official ROMs (there are loads of them), you'll only be able to flash official ROMs designed for your specific model/branding of phone. e.g. I have a Vodafone UK-branded TP2, so without HardSPL, I can only flash Vodafone UK official ROMs, I can't even flash a generic HTC official ROM.
With HardSPL you can flash any ROM you like for your phone (GSM Rhodium), official or "cooked" (custom).

Since i have the "luxury" of an unbranded rhodium, i never had to think about that, but your absolutely right! Sure hope TS has an unbranded model so the choices are not too limited
