Screen turn off problem - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

Does anyone have a problem where if you are using Googlemaps and the screen turns off while using gps? If so how how can I make it stay on?
Rytt

Buy pocketshield. It will allow you to keep the phone from suspending if you have specified process running (like Google Maps). Or you can try Battery Guard. It should allow you to configure your device to keep the GPS (or any other "sub"device if needed) running in standby mode.

Hm.. I guess I should change my signature... but since I did post in the magic section...... I think I have an magic!
My google maps turns off in 2 mins (my basic screen setting to turn off) and I can't keep the app alive to use the GPS normally.
Any thoughts?

GPS disconnect when TD goes standby?!

Hi,
When im using TrackMe, Run.GPS or other GPS programs, i hate having the Diamond on because of the power consumption, so is there anyway to get it to standby mode without it self disconnecting from the GPS?
I've tried manually to push the on/off button so it goes to standby however it loses the gps signals.
I think you can use an application like psShutXP to just switch the display off but keep everything running as if it was on. Is the same trick some people use to listen music with the screen off.
Thanks i will try it later today.
I read some other post about the bluetooth is most likely to consume less power than the internal GPS. (Have an external HoluxSlim240).
And i found out that Nokia had this program Nokia Energy Profiler, so is there a program for the same purpose to the Diamond?

Anywho, yes, suspending (power button) will turn off the built-in GPS, and I think even bluetooth GPS. TrackMe will just turn off the screen, the phone itself stays on, and it'll keep tracking as long as the phone doesn't turn itself off.
I use PhoneAlarm to set the suspend time to disabled, turns up the backlight, turns up notifications, and runs TrackMe in a "GPS Tracking" profile, so I just change profiles and go.
I suppose more GPS Tracking programs are not a bad idea, just... eh.. Duplication I guess.

Can GPS be made to log with screen turned off?

I used to have a HTC wizard with an external bluetooth GPS. When I used that with memory map for walking maps I when I turned the screen off the GPS would stay connected and it would keep tracking the route I had taken without using too much power.
Was just wondering if there was a way to turn the screen off on the kaiser but to keep the GPS connected and logging?
You could use Dave Shaw's XDA Shutdown as has a lights out feature doesn't turn phone to sleep.
Thanks, I'll take a look at that.

[Q] Wifi turns off when screen goes off how to fix it?

Hi i am really annoyed about my X1 because whenever i download a video from a site i leave it to download but my wifi keeps turning off when the screen turns off and my download just stops. Is there anyway to make it so wifi stays on or keep my screen permenantly on?
A question out of this topic
1. What is android and what benefits do i get from it?
2. What is 1% battery increments i don't get what it is or what it does?
Purchase program Sreen Off
Hi,
You can change in settings to display never turns off, but you battery will loose to much energy, or purchase Sreen Off program, you can find it on google or on Microsoft Marktplace.
About question 2: with this increment you can see battery change 1%, like 91%....90%

Hi, install hTorch, I have the v3.2 version and it has a button to turn off the screen.
Very useful feature, I'd like to be able to access it from outside the program, like giving some parameters to the exe. If anybody knows how to do this please can you explain?
here's a pic:
Get Advanced Config. With this software it is possible to change the settings for Wifi so the connection keeps active when the device goes to stand by.

GPS seems to enter sleep when the screen is off

Hi,
I often use the RunKeeper application when I make long walks. In all my previous phones, the GPS kept working when I turned off the display and put the phone in my pocket. In the mi 5, however, it seems like the GPS stopped functioning as soon as I turn off the display put the phone in my pocket. When I take it back out, it shows the same position that I was at when I put the phone in my pocket, and within a few seconds it is updated to my actual position.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a matter of settings (maybe even permissions)? Same happens with navigation apps like Waze - if I put another application to run in the foreground, such as Youtube, then Waze (while still working in the background) loses my location, and when I switch back to it after some time, it takes a few seconds to show me my new location.
Thanks,
Shlomy
Hi,
This has happened to me also while using the Starva app and the reason is MIUI doesn't allow to use the Location in Background.
To allow that, go to
Settings -> Battery & Performance -> Power -> App Battery Saver
and select the app you want. Then you'll see that Background location is Restrict. Make it Allow and you're good to go.
Regards,
Samitha
Thanks so much! Almost got me to try custom roms because of that.
