Contacts Backup on Magic? - myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games

I want to try a different rom , but is there a contacts backup program?

the same questions with you

Contacts should be synchronized with your google account. So they are already backed up on your gmail account.
From there (web app) you can also export a csv file.

yep mine are synced with google mail. you could also just copy them to the sim card and then import them back in after you flash new rom.

Can I backup messaging account settings?

Before I update the firmware, I would like to backup or copy the messaging account settings from my phone.
Are there one or more files that I can simply copy to my PC?
Thanks
Not that I've found.

[Q] Export/import/sync contacts data

How can I export my contacts to be imported again later? Does the gmail sync only work one way? I.e. from your gmail account to your phone and not the other way around?
There is a built-in import-export tool available in the menu in contacts.
It exports contacts to sd card.

What about the google sync question?
Just checked and it synced from phone to google
Sent from The Dark Captivate
Google sync is two way and I can't get the SD Card Export feature to work properly. Importing the resulting csv gives me a parse error
The only option I can see under import/export in the contacts menu is 'send namecard via'. I don't see the import option.
I have a csv file that I need to import, and I don't want to sync with gmail, any ideas? Thanks
Well I figured how to import contacts (not sync) without going through gmail. I know most of the users sync with gmail but in case you don't want to here's one way to do it on Windows. Eventually you'll need a single vCards (.vcf) file. If you can't export into vcf files from Outlook or whatever source you can do this:
-export contacts into a CSV file
-import into Windows contacts
-export into vCards (vcf files)
-combine all vcf files into 1 (in the command line navigate to the folder where your vcf files are and run this: "copy *.vcf allcontacts.vcf")
-copy the merged file allcontacts.vcf to your phone
-delete your phone contacts
-click on allcontacts.vcf to import the contacts to your phone
I'll be doing this until they come up with a sync tool over usb or bluetooth.
I have a vcf file from an old phone that I want to import. I mounted the phone as a mass storage device on my ubuntu box. Where should I put the file so that the contacts program can find it?
Thanks for any help!

Just stick it on your external sd (if you are using one) or the root of your internal mem.
Thanks zelendel. I'm actually so noob at this phone that I haven't quite learned how to use the UI very efficiently yet. I found the 'import' option for the contacts program, and that let me import my vcf file (which i put into the root of the phone since I don't have an external sd card yet). Again, thanks.
This is the way I do:
Backup "contacts storage" in TiBu. Save this backup in a safe place.
This I use to restore all contacts intact whenever I flash any new ROM. This restores "favorite contacts" too.
Put in the internal card the import should see the file. The other option is to go to the file via astro and select it will ask where to import
I have used TiBu and it works great
But I also sync with my GMail. I was bored one day so I actually went into my contacts on my lappy and updated everything in my contacts folder. And when I flash a new ROM all I do is log into my GMail and Sync. and POOF! Everything comes back up like nothing ever happened.
Also if you go into Contacts --> Settings --> Save New Contacts and set it to GMail or Google (Which ever it says) it will keep everything up to date and there is no need to backup.
Hope that helps

[Q] restore contacts using vcf format

hi guys, i just backup my contacts from android using vcf format. n i have problem to restore in my touch diamond 2. anyone know how to solve this, please....thank u very much. once again i appriaciate all ur help.
Use Microsoft ActiveSync to import your vcf to outlook, and synchronize your phone with PC
I have vcf files from mi nokia 5530 phone and tried the stock contacts import but it duplicates all my contacts so I have to use this apps:
- Contact remover for remove all the contacts
- SDBackup (I have mine in Chinese, but the second button is import) and I choose vcf file (one vcf file with all the contacts, but it seems to work with individual vcf files) and it works pretty good and now I have my contacts in my Motorola Defy
Search in the market for the apps because I can't paste URL's yet
I run in this problem again (fresh rom install) and can't find SDBackup app now, after a research, I found this app [1] that is just great. I hope it can help you

Backing up Contacts app

In my last few ROM updates I had problems with my contacts. I would export them menu>import/export>export to SD card, and then import them. However the contacts then would be all screwed up. Choosing a contact would bring up an entirely different contact. Moreover I found that I couldn't even correct it by hand. Even if I'd manually change the name and number, it would still decide to show me a completely different contact than the one I had chosen. SYncing with google seemed to make the process even more confusing.
So the last ROM update, I ended up starting from scratch and typing in all my contacts manually.
Before flashing another ROM I'd like to know if backing up the actual Contacts app (w/data) in Titanium would save all of my phone contact information.
I don't believe it does. I keep my contacts backed up in my google account. Every ROM I install syncs with my google account automatically and pulls my contacts to my phone
Titanium backup does backup contacts.
Just remember to backup "CONTACTS STORAGE" not "CONTACTS".
All contacts info is stored in contacts storage.

I am not sure of that. But contacts storage does restore contacts and favorites.
I am not sure of SMS groups. Maybe u should see for some file related to messaging app, or for sms storage.
Edit:
I just checked through TiBu. There are two entries:
1. [sms/MMS PREFS] Messaging 2.2.1 and
2. OMACP 1.0
Create a test group, backing these up, then delete one of ur groups, and try restoring back to see if these are the files that need to be backed up.
Please post ur outcome of we can all know if that works.

[Q] kies on ics rc1 rom

i recently flashed my galaxy s i9000 onto onecosmic ics rom RC1
i found that there is no option to use kies.
i had all my content backed up through kies especially contacts
can anyone please tell me how to get kies working or any other solution???????
2. there is no my files in it n kies air seems to be not working
plz provide a solution???????????
You wont get Kies working with RC1, because RC1 is no Samsung Firmware.
Save you Contacts with your Google Account
can u plz tell me how to do that????
how can i backup my contacts with my google account?
is there any way i can get back my contacts which is in .spb file as stored by kies???
go into Settings->Accounts, select your Google account, and enable contact sync. If you want to check if they've been synced, you can just log into GMail from a desktop or laptop and check.
If you did a nandroid backup from you last ROM where you had all your contacts, you can go back to it and sync your contacts with you google account, then go back to ICS and now you are able to get your contacts with your google account.
