When unrooting, bootloader is saying "no image found"... - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am following these instructions to bring my phone back to stock, before I send it in for a replacement (Alt key isn't working):
1. get the original SPL for your phone, go to the SPL thread at the top
2. rename it to update.zip and flash it to your phone
3. download the DREAIMG.nbh from the thread where you rooted your phone
4. place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card and start phone in bootloader(camera+power)
5. hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough
6. hit action(trackball down) and your phone will reboot
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit
I downloaded G1OrigBootloader_nocheck.zip, copied it to my SD card, renamed it to "update.zip", turned the phone off, powered up holding HOME and POWER and then pressed ALT+W for wipe and then ALT+S to apply the update. So far, so good.
Then I deleted update.zip from the SD card and moved DREAIMG.nbh onto it. I powered off the phone, then pressed the camera button and power. It has the white screen with the blue text "Loading..." and then the screen briefly flashes with "No image file!" before going to the bootloader screen.
Help! I don't know what to do next. Many thanks!
ETA: Should I install the DREAIMG.nbh *before* installing the stock SPL?
ETA 2: I formatted my SD Card just for grins (I could swear I had done that before) and now it's working fine. So. For anyone else who gets the No Image File error, try formatting your SD Card and then transferring files. Also, I re-downloaded the DREAIMG.nbh file so it might've even been that which fixed it. At any rate, I no longer need assistance and I don't know how to delete a post. I'm assuming you can't.

In case anyone else comes across this thread while having this problem...
I had the same problem with my Rhodium. The problem disappeared when I switched from formatting that particular SD card with FAT to FAT32.
So, try FAT32 and see if that helps!

Yup^ android cant read fat partitions.
Also why do you want to unroot?

I was helping a friend unroot for a warranty return and I encountered this problem. While I realized that it was a simple, and some what dumb typograpghical error in my case. Have you checked, and I mean really checked the filename? I realized that I had a space in between the "G" and the "." (DREAIMG .nbh, rather than DREAIMG.nbh) I have the RC29 and RC30 .nbh images backed up on my home computer for just such purposes and I have them labeled accordingly (example: DREAIMG RC29.nbh). So when I went use it, I copied the file, edited the name, and forgot to take the space out. It therefore displayed no image for me as well. Just something simple to check.

I need help!!

I am trying to downgrade my RC30 to RC29, so I can root my G1. Well, I copt DREAIMG.nbh to my SD card, but when I go to boot my phone, I get a multi colored screen that stays there, and it says no image found.
Did T-Mobile find a way to block the root capabilities, or am I bieng an idiot.
Please help.
Thank you
use the search option this question has been asked soooooooooooooo many times ....
see thats the thing, I have gone through android-dls and followed the destructions to a T, but I get red/green/blue/white screen that has a white bar with serial0 in it.
I talked to one of the reps @ T Mobile that told be about rooting when I bought the phone on Sat, and now his isnt working......
Here's what you need
http://android-dls.com/files/upload/DREAIMG.nbh
rename this file DREAMIMG.nbh and place it on your sdcard root (the card may repeat may need reformatted -mine didn't but a friends did so try it without first).
then reboot with the camera button depressed, you should get the coloured lines, it should recognise the image. if this doesn't happen reformat your sdcard as fat32 (this is easily done from windows mac or linux) place the image on the sdcard root as above and try again.
At last count this has not been fixed! but most likely will be with the new rc33 roll out!
Let us know how you get on mate.
Right on man, I am starting on it now, will let ya know in a few.....
unfortunately, it still is not recognizing the img, the card has been reformatted to FAT32, and still no avail. The DREAMIMG.nbh is the only file on the SD card
i am on build tc4-rc30, if that helps, doubt it, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I upgraded from the Shadow, and I miss so many of the features, dont really miss WM, but oh well
Did you check the MD5 of the file you downloaded?
Should be: 53840b90a0fe1bfab19fab8ef8fb9724
Did you put DREAIMG.NBH or DREAIMG.nbh? its all caps try that or the file might be corrupted try downloading it again
oh yeah and its DREAIMG not DREAMIMG (sorry for the second post)
Yes it is MD5 53840b90a0fe1bfab19fab8ef8fb9724 and I had it named both DREAIMG and DREAMIMG
I have reformatted the card again, and still, when I reboot with the camera button held, a quick white screen flashes and I can barely see that it says no image found, then back to the multicolored screen, with a white bar, with serial 0 in it. I can soft reset it, but nothing.....
umm try downloading a different file the first time i did i got a update failed message so i just got another one and it worked
see the problem is, I have dl the file from here, http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Root_For_RC30, and http://www.webnetta.com/2009/01/02/how-to-downgrade-your-g1-to-get-root/
And all of them with the same results. Sorry for all this guys, Im not a newb to getting into the guts of my phones, but this one is pissin me off lmao
http://www.modmygphone.com/files/firmwares/DREAIMG-RC29.zip
try this one the android wiki doesnt work i got update failed on that one the 1st time
working on it now
well i tried it on mine right now just for fun lol and it worked so you should be ok just make sure its in the root of the sd card and not in any type of folder
still the same ****. I dont know what else to do

HELP

My phone is stuck in the lil rainbow fastboot i guess screen. but i dont have a correct update.zip in my SD card. I cant restart my phone, what do i do?
Pull the battery and restart?
tried that. just goes back to the red green and blue
Isn't it CALL+MENU+END?
How did you get your phone stuck in the spl? Did you try to flash it? If not, check to see if the camera button is stuck against the casing.
If the camera button isnt stuck, you'll have to remove the microsd and write the DREAIMG.NBH file using a card reader.
Download this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EMY1HIVU
Extract the DREAMIMG.nbh file to your SD card
Power off G1
Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode.
You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card.
Press the Power button to start upgrade procedure.
Wait till completely finished.
Restart your phone.

thanks, thats exactly what i thought i needed to do, i just need to find a card reader to use... i can go straight to JF 1.5 right? cuz thats what i was running before. The story is that i tried to do a nandroid recovery from my computer and I dont know what happened after that.
after loading up the dream files can i just do the regular update to JF 1.5?

I believe so, I'm picky so I always do JF-30, then JF-33, then JF-1.5 just to be safe.....for me.
it didnt work, it said something like there was no file? its just that dreaimg.nbh file right? i dont need to rename it to update.zip? or anything?
double post, see below. sorry.

try and reformat your sdcard first to FAT32, just as a precaution.
then extract the dreaimg.nbh file to the sdcard, don't rename it.
it should be like 89,419kb.
pull the battery just to be safe, pop battery back in.
make sure your holding the camera button down first, THEN press power, keep holding till the gray screen pops up.
when it say to, press the power button to start the update.
let it go, just sit back and wait till it says to press action button (trackball)
since i was on adp1.5 before this, should i just try to put in adp1.5?
No update.zip
Make sure that card is formatted FAT32, and that the DREAMIMG.nbh file is not actually DREAMIMG.nbh.nbh (right click>properties-----make sure that the file is DREAMIMG.nbh, not DREAMIMG.nbh.nbh). If thats been established, it should work.
srry I type slow
it just says no image file?

try placing the .nbh image on a different sd card and see if it gives you the same prompt.
i just dl'ed telnet... and it wont connect to host or something? WTeff?!
thanks guys, got it to work =]. I fried two SD cards trying though hahaha. oh well. lucky i use my spare 1gb SD cards for modding my phone.

I need the original zip

Does anyone here have the original 1.5 Android update zip? I need it. I need to restore back to default factory setting. I am currently on console recovery, and I have a SD card reader as well.
Does my SD card needs to be fat, fat32, or exfat? Thanks.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but....
I think you need the DREAIMG.nbh file if you want to restore back to factory defaults.
Once you get that (just google the file name)
Boot into the bootloader (camera+power) and allow it to do it's thing
I really don't think you can use the update.zip from a replacement recovery screen
huh?
I am on Android System Recovery Utility. I erased the system settings/factory reset.
I was trying to install eclair 2.0-1.2 but I don't know HOW I can format my SDcard to eta3, google doesn't answer the question effectively (SORRY!!!!!!!!).
I need this answers:
1) Where do I download rc29 update? Where and how? The developers website won't let me download 1.5 image because the link is grey out. Pisses me off.
2) How do I format my SDcard to linux eta3 in Windows 7? Please tell me!
#1. thats the ADP image and not what you want.
#2. You cant format to ext3 in windows 7 with default programs.
Guys please..
All I am asking is:
1) I need 1.5 update... please.. I am begging you guys. I am very frustrated with my G1. Again, I am on my Android System Recovery Utility. I want to be able to put my 1.5 on my SDcard reader, put it in my G1, and update it from there. SIMPLE. That's it, I made a big mistake of formatting my G1 in the first place.
Please, I am begging you guys, please HELP ME OUT! Thank you!

If you have "rooted" your phone and you want to get everything back to it's default state, then you would want to download DREAIMG.nbh format your sdcard to fat32 and boot into the bootloader as explained above
You can find the RC29 DREAIMG.nbh file
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EMY1HIVU
You only need to have an ext3 partition if you're rooting your phone and using a rom that has apps2sd, if that's the case you can read how to create the partitions by following this link
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/

The bootloader should recognize the file
A Couple things to keep in mind
Are you in the US on T-Mobile, RC29 is for the US version of Dream
Did you extract the zip and make sure it is named DREAIMG.nbh just like so
Try formatting the card again as fat32, maybe try a full format as opposed to a quick format
Guys, I am stuck on red, green, blue, and white screen. Nothing is happening, how do I turn if off?
I downloaded the file form the link you provided. I didn't change the filename, just drag and drop to my sdcard. My tombile is from US. Yes.
I forgot to extract it, I thought I had to put the zip file in first. Sorry.

Either take the batter out or Call + Menu + End key should reboot the phone.
Make sure you rename the file appropriately, and then reflash the DREAM image.

The link I provided you pointed to a .zip file
Extract the file and make sure you place DREAIMG.nbh onto the sdcard
To reboot the phone from the colored screen you can press call+menu+power or pull the battery
When the file is on a properly formatted card, and readable as DREAIMG.nbh you will prompted by another screen that will allow you to restore your phone
I got it, thanks!
Now.. I would LOVE to install eclair 2.0-1.2 but alias I need to have eta3 table installed on my SDcard.
Any ideas how to accomplish that?
To install manups eclair rom (I believe that's the one you're referring to)
You need to root your phone
You can follow this guide
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/
Since you've already applied the downgrade skip down to the section titled
B2. Replace the recovery image
If you follow the guide exactly you'll have Cyanogen's Recovery image, if you use that recovery you can follow the guide below to create an ext partition on your sdcard
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/
If you deviate slightly from the guide you use Amon_RA's recovey image (just look for it under the development section for Dream's here on XDA), you can use Amon_RA's recovery to create the ext partition for you automatically
Once you have your recovery image installed and your ext partition setup then you can apply the rom you downloaded for manups eclair
Edit: I just looked at the thread for that ROM, it states you need to have Haykuro's SPL AKA The Danger SPL installed, this SPL has is known to brick phones if not installed properly
Having that information if you still feel you want to proceed, after installing your custom recovery you can follow the links in my signature for radio/spl to get the files
1) install radio first allow phone to reboot it will take a minute or three, be patient don't pull battery
2) Install SPL allow phone to reboot, once again it will take a minute while it writes the files
then you can apply your rom
*Once again many people have bricked their phones installing this file, make sure you are comfortable installing it before trying and aware of the risks, if you're phone bricks, it's not mine or anyone elses fault that you attempted this mod, you assume all responsibilty (just wanted to throw that in there, because there are literally hundred's of bricked phones from failed spl updates)

[Q] My NC lasted all of one day.

Well day one is over and I think I might have the first bricked NC. I used CWR to flash this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932211
I kept getting a keyboard input error and it never worked correctly. I've been reading nonstop through the forum and now my NC won't turn on.
I look through the thread again, only to find out that it is locked and in red letters it now says "just keep away from the SDcard formatting option in settings." Anyone want to guess what I did before I read that? Yup, I formatted the SD card through settings.
It says to use a certain file to flash boot again but I have no idea how to do that if the thing won't even turn on. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't post in the thread because it is locked.
MY NOOK IS ALIVE AGAIN!!!!!!!!
Not sure what all I did but it's up and running again. I started with the partition file mentioned in the closed thread. I then did a full restore to 1.0. This then lead me to a boot loop with the grey N screen. From there I re-rooted and it almost loaded. After that I did the power +N button and it reinstalled 1.0 for me. I have since rooted the NC and am leaving it as is until Cyanogen comes out with their ROM.
you made a big mistake by starting off with that flash to emmc rom. You should have started with rooting the original firmware.
Try this to get back to stock.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720
If this doesnt work use my fool proof guide here:
Code:
http://mrm3.net/2011/01/24/113/
I rooted the NC using Huskermania's video on YouTube. I should have left well enough alone but seeing all the videos of 2.2, I wanted it as well.
Thanks you for the link. I plan to follow every step later in the day, after get some rest and relieve some stress. My only worry is, will the Nook turn on after I pop in the SD card and how long do I hold the power button before I give up?
I'm familiar with rooting and flashing phones, I am currently running CM-6.1 on an Evo and a Hero without any problems. Before that I messed with everything from the PPC-6601 to the TREO 800W.
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10965703&postcount=31
maybe it's like the root sd and you just need to let it run without any on screen indicators. you could pm him and see if he can offer any help.
good luck.
So I've read through everything and when I installed the SDK I had issues with my PC and getting the drivers to load. I didn't install them and went straight to flashing it, so no matter which guide I followed the driver install failed.
I'm now on a Mac and I'm installing the SDK. Any advice on how to take me from step #11 and on.? I can't seem to be able to find the Windows button fo some reason.
hi -- assuming you still need help, this CWR bootable SD saved me many times.
download this file (I think you may already have it)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2248236/froyo-eMMC-0.2.img
so open terminal in your mac and insert the microSD card into an sdcardreader or adapter. If you want to be extra safe open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder in Applications and erase the SD card.
then in terminal:
$ diskutil list
(figure out which /dev/disk# is the sd card)
$ diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk#
$ dd if=/path/to/that/img/file/froyo-eMMC-0.2.img of=/dev/disk# bs=1m
(then wait an inordinate amount of time when terminal won't tell you anything and you think it is not doing anything... for it to image the sd card)
when it is done, it will tell you XXXXXX files in 0 files out
remove that SD from your computer and put it back in -- it should show up in finder as "Boot" and check to make sure a "restore to 1.0.1 zip" is on it -- if not, let me know, and I'll link you that file as well. You can just copy over that zip to the newly imaged SD card if it isn't there.
once you've got that SD card imaged with the complete-restore-1.0.1.zip on it as well, make sure your nook is unplugged and powered off -- I assume, just hold down the power button for like 10 seconds just to be safe. Put the microSD into the microSD slot and plug the nook into the computer -- that tells it to boot from SD.
you should enter Clockworkrecovery at which point you need to navigate the program with the vol up vol down power and home buttons (power is back, home is select) and go to the mount option and reformat system, then data, then boot. It always freezes on me after reformatting boot, so just power off and back on and it should return to CWM. Then go through the steps to flash that recovery zip that is on the sd card! Make sure you select "select zip from SD card" and you should be good to go.
good luck.

Milestone reboots on attempt to boot to Recovery

So yesterday I grabbed a copy of OpenRecovery from the cyanogenmod4android Google Code page and unzipped it, threw it onto my Milestone's SD card, rebooted into recovery.
It restarted when the bootloader (or whatever) finished loading the update.zip. I thought it was a bad .zip, and so I re-downloaded, and unzipped it to the SD card. Nothing changed.
I decided "Meh, use now, fiddle later." and let it reboot, sat it down and went back to looking up things to do with my HTC G2.
A minute or so goes by and I notice it hasn't done its normal boot-up vibration. (It's always done that. Pretty sure it's the "Checking SD card for errors" notification.) I pick it up and see that it's rebooting after about 3 seconds at the Motorola logo. What happened? D:
Use this recovery, it's the most advanced one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091787
Download the "Minimod V0.23.zip" and extract it to your SD card.
You should then have a folder called "OpenRecovery" and the "update.zip" file in the root directory of your SD card.
Do not unzip the "update.zip"
Furthermore you need to flash a vulnerable recovery first.
It's all in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698059
If your phone is stuck in a bootloop then I honestly don't know how that could have happened.
If there's no important data on the phone you could try factory resetting it.
If this doesn't help you'll have to reflash the ROM.
Guess I should've come back sooner...

Well, I powered it on a few more times, and it booted. Works normally apart from the OR issue. I already flashed the vulnerability from the guy who maintains(ed?) the Google Code page, and I've used the same OpenRecovery before, only that was with a different SD card. (Which I formatted and stuck in my HTC Vision without backing up, being an idiot)
I'll try out this one you linked me, and see what happens.
You can also try formatting that new SD card with the SD Formatter tool (link's in my signature)
