the card def has to be FAT32. be sure you have it named properly. DIAMIMG.nbh & that its in the root of the sd card. also you may want to try a 2gb or smaller card if perhaps you are trying this on a 8gb or 16gb card. GL

make sure to unlock the phones security and that the file is put in the root of the card and name correctly.

You may be confusing the OP, as the Diamond does not have an external card slot. 4 gb internal only. Is the phone Unlocked, as it sounds like it may not be??

Phone must be unlocked... ROM file must be placed on the ROOT of the internal storage... ROM image MUST be named "DIAMIMG", do not bother adding ".nbh" to the file name, or it will mess up the file.... the file extension is already an nbh and may not show that in the phone's file explorer.
If you're doing all of that, and the ROM is a Diamond specific ROM and not a Touch Pro ROM, it should be fine.

Flashing ROM via SD Card

Hi. My Windows computer is on it's last leg; I'm not sure if it will be able to run long enough for me to flash a ROM and I don't want my phone to break. Which brings me to my question:
Can you install ROMs from the Storage Card?
Thanks.
your device must be HardSPL'd.
for the Herald, drag the .nbh file to the root of the card after renaming it HERAIMG.nbh.
SDHC cards are not compatible, and the larger the partition that the .nbh is on (usually the main one), the longer it will take to flash.
Be patient. You will think that something has gone wrong, but nothing has. It takes a really really really long time (like 10-15 mins)(for real, not like the RUU)
is it better?
is it better to flash it to the sd carD?

Your not quite flashing it to the sd card, the sd card acts as the img file needed for the phone to accept the flash. Another thing is to make sure the sd card is formatted fat32. Personally I have a 1gb card that I partitioned down to 100mb formatted fat32 for my flashing needs
its not necessarily better or worse to flash it from the sd, its just useful if your device doesnt feel like connecting for some reason.
thanks! i appreciate the quick response.

Thanks.

will it work if it's formatted fat16? how long do you think it would take for a 2gb card (1 partition) to flash a rom?

Can't flash with 8gb card

Hey guys, i've got a 8gb Apacer card. I've installed successfully the HardSPL (it shows Olinex's name), i've downloaded Smaberg's latest rom, which is already renamed. I'm taking off the battery and then putting it back, i'm pressing the volume down key and at the same time the power button. It takes me to the 3 color screen but it stays stuck to "Serial" which is written down on the 3 color screen.
Am i doing something wrong?
Bill
Which is the filesystem of your SD Card?
Have you renamed the ROM with this name: kovsimg.nbh?

I formatted it with FAT32,
Yup ROM is already renamed to kovsimg.nbh
Can't understand why it stucks to 3 color screen when it says down to the screen "Serial".
U not press volume down long enough
start again
I pressed it for 3 minutes and still stucks to serial screen.
Is the nbh file at the SDcard root?
Yeah it is. I have some other files too at sd root, does it messing up the things?

Just did it but no luck, still the same issue!
I've had the same problem. Formatted my 2Gb a dozen of timeswith my laptop and it didn't function. Finally I formatted the card with another PC at the office and now everything works as planned.
So, not every format is the same??
Just tried to flash a rom with another SD 2gb and worked fine!
What the heck is going on with my devilish 8gb card...the card is working great but no flashing...maybe i'll have to find another computer too to format it.

Are you sure of you???
Because I have a Kingston 8Gb SDHC card and I use it for flashing my phone with SDcard method when I can't flash it with my PC...
Where is your original 8gb card guys? Did you change it for a reason?
Sorry but the 8GB is not included with every Xperia, at least not in every country.
My german operator send it without sd card, I had to buy my own one.
So I think this may differ from country to country or provider.
I had the same problem, could not flash it with SD card method, tried it via PC (USB), also no success and tried it again with SD method and tried it for like 10-15 times and then all of a sudden it worked.
I tried putting hard-spl on there again, while I knew it was on there already, even this did not work and started working after some tries and then I was able to do the SD method.
I have a sandisk 8GB mem card, so it's probably not brand related..
We have the Kovsimg.nbh, how do we create the ROMUpdateUtility.exe?

Just put the ROMUpdateUtility and the NBH file in the same folder and run it, it will flash whatever NBH file is in the same folder as it. If you need the RUU exe, just extract it from a shipped ROM using WinRar. Or use this Custom RUU : http://rapidshare.com/files/164933503/X1_CustomRUU.zip
Please don't create new threads for existing issues.

Which file did you rename to blacimg.nbh (that's correct and not blackimg.nbh)? Did you save it to the root of the sd card as suggested (although mine is in a folder and this also works)? Because the steps you are describing are correct and should work (work like that for me). The only thing I can think is that there is possibly something wrong with the file you are using. Is it one of your own cooked roms?

faced the same prob long time ago with a old 4 Gb card...no matter what i've did was not able to flash. However I sugest to reformat your sd card (FAT 32 and not on your pc/laptop, do it with your phone) and then try again after formating, altough it may not help. to be sure that you are not doing wrong try another SD card if possible.
Another option to check your self is flashing with ActiveSync after formating.
Good Luck
p.s. It seems this is happening often if you used your SD card in another device
I'd a similar problem while flashing on my old P3300
To avoid the problem, I'm using a 1gb micro sd dedicate only to rom flashing but with a single partition of 256MB.
dunno if this could help u
cheers
I was having exactly same problem today when I tried to flash - mine's 8gb mini SD which came as a part of package from Orange, U.K.. I ended up using normal USB cable but I was wondering why it didn't work...

Fashing with some big SD >4gb could generate some issue. Use one small dedicated to that and format it first in Fat32.
Hi Carl, thanks for your advice - it actually worked like a charm. I didn't really thing 8gb would cause this problem. I used just a plain 2gb ScanDisk card, formatted in Fat 32 and put only blacimg.nbh following normal procedures - thank you very much again!
My 2 cents
I had a similar problem not long ago with my 8Gb Micro SD that came with the card. I'd re-formatted it via the PC and altered the default settings based on a thread I read on here which was supposed to speed up access to the card. If I remember correctly it was changing the default allocation size.
Long story short, reformatted back to default settings and I was able to flash again from SD. IMO it's moreso the format of the card, not so much it's size as I never had a problem with flashing from card before tweaking it's format settings.
SD Card
I always flash from my SD card.
My latest card is a 16Gb class4 SanDisk, and I must have flashed more than 50 times from this. I always put my blacimg.nbh file in the root of the card.
Size of the card is not important, it just have to be formated in FAT32.
There are several reports that some brands of card do not work very well with Windows Mobile.
One time I purchased a Kingston card that simply would not work.

GenYBoot Android SD card problem

Hi,
Had been running throught the internet but can't find an answer. I have GenYBoot installed and Android 2.2.1 running from Internal storage of my HTC Touch Diamond. I have a problem with SD-card in Android which ... does not exist. If I want to save something it says that there is no SD-card - please insert the card. Device desen't see any additional storage than own memory (<200MB). There is no need to say it's anoying as it doesn't allow me even to download ringtones....
Could you advise please?
Thanks,
Andrew.
Solution
Just a simple trick
I don know what rom ur using, but i had da same prob
Jus delete every single file in the 4gb storage first, then put ur android files fresh ther and start the haret file from file explorer. This should do da trick, it did it for me.

Alright first download this HP FORMAT TOOL
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,64963-order,4/description.html
second, copy all the contents from your INTERNAL SD only card onto your desktop
third, run the tool and choose between quick format [works for me all the time] or full format. Once done re-copy all your files back on the INTERNAL

[Q] I have Rooted the Nook (SDCARD) but I cant get Clockworkmod to work

So I have installed the Rom on the SDCard and I can see the Rom Manager but I took the SD Card out and put the Google App zip from here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version on the SD Card booted the nook back and then went into Rom Manager to "Boot Into Recovery" but nothing happens the system just reboots and I don't get that screen with the orange text to let me install the apps from the SD card.
Keep in mind that I rooted the nook the soft way buy making a bootable SD card.

It doesn't sound like you've actually rooted the nook - you've just booted into an alternate ROM on the SD card. If you want to get into CWM, you can either create an SD card which has CWM and will launch it when you boot with the SD card in, or you can install it to internal memory so the SD card isn't necessary.
Thanks for the notes. I basically figured out I didn't really need it if I used the trick of turning the unit on while holding the N button. As a follow up question. Now that I have everything setup can I make an image of this SD Card and put that image on a bigger faster card? Or will I need to start over?

If you use dd just to copy the raw data on the SD card, you'll get the advantages of faster speed, but the partition will be the exact same size. If you want to take advantage of the bigger space, you'll need to partition the SD card and copy the files manually.

So I don't know much about dd although I have seen it on the site before so I can look that up. As for the partitioning tool I know the first partition has to be 'boot' not sure on what size it has to be or any other specifics do you know any of that data? Also thanks for taking the time to answer all of this. I am hoping that this will stop some of the Force Close issues I am seeing.
The easiest way is to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957 to install CM7 to your SD card. The image takes care of creating the partitions of the appropriate size. As for writing the image itself, you can follow any guide for dd, or use WinImage on Windows which is probably a bit easier to follow.
Yeah but I wanted to know if I could copy all my date over. Just by like copy and paste sort of thing. In other words I dont want to get to carried away on installing all this stuff then have to redo everything once I get a better card.
